      Agree, specially Stephens made a lot of mistakes, to be honest I think Emma had one of the easiest 1r possible considering what you said about the honeymoon, and before that the weeding and all the preparations which consume a lot of time. Stephens came unprepared and was very noticeable

      If I understand "honeymoon" correctly, it's getting star-struck and attending things like the Met Ball and all. Stuff like that could have really thrown her off track (and I think did for a while). The takeaway here is that Cinderella has tossed the dress and is back to work on her tennis. I think it will be in interesting sophomore season for her though. As for the Met Ball, I dunno, understand it's a once in a lifetime thing, I'm not into it, but I get it.

    Glad Emma won. She didn't dominate despite the score. It was more like she outlasted Sloane in a battle of who could keep the ball in. Not many winners or errors forced, but solid tennis. Not sure she can out hit Osaka, Sabalenka, Sakkari, or out last Halep, or Svitolina, and Barty can beat her with power, or consistency. Bottom line though is, it's good to see Emma back in the "W" column against a quality opponent.

    • @ReidVV
      @ReidVV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@krhee5122 That's true and is evidence of Emma's potential, but I think anyone would admit that the US Open was an outlier in terms of Emma being on a huge roll and not necessarily a measure of her match to match level of consistent play. For that level of consistent high level tennis, look at some one like Barty, who just dominates week in and week out, tournament after tournament, no matter who she is playing. Literally Barty has all the shots and serves and plays with great tennis intelligence concerning execution and shot selection. Barty is nearly a flawless tennis player. For her to lose, she has to be on a really off day, or her opponent has to be having a career day to beat her. I think the most incredible thing about Ash is, she makes it all look so easy, almost effortless, and she is just never, ever flustered, no matter what happens, she just keeps grinding and just winning. She consistently makes her opponent have to play perfect tennis to beat her.

    Go Emma!!! And yasss to the new racquet!!! A breath of fresh air with a new racquet is always a good thing!!! Don't be afraid of trying new equipment. Also, different strings and tension. Stephen Edberg strings at 57 on the mains, 55 on the cross, for example. Different string material, natural gut and polyester. String thickness. 17 gauge. Love the variety!!! Shot selection is key. To have an effective strategy is execution and shot selection is part of the execution. Keep going for shots because that adds to the courage to go for it. Which is essential on later rounds. Keep going for shots with spin. The spin is the key to higher margins of safety to land inside the lines and spin prevents the opponent from an easy put away. Keep moving forward; especially, after a great shot. End the point at every opportunity; especially, at the net. Aggression, and controlled aggression. Play the mid-court whenever possible. Change in direction to keep the opponent always moving. All your fans are always very proud of you, Emma. Go, go, go, Emma!!!!!!!!

    Love that dropshot that these players have on all surfaces. Raducanu has a VERY cool look to her and her game. Just a very appealing young player. Course. I remember thinking something similar about Stephens, when she was new on the tour. Romanian dad and Chinese mom. She loses 2 rounds later, but if you've been keeping an eye on Swiatek, who is young and won big in France, last year, she's dropped off a bit, because she had to get used to people amping up to play her. Plus. Dealing with the change in her life after winning a grand slam. A lot of expectations, these days, and it may be unreasonable to think these young athletes can be as single minded and focused on career success as they were a few decades ago. Personally. Players, like Osaka, going through very powerful stuff, emotionally in their lives, doesn't seem like a distraction to people like me. It seems more 'real.'

    Ok....In this match it was a tale of two individuals at different points in their careers. For Sloane to win, she needed to play much more aggressive and put Emma on the run to open up the court. For Emma to win, she needed to be able to outhit Sloane from different areas of the court. Emma won because she likes to dictate play and she hates playing offensive while Sloane is the opposite. Emma knows this and picks on Sloane's backhand and mediocre serve throughout the match. Sloane likes pace but she likes it when a player is hitting hard but can't move as well, see her matches against Keys, Venus vs Serena and you get my point. Emma was smart enough to drill it more to the center and this forced Sloane to create her own angles. Sloane's footwork, forehand are incredible. But every other part of her game is questionable especially mentally! It makes me wonder if we are seeing the decline of Sloane. That being said: I don't think that Emma will win this tournament. Something about her that screams "overhype." But, she's much better than say, Gauff.

    Emma will be one of the greatest. She is one of the best among the young génération with Alcaraz. She has incredible power shorts for her age with a great accuracy And concistency.
    She is Very smart Also. Did anyone spotted how she noticed that stephens prefered and strong shot is her two handed backhand ? She forced her to go with that move during the whole game and led her opponent to an exhaustion point. And it worked for the 1st set. Stephen made a lot of errors and her two handed backhand became weak.
    2nd set. Stephens acknowledge that her systematic two handed backhand caused the loss of the 1st set and décide to go with her forehand more often. Emma could have played more with her forehand to change the direction of the ball more often and place the ball very far away from the americain player. Stephens wins thé 2nd set of course.
    Its a Very dangerous strategy to attack your opponent on her strong shots. Mainly if you cant win the set when your are not serving.
    If she was playing against a more expérienced player like Osaka she could not win the 3rd set with the same strategy.
