Whales chasing pixels for large sums of money is a major thing in most mobile phone mult-player games. The key thing is that such players fund much of the game, the rest of us are here to make the game multi-player.
I mean FOMO is a terrible tactic, but if people want to spend money, let them, it’s helping fund the game we all “enjoy” playing. That’s just how I see it. Hate FOMO or not.. if it’s funding the game, I don’t see a point in complaining
Wargaming isnt exactly an indie dev company, if they were I wouldn’t mind spending, but this level of greedy shit is pathetic. Its not like they’re poor and need to force players to spend every opportunity they get
That's because your not looking at the long term effects. You say their funding the game yet the amount of effort put into improvements does not come even close to the amount of money they've made. In fact it's mostly been downgrades. Perfect example there are litteral dozens of glitches in the aiming and artillery parts of the game and they refuse to even acknowledge its a problem.
Reminds me of the Golden Type 59 in Tanks. But then, the Type 59 was a proven OP tank (the OP tier 9 USSR T-54, moved to tier 8 with an unnoticeable nerf for the Chinese tech tree) that had been removed from sale because it was too popular. THen after a few years, it was brought back with the gold camo job with a hefty price increase. And it sold.
There is actually a pretty good way around WG:s fomo-bullshit. Done in a simple few steps- 1: Install Helldivers 2. 2: Play Helldivers 2 (which btw are developed by human beings and not vultures) 3: Have fun. 4: Forget WoWs
a lot of guys in my clan are talking positively about this game. I'm not really into twitchy type shooters, but it seems to be one of the reasons we're having a hard time getting people in clan wars lately. hopefully competition causes WG to rise up rather than fade away.
My warships FOMO got cured by the ridiculous over monetization and game mechanics going down the shitter. The only reason I still log in at all is to play with friends, occasional CB, maybe waste 20 minutes doing a scenario
I read an interview with a game developer of a mobile game that was shocked how a single guy (a middle east oil billionaire) spent a million dollar in it, just because. Those ships are not for you or me, but for that kind of players. I'm grateful that the last dockyard has good ships and put my money buying a starter package, just in case I don't have time to finish them all. This one is for us.
Wishing Wharf update "Due to technical difficulties, the Wishing Wharf event in the Armory will be postponed to a later date. ". Appears this event starts April 17th.
Doesn't even shock me, years ago Mechwarrior Online (world of mechs) they released mechs that had a golden skin, for 500 bucks a pop... and there are people who purchased all 8 of them. Now go look at the player numbers for world of mechs. (MWO)... World of warships has player numbers that PGI WISHES that MWO ever had.
@ricardoperez2793 no I'm saying they wish they had the player numbers of wows. They prolly have under 1k regular players. Hope those guys enjoyed their golden mechs lol
I just wish WG would have the updates about 3 or 4 hours earlier in the U.S. By the time it goes live I am at work, as I usually get up RIGHT at the time the patch(es) start.
I noticed that Wishing Wharf was missing today when the new update hit. I found out that it's delayed until the 17th. Combined with Modstation not being updated at all last update, thus disabling all authorized mods, and the cancellation of World of Tanks' treasure trove event after one day, I wonder what's going on at WG.
There is a defense against FOMO. It's DINI or DO I NEED IT! Personally I already have a decent fleet (200+) with many rare and decent ships like the Missouri, Belfast, Alaska, Enterprise... The sad fact is that I don't get to play them often. So when crazy things come along like a Golden Chikuma II and I feel FOMO, I remember DINI.
Well, if there is such people with such cash and desire... let them be, it may even keep this game running longer, why not, just the fact of they being such, beg my pardon, but well, I'd say foolish, doesn't matters to the rest of us, yeah? I mean we'd already had the black Friday ships, though a little different, but some would just want it even if they got the same ship without the B. My real concerns are the Wisconsin grind, not some stupid guy not knowing how to save money.( Asian server's 13.3 starts at 2200 GMT, so I've not seen it yet.
The Karl XIV Johan make's me sad cause it looked straight up my weird secondary battleship loving alley and I have Swedish ancestry so naturally im oh I want the crazy weird fake Swede Battleship! but I couldn't throw that kind of money at the game in that limited time so they're FOMO attempt means I just missed out and that's the most frustrating part about this practice. Not to mention World of Warships has probably the most absurdly expensive in-game purchases of any F2P game i'v tried, like nearly 100$ for every High Tier ship is genuinely insane, how in the world are ANY of these ships worth anything past like, $35 at MOST.
The only good deal is the birthday coupon where you basically get dubloons for 50% off and then use a 30% coupon on the armory ships. Unfortunately you can't buy the rare ships there....
For the past few events, the "special" or "rare" ships have turned out to be from a tech line that I'm not fond of playing in the first place. So I've saved a ton on not getting them.
I got Jaeger during its event and WG asked I guess 10 or 20K coal plus 1K steel, (although total sum incl credits and FXP wasnt that much) asking any sum of steel for T9 DD, which comes later for coal.. Hmm. It was similar with Brisbane event too if I remember well. But these bundles with some kind of tokens which usually come in another random crates.. No comment. Rhode Island is another example, while it was directly in doublons random bundles for upto 74K doubs. The evil thing on those bundles was that discount you got only on total number of crates you got, so if you buyed one by one trying your luck then you got no discount. I am pretty sure couple of guys got certain sum of crates with lower discount depending on their wallets and then they gave up if no luck. Others trying even more as they found they didn't get their desired ship in say 10 crates (10x2K doubs minus some discount). Being sorry for the cash they three in vain, trying more. 👉 But some probably got all of them to get max discount to avoid possibility they would need the last crate to get the ship but buying it one by one wo any discount👎. The gambling and different levels of pricing, different ingame currencies, multiple different crates and non linear progress lines (T8 french prem BB for coal?). These are nasty ways to make money. Even if WG would release any ship for direct cost, they would make money on it. Doesn't matter what the starting price would be. But Wargambling Ltd Cyprus makes it hard to understand even for (hopefully) average brains. Marketing practices are dirty job.
WG made multiple currency in the game to just down right drag out the grind and/or force pay to advance and acquire... Make copy cat ships and even, down right, make a 'special edition" ship where its a completely separate copy of the same ship with a special edition, super rare, crazy ship .. But it's basically a skin, just locked away behind a RNG, empty your wallets event...
FOMO...fear of missing out, AKA artificial scarcity. Dangling a cool new ship in front of everyone and then taking it off sale within 2 weeks to generate panic buys. "Get it now or you won't see it for six months to two years."
There was a time I would by the WOWS cards for 20 bucks to get premium time. They stop doing that the cards. After the fall out over the two years ago. I just play to play. The last ship I really spent cash on was the Massachusetts. Now nothing.
My clan is getting bored and we had a really hard time filling clan battles games the past season. truthfully it's the only reason I still play so I don't have any incentive to spend any money or grind even though I'd like Wisconsin since I live here. while I don't have any actual data to back up my feeling, it feels like the game is in decline and they are doing everything they can to milk money right now while they can.
"bunch of pixels that will go away as soon as the game goes down" I tried this on a few people and you would never believe what happened, but it did happen, people just reject that idea, with things like "hey it's a good game that's making money why would it go away!" or "so what I don't do anything because someone fears the game shutting down?" people have become so much delusional and tunnel vision that cannot think of normal possibilities, also one more thing, people don't really understand t he value of their money anymore like you see them struggling and nagging about their financial problems but then they proceed to waste money on pixels. sanity is looong gone now.
Just how is Chikuma II, I guess there was a Chikuma I?, going to be different from the Tone? Being the most used hybrid ship modeled by WG it is not played much because it's features do not work well in the game metrics, IMHO. I do have one and play it often, when I play CAs. (In the game the 2 minute cool down at the start make the planes too slow to use for spotting early and in combat the ship is too vulnerable to leave unattended while flying the planes unless you are too far away to be effective as an IJN CA.) So I guess WG is just going to make a new ship rather than fix the one out? I guess that might work depending on what changed. I do miss the forum.
Chikuma seems to be a lazily buffed Tone brought to tier IX. They copy-pasted so much of the ship they seem to have forgotten to upgrade the hydro, which is still the one ships have at tier VII. There is a "Chikuma I", down at tier II on the tech tree. They should have renamed the tier II "Hirado" and the tier IX "Chikuma", but that would have been too difficult I suppose...
It saddens me to think about Sea Lord immediately buying his way through each and every dockyard that releases now... Then to hear him talk about "whales" and events designed to take advantage of whales like he's not one himself?... I wish he'd just become a CC already and review all these ships for free instead of constantly reinforcing WG's BS price gouging of the playerbase. Nobody should ever be willing to pay anything more than $50-$60 max per pixel ship. Even that amount is high considering a single premium ship in this game costs the same (or more) as a newly released triple A game.. Sad
You can also turn it around: They need money. And instead of introducing stuff that HAS TO BE BOUGHT, like a super strong ship. They introduce unnecessary ships, that basically only have sentimental value. Like this, they get their money, without spoiling the game itself for the non-paying customers. In WOT it was exactly the other way around. They started introducing the most op premiums, which simply spoiled the game for me (and probably a lot of other people).
I never intentionally do dockyard stuff, ive gotten a few mid point rewards just from finishing tasks I wasnt even aware of. However I never set out to do it. In my case I just dont see the ship at the end being worth the grinding. Its happened with other things where finishing a long grind results in me just being entirely sick of the game after finishing it. Course also can happen that i simply have no interest in the reward ship, due to its type, armarments, design.
WG has been using FOMO for as long as I can remember. In early 2012 the Type 59 was on sale for $35. That was a good purchase. So I started buying every new premium due to FOMO. No other premium since then, including the Pz II J, was as satisfying. The only thing that is new is FOMO is the latest buzz word used by TH-cam gaming channels.
they pulled the type 59 from sale 2 months after I started WoT right when I was considering getting it. still hate the bastards for that. didn't make the same mistake here early. got my Belfast. not keeping up lately though as their shenanigans seem to be ramping up. Last ship I got was Karl Johan as it seemed to fit my play style.
So, you're not actually missing out, you just have to delay gratification. For me, personally, I don't spend money on "basically just a camo" but neither do I get upset about people who do.
It's like the piñata section of the armoury. It's all just crappy camos and a waste of space. 99% of the time I run ships without a camo, since most of them look silly and crap. I like most of the historical ones and some special ones, such as Gascognes golden figurehead one.
Yes, FOMO is real, but so are the whales. And there are enough of them to make WG a lot of money. I used to be one of those whales, but the more subs in see in every match nowadays, the less money I spend in this game now.
I used to have fomo in this game but now I don't care anymore but I can't afford to spend money on copy pasta. I used to like tier 9 premiums but now I spend the bare minimum for dock yards
i'm kind of ok with them doing the golden version of the ship in a fomo way. i mean if you're crazy enough to try to get the ship and the special version of the ship that's golden.... well i mean, that's cool that you're supporting the company and keeping the game f2p hahaha.
We actually should thank Wargaming for not being like Activision where you are forced to see every clowny skin other players might buy. Imaging spending a fortune on a golden ship and there are actually people (like me) in the game who disabled the display of camos like those. Lol
@@KB_13247 I think, getting camos for yourself is a valid thing to do. But I noticed that in most games nowadays you can't turn those camos/skins off. Imagine you buy Call of Duty, because you want to play a military style shooter and the first thing you see in the deploying sequence are your team mates "Snoop Dog", "Nicky Minaj", "Superman" , "Groot" and some NBL-Football players (sorry as a European I have no idea about those guys). And Call of Duty is not the only game doing that shit. Most games today are more like Fortnite than Fortnite itself - because they see how much money all those kids spend there. As a player, who likes more "realistic" skins or skins that fit the setting, getting those clowny skins slapped in my face without getting a option to disable them, is annoying as hell.
I think you're overthinking this one a little SLM. You can only "miss out" on something if you actually WANT that thing. Do I want a Hybrid Cruiser especially at T9; no thank you. So for this one I am honestly quite grateful to WG.
For the last cpl months I fight to keep myself stocked in economic bonuses. Always running out. I have to choose between staying stocked in those or trying to get my coal in containers. Can't have both. It's FUBAR. All of it. Unless I break open my hard earned cash. Even then. With the misery of random, this arcade game is barely worth it anymore.
And most containers for real money are stuffed with either green bonuses, credits or captains xp nowadays. Very bad deal... They should give out more of the blue bonuses.... But they won't because they want artificially increase the prices by bundling it with crap.
@Shiny49GER agreed. And I still pay for premium. For now. It has just gotten so lean. The grinding harder and the matches more frustrating. My fave game still but I play until I get so upset, then put it down again for a few days until I'm ready again. Since and repeat. It's sad. I refuse to give them hundreds of dollars a year tho, just to get what we use to see for free or the basic premium cost
Of I can't grind it, don't care. I'd gotten over my 'keeping up with the Joneses' a looong time ago. Also I do enjoy hunting premium ships with tech tree ships.
If a sub bothers you maybe you should play some lepricorn rainbow game 😂 subs are no hassle ...neither are cvs... wg tried to spice up the game and all the soiboi bitches had their tiny little wasd egos brushed on ...lmfao..
Have not gotten Into the game yet today dis WOW with hold 2000 steel like the last dock yard and still shorting us with less steel rewards doing the daily battle pass missions In game. But If they are still doing doing It they are trimming off at least 3000 steel this month or a thousand steel every battle pass.
Surprise suprise WG is pushing to get every dollar they can from all the game fanatics (I'm one of those that if thay had the money I'd spend it to get all the ships)
This is my 2 Cents: -Wargaming is to greedy for example everything is doubloon wanna change captains from ship, retrain, captain, events, ship dockyard. -As gamers we are the one that is constantly paying that much so the culture will stay pay to win. Grinding is hard and not the focus anymore, hard to get silver to buy ship so buy credit in store, want free xp? exchange it for doubloon, should i continue? I dont see this game keeping up with these bussiness models since inflation is crazy people wont that much. either the game dies or they change.
Understand your video. I'm on consoles. The same way. You Get this deal now or goes away. Now I'm gonna not fall for it and put the money towards food and family. They can kiss my butt. I've watched this game go downhill fast on about 4 yrs. Go from really good to really bad, really fast. Ever since the mobile release, it's gone, really c*** Really fast, and in fact, I'm not gonna play for a while because of This bait and switch tactics i'm gonna in log then log out. I'm not paying them to screw us more than they have in the past. It's time to find other ways to get entertainment.
427 ships. ALL the tech tree ships save for the tier 6 and higher carriers (except Yorktown that I do have from early access PLUS a whole lot of permiums and specials. FOMO? Meh whatever. If it is obtainable then it is. I go for dockyards for example. I have Jager. And so on. But if the cost is stupid? My only fear is missing out on my money! 25,000 plus gold for what??? HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! I aint smoking that crack!
Tbh, i dont give a damn about a ship being golden or not. However, i am annoyed when, whaling aside, a great ship others can use isnt available anymore. Started playing WoWs shortly after release together with my brother. But he has long dropped out because of the FOMO tactics used by them. When free XP Alaska got removed he did quit. And i was thinking about quitting it for good aswell after i missed out on original Missouri, Thunderer and Smaland. Its really tiresome that they use such shabby tactics instead of just making the game enjoyable, fun and without ticking clocks on ships. Why not have all dockyard ship available at all time and you can choose on your own which one you grind? Why not keep all the ships for resources instead of removing them? Why go at people with lootboxes? The only answer is greed. And thanks to the people who whale they will keep on doing that stuff. If close to no one would buy that crap, then WG would be forced to change. And if so, the game would ve far more players and would still be profitable. Maybe even more than with targeting their ~500 whales all the time.
Not really a problem to me, in that I am going to ignore it and just play the game. Don't get me wrong, it does annoy me, but I feel like I have more real things to worry about than missing out on some virtual boat.
It's called "artificial scarcity". And, jealousy and envy.
FOMO is the fault of MBAs who are taught to only look at the next quarter earnings and not long term
Whales chasing pixels for large sums of money is a major thing in most mobile phone mult-player games. The key thing is that such players fund much of the game, the rest of us are here to make the game multi-player.
Ngl that chikuma golden skin makes it feel like it belong to a warlord dictator
Brilliant!

Jäger is on the rare ships drop list. She was also available on Santa containers this year.
I got Jaeger in a random daily container

May be worth q shot. I moved to 3rd person shooters after a head injury. May be better than you think. @@mattgearytransplanted
But get annoyed by all the crashes...
It’s 5:01 am in here no better time watch this benger
I will never forget my visit to the uss Wisconsin. I still wear the hoodie i bought there to this day. That ship is a BEAST.
Giving WG your money is like giving your money to a "Nigerian Prince".
FOMO is a helluva drug

Aslain's mod installer worked last update. Consider that instead of the modstation in cases like this.
Can't wait to start the dockyard.
It looks crazy difficult
Thanks for explaining this today.
OH BOY! A New Cammo. Be still my beating heart

It seems there were some golden tokens earned on the test server. I don't know if they will count towards this event though.
The Karl was available as a standard premium, not as a part of any bundle.
But she still isn’t in the shop
FOMO... I learned my lesson with World Tour Golf game. I totaled it up and I spent over $3K on digital golf clubs..... AARRGGG!!!

Even that amount is high considering a single premium ship in this game costs the same (or more) as a newly released triple A game.. Sad
Don't bet on getting the WI, after getting home. I have tried to get logged on three times this morning (WED), no luck.
Try reinstalling the game or contacting WG customer support
You can also turn it around: They need money.
And instead of introducing stuff that HAS TO BE BOUGHT, like a super strong ship. They introduce unnecessary ships, that basically only have sentimental value.
Like this, they get their money, without spoiling the game itself for the non-paying customers.
In WOT it was exactly the other way around. They started introducing the most op premiums, which simply spoiled the game for me (and probably a lot of other people).
They are called Whales
I never intentionally do dockyard stuff, ive gotten a few mid point rewards just from finishing tasks I wasnt even aware of. However I never set out to do it. In my case I just dont see the ship at the end being worth the grinding. Its happened with other things where finishing a long grind results in me just being entirely sick of the game after finishing it. Course also can happen that i simply have no interest in the reward ship, due to its type, armarments, design.
I haven’t played WoWs for over two years now but this new dockyard event is giving me FOMO vibes.
Prey on the worst of humans and make yourself rich...sounds about right.
Ahh... the "Wishing Wharf". Bravo they found another way to create a gotcha game.
Not started nothing on the EU server yet 😀
Did you notice that the battle pass cost 2500dubs but if you complete to level 20, you get all your dubs back!
I heard they halfed the amount of dubs you get back to 1250.
It's only FOMO if you fall for it.
The Golden camo looks terrible. No FOMO for me here, they can keep that disgusting design
It's like the piñata section of the armoury. It's all just crappy camos and a waste of space.
99% of the time I run ships without a camo, since most of them look silly and crap. I like most of the historical ones and some special ones, such as Gascognes golden figurehead one.
yes we can hold it against them "idiots keep paying" is never an acceptable excuse for bad business practice, by that logic we should legalise meth
Yes, FOMO is real, but so are the whales. And there are enough of them to make WG a lot of money. I used to be one of those whales, but the more subs in see in every match nowadays, the less money I spend in this game now.
Could not care less about WG adding a whale camo. If it helps paying for the game, gg to them
It takes a bit more to scare me.
Useless pixels be useless.
Lol
@@Shiny49GER i mean i feel like camos are more for yourself, than showing off. i dunno i never notice other ships camos when i shoot them ahhah.
How many levels does FOMO have? Just one more.
Chikuma II Golden = Trump cruiser
"when the game does finally die." Like that hasnt already happened.
Alot of people keep saying that. But they are still strong. They are a business, and will keep the doors open as long as they are making money.
When is the ship coming to eu? I thought it was today?
NA updates are always going live on wednesdays and EU updates on thursdays
@@saiyajinog7424 oh thanks
@@helekachopter696 you're welcome dude ✌
On the EU Server they Display the possibility to get the golden chakuma, IT IS 0.6% . FOMO !!!!
FOGAF scares me! Fear of Giving A F_ck. WG have lost me with all their antics, now I just play if I want. Cheers
Chikuma II droprate = 1.8%
Chikuma II Golden droprate = 0,01% 😮
Of I can't grind it, don't care. I'd gotten over my 'keeping up with the Joneses' a looong time ago. Also I do enjoy hunting premium ships with tech tree ships.
Grind like a mad man or skip it all together ?
Right, they can pound sand for all i care.
Until the jerkovs remove subs then the entire player base shouldn’t give wargaming a penny or a cent!
whlle they are at it they should remove the jerkovs from the player base that make random battles so cancerous.
Speaking of FOMO I almost spent the money to buy Maine
WG only does what people allow them to do.
This is a player problem not a WG problem
Surprise suprise WG is pushing to get every dollar they can from all the game fanatics (I'm one of those that if thay had the money I'd spend it to get all the ships)
Seems like typical WG to me.
I never interact with these thing at all. Just play the game, cant have FOMO if you have tunnelvision xD
I just want BB-64
This is my 2 Cents:
-Wargaming is to greedy for example everything is doubloon wanna change captains from ship, retrain, captain, events, ship dockyard.
What would you do? (Anyone)
WG is going the gacha game route for a while now
Tbh, i dont give a damn about a ship being golden or not.
They started full copying Warface monetization model lmao
Not really a problem to me, in that I am going to ignore it and just play the game.
Don't get me wrong, it does annoy me, but I feel like I have more real things to worry about than missing out on some virtual boat.
