These guys sounded like the Beatles on their albums, and the Who whenever you caught them live. An unbeatable combination, and a talented bunch of guys.
Videos like this serve as an excellent time capsule of how fun REAL rock bands' shows were in the 80s when you could pay 20 buck for a ticket. Also great seeing the fans in the crowd. Thanks for posting. Hope this stays for ever! "Beauty and Sadness"...what a great kick off song.
I saw the Smithereens in 1986 at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver, CO and my memory says it cost about ten bucks. I can double check my ticket stub, which I still have somewhere. The show was much like this one; all of "Especially For You" and several more songs from their EP plus some covers. It rocked!

Kind of reminds me of the first time I saw them live (Dallas, 1988). Stage was dark - light comes on - Pat says "Hello Dallas, we're The Smithereens"
Aaaahhh, when MTV played real music. Real live rock and roll.
Did it really even happen?
