Great video. Equator would be one of my top international destination list, especially for birding. Enjoyed watching your video. I'm gonna look more of your videos. Thanks 😊
I totally agree! I'm usually not a fan but Ecuador's National Parks are all free and it helps having a guide who knows what kind of things you like to do!
Buenas noches, senorita. Have watched all you'r videos many times while planning my move to Ecuador. Live in Cuenca now and going to Cajas this weekend. Thought your dinner looked best . But will order some shrimp also. Thanks for all the videos !
I am so happy to see that Ecuador embraced nature and their culture. Those things definitely have long lasting value and I will be visiting soon. Great video 😊
Hi Ayngelina, my husband and I have been enjoying watching your videos about Cuenca for our upcoming trip next week. We will be contacting Andres for our Cajas adventure 😉
An other great video from Anygelina,...I have to say ,I love the fact that you are very inform about the places you go, wich make more interesting to watch your videos ,..thanks again for share..👍👍
Saludos! Y me alegra que te guste mi país!
The country does struggle with conservation especially when foreign mining companies want to "invest" but I think 22% of the land in Ecuador is protected.
@@JimmyDew_ you're right. You should have a look at my Yunguilla video where I talk about how dairy farmers are trying to avoid selling their farms to international mining companies 💜
Hey, that was a great video. This one is a perfect example of the sweet spot you've achieved between food and travel. Just keep on rocking! BTW, one of my best friends is from Ecuador and she graduated at ecotourism, so yes, I can assure they take nature protection seriously.
The laguna is in the lower part of the park before you get to the entrance. Not a lot of people go there but Andres likes to take people there first on a tour because it’s small enough to do quickly and it’s so different from the rest of the park.
Finally a gal that loves her food. I like that and will continue watching until I get there. Thank You for expounding on the food though because that is what most interests me! Except for how you pronounce trout, but you are Canadian do I understand the accent as I hat lived nearby my whole life. Lol ...
It's not 3100 feet. It's actually 3100 meters which is over 10,000 feet. When I last hiked in the Cajas, we found a marker placed by ETAPA (the Cuenca water company) that indicated that we were over 13,000 feet.
question - One of the last things you said I'm curious about: "wear pants, not shorts." Is that because of the temperature or because of plants encroaching on the trail that can scratch you? Thanks for the very informative video!
Yes plants can scratch you but also it's cold because of the altitude and the weather is unpredictable. And the park rangers can reject entrance if you're not dressed properly. And make sure you have a good rain coat, you'll use it almost every day.
Isn't it gorgeous! Andres stopped the car on our way there to get a better look. It's called Cuanto. The scientific name is floripongdio. Interestingly the flower can be used to make scopalamine which is toxic and has been used in the past to render people defenseless.
I don't see that happening any time soon. They are lifting some occupancy restrictions as they have reached over 85% vaccination but overall the local population is supporting the continued use of masks with new variants. The only people I've really seen not comply are expats and tourists, which is unfortunate as they should be respecting local mandates.
@@ayngelina I hope you are eating chugchucaras! We rented a car at the Quito airport in October and drove to Cuenca. We didn't have time to eat chugchucaras in Latacunga. :-(
What a lovely area. I have another video of the domes that just opened up down the road. I shot it right after that terrible landslide that sent bolders rolling down the hill that killed people. I show it on the way there.
Maybe in it’s original recipe when the Aimaras and the Incas used to make it, but even then sometimes they would put charqui in to the soup. I have never ever had vegan locro de papas in any place in Ecuador and trust me I have had a whole lot of it, I’m from Cuenca you see. It’s just a soup though, there’s more important matters like I would love to have your friend’s details because he seems to be very knowledgeable. My friend and I are visiting Cuenca in a couple of weeks and would like to see if it’s possible to have him as our Cajas guide. 😉

The best of your videos. What an amazing experience.
Thank you so much. Have you been to Cajas?
That national park looks gorgeous!!!! I find most national parks to be boring frankly. This park looks relaxing.
I totally agree! I'm usually not a fan but Ecuador's National Parks are all free and it helps having a guide who knows what kind of things you like to do!
Cajas national park is amazing!! Thank you for sharing this , just beautiful 💓
It really is! And I love that they protect it as a water source as drinking from the tap is a luxury in many countries.
Super interesting and informative video Ayngelina - thanks so much. And that park - absolutely stunning!
Thank you 💜

I love the landscape and how the parks and plants and trees are protected. Canada could learn alot from Ecuador. Thank you so much for this video.

Most definitely

Really looks beautiful. I can tell you really enjoyed it even if it did include hiking a bit more than you like! LOL.
I'm getting hiking shoes over Christmas. Who am I?
Interesting video! Thanks! The paper trees look a lot like the arbutus we have on Vancouver Island.

Hahaha I think I say trout normally 😂 but I think I called it by its Spanish name, trucha, a few times.
I know there's a hiker in you yet Aynge. Another excellent video. Thanks again Aynge

I am SO bad at saying feet when I mean metres, in future videos like in Quito I just put it on the screen because I always say it wrong.

"Your hotdogs and your walks probably cancel each other out" - best line in the video 😅
Hahahaha right!
i wish to visit Cuenca , then Manta and then Quito to catch the airplane home again
Well Cuenca is certainly one of the prettiest cities but I think somewhere along the way you'll want to see more of Ecuador
Poor Andres when you take him off his plate . Althought i do the same to my husband!!!

When would they give up the masks there in Cuenca ?

Locro de papas is not a vegan soup! It has milk and quesillo.
You can find locro with those ingredients and others but the base recipe is vegan.
