Hydrodynamic ;). I love that you tell us what cool art supplies it is you're using, yet tell us we can just use a pen, I like options and you always give that to your audience and I just love that about you.
Perfect timing I am in the process of introducing a ship for my players.
No cannons?! Argh ye ship be named the "Sitting Duck" matey, no wonder she sank! Some callouts off to the side would be cool: like the figurehead, cannon, anchor, flag, and sail designs... maybe some classic or unique pirate items.
Cool ship, this reminds me of one of the scenarios of a DnD book... with a "ghost ship" full of monsters
ship adventures are awesome! Everyone should try.
Crazy good maps weekly. you are my go to DnD artist and your ideas inspire me to create my own battle mats and world maps. The ship looks awesome, hoping to get Secrets of Saltmarsh campaign for my DND group and this will definitely be helpful, great work.
SO GOOD! Reminds me of the ship you explore in Dragons of Stormwreck Isle!
Say, for your next map, would you mind doing a tropical island theme? I’ve been struggling with creating icons for things like tropical forests. Love your stuff!
Great ship, thank you for sharing this. Not my idea, but I think it is a great solution. Inking parts that are under water in gray instead of black is a great way to get the ilusion of the parts beeing under water. Combined with your line tchnique it should work out great I think.
Looking forward to seeing more of Vagabond! Cool to see your work is involved in this adventure too!
Awesome
Much love JP!!! This thing looks incredible!!!
coolio bruddah love it
Awesome job!👌
Great video!
Wow, you make it look so easy! And I love the details here.....so many great ideas!
Really good looking wreck ship. am about to run an "escape the island" campaign and this map gave me some cool ideas for side quests
Tell me you wish SpellJammer was better without telling me you wish Spelljammer was better :D
I make my own spelljammers!
For map ideas, most are under the assumption of summer for how the elements are presented. How would you approach the different types of terrain in other seasons but still be able to tell what it is supposed to be? I had the thought while passing past a park that I had mapped based off of a walk I did and how how much different it would look if I had walked it now and used those notes instead. Fall colors would be easy enough on a forest, but the color to use on grass lands but still have it read as grass isn;t as clear. Or decidous forest in winter. For pines white and green would work but not sure how you could present other trees in winter but not have it read as dead. Maybe a few random spots of color? No idea if you were just working with ink though.
Haven't thought about this too much. I think you keyed in to the easiest way and that's changing color. If you want to keep things black and white then it's changing the individual icons. Drawing trees without leaves, mountains with snow caps, etc. For grass, if there is still grass in the winter, it doesn't really look different other than the color, so no need to change the icon. Right?
Good stuff!
a ship's plan you meant ;)
I always wondered what the actual proper nautical term was... dang mariners and their jargon lol
Thank you. It's awesome. Btw can you guide drawing top down character ??
Oh good idea! Will add to my list of videos ideas!
it would be nice if you could tell how big of a grid is needed
I really like your drawing style. Everything you draw seems so easy to do, but when i try it myself, boy my hands just dont listen to me or what. :D
Thank you! It might help to spend more time at the pencil stage. Don’t be afraid to erase and redraw. Once you have the drawing looking right then jump into inking. Take it slowly. It might take a few maps to get comfortable with new tools, but if you stick with it you’ll be surprised at how quickly your hands start listening!
