Cliff Robertson was a bit too old in '63 to play JFK in '43, but he nails the part, & was JFK's 1st choice to play him. Haven't seen it in a while but it deserves a 2nd look...George, Canada

@@sherryhannah9262 I think it's a wonderful movie and it's mostly historically correct. For those reasons, I'm guessing you will enjoy the film.

Those guys sailed a boat because they don't ilke car dealers.
How does a huge ship like a destroyer sneak up on a speedboat like a PT boat? JFK was heroic in the aftermath of losing his ship but was a disaster and derelict in his duty in getting run over in the first place.
That was JFK all over. A great man in a crisis but he's usually the guy that got you into trouble in the first place.
Thick fog camouflaged the ship that rammed their P.T. Boat. I doubt they had radar on a wooden boat as cheap as that.
@@MrJuvefrank As i recall in the movie they mention the 109 was to get radar in a month or so but the ship was sunk before that happened.

The PT 109 did not have radar, and the visibility was zero. A Japanese destroyer could easily come out of the dark and ram the 109. None of his men faulted him for the loss of the 109, but in letters to the families of the two crewmen who were lost, he took full responsibility.
No doubt he was a political appointee. The Navy doesn't give ships to noobies...even back then during shortages.
Was he capable? Probably...he knew boats mostly sail...and the PT was just that... a boat.
Was he capable the night they were run over...we will never know...the fog has covered it all.
The film bombed when it came out and it’s still a dud to this day. The Kennedy family had direct and all inclusive control of the making of this movie, and it shows. Awful.
