This 70 year old Texan lady has been watching your shows all day today and I have enjoyed watching. And will continue to watch. I am also a fan of the Texas Bucket List.
Texas gets a lot of attention because of the abundance of great BBQ, but the sheer number of FANTASTIC burger joints in this state is truly overwhelming!
Loved this episode The Daytripper!!! One of my favorites for sure. I have lots of exploring to do around Texas.I'd like to wish a very happy 100th birthday to Rutledge Hamburger Stand in Brownsville, Texas. They have used the same grill since they opened in 1922. Very historic and unique.
You could do a full episode in Fort Worth on burgers alone. Places like Kincads, Tommy's, Hookers, Charley's, M&O station grill, Rodio Gost, Hiems (technically it's a BBQ restaurant but they have a hiem burger that is a secret item). Fort Worth is a foodie town like Austin.
First time I went to Texas in the 70’s We stopped at a place that sold Texas Burgers which were the biggest burgers I’d ever seen or eaten. They were delicious.
A patty melt is burger with Texas toast…..I can tell you’re a true Texan when you included whataburger some honorable mentions would be dans burgers or Sandy’s in Austin texas
as a midwest born and raised, burgers are part of my genes! good to see one covering the Texas burger scene! no shortage of those around my area either! good episode!
Awesome video as always. I've only been to four of those joints (health camp, the yard, boots, and bracken store)...ALL DELICIOUS!!! It seems I have a ways to go 😄
Morales TX just north of Edna TX there is a store similar to the Andice General Store. Right off the highway. Phoneomenal burgers, super nice people. That's gotta be my best burger experience I've had recently
The chili burger at the phoenix saloon is awesome, and I may catch some flak for this one but my favorite burger is the chili burger from Tolbert's in Grapevine. Had it for the first time 2 years ago and I go back as often as I can.
The new episodes air on PBS as they are released. Chet is a resident of Georgetown, Williamson County and is notorious throughout the region and the State. He's become a Texas institution. I love him!
I used to work at the hill 💀 Speaking of that, I definitely recommend the Ranch (1/3 lb homestyle patty with pepper Jack cheese, onion, tomato, lettuce, avocado, and the jalapeño ranch) and the Queso (1/3 lb homestyle patty with pico de gallo, lettuce, and white queso) and if you get the queso, get avocado added onto it cause it makes it way better
Oooooo, and by the way "I AM THE INVENTOR OF THE "HAM"BURGER!" - Terry W. Wheelock PdD. 😁👍✌ AND, .... you guessed it I invented the actual "CHEESE"BURGER too! 😁👍✌
Went to that Andice burger place with my dad when I was young on the way to his jobsite from Austin, was great and great memories! Diffidently has gotten alot more popular since I went!
If you want to bite into the best burgers in the state of Texas or the US, you have to go to Tastee Burger in Lockney, TX. Oh and the chili cheese burger is amazing!!!!
Hey! Love your videos! Next week I will be driving from New Orleans to Arizona on I10.what burger joint do you suggest I stop by for lunch/dinner should I stop at?
When I was a kid, we would go to Keller's Drive-in in Dallas (the one on Samuell Blvd. by White Rock creek, which is no longer there). I remember the car hops with the coin changer belt and carrying dollar bills between her fingers and balancing the food tray (the kind that you roll down the car window about 3 quarter way and they balance it on the window) in the same hand. For some reason that was fascinating to me. lol. Also, if you lived in the dry suburbs, it was the first stop west of town that you could get a beer. In my teens it was Bell's Better Burger on Lake June in the Balch Springs/Mesquite/Pleasant Grove area. I haven't been there in 20 years or more, and I haven't eaten a better one yet! I'm sure they are still delicious! Next time I'm in the Dallas area I may get me a BBB.
You need to go to The Pecan Grove located between Fredericksburg and Llano. It is home to the "Dino" Burger which is literally the size of a dinner plate. 20:27
My favorite, Chili, cheese, jalapeno, bacon burger! Veggies, mustard and pickles only, extra on both. If you don't feel your arteries harden, it ain't right. (Dairy Bar in Lake Jackson used to be the best, haven't been in a few years, sure it still is magnificent!)
Best burger? Hands down Dirty Martin's in Austin, Texas by UT. IMO. OR, Top Notch in Austin where the film Dazed and Confuzed was filmed. For fast food burger, it's P. Terry's, esp. their fries.
Mata's buger in Balmorhea ,TX is a place next to the town creek, burgers, fries , wings, well better said there menu is just DELICIOUS!!!!!!! The vibe is perfect sit in the creek ice cold drink and a delicious burger
Hruska's (we've always pronounced it Rusk-us) is sub-par. Driving between Austin and Houston, I'd rather go to Whataburger (Bastrop or Columbus) and not Hruska's. I've stopped at Hruska's for over 20 years for kolaches, though. In La Grange, you can get Czeck kolaches from Weikel's bakery, which are almost as good as the ones I used to get in Taylor, Tx.
Oh and the cast iron grill is better! You don't use soap and water on cast iron. A squeaky clean stainless griddle can only take you so far. The years of seasoning on a cast iron makes it great. I love a dirty burger.
Love your show you've got to try Keller's here in Dallas best chicken fried steak in Texas, is located on Northwest Highway and Abrams in Dallas it's a old Drive-In Style best time to come is on the weekend in summer in the evening you get a chance to see custom cars and Custom Motorcycles and has the best chili cheeseburger I've ever tasted .Peace and Love
Andice got its name via a typo. The first store owner was applying for a US Post Office location. His son Audice was killed in WWI, and it was intended as a tribute. Some bureaucrat in DC misread the "u" for an "n" and the rest is unfortunate history. And yes, they have the best Hamburger in the world and an order of Fries is enough for 3; unless you are my brother-in-law Fernando. He wants one all to himself. lol
I like how duder in the front seat got philosophical about the perfect burger. As far as cheese or no cheese. People who consistently, purposely eat burgers with no cheese...well they're just weird. Now I've seen a commercial for a dating site that boasted a survey with hundreds of questions to determine compatibility. I have my own . Just two questions. Do you eat hamburgers or cheese burgers? Do you like Seinfeld? This is not just for potential mates. This can be used to judge any kind of relationship from buddy to business partner and beyond. Now you can get by with a miss match as long as you have one in common. You will find at least a little friction however. But for me a cheese/pro Seinfeld answer is a slam dunk. This method will become accepted by the psychological and anthropological sciences. Mark my words it is flawless. Great viddy Chet loving that you're ''serving up'' whole episodes more!!!!!!!!!!!
The hamburger was invented about 20 years before the first hamburger bun. So a burger with slices of sandwich bread is still a hamburger. George Motz, the burger scholar would 100% agree with me.
Well I thought I dropped a quick note love the burgers but the best Burger I've ever had was on waggu beef with a slice thick slice of Fogra That's a nice thick piece of duck libber I'm sure you've heard of it now that is the best
I LIVED IN AUSTIN FOR 15YRS FROM BEGINNING TO END I LIVE FOR WHAT-A-BURGER 😁 ESPECIALLY A TRIPLE MEAT TRIPLE CHEESE WHAT-A-BURGER WITH BACON ON GOOD DAY I PUT 4 AWAY IN ONE SITTING ON A GREAT DAY 5-6😜😊😁TRIPLE MEAT TRIPLE CHEESE WHAT-A-BURGER ON TEXAS TOAST WITH BACON, MAYONNAISE AND MUSTARD(NO KETCHUP) 😜😁
Man, it's too bad that Richey is no longer with the show, you and he had great chemistry, resulting in many 🤣🤣😂. Sadly, the Southern Flyer Diner is no more, reportedly due to Covid. There is a new tenant called Dreamliner Diner, I haven't tried them yet, but the ‘50s’ theme is gone.
We love Richie too. Still friends but he moved on from the show. Got other stuff in the works. And bummer to hear about the Southern Flyer. Is the new place good?
This 70 year old Texan lady has been watching your shows all day today and I have enjoyed watching. And will continue to watch. I am also a fan of the Texas Bucket List.

Truth bombs here. 💣
Everyone is happy about it except for the cows
@ramencurry6672 no they are happy to serve their purpose, go hug a tree

a lot of burgers on this program resemble that Whataburger wide burger style. Not a bad thing I absolutely love it!
Everything is better in Texas. Go big or go home. 😂👍Love the videos!
You got that right!
Truth. Texas has the best food in the country!
Whataburger 🍔🍟❤enjoyed the show too yummy.❤😂❤🍔🍟
You could do a full episode in Fort Worth on burgers alone. Places like Kincads, Tommy's, Hookers, Charley's, M&O station grill, Rodio Gost, Hiems (technically it's a BBQ restaurant but they have a hiem burger that is a secret item). Fort Worth is a foodie town like Austin.
Agree that it's a foodie town. Love everything I've eaten in Fort Worth.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn into Austin
Don’t forget Fred’s!
Best show on PBS!
Thanks!
First time I went to Texas in the 70’s We stopped at a place that sold Texas Burgers which were the biggest burgers I’d ever seen or eaten. They were delicious.
As they say... everything is bigger in TX
Patty melt is absolutely a burger!
Whataburger! Hello!
A patty melt is burger with Texas toast…..I can tell you’re a true Texan when you included whataburger some honorable mentions would be dans burgers or Sandy’s in Austin texas
Old Dave would agree! It’s a BURGER.
@walterfelts4043 agreed whataburger has lost its touch
Woodys in Mineral Wells = #1!!!!
As I watch this video , I must say I love the conversation on this road trip
Thanks. Just letting the cameras roll. 🤠
I agree. All legit questions. Burgers are a serious subject for sure
as a midwest born and raised, burgers are part of my genes! good to see one covering the Texas burger scene! no shortage of those around my area either! good episode!
Awesome video as always. I've only been to four of those joints (health camp, the yard, boots, and bracken store)...ALL DELICIOUS!!! It seems I have a ways to go 😄
There are a TON.
East Texas is the home of the original and best hamburger
Old Dave. AKA Uncle Fletcher should be on Mt. Rushmore.
Morales TX just north of Edna TX there is a store similar to the Andice General Store. Right off the highway. Phoneomenal burgers, super nice people. That's gotta be my best burger experience I've had recently
Yes. Went there recently. So good.
We lived in Lufkin Tx and use to eat at Rays in the 70’s and 80’s the Burgers were great.
If youre ever in Mt. Pleasant a stop at Randy's is a must. hands down the best in the country
RJ’S in Kenedy, Tx. One of the best in Texas! Mom and Pop burger joint. Great fries and great onion rings.
WhaterBurger is not a Texas staple anymore since they sold to a Chicago Company now the staple went back to DairyQueen !
The chili burger at the phoenix saloon is awesome, and I may catch some flak for this one but my favorite burger is the chili burger from Tolbert's in Grapevine. Had it for the first time 2 years ago and I go back as often as I can.
I love my burgers greasy, cheesy, and fully loaded.
First time watching this guy, I love him and his enthusiasm. I think I’m gonna subscribe!❤
The new episodes air on PBS as they are released. Chet is a resident of Georgetown, Williamson County and is notorious throughout the region and the State. He's become a Texas institution. I love him!

Oh baby. Sounds so good.
So many awesome burger joints in this video. My favorite is the one in Waco the Dubl-r 😋
Such a great one.
Oooooo, and by the way "I AM THE INVENTOR OF THE "HAM"BURGER!" - Terry W. Wheelock PdD. 😁👍✌
AND, .... you guessed it I invented the actual "CHEESE"BURGER too! 😁👍✌
Get this name a Nobel Prize.
@@TheDaytripper I would rather have noble prize, .... a PIZZA Burger! 😱😁🤪🤣👍✌

Thank goodness you went to the best fast food restaurant there is.
Roscoe's Burger in El Paso. My favorite burger anywhere. 😍 I've been all over the US. Cheeseburger basket for me please! 👍
If you ever get through Beaumont, Texas you really should hit Daddio's.
You need to go to The Pecan Grove located between Fredericksburg and Llano. It is home to the "Dino" Burger which is literally the size of a dinner plate. 20:27

Need to try AJ's in Edna or Jax Hamburgers in Liberty
Adding them to the list.
Best burger? Hands down Dirty Martin's in Austin, Texas by UT. IMO. OR, Top Notch in Austin where the film Dazed and Confuzed was filmed. For fast food burger, it's P. Terry's, esp. their fries.
Jalapeño burger and spicy fries!
Love this!! All Texas burgers look so darn good, especially Mega Mels!! Definitely going to try that one.
The road goes on forever......
And the party never ends...
Phoenix is awesome for burgers and chili.
Mata's buger in Balmorhea ,TX is a place next to the town creek, burgers, fries , wings, well better said there menu is just DELICIOUS!!!!!!! The vibe is perfect sit in the creek ice cold drink and a delicious burger
Good one, Chet. Looking like Hugh Hefner😂
You should try LSA Burgers in Denton, TX.
Mt. Pleasant Burgers and Fries truly is a must when in Mt. Pleasant. The son of the Randy’s burger owner runs this 5 Star Eatery.
There's some great burgers in Lake Fork Texas
Nothing fancy but Dan's Hamburgers is my Austin preference. I see a short trip to Andice in my future though.
Gotta get some. And Dan's is 🔥
You need to try ELMOS hamburger's in West Columbia Texas they are the best can't be bet.
You need to try Burgerland in Paris, TX. The fries are wonderful and you can't eat a small frie without help.
He needs his own show. On like discovery or tlc. I would watch it
“Hold in vomit “. Nice, little girl got class!
Rodeo Goat in Dallas is awesome
Someburger in Baytown, TX should be on the list.
You should visit Coyote Bluff in Amarillo Tx! Best burgers in town! ❤
Hruska's (we've always pronounced it Rusk-us) is sub-par. Driving between Austin and Houston, I'd rather go to Whataburger (Bastrop or Columbus) and not Hruska's. My #1 burger place in Texas is Top of The Hill Greasy burger in Benchley’Texas.
Ed’s place in Taylor
The apple store in Medina has a great burger also.
Hey, what’s up with the french fry? Do we have any Texas fries?
The patty melt is closest to an original hamburger in its OG purest form.
Meat in homemade bread
Oh and the cast iron grill is better! You don't use soap and water on cast iron. A squeaky clean stainless griddle can only take you so far. The years of seasoning on a cast iron makes it great. I love a dirty burger.

FYI, the first burger made in the US was served on 2 pieces of white bread so patty melt is a burger!
Check out the navajo burger.
So what’s your favorite burger so far?Mine would be Wulf Burger in Frisco with Jake’s Burgers in Grapevine in a close 2.
Never been to Wulf's but Jake's patties are too thin and overpriced
All I know is I was pretty full after I ate my burger. And 10.00 is the going rate for burgers now.Hell some places are 15.
I don't have a favorite. But Jake's is solid.

The Coppell Deli has pretty good burgers.
Sour cream is the best thing to treat that burn..
should of went to Storm's in Lampasas

Double cheese is what makes a good double cheese burger.
What was for u the best burger around east tx or dallas area?
Kellers in Dallas. East Texas has a lot. I like Dairy Palace in canton or Juicys in Tyler. Also East Texas Hamburger in Mineola.
She’s got to GO!
The Loco coyote Glen Rose
Agreed!!!
Whataburger sells a Patty Melt. 'Nuff said.
Boom. Point proven.
But technically they also sell a chicken sandwich. 😞
And since Yankees bought it out, they dropped the Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit. "Dang!" said the guy from Liberty Hill.

There is some nice burger places here in the valley (mcallen, pharr, mission area), if you want to make a second texas burger road trip I can show you
I agree that mushrooms have no place on a burger. Pizza, maybe. on a burger? NOOOOO.
I only eat Wataburger.

It's not a patty melt unless its on rye bread.
