Hey guys, it costs me a lot to do these videos (I have to pay someone to make and animate the models)! If you want to see more, help me make it successful by liking it, watching it all the way through, and sharing it with your friends!
My favorite ship has a big brother? Thanks for the update new favorite
You got it bub
love it
I was thinking Venator was better capital ship than MC80's for Rebellion's hit&fade tactics - it's better geared for carrier operations. Sure, it's nowhere as tanky, but it doesn't need to be - all rebel fighters are FTL capable, so you park your Venator a short jump away if need be. It's more of a mobile fighter star base, than a capital ship - looking from rebellion perspective.
all time favourite, its a shame that we see such little action of it, and it would be awesome if it would be in a new episode of the clone wars
I feel like Snoke saw the Secutor and was like “I want that, but bigger, much much bigger”
"Make it WIDE. I want my ship to be THICC."
First Order Engineer: how big do you want your flagship?
Snoke: YES

Like I said on Twitter, you must live in a Universe that has 48 hours in a day. You produce so much thought out content. Great video.
Appreciated it there and appreciate it here too!
Still like the Venator way more, its so a e s t h e t i c. The Secutor is literally a huge Dorito
Oohhh mah favorite chip! GIMME IT NAOW... OM NOM NOM!!!!
lol 😂
Doritos are the s h i t
the venator is the best ship in star wars in my opinion
Literally the entire design aesthetic of the galactic is big space doritos
Ah yes, the Secutor. For when A Star Destroyer was too much, but a Quasar not enough. Or when you want to build a memey Pentastar Alignment fleet with these things and Venators, using a Muni to scout.
*when ISD is not enough, but SSD is too much for carrying your fighters
Kuba Król It would be interesting to speculate how the Galactic Civil War would go if the Empire used these as the standard capital ship.
@@kingandcountry1242 I think that Secutors would have no problem destroying fleets of smaller vessels, however as they are more focused on carrying fighters, Lucrehulks or heavier MC cruisers would be problematic opponents, where ISD (especially ISD II) firepower would be more helpful
Kuba Król As far as direct firepower, most likely. But for the star fighters, it could be a different story as the Empire has an incentive to invest in either more efficient masses of fighters or better fighters overall because of their new doctrine instead of a hard-hitting capital ship. I.E. more TIE Interceptors/Advanced/Defenders instead of normal TIEs, or they could possibly shift to a mass droid star fighter doctrine with a larger carrier.
@@kingandcountry1242 TIEs were relatively good when were introduced, also considering capabilities and cost of their predecessors (Eta-2 and V-W), however more important question is how fast their successor would be designed and how easily could replace TIE on assembly lines
I always thought the starfighter compliment of a Secutor being less than a Venator was frankly dumb and I'm glad the designer also shares that sentiment.
The video was fantastic, these always make my day. And the Venator is one of my most favorite Star Wars ships
The Venators are pretty damn sexy, especially in all grey

Let’s go! Finally a video on the Dorito Star Destroyer it’s my favorite carrier in Star Wars
THANK YOU ECK THE SECUTOR IS MY FAVORITE CARRIER MWA!

Mine is the the valor or harrower there mainly battleships but i dont realy know of many carriers in the old republic era or many ships in that matter.
O hey Nero, haven't seen you in awhile
@@emperortethysusdacertified8175
Im aroudn
My favourite carrier is the Endurance (the retconned 3d model, not the one seen in Cracken's Threat Dossier), with the Secutor in second and the Trade Federation Heavy Munitions Cruiser (which was never stated to be a carrier, but looks very much like one) in third place, unless you count the Providence as a carrier, then that would be third.
I love how you teach us about so many things I would have had a lot less knowledge about without your videos
Same
I really appreciate your commitment and effort you put into your videos dude!
The way fighter capacity has been calculated for some of the largest ships has long bothered me. the use of only single decks vs using double or triple levels for ships like the Lucrehulk or Providence. If you look at the size of the quasar fire carriers 48 fighter bay and just fit that mass into another ship it becomes apparent how inefficient ships can be.
I think one of the biggest issues I've noticed from cross sections in reference books is a poor concept of the size of a meter and the inability to scale up and down sizes.
I've noticed the same. A lot of these fan designers are completely off the mark. One of the most disgustingly underplayed specs was one I saw for the Executor-class Super Star Destroyer is an abysmal 144 starfighters. That's hilariously minute and completely forgetting that you could safely assume vehicle storage bays would be able to hold hundreds of ships. Mind you, there would likely be easily over six to eight storage bays. I think a safe estimation would be 2,000 - 3,000 starfighters.
The Secutor should easily be able to carry upwards of 600 - 800 starfighters. I saw a person say 144 made perfect sense, and... no. No it doesn't. The docking and interception bays for fightercraft do not hold the fighters within just the docking bay's launch racks. Star Wars ships would *definitely* have internal storage bays for not only ground vehicles, but also fightercraft. 144 is criminally low, and not appropriate due to the lack of that idea's consideration of internal vehicle storage.
@Joseph Sosa
I don't see how you had a gripe with what I said, since you seemed to support my point.
@@BlueRaven893 I think 600 to 800 is what it was capable of carrying but 144 is what the empire typically operates because of the Tarkin Doctrine and favoring heavy gun armed capital ships to starfighter swarms
@@RocketHarry865
I think that's just headcanoning. It appears to be blatant ignorance on logistics. The fighter bays alone would encompass mall-sized parking lots with multi-level rows with supporting column structures. It's obvious that they made it into a hybrid warship, but neglected the disparity between relative storage space and armor mass consumption of said space.
Point being, they could have just actually done the math. Would've been way more justified.
While I do agree that the Secutor should carry more, I'm also confused as to how the Venator can even carry 400 fighters. 200 makes sense to me. That's still more than double the ISD count. 300 is... a bit much. But 400, I truly do not know how, and the ship should honestly be OP. Especially when it also has Gunships, shuttles, and a prefabricated Garrison base. Some even have SPHA-Ts onboard.
Thanks so much eck! I love how you take viewer ideas for videos, and help them understand things better. This is why you’re my favorite TH-camr. 💜💜
Excellent as always, and yeah 144 fighters on a ship that size thats a dedicated carrier, makes no sense at all to me. If it was closer to 5 - 800 or even 1000 it would be more understandable.
Very impressive video. Marvelous. Marvelous. I shall now bring myself to order 500 of these from Kuat Drive Yards.
With the Secutor's focus on fighters (the 8+ wings version), imagine what impact a number of them would've had at the battle of Endor. You would think the Imperial Remnant would have addressed the fighter disparity some time after Endor.
I know you'll get to this in the finale of the Vong sub-series. Won't stop me from going through the motions though. Anyways:
Can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the entire franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!* I have made this request: Ninty times. Part of me *wants* this to hit one-hundred.
One of my favourite ships in Star Wars. Aesthetically, its very different to other KDY built star destroyers that the Empire uses. It's more practical than the ISD because of its speed and fighter compliment, but much more graceful, even beautiful in a militaristic kind of way.
Pretty good video.
Personally I preferred the older style of videos where the images of the model or whatever you wanted to show us filled the whole screen, so we didn't have that tactical map style border around it. And that bit of static in the middle of the video, I just don't see the point of it.
Now I want this ship vs it’s predecessor
The Venator
Every time I see an carrier designed for the Empire, I can't help but think "OK, that's really cool, but if those existed, the Empire would have used them, and found out that they're a better idea than Star Destroyers."
Tarkin Doctrine is a hell of a drug.
The Secutors are overwhelmingly the workhorse of my Greater Maldrood fleet in the Thrawn's Revenge Empire at War mod. I really love the design of the whole thing.
Amazing video as always and you definitely put a lot of time and effort into it
Favourite TH-cam channel HANDS DOWN
You've made my empire at war conquests a lot more strategic, the empire thanks you for your service
I don't think the star destroyer concept is bad. You can broadside easy but you can bring all guns to bare by facing forward if they are arranged properly. Just wish they would stop putting the command bridge on a stick outside the main hull.
I have a feeling it’s a reference to the Fuso class battleships of WWII. Look up pictures of them and you’ll see.
The bridge location in most sci-fi annoys me, why have it on the exterior of the ship, you don't need windows.
Only major sci-fi ships I can think of with good bridge placement are covenant ships, it's deep inside the hull.
And the battlestar. They keep it in the center forward part of the ship, the part with the thickist armor deep in the hull.
@@Specter5053 aye. Forgot about BSG, the of most sci-fi, it does some of the core realism things best. Does sadly still ignore some others, and has one of those weird AI systems which are for some reason especially dumb and inaccurate. No human could ever outshot, out fly, or generally survive vs a capable AI. Our only advantages are unpredictability (not great as AI would adapt at speeds beyond ours) and creativity. Only weakness AI would really have is available hardware.
Ya it super scientificly accurate for a scifi show, besides that angels literaly exist.
Or maybe don't I could never figure that part out.
T-70 X-Wing VS E-Wing
always wanted to see a dedicated video about the Secutor, you did an awesome job.
Glad to finally know where the hangars on this thing were, I'd only seen this thing in Thrawn's Revenge before.
Niiiice. Been waiting for this one, Secutor is why I played GM in Thrawn's Revenge
144 Fighters actually sounds like a lot more reasonable of a load out for a venator then the ridiculous number that is given for the venator which I have never accepted that is way too many Fighters the fit in that thing but 700 sounds about right for this ship especially considering they would be tie Fighters
There does remain doubt as to whether you can REALLY get all 420 ships onto a Venator, yeah.
just 144 fighters? for a ship thats 2.2km long .... the USS Midway could carry 100-133 fighter at was just about 300m long..... and the turboprop/jet fighters are bigger than the Tie Fighters... no, i bet the Venators and the Secutors could take a lot more that just 144..... 700 or twice or 3 times that... easly
@@jamescooper7878 I'm going to be honest I don't really care about a real-world comparison here my issue with the fighter compliment for the venator is that it's fucking ridiculously large compared to pretty much every other ship in Star wars even ships quite a bit larger than itself
@@sammywhite5127it is indeed large, basically 2/3 of the Venator is hangars for fighters/ground vessels... but thats course its a pure fighter carrier, heavy armor, strong shields, minimal weapons but shit tons of tons of fighters XD and i dont see a problem whit that XD
@@jamescooper7878 yes the venator being a dedicated carrier does mean it can have a large fighter compliment then other ships in its size range my issue is how much over the average amount of fighters it is it's ridiculous it has more fighters than dedicated carriers much larger than itself
It's a thing of beauty when the Secutor is on duty.
Love this kind of videos, great job :3
Btw, the new background looks amazing.
I love the Secutor-class Star Destroyer
SOOO much empty space on that ship that could be used for extra defensive guns, additional hangars, even additional shield generators to boost survivability. Plus the continued doctrine of, "stick the bridge of the ship up on struts and hope they're dumb enough not to concentrate fire on it."
Secutor gives off the same vibe design intent wise as real life Fleet carriers. Venetors are like the Ise and Hyuga imo
You can use the Secutor in the Battlefront Commander Mod for Empire at War
The ending of your videos always make me freaking about my computer or sound card having a problem !
Sounds like the 144 came from some of the Executor lore. One of the employees probably confused the names when referencing that point.
Macross Frontier era colony defense fleet plus SMS strike force vs the fleet at the battle of endor(legends).
Oh another Macross Fan. This is a Interesting find, I doubt he would be able to do it because of Copyright issues. *But here's to hoping!*
*Imperials' face when their ships start entering the atmosphere and start walking*
Or when they start having J-pop blasted at them
@@weldonwin no the paramilitary sound forces are only sent out if anything needs to be culture shocked (Zentradi fleets) though most sound forces are also deployed due to newer developments as seen in Frontier and Delta. But they need to know if the enemy is effected by foldspace manipulation.
Its Macross, J-Pop will be in there somewhere, its kinda the franchise's thing
It is ironic how the Galactic Empire focused so heavily on anti-capital ship warfare when their primary enemy mostly relied on starfighters. Seriously, If the Empire had focused more heavily on advanced starfighters with independent hyperdrives, carriers would have been far less important. They could've been repurposed to function as mobile maintenance, refueling, and staging hubs. They could even have on-board rest/rec/dining facilities for pilots and other personnel.
I stay for the dog head pat at the end 😊
I could also see the New Republic using this as well.
Personal shield technology compared Dune Halo Mass Effect Star Trek Star Wars Stargate and Warhammer 40K
I like how Star Wars ships show the differences in species attributes. Mon Calamari Cruisers are optimized for how an aquatic species would see space battles, a 3D environment. Human ships see 3D space battles as 2D naval engagements. Also the arms race, the X-Wing/A-Wing were useful against the empire's Tie fighters, but a snub fighter would have done poorly against the CIS's Vulture Droids. Tie Fighters having human pilots, limited amount of time they can pilot their vessels. Vulture Droids having extremely limited fuel, but on idle can stay out almost indefinitely. X-Wing/A-Wing shielded and hyper-drive equipped would have been very expensive against the cheaper waves of Vulture Droids. However the X-Wing/A-Wing were almost tailor made vs the Empire's Tie Fighters.
Each situation had its own Pros/Cons to the ships designed/used.
Keep doing videos about the Clone Wars. They’re my favorite.
if you compare it to a battleship (star destroyer) and an aircraft carrier (secutor) an aircraft carrier has less batteries of cannon and mainly relies on the other ships around it and the aircraft it carries.
Another use would be ferrying replacement star fighters and pilots to various starships and garrisons. The Secutor may also contain advanced repair facilities that would be difficult to justify placing on every Star Destroyer.
That was a classic eckharts video
I don't really like the shape of it, it just looks like a grey Dorito in space with a tower for a bridge.
It should cut some of the edges of the back corners but not have it cut too far in, the bridge should be pushed inward more and have more of anything to put on the ship so it's not too obvious where exactly the bridge is.
other than that pretty much everywhere else involving the vessel is a good improvement as far as I can think of
It was originally supposed to be a cross between arrowhead and chevron shaped, or so I thought.
Enjoyed the video thanks. Just wanted to say about the fighter amount, when this first was designed the heaviest ship the SSD only carried 12 squadrons, 144 fighters, the ISD 6 squadrons or 72 fighters. I think this came out before the clone wars and the Venator class so I can see where 144 fighters came from and was seen as a big carrier class.
This ship with redundant shield generators, more generators, and a larger storage capacity for more fighters... I would call it my home.
Every time I rewatch the Clone Wars series, while I love the series but I’m disappointed that we never see the Venator show it’s true power, I mean we’ll see 3-5, or even more, in a fleet together, but never more than a dozen or so starfighters, instead of the literal thousands fleets of that size could have fielded, and what separatist fleet could withstand an attack run of say 1400 Y wings, 180 ARC-170s and 600 Z-95 headhunters.
That sort of firepower could lay waste to entire Star systems, so even a large fleet of separatist warships wouldn’t stand a chance, especially as we see that even just a couple ion torpedoes could leave a large warship defenseless, 2,000+ ships with at least half a dozen proton torpedoes and 1400 which also could carry ion torpedoes, the seppie forces wouldn’t stand a chance.
Another great video thanks eck
Please do the cas assault carrier from halo video that you had as an option in the recent poll, please
I have never heard of this ship class before. Cool.
Given the Empire’s love of TIEs, I’m a bit surprised they didn’t have a ton of carrier strike groups like the US does.
2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer
Hi eckharts, cool video =) I like the Secutor design and i agree with you that 144 fighters is a pretty low number.
Definitely didn’t know this thanks for the info. Great vid
The Secutor was not what I expected
The reason for the 144 fighters is that it was stated in a FFG sourcebook for their RPG. This RPG is notorious for nerfing ISDs and other vessels to more manageable levels for players with a YT-1300. Statted realistically, it would probs hold a hella lot more.
Space lasers PEW PEW
love using the secutor in the EAW remake mod as the rebellion, great ship earlier on
I would have definitely included the Venator's forward dorsal hangar on the Secutor, and then a much larger one at the rear, with four ventral hangars midship. I'd slim down the triangular frame a bit to make it just less ugly. Give it some notching along the hull edges for Venator callbacks.
Would love to see either a video on your top five bombers or one on the revenge class carrier
it's basically if the supremacy had a baby with the venator, or if a dorito had a baby with an engine
The less sexy bigger brother to the Venator-Class Star Destroyer
The Secutor-Class Battle Carrier
it does everything the venator does but better . big bro secutor handles Business so that little sister venator can look good
This looks like an awesome ship!
I wish there was more lore on the forerunners. I’d love to see a battle between the empire and the forerunners
The venator will always be my favorite cap ship
Its a shame such ships never appeared in Star wars media.
I really enjoy your videos, thanks for the info!!
Venator: Dorito...
Secutor: Bigger Dorito
(They both launch hundreds of smaller doritos into battle.)
this is the kind of ship that steals Quasar-Fire class cruiser's lunch money
Secutors are basically oversized cursors flying in space
I think an awesome video game to play would be something of a cross between civilizations (the nation building strategy game) no man's sky fleet building mechanics, and then make it all star wars. Control your own fleet, conquer the galaxy, and fight in first person in the space battles. Maybe a bit ambitious but It would be awesome
I'm glad that's canon.
OwO
Brother Secutwor is a beast!
Can we get more old republic lore? Nice video as always
The old numbers were 74 fighters for a SD. That is a full wing of 6 12-fighter squads. As such 144 is not an unreasonable number for the secutor which looks roughly twice a SDs size
Would love a similarvideo on the Praetor!
Awesome. I Love the secutor. It Just Looks awesome and i Like the Concept.
I allways try to capture it in the thrawn campain.
Thank you Foto the Video.
So a fully dedicated 'space aircraft carrier' then?
Anyways, bottom hanger ports for smaller craft would come in handy for orbital bombing raids, top hanger for emergency docking in case a craft is damaged and needs to land *'now'* or for emergency evacuations from a battle, *"Below or on top, dock so we can get the Hell out!"* I can see that being a phrase said among the lower ranks on a Secutor, reminding the pilots what to do if things go sour in a battle.
I LOVE THE VENATOR STAR DESTROYER
I think the secutor having no dosial doors because think it about this way it's a major target for the enemy like a carefully planned strike you could simply take it out when they launch fighters
I've actually done the math and it's a lot easier to fit that many vehicles into a ship than you think it is. People don't seem to realize just how damn small these fighters are compared to the ship itself. If you put a fighter and Venator right next to each other, to scale, the fighter would be nearly invisible. The Z-95 Headhunter is the largest fighter stored aboard Venators, but it's still over 16,000 times larger by volume than the fighter! Obviously they can't put all of the internal space for storing fighters, but storing 420+ fighters would be easy for a ship of such volume. I imagine they wouldn't fit all those fighters right in the hangar bay, I think they'd store them in deep internal racks.
Side note: I calculated the volume of all the fighters on the ship, and it's less than 1% of the ship's total volume. I realize that there's more to storing a fighter than just having the physical space to store the fighter itself, but still, I'd say that just based on that, they can store them easily. And consider the fact that modern aircraft carriers can carry typically over 100 fighter jets. A Venator is over 3 times longer than an aircraft carrier and dozens of times larger by volume. It doesn't seem far fetched at all to me that it could hold hundreds of fighters
You should do "could a single CAS Carrier defeat modern Earth"
Resurgent Class SD vs MC85 Cruiser (Raddus)
Bellator Class SSD vs. Resurgent Class SD
Nebula Class SD vs. Pellaeon Class SD (or any comparable SD)

Results:
1.- MC75 cause the shields
2.- Bellator SSD (you're kidding rigth?)
3.- Nebula SD, have many heavy weapons, hace concussion missiles, powerful fighters and have a very strong armor and shields
But that is what I thought
Alejandro Hernández but the resurgent extremely outguns the mc 75
@@darthrevan704 but my lord, you forget the power of hyperspeed ramming, with it the raddus is the most powerful ship in the entire galaxy
@@darthrevan704 Sorry I'm wrong, I mean the MC85
Alejandro Hernández
3 might be a close one, depending on how you look at it:
The Nebula's armaments consist of: 40 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries, 40 Turbolaser Cannons, 20 Ion Cannons, 8 Tractor Beams and 8 Concussion Missile Launchers;
The Pellaeon's armaments consist of: 5 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries, 5 (Medium) Turbolaser Batteries, 4 Ion Cannon Batteries, 5 Proton Torpedo Launcher Batteries, 3 Tractor Beam Batteries and an Interdiction Field.
The difficult thing about determining the strenght of the Pellaeon is that the writers have never been exactly clear about how many guns they are supposed to have, with one source (the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition Core Rulebook) stating that each battery consists of 1 to 10 guns.
With that in mind, the Pellaeon possesses (at most) 50 Heavy and Medium Turbolasers, 40 Ion Cannons, 50 Torpedo Lauchers and (for whatever reason) 30 Tractor Beams, with which the ship should at least be able to pierce the shields of the Nebula* and heavily damage it, even if it still loses in the end, since improvements to shields for the "ISD 3" have been mentioned as being part of it's sloped surface, but no mention of any improvements to it's armor was made.
Alternatively, this thing posesses a grand total of 19 weapons and 3 Tractor Beams, making it a weaker ship than even a Carrack Cruiser.
(* by piercing, I'm referring to them being taken out, not being ignored all together)
So.. the Empire has its own version of an "aircraft carrier" for being THAT big.. I agree it should have about what Ladder mentioned or CONSIDERABLY more. Especially since it dont seem too particularly well armed compared to similarly big, armored or well armed ships. Such as anything made for heavy assaults. An im guessing a well coordinated swarm of anti ship fighters would probably take one down with relatively little trouble without other ships guarding or in suppprt.
I like to think the secutor was used during the clone wars like a super star destroyer was used during the galactic civil war

Might I make a suggestion for you next VS video. Perhaps the Spirit of fire vs the Acclimator assault ship.
I have noticed something odd about many of the capitol ships, most of them lacked ventral armaments, stacking everything on the Dorsal.
