      LOL my dealer said there was a person who could give me a total orientation but they never returned my requests or phone calls. My salesperson gave me the basics I needed to not wreck the Crosstrek Limited I got in December of 2021, thank goodness for that and the manual and your videos! I am STILL learning the finer points of this Uber geeky cool car, retired engineer here and love all the bells and whistles!

    Hey Alex! I own a 2018 Outback and have questions about the CarPlay features: When I start my car and my iPhone connects via Bluetooth, it frequently begins automatically playing some random song that may or may not be in my playlists. Is there a way to disable this “auto-play” feature, as it’s quite annoying. It happens less frequently when the phone is connected via cable. Thanks for considering my question and for your videos.

    A relative of mine just bought a 2022 Outback and he is using Apple CarPlay. He has found that when using GoogleMaps through Apple CarPlay, the audio navigation stops when aa call comes through (or when he is in a call before starting to navigate) or when he plays music through an app. This is not the case for me in my non-subaru vehicle using Apple CarPlay. Is this to be expected or is there a workaround? Thanks for your help.

    Enjoyed the video, thank you. Here's one quirk in my 2021 Forester that I hate: whenever I unplug my phone, the radio is comes. The only way to get rid of the radio is to turn the volume all the way down. (and then you have to remember it's turned all the way down the next time you plug in your phone.) VERY frustrating. I want to turn the radio off! I've asked a few people at my dealership about this, and they just shrug their shoulders. Anyone else bothered by this? Thank you!

    Hi Alex, just bought and drove home my new 2023 Outback Touring XT last night (mar 6, 2023). Today I have been looking at videos that pertain to my new vehicle. Your several videos are the BEST! Very informative. Thank You for giving me the confidence and knowledge to use all the features this vehicle has. Your presentation and voice levels are excellent. Thank You.

    How do you voice command (ask) Siri for directions, on maps?

    Hey Alex, Does Subaru 2018 model support apple car play? I bought it from Japan but could not connect it yet. Would be grateful if I get some suggestions. Regards

      Interesting that you can buy it from Japan! What are the advantages to doing so?

    Thanks Alex from down under Australia. On my 2019 Forester, the ”voice” button can also be used to do google searches even while navigating in maps. Eg. Check the population of the nearest town etc.. Great tutorial.

    Thanks for making all things Subaru easier for us to understand. We’re going to look at (buy?) an Ascent Onyx in a couple of days. We’ll trade in a very low mileage 2018 Subaru Forester which I think the dealership is excited to get … we will see. Thanks.

    Hey Alex,
    Love your vids, always seem to find something new about my car.
    Do you know how to make android auto full screen work? When i use android auto, only the top half of the screen is used, and this deters me from using it because the map is tiny and hard to see.

    I have a 2023 ascent. When I try to call someone you can't hear them but they can hear me, ive tried with android auto and judt bluetooth. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the phone. I tried resetting the radio. I adjusted all the sound settings and everything is up to date. Sound works great for everything else except when I try to call. Any idea?

      I was going to suggest adjusting the mic settings within your car's touch screen. However, it sounds like you may have already done that. If that's the case, I'd suggest having a subaru technician look at it to see if something else is going on with it.

    I found that with a wireless CarPlay adapter, you have better map functionality. You can now drag through the map with your finger rather than those irritating arrow buttons. I made a video to show you how it works:

      I fixed it!!!!! I reseted the setting on the car and turned my phone off and back on. Then I checked on my phone settings/ general / car play is turned on. Then I connected my usb cable & long pressed the voice command on my steering wheel and it connected !!! Asked for permission- allowed and all set! Now I can see the car play button on my car apps nice and bright!
      Thanks, I hope this helps more people as well!

    Couple of questions on no CarPlay related topic.
    My Outback 2021 makes three beeps warning when approaching some intersections with no other indication or message.
    My guess it’s a warning about speed cameras but I am not sure. Can you please confirm or deny this?
    The other question is a fundamental:) hence no front approach sensors installed (which is so stupid) I unable to find a way to park close to the obstacle which ever it may be. Camera can be used but this is not user friendly. All my other cars works similar to revers function (camera and approach alert) and It’s done automagically. My wife after first week of driving this vehicle managed to scratch front bumper.
    Thanks

      Indeed! The lack of front sensors in my ‘24 Ascent Touring really shocked me! I came from a MUCH less expensive ‘20 Ford Escape that DID have that. WHY OH WHY, SUBARU???

    Does the phone always needs to be connected to the USB? I know others offer wireless CarPlay

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, for CarPlay to work it requires to be connected to the cable. You can still use Bluetooth wirelessly though to listen to music and make phone calls.

      @@alexpmo Thanks for this video. I just picked up a 2022 Forester Sport. As a follow-up to this question, I've been able to use Bluetooth to make a call without attaching my phone via USB and Apple Car Play. Can I text using Bluetooth wirelessly? I've tried and the display says I have to download my phone book (which I have) and then it says I need to change a setting on my iphone. I've been unable to figure out what to change on the iphone.

    Is there anyway to add to the Apple Play apps or delete some?

  • @tristankrieger8264

    Something that you didnt touch on is that, at least on the wrx, android auto only utilizes half the screen. The bottom half literally stays as the radio portion, which is completely useless because I have android auto.

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, unfortunately Android limits this. We had the same issue with Apple at first but ultimately got around it. So that's why Apple CarPlay shows the full screen and Android Auto only displays half.
