- Here are my top ten tips for how to get offered a Birkin or Kelly bag directly from the Hermès boutique! Unfortunately, getting a "quota bag" (ie a Birkin or Kelly) isn't as easy as going into your local Hermès boutique and asking for one. But if you follow these steps, as part of your "Hermès journey", you will greatly increase your changes of getting your dream Kelly or Birkin bag in no time!
These ten tips cover a wide variety of areas, including how to find the perfect Hermès Sales Associate (or SA) to work with, how to build a relationship with your SA over time, how to build a strong customer profile/purchase history, how much pre-spend is required to be offered a quota bag, and more.

This is so ridiculous. Hermes are geniuses. You have to spend a fortune to spend another fortune. The whole thing is so contrived. And you have to play this game actually catering to the person that's living off of your money and supposed to be working for you. You want a bag but you have to beat around the bush and pretend you don't want what you both know you want. Meanwhile they're taking your money daring you to ask for a bag. Hopefully people wake up from this scheme.
It is definitely a bit outlandish for sure, and not for everyone! But hey, clearly people are willing to spend their money that way 🙃
It almost....almost reminds me of a pyramid scheme. However, this is the beauty of capitalism. People are free to spend their money they way they see fit. And they're also free to be treated badly. That's an individual choice.

Great tips!!!! I’m only 11:17 in, but I’d like to add try to make your shopping a collective family effort! Lol. My family and I (parents and sister) all shop together at Hermes to get offered frequently. You have to use one credit card (& we pay back the account holder) but we go together so we are shopping multiple things, multiple categories at once. It gets your quota a lot higher faster. Then, when you need to branch out on your own- the SA know you already and don’t when to spend much before getting offered. We are offered so frequently that we have to just turn down… so this might help. Like I have to make a purchase for my hubs, my dad comes and helps me pick it out and it goes into his account for credit.

Yes--belts and wallets definitely do count towards purchase history (although the commission % isn't quite as high as that of Home/RTW/fine jewelry). And yes Kelly and Constance to gos are technically wallets, so they count too! Hi Phoebe!! The Kelly pochette is not a quota bag, so it doesn't count towards your "two annual quota bags" that you can purchase from Hermes. But depending on why you're asking, in terms of its availability, it is quite scarce so it really is just like a quota bag (sadly!) PS--love that you go to the same boutique! It's been so empty in terms of bags lately 😔 I'm hoping that next year they start to get some more shipments in 🤞🏽 Hope to run into you too! 💛

Hi Wendy! If you go to Hawaii from time to time, I recommend sticking with that SA 😊 You have a much better chance of getting a bag there with lower spend than you do in in SF. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you 🤞🏽!!

Is there a time limit to create a purchase history, can it be an year?
I started shopping at my local boutique without any expectation of getting any quota bags, just buying things I love and will use for myself. I started with some basic jewelry, scarves, and perfume then slowly moved to ready to wear, all the while without asking for any bags. After splurging on a jacket that cost around AUD10k and a pair of shoes for over AUD3k in one visit (i.e. after 6 months of shopping and spending around AUD25k in total), my SA asked me whether I liked any bags (e.g. mini Lindy, Constance etc) but I asked her if I could get a kelly 25. Even though she told me it could be a long wait of 1 to 2 years, the perfect k25 was offered to me 3 months later i.e. after shopping for 9 months with the SA and spending almost AUD50k in total (not including the bag). I don't see my Hermes shopping experience as a "journey" in any way. I was just enjoying the brand during my shopping months. I think SAs can sense whether one genuinely loves the brand or just buys things to score a bag. I now have a very good relationship with my SA and I am so happy that she tried her best to offer me a quota bag sooner than I expected :)

Hi dear! As long as your store has inventory, you should absolutely be able to get one 😊 (Even with no purchase history!) The only exception would be if you want a very specific color/fabric combo, then you may have to wait a bit). Good luck 💜!

She offered me a herbag when my pre spend was around 8-9k
Then recently I requested her fr a mini evelyne which also she agreed to offer . But i had told her that i really like the kelly. To that she smiled and said i cannot promise but surely some day!
So should i now keep buying or stop for a while and just keep the relationship going and puttinf my kelly request. Im worried if she feels that now im only after kelly. But what i feel is that i spent alot on the items that i really liked and it doesn’t include homeware yet.
Quick question, I have recently started my journey. In my local boutique non quota handbags are also not readily available either so they get a wish list for it too. Do you feel manager approvals are needed for rare color Picotin or rodeo charms too ?
Hey there! That’s a really good question. I think for rare color/leather bag combos, probably yes, but probably not rodeos. I’m thinking that’s because SAs don’t make commission on bags, so bags are used as almost a “reward” for customers that 1- spend enough so their SA has made good commission, and 2- spend enough to help the store manager meet their store sales goals. Hermes commission structures vary globally, but in the US I do believe SAs receive commissions from selling non-quota bags, but I've heard that the % commission paid on non-quota bags is much lower than the commission paid on other categories of items like RTW & fine jewelry. Your first appointment is so exciting 😊😊 If they ask you, there is absolutely no harm at all in mentioning the bags that you'd love (that's what I did and it makes for a really nice, organic conversation). Do SA get commission on the kelly breifcase? I want this and thought it might be a good incentive to sell a normal kelly i see they are easy avalable and by no means a quota bag or hard to find?? thoughts?

Hey there! So I actually haven't gotten a quota bag yet! But that's because I haven't spent anywhere close to 1:1 ratio yet (not even 0.5:1 lol!), and my boutique requires a fair bit more than 1:1 spend. But truthfully, I'm not in a hurry to get one, so just buying things from Hermes as I want them, and eventually it will be enough to get a bag 😊 However if you are looking to get one quickly, you could make all of your pre-spend purchases in one or two visits and you'll likely get a bag offered shortly thereafter 😎 How long have you been trying to get one? / How's it going??

@Reshma S No your spend doesn't reset! As long as it's with the same SA, you're all good with it continuing to count towards your quota bag, because they're continuing to make their commission regardless of the time period 😊 And even if you buy with multiple SAs/locations, Hermes keeps a running log of your purchases, so the Store Manager will still be able to see what you bought, regardless of store or SA.
@@LilyShops that’s good to know. I was lucky to be offered a birkin 30 right after I made my first purchase , an oran sandals. Since then I’ve made small shoe and accessories purchases and crocodile kelly cut that I didn’t know was a quota bag but apparently it is because it’s exotic. Both quota bags happened between oct and December last year and now I’m aiming for a Kelly.

Honestly I think this is the perfect time to send her a short text and tell her it was great meeting her yesterday, thank her for her help getting that pair of sandals, and then ask if she’s able to check and see if they have the other pair of shoes available in your size? But I suggest sending it tomorrow, as most Hermes stores are closed on Sundays, so that way she won’t miss it when catching up on other texts/emails she received while she was out. Its a matter of luck.. I know a few people that has Purchased Hermes bags ( Birkin or Kelly) without purchase history or very little. Paris is the best place, specially if you are open to options.

Why’s no one hating on Hermes’ for doing this?
Tip #1 for you ladies. Walk in, ask to see a sales associate, get their number, ask to get lunch, slide them $400 and say I am interested in a Birkin if we can get one soon.

I clicked on these videos out of curiosity. I am not interested in one of these bags, I am a huge fan of Hermes beauty products and silk scarfs If they offered me a bag I would not accept because I think they are ugly looking granny bags.

@@sunny1n I agree 100%! You have a much better chance getting one there, plus all of the memories you'll have from your visits 💛💛 (Also for what it's worth, I've seen on the purse forum that spend in our boutique is now creeping up towards 2:1 or 3:1 for many people... 😭 so sad!)
@@LilyShops exactly! And it’s not even guaranteed you will get a bag. And honestly, I don’t see much RTW that I like online at least, only a few pieces. Looked also for the earrings. Omg, who designed these? So ugly, I like some of their shoes and scarfs and I got a few, but the rest 🤨 … no wonder they push to buy their other stuff. If not for their two bags, people would not care much about this brand. I rather buy Chanel RTW then Hermes.
