Using your videos for my English classes. I'm very glad to have found your channel since it provides a great perspective from a Russian-speaking person, which is useful for my students
Only thing I'm surprised about is how much it rains! I don't find it super cold and we do have moisture/humidity issues, but no black mold!! We are remodeling so we are painting with an anti-humidity paint and then regular paint. Definitely need warm clothes and a space heater in the bedroom, but it's all about adapting and learning what works for you!! We just repaired a wood burner so yhat should help yhis year!!
It can be if you run it 24/7, but not if you heat things up and then turn it down, wear warm clothes and use a wood burner if you can...All about management!! I don't find it too expensive, but I lived in France!!
I've experienced many winters of -40 C in Canada but I've never been as cold as I am now in Portugal. The lack of heating and insulation in homes here is brutal. I'm staying with friends and they all wear jackets and hats inside of their house and act like this is normal. Electric heaters can't be used a lot because electricity is crazy expensive. I can't believe this is a EU country. It's miserable and I can't wait to leave. It's a good place to come for a week in the summer but unless I was really rich I couldn't imagine living here in these conditions.
I'm pretty excited to visit Portugal for my first time after living in Brazil and spending some time in Winnipeg - MB. Let's see, maybe we gonna be moving there next year.
I decided to give a bit perspective from the north of the country(Porto). I dont find it particularly cold(well, its defenetely colder than the south), but when it comes to rains it sucks so much. Last year it was raining for a few months straight, like almost every day, even on Christmas and a new year. But what is even worse are the housing conditions. Many houses(mine uncluded) as you've told has no heating whatsoever. Again, in the north it sucks much more, because winters temperatures are lower. When it was +12 degrees last winter, we had +14 degrees inside even on a sunny side of our apartment(being on a sunny side only helps when there is a sun and not the constant raining). The only option is to use electric heaters that you buy yourself but for our apartment you still can't heat up all of the apartment due to its size. Last winter we ended up using heaters only for the room we work in and put up a lot of clothes to stay relatively warm. All in all I do appreciate local summer being much milder than Lisbon, but winters are harsh.
Same here in Hong Kong, it can still get quite chilly, sometimes as low as +5 and there is no central heating here. None of the buildings are insulated so if it's cold out it's cold inside. The problem is that people believe Hong Kong is jungle like Phuket but our winters are quite cool and unpredictable. Sure it can still be +30 in January but can also be +5 depending on the year
It's FREEZING In November & Winter Months Here In Portugal These Days! Years Ago When I Used To Come For Winter, It Was Very Warm; We Used To Have 25-27C Back Then. Portugal NOT FOR WINTER Nowadays! But a BEAUTIFUL, FABULOUS Country!❤️x

Today it was already -3C in Toronto and I was into my 2nd level extreme coat stage....gloves out, hood up....the 3rd level is still in the wardrobe....I know you want to be here...so I will think of you when I have my next whiskey by the Pub fire...as the snow/ sleet plays outside!!! Yulia, I'm going to Lisbon this Christmas - New Years and am getting so many realistic expectations from your channel, thank you! PS: that lipstick shade looked great on you!
Well I left windy cold water Algarve and I'm back in Bodrum Turkiye now swimming in the still warm water bays daily and its now November. Its sooooooo good to be back. Summer is hot af though tbf 😅
I spend each winter in a Canadian 5th wheeler in Alentajo which I find to be warmer and more comfortable than Lisbon. I feel cold when I visit my girlfriend in Lisbon.
So glad I found your channel. I'm coming to Lisbon next week (1/17) for my birthday and I'm terrified it will be dismal the whole week I'm there. I'm excited nonetheless, but hoping I get a little sun on my tour days. Thank you!!
From Southern California, where I've heard the weather in Lagos in similar. But it does not sound like it. We don't get mold. We do have central heat and AC. Jeez, I'm going to Lagos in February. I think I'll bring my serious winter clothes. Thank you!
Hi Julia, loving your videos! I am planning to visit Porto/Lisbon & Madeira in the second half of October this year. I wish I could travel earlier (September end) to enjoy better weather and longer day time. Would you recommend traveling in October? Thanks
You have a northeastern European accent. You reference Canada but why not your home country? I'm sure it's a lot colder than Victoria where I'm from. I play golf on Christmas day every year.
I have a question if anyone in the comments can help Do the years you spend studying in portugal count towards citizenship or not? Is there a way around it?
You talk about snow in the north as if it's common. Snow in Portugal only exists in small parts of Serra da Estrela, a remote area far away from Porto. Hard to ever see any negative temperatures there.
im sorry but that its not true at all.....there are a lot of regions with snow every single years....serra da estrela is not even in the north region.... I got negative temperatures every single year. search for beira alta region and tras-os montes. Cities like Guarda or Bragança are cold..Porto is not cold at all...
There are negative temperatures in interior north and interior centre, like in Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, Viseu, Covilhã, etc. Near de cost, in the litoral, in the most populated areas is a bit different. But the problem in the litoral is that rarely there is central heating. Even in many coffees and restaurants there is no heating, and the sensation is worst that in the coldest regions.
Hello there , did you get D7 visa as retiree ?because you still look young ! So you and your husband bought a property there ? If someone has a property in Portugal does it help in any way fir the D7 pensioners Visa when applying in the Consulate ? I know after 2024 immigrant have to pay Taxes ,maybe 10 % ,even pensioners too ? Thank you .
Hello, D7 is not only for retirees, it's also for passive income holders. we didn't buy any properties in Portugal, we just showed a steady passive income. hope this helps!
You are talking about Portugal as a whole, while The Algarve has very different winters than the north. It's apples and oranges. The Algarve has very comfortable winters, averaging around 18 degrees with lot's of sun.
@@ThisisYulia Winters are not a little bit different than the north, but enormously. 2 different climates. Agreed, of course out of every 10 winters, maybe 2 are different, but in my experience winter in the Algarve gives between 15 and 20 degrees on average with a very nice and calm atmosphere. Last new years day i was on the terrace in my t-shirt enjoying the sun in 19 degrees. Incomparable with the north.
I’m from The Netherlands, currently around 0- 5C , i will be visiting in January, is it in Lisbon and porto more like a fall chilly cold? Thinking about bringing a lighter jacket and layers or will it be colder and should i bring my winter jacket?
I think it really depends on how you can tolerate cold: I’m already wearing my winter jacket while my husband wears a light coat 🥶 during the day it can get really hot tho!
