i’m also so happy sanrio is making a comeback here in the western world! i’ve been a hello kitty and just sanrio in general fan my whole life thanks to my momma. as i got a little older other kids would tell me i was too old to like hello kitty but that never stopped me. when i entered 6th my teacher was obsessed with hello kitty and sanrio too and it reminded me hello kitty is for everyone of all ages. i’m glad everyone is remembering that now and allowing themselves to indulge their interests especially in sanrio!
My family was stationed in Japan for 3 years starting when I was in kindergarten and the mall on the island had an entire Hello Kitty store. Western media has been a little inconsistent as well over the years, some of the cartoon dubs describe her and her family as cats, either because the company doing the dubbing didn't care, or because they thought american kids wouldn't get it. They might have been right, I don't know. Still, the Hello Kitty Paradise theme is a bit of a jam! The coolest Sanrio toy I have is a mini-plush box set of Hello Kitty as Alice In Wonderland (with Dear Daniel as the Mad Hatter, and a tiny White Rabbit My Melody). Got it at a gift shop specializing in Japanese imports in maybe 2003, where I also discovered San-X and Gloomy Bear. I love weird cute culture things!

I later found out that there was another children' s book writer/drawer: Ray Goossens a Belgian author who made stories about Musti a cat who looks suspisciously like Miffy since 1969.
