My son just bought 15 acres in a prime location. We are working on it now. Great video, thanks!!!

I have 20 acers I live on. Mulies are coming through all the time. A huge doe just ate the lower leaves off of my wifes new asian pear tree. This last winter we had s herd of about 15 hanging out on the back end all winter long. I didn't think I could do food plots to get more bucks here but this video has convinced me otherwise. The back 5 acers are now becoming a deer food/water/bedding area..

Hunted 5 acres the last 3 years. Year 1 I put a kiddie pool in. Last season a split G2 came in one too many times. We killed mature bucks all 3 years. Every deer within at least a mile came through everyday once they found the water. The property was sold last year. It was a great 3 years while we had it!!

I just did the kiddie pool on my 5 acres. The deer found it the same evening. There wasn’t a spot they didn’t walk.

One more thing that’s important on small parcels is lack of hunting pressure and waiting to hunt them at the right times.

Definitely plays a roll. Oddly enough this 5 acre chunk still has a couple bow hunters around it and some definite gun pressure.

So another point would be is hoping you have kind neighbors because there's a good chance on 5 acres that when you arrow a deer that even if its an ethical shot that it will leave the property.

The average buck isn't going no more than 100yrds with good vital hits. If deer are going off 5 acres after the shoot then it's the equipment you're using or bad shots one. All the deer Ive harvest has went less than 100yrds double lung to heart shots.

@@Unknowngamer-qq6ee, it's 5 acres more than likely you're not hunting dead smack in the middle of it. It's a very likely situation that deer is going to leave the property

Thats why I only rifle hunt my 5 acres.

Stop spear hunting and try using an actual rifle?

Good shot with 308 says otherwise.

I have a fantastic 5 acre property. Has thick cover, their bedding area is just on the opposite edge of it. A large creek runs right through the middle if it and Ive got a 365day food source adjacent to the creek. I have bucks and does galore… my problem is, my neighbors all hunt too and many of them have a “its brown, its down” mentality so large QUALITY bucks are not as common. Cant grow big if you kill em young.

I just got 5 acres connected to hundreds of acres of state land, its heavily wooded but so is everything around me. No idea where any food is but I'm guessing there is infinite bedding around my land, so I was thinking a little food plot and some trails to go with the existing bedding would be the way to go. Idk what do you think in that scenario?

    • @whitetaillandmanagement
      @whitetaillandmanagement  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Hans The Heathen it’s hard to say for sure without seeing it, but if the food is what’s lacking in the area, BRING THEM THE FOOD. Nice thing about creating more bedding, is it creates more natural browse as well. You just have to take the best educated guess for your area. And get a soil test if you do a food plot

Fill in the missing piece. If there are no beans or corn, plant some and you'll attract every deer in the area. Just make sure you don't pressure it too much and keep hunters out or the deer will only use it at night

My friend has a 1000 acre ranch and we legit only use 5 acres either way the blind and the deer feeders are like 100 yards away or an acre

What do you want a pat on the back? Lol You’re just mad somebody on 5 acres can shoot the same deer as you can. 😂

Just be honest and forthright. Let them you will not be a problem, if they say yes give them a grocery store gift card at the end of the season as a token of your appreciation. I know, been there, done that.

I’m seeking advice. I own 10 acres of land in upstate NY Catskill mountains. I live on 1.5 and the rest is woods. There has always been tons of does and back before the imposed antler restrictions, we would take young bucks. Usually the young bucks had uneven spikes or some other freaky combination of uneven antlers. We figured with all those nice does surely at some point a nice big buck would come through. We have oak trees, beech trees etc. Could never figure it out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

All kinds of wildlife pass through our land. Like with many others our land is surrounded by piney wood forests. :)

do you have a video/ playlist on creating/ maintaining a bedding area? the property i have permission on is between 2 properties that are larger and hold more deer and my only chance as of now is hoping for deer to cross through to transition from one to the next. We have a big open spot with minimal cover at the top that used to be a horse pasture. They love crossing through that, and have many bucks at night crossing the downed fence there. 5 scrapes 2 being worked very recently all within 100 yard stretch, but not seeing any day movement. (gun season hasnt been helping either) I got my first buck last year here first light opening day of rifle and was honestly dumb luck! Now luck is parrt of the hunt, but id love to learn how to increase my odds on this property! The property owner gave permission to make a food plot. cool enough as we have access to good fertalizer being a horse pasture, and a creek bordering property. Thanks!
Edit: the one thing i feel the neighboring properties have a huge advantage over this one is cover/ bedding.

5 acres and unless it's rut all I see are doe & fawn. Once in a while little buck. Bedding on outer edges of my woods, and food in woods. Farm fields all around. Don't understand it

If you have any property that’s posted you will have deer/wildlife. They are a lot smarter then people think and will quickly learn there is not a literal cannon shooting at them from a tree on that land
