    A billion factors really. Teams no longer have a bell-cow back. There are at any time maybe 3-5 guys worth REALLY paying at RB and you'd still be better off paying WRs instead.
    QBs are more athletic and take away touches from top end backs. Designed runs, QBs running for the 1st on 3rd and long, more early down pass attempts, etc.
    RBs rely more on the scheme and guys around them than a top end WR does. The difference between the 4th best and 18th best RB is really not significant enough to justify paying a top 5 RB unless you have a very affordable QB(see: SF).
    Tight ends and pass catching backs seem to be much more of a focus nowadays than 10-15 years ago as well.
    Plus the injury-rate for RBs is through the roof, although I'd suspect that it's not a whole lot different for WRs with the constant soft tissue injuries.

      Agree, rich is delusional when it comes to running back. The RB market is set and never will be 20-25 mill a year. Maybe 5-10 million.

      What about the bellcow backs? The guy who touches the ball 20+ times a game.

    Two words Rich…Isiah Pacheco.
    Also, Brockman needs to relax and stop hating on the Dolphins. I’ll take Waddle over any current WR on the Patriots roster at the moment. Here we are talking about real life football and this joker talking about fantasy. lol

    RBs are the easiest to replace by Rookies that's why. Supply and demand. And secondly they are accepting the lower pay rates.
    Get a young stud run him into the ground and pay them very little.

      Top ten???
      Jefferson, Chase, Hill, Kupp, Lamb, Adams, St. Brown, Brown, DJ Moore, Wilson, Flowers, Olave. There’s a lot of good wrs that are pretty comfortably ahead of Waddle imo.

    if you roll in the 2 rookie contract years with the 3 year extension Waddle is averaging like 20 mil per year til 2028, and also def. a top 12 reciever in the league

    Waddle's contract extension is for 2026-2029. He is currently still on his rookie contract. WRs will be signing for even more money in 2026.

      That part, it's an extension not a new deal he still has a 4th and 5th year to play on, tyreek leaves and then waddle contract hits under 30 When the rest are making close to 40

  • @maverick214
    @maverick214 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Three obvious reasons why they don't get paid like WRs. Over supply, shorter shelf life and RBs aren't as pivotal to modern NFL offenses.

  • @Ishai1
    @Ishai1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As others have commented, there's a supply/demand + value on the field. In the current era of NFL offenses, a WR who can get open, blow by the defense, catch a ball on top of defenders, and score a TD is more valuable. The days of RBs getting the bulk of the workload, or breaking long runs every game, are over. There are only a handful that still do that and even then some teams will look at the WRs on that play who were blocking down the field and think that was more important for that play to succeed.
    The real question is what happens when the supply increases because we're seeing more and more WRs coming straight out of college and putting up big numbers. It looks like the college WR factory line is great (unlike the QB factory line, that creates a product that doesn't always fit). If it gets easier for teams to draft a WR who could be that superstar in a year, the value of the position will have to go down (maybe contract will stay around the same but as percentage of cap, would be lower).
    Just think about how many great WRs are coming out every year and how many are doing well in the NFL. Not that many busts. Eventually it will be like RBs, easy to replace most of them, a handful of special ones that are worth top dollar.

  • @henrywallacesghost5883

    The last team to win a super bowl that I can recall that had a true number 1 rb was the Seahawks with Lynch. Chiefs,Eagles,Bucs,Patriots,Rams,Broncos with Manning, and even those Giants teams that won 2 super bowls won them right after Tiki retired.

  • @KevinDorsi
    @KevinDorsi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Miami has a 3 geaded monster at RB while last season, Waddle and Hill combined for 275 targets while the next 13 other players combined only had 267. Down the stretch Mostert and Achane were taking turns not being available with injuries. The risk vs. Reward at the respective positions is probably the why, along with the individual gap in production when they miss time. Losing Hill or Waddle has way more impact than losing Mostert or Achane which suggests they are more valuable.

  • @stolve8847
    @stolve8847 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I get Rich's point, and not to be pedantic, but the Dolphins do run lot pony personnel (two RBs on the field) so there's that I guess.

  • @Seeker794
    @Seeker794 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The RB position leans heavy on the quality of the offensive line, the WR leans heavy on the QB. You should already be paying the QB and to maximize the QB you need to maximize the WR. It doesn't make too much sense to pay the QB to hand the ball off. After the line, QB and then the pass catchers, there's just not much left for the RB position.

    I can’t see a team in this day and age being a Super Bowl calibre team on the basis of a dominant RB AND the rest of the offense being doodoo
    Because it would take those circumstances for the RB to get paid
    Not saying that they are unvaluable but in pass happy league with HOF talent QBs, I just don’t see it

  • @alexgruel9932
    @alexgruel9932 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Because you don't notice when they are gone. When Henry was hurt, the Titans offense didn't change with Donte Foreman in the position (but all but collapsed when they traded Brown), when Taylor was hurt Zach Moss was indistinguishable from him, when Nick CHubb went down Pierre and Ford were basically the same player

  • @keeganmaher8327

    2-3 WRs on the field every play and all of which are typically playing very important roles in passing or run plays. Whereas there will typically be 1 RB on the field every (sometimes 2 but also sometimes 0), thereby creating more jobs for WRs in the NFL than RBs which then creates a larger skill gap between the bad, good, great, and a elite WRs compared to the same for RBs. There is just a bigger supply of good RBs in free agency then WRs because team's don't hold as many RBs because they don't need to.

    This is a weird time for running backs
    If you transplanted the triplets of the Cowboys, everybody knew that Emmit was the most important but in this present NFL, he would get paid the least out of the triplets
    Aikman would get 50, Playmaker around 35, and Emmit about 20-25
    I’m open to disagreements

  • @chaddepew5831
    @chaddepew5831 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Rbs are easily replaced. Rbs are routinely hurt. Rbs are spending far more time taking up the blocks the TEs used to have before they became so important in the passing game thus leading to less plays they can actively participate in as a playmaker. It all adds up

I mean, Cheetah is WR1, but I have no idea why you are screamin his isnt even top 15. Maybe concern yourself with winning more than 6 games this season in NE.

    Running backs don't get paid like other positions because after Le'Veon Bell's holdout, GMs decided to stymie the market with the franchise tag. The tag demands a team pay a free agent the average value of the top 5 players at his position or 120% of his prior deal. After Bell dared to turn down the franchise tag from the Steelers, GMs were willing to use it more frequently. Since the top of the market was relatively low, they only needed to offer them something near the tag to sign them for affordable deals. And since nobody was willing to blow up the market for a position that they believed was easily replaced, nobody has been able to reset the market.
    Consider: The tag is roughly $12 million in 2024. Even if a team paid someone $15 million, the average of the top 5 players would hardly move that amount higher. With every other position, the horse has left the barn and it can't be reined back in. The tag for receivers is nearly $30 million, so tagging a good WR is cost prohibitive. GMs have constrained the RB market and nobody's going to push it up thanks to the tag. Personally, I'd bet that there's a case for collusion, but it would be hard to prove.
