Thank you from the core of my heart ❤
Thank you!!!
Bravo 👏👀 May your fans be blessed with the 3 hour version where we get to hear how these films changed you🤞
Yes please
3? That’s cute
I always find very difficult to explain what cinema meant to me. I can say its about learning different cultures or things but in truly, i envoke many emotions during watching films which is hard to explain to another person.we can't just mimic the emotions we felt at the time.
So true!
I love how Roger Ebert called cinema _a machine for generating empathy..._ that you can walk in someone else's shoes for awhile, feel the emotions of another, and be transported by a filmmaker & their team of artists/craftsmen.
The list to end all lists...at least for now.
Until the next one😂
I am a simple man.
I see a thumbnail of Love Exposure, I upvote.
Mishima, Love exposure and the Bergman movies are special to me
Please, put the list in the description so we can copy and paste into our watchlists. I'll favorite this so I can come back and maybe one day watch the ones that I missed (I'm proud and happy I watched many of the movies that appear here, including some I thought nobody else watched, haha...)
This video almost reignited my passion for cinema. Since I've been working in the (microscopic) industry in my country, it now hurts to watch and know amazing films, knowing the impossibility to achieve something like that (sometimes)... It's not an excuse. I lost the fire inside of me and I'm still hopeful one day I'll be back in shape... and not live a day without at least 1 or 2 movies (like when I was younger).
The last few years, I've found joy in animation, but now that I worked in that too, it started to hurt as well.
I suspect I'm not made for these things...
Video games are the one thing keeping me sane. I believe it's because they bring me the pure joy of being just "public".
Qué será, será...
Click on the three dots next to "Clip" under the video. Select Transcript and all of the movies are listed to the right; highlight, copy and paste to Notepad.
I'd have to put at least half these films on my own list of 200... not surprising, since Cinema Cartography is my favorite YT film channel! Would love to watch and talk films with Luiza 😁
There's only a couple handfuls of these I haven't seen, but I'm looking forward to them now, if I wasn't already!
Keep up the _great_ work ❤
PS. Lovely editing, great selections of music!
BTW I love that you mentioned how much these films have not only sparked your imagination, and made you feel less alone, but have "awakened your spirituality". It's a vastly under-recognized aspect, what cinema can do for the soul. 🙏
PPS... I'm so glad you added it, cause it needs far more recognition, but the one shot you used from _Pixote_ is blink-and-you'll-miss-it.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's currently playing on the Criterion Channel. It's a tough watch, but an absolutely _essential_ one!
@@Jimmy1982Playlists Like a Guide for Films like City of Good. Great Film!
I'm 4:25 in and The Colour of Pomegranates has appeared 3 times. I'm gonna guess this infers importance and is not simply an oversight.
I saw love exposure yes

Very upset that Killer Klowns from Outer Space wasn't on the list.
i'll watch it
Thank you I love your videos and am excited to watch the film list, happy to see Love Exposure there watching that movie gave me goosebumps.
I started taking movies more seriously 10 years ago and used Ebert's "Great movie list" to guide me. Think I'll start on this one next.
There's quite a bit of overlap, but there are some gems in here he left out.
thanks for mentioning that list, I am kind of starting to get serious about movies now, and that list will be really helpful
@@Harsht8 It's the greatest art-form to ever exist - the only one composed of all other art-forms... it's just too bad that the money needed to create a film warps whatever artistic merit it may have.
Love exposure!
Your dedication to the integrity of art by being fully viewer funded is admirable :)!!! Thank you
I dont think Ive ever not loved the movies you recommend
Yes....Wings of Desire.....Ordet.....Andrei Rublev....
Heavy on bleak. Low on comedy. Good to see another perspective though.
You’re missing at least one film: Castaway on the Moon. Korean film. Incredible.
I've missed your videos Luiza.
That was a great set of films, but what I loved were the shots you chose to represent them.
Brilliant job!
The Color of Pomegrantes must be really good since it keeps showing up
It is
the awesome taste in cinema!
Oh my Goodness! 200 Films! I love that you love so many visual Masterpieces 😍 Thx
I recognised around 50.
So many films, so little time.
I"m so happy I could cry! Thanks so much!
Fallen Angels
"Come and See" directed by Elem Klimov is another movie worthy of this list.
The editing is just great... Loved it being on cue with the music. And the movies, ohh my god the movies... Ohh my god! What a great selection of movies...
The best thing about Cinéma Cartography is whenever I watch their videos, I forget everything and just want to become an artist.
I'm curious about Luiza's favourite Satyajit Ray movie, is it the Music Room (Jalsaghar)? All the time I was watching the video, I was just waiting for weirder cinema to appear in front of me!
Agreed... brilliant editing! And, yes, what a mix of cinema classics. Very big overlap with my all-time favorites. Would love to watch films with Luiza!
Not that you asked, but my own personal list of Ray's greatest would start with _Dèvi,_ followed by _The Music Room_ 😁 Two absolute masterpieces!
@@Jimmy1982Playlists Mine would be Charulata. That's my favourite of Ray. The next one I'd pick is Jalsaghar.
@@Kieslowski1989 A _great_ film! Funny you mention, because that would be my number 3.
🤔 Actually... now that I think of it... some days that might be my #2! LOL 😉 There's just something about that story, the cinematography, and the main character. _Achingly_ beautiful!
Actually, I think I'm gonna buy that and The Big City from Criterion right now 😁🥰
@@Jimmy1982Playlists Great picks guys! The Big City is my favourite, charulata might be the runner up but they're all honestly great, even his last film ( The Stranger?) was amazing!!
@@h_shah5429 I guess you mean Agantuk (the Stranger)? That was a very good departure for a legend.
Dang, how many times can one person's life change))
I'm amazed by how many movies I recognize.
This was a religious experience. Thank you so much.
this is a true love for cinema
Loved seeing Żuławski's "Diabel" in this video
i didn't get many of them because i know i lack many classical references from before the 60/70s but gosh i love cinema, thinking about it always overwhelmes me
I love this video very much and have viewed it many times but the failure to include Cinema Paradiso is so criminal it makes me cry
Hello! Here to recommend Takashi Makino's work, particularly At the Horizon. Love this list btw
Calogero ‘C’ Anello: “He owes me 20 dollars. It’s been two weeks now, and every time he sees me he keeps dodging me. He’s becoming a real pain in the ass. Should I crack him one, or what?”
Sonny: “You don’t even like him. There’s your answer right there. Look at it this way: It costs you 20 dollars to get rid of him… He’s out of your life for 20 dollars. You got off cheap. Forget him.”
This is insanely enjoyable lol
At first I thought, okay this is a simple idea- but I love this channel
And yeah, what euphoria.
I immediately felt such a celebration of these in myself, all wonderful film’s
Kind of makes me proud of myself for deeply getting into cinema - Herzog said “a pianist is made in childhood, a filmmaker at any age.”
Both thing’s stand as very true in my experience.
I am beyond obsessed with cinema, since 2018 I have been- not long, howbeit I have be totally consumed by it, cathartic and in love.
This channel has absolutely been the most wonderful to listen to source of analysis & commentary concerning cinema / art in general.
Anyway- thank you so much for being an integral, and great part of this somewhat newly developed, insanely deep admiration of everything cinema.
Best channel on yt
A Great edit and really good films, I will surly check out some of these.
This isn’t exactly 200 is it? I notice a few movie names were repeated in the transcript or was that an error?
A City of Sadness... now that's a deep cut worth mentioning
I just added 20+ films to my watchlist. This is an amazing video. Thank you for the effort.
Great list, saw many of my favourite movies there. Thank you for sharing 😊
Bravo! I want to watch them all! THANK YOU!
This is now the third video I've seen that features a piano version of Continuum by Disaster peace
1:29 yeah how? heartfelt sadness of rapists Got you?
❤
Next on the agenda is 500 films then 1,000 films.
something inspirational comes from seeing all these images like this
This is masterpiece overload. So many movies I love and know I will love on this list. I just can't complete them all fast enough. Amazing selection!
This is great! Do you have a list of the films?
You can see them if you turn on subtitles or read the transcript
Will this be a recurring item? Where everybody of the Cinema Cartography team can show their personal list of movies that shaped them?
Beautiful. I already know I'm going to return to this video many times. Thank you, Luiza.
any1 knows the film on the thumbail
Ohhh, this is wonderful!! I cannot wait to lose myself, then find myself while watching this list of movies. Thank you!
Favorite short films?
There's a lot of these on TH-cam and they all seem to fade together at a point. However, this one seems different and much more well done, or I guess there's something more grandiose and satisfying about it.
I will provide the complete film list in order of appearance. Watch the full video!

Good Afternoon. Enjoyable video, good job. It can be noticed your love in Cinema. I have watched a lot of them... but I have pending for watching a lot of them. The election of movies it is something very personal, in this way, I could not choice less of 1000 movies because always I remember some and forget other. I have noticed you mention "The Spirit of Beehive" by Víctor Erice. If you have not watched yet, I would recommend you "El Sur" by the same director too. I think is one of the more important movies of the Spanish cinematography. Best regards and good luck.
Never loved that quote from Peter Greenaway, “Cinema is dead”. I became a full fledged cinephile 3 years ago and hate the idea of cinema being past its glory days, or dying, or that it isn’t true art.
From what I understand he sees the need for some sort of progress in the art form, but I’m unfamiliar with his work and what exactly he means by that.
Reminds me of Tarkovsky’s (my favourite) critique of the use of colour in film and his desire to reach a pure sort of expression with cinema, as well as his distaste for some of the most revered works out there. I’m all for avant-Garde, experimental stuff, but I don’t see why we should discredit narrative-focused cinema and the incredible films still coming out to this day.
Wonder what other people’s perspectives are on this
I never bought into the whole "cinema is dead" rhetoric. As long as there's human creativity and ingenuity it'll always have a place in the world. It would just go through various metamorphosis and ups/downs but it would never go away. It's too powerful of a medium to truly disappear.
I assume what they meant is that theres no more boundary to be explore within the realm of cinematic expression, in the same way where they proclaimed "art is dead", where every painting in the modern era can be traced back to certain movement in the past. The only thing to be explore is the idea and the execution ideas, otherwise the development of cinematic expression is pretty much stagnant
@@jefferytan7536 yeah that’s how I understand it. I guess I just find it a bit concerning that all that can be done with cinema has generally already been done. But I’d like to think that even new movies today can be enjoyed for what they are, even if the majority of them are rehashes of old ideas and techniques. I think there’s still value in creating “great” films
is there a list of names for these somewhere? I really want to watch them!
Turn on the subtitles
@@josef.ramoss.8457 ah yes my bad. didn't read the pinned comment. thank you!
This was just beautiful! Thank you for this!
Took my breath away.
well... if there are 200 movies that can keep changing your life, that is more about you, than the movies themselves; inherently deprecating the value of the perspective presented in this video.
a good several i haven't seen yet, rad, thank you, what a collection!!!!! 🤩❤️🔥
Fire in the Plains, also K. Ichikawa.
i love in being more independent, you guys are humanizing your style, I fuck with it
Magnificent.
Beautiful!!
This is real cinematography
I think if I counted right, I've seen 49 of these. I gotta step my game up lol
Does anyone know the film at 1:59?
How many movies have you ever watched?

This is beautiful! Saw some of my favorites as well as some I definitely need to watch!
Will we also get a list for Lewis in the future?
and what are the names of all these films, I just don’t recognize some frames and I want to watch some of these films
Turn the subtitles on to get the names.
Excel document when?
I appreciate the list. I like being able to see a clip of each movie. What I didn't enjoy so much were the quick cuts timed to the music. 2 out of 3 ain't bad I guess
Angel eggs x2
Thank you for sharing ❤
