    Can we be honest about something? Since Dilla died there hasn’t been one, NOT ONE, producer that could do what he did on a track. Not DJ Premier, not Dr. Dre, not Kanye, Pete Rock, Madlib or Timbaland. J Dilla is and will always be a CHOP GOD.

    • @pookeyblow
      @pookeyblow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      The chop god is DJ Premier. There's no doubt about it. His whole style is based on chopping, way more complex and frequently than J Dilla. Donuts was a very innovative and unique way of making sample chop based beats, but Dilla's best work is his soulful stuff with deep sub-bass, inspired by Pete Rock (Dilla's hero).

    • @blackjay3771
      @blackjay3771 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@pookeyblow you’re smoking something dude. Let’s keep it 💯. DJ Premier is definitely top 3 producer of all time. Without a doubt. But he COULD NOT touch Dilla as far as production. Out of Preemo’s whole catalog, not one song could touch the innovation and instrumentation of Dilla. Preemo’s lane was finding a snippet of a sound and flipping it into a song. Now one thing Premier is untouched on is beats. If you had said that I’d roll. But he couldn’t touch Dilla on production. Give me one Premier album that could touch Donuts. Yeah, I thought so. 😂😂

    One of the most amazing things about him making this music when he was in the hospital is he had lupus while doing this among Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). I’m not sure how TTP feels, but once I took Prilosec and one of the super rare side effects is medically induced lupus. It’s temporary, but it can happen, it happened to me. And I have to tell you, my fingers hurt SO BAD when this was happening to me. It was like someone broke all of my fingers and they were not healing. And the fact he was able to make this album while feeling this way (among other things) really showed his passion shining through despite the pain. It’s truly amazing.
