    The worst thing is when people say it's not real. They call you lazy or an attention seeker. You just need to try harder, you are smart enough... Ive been feeling like im stuck in my life right now and im only 27! I havent officially been diagnosed with adhd, but i just feel it explains all my struggled Ive had in my life. And I feel like im in a crowded street screaming for help and everyone just keeps walking.

      I was diagnosed at 50 and feel like my life passed me by because no one ever figured out I had ADHD. I also hate when people say it’s not real, especially now that I can put a name on it. I hate when I try to explain an obstacle I’m trying to overcome and the other person (usually my mom 🙄) says that “everyone goes through that.” What I want to say to you is if you feel you have ADHD or some type of mental condition, please try to get diagnosed sooner rather than later. Also, realize you’re not alone and I believe you 😊.

      @@jillybean651 This almost makes me laugh. When I'd had the assessment done by a family member who'd known me from childhood, I remember hearing them talk to themselves while answering the questions:
      "Well everybody does that."
      "Oh, compared to her brother, she has no problems with this."
      "This sounds like me and I'm normal."
      My results were all skewed because their view was from that of an ADHD couple with ADHD kids who'd all been told they're normal their whole life. I had to get a second opinion for my diagnosis. 🤷🏻‍♀️

      I can totally relate and I’m sorry you’ve been feeling so stuck. Stuck is a good word because that is absolutely how I would explain not understanding myself or others not understanding why I can’t do something. Know that you are worthy of the self love that everyone else is entitled to ❤️

      @@jillybean651 Hi! Thank you for sharing your struggles! Im 30 and recently diagnosed. My mom reacted exactly the same way, and it was very triggering for me, made the self doubt swirl through me. Sometimes parents don't want to acknowledge that their children aren't perfect, or that they have a problem that the parent missed, or a million other reasons. Its often the ones that really love us that are in the most denial.

    My problem is that I’m driven by fear to get the simples things done. Fear of being scolded or getting into an argument. And that is the root of all my anxiety.
    The part of feeling INADEQUATE is a HUGE one, because I’m constantly blaming myself for struggling to get basic things done, and I end up feeling drained, unable to do things that I enjoy.
    I also keep feeling stuck in my place.

    • @bhoopalani7256
      @bhoopalani7256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @Hmy8799
      @Hmy8799 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I relate to this soso much-I don’t know if it’s a fear of being scolded or what it is, as it’s subconscious-because I become quickly “paralyzed” (or stuck in place) as I become overwhelmed with anxiety. Then end up having not gotten the simplest of tasks done! Have been working on it though and slowly seeing a bit of progress. I think it’s because I decided to stop putting pressure on myself (which is hard to kick, but for my situation necessary)-and only allowed myself to “try” and get veeery small “tasks” done, sometimes they could hardly be considered tasks haha, but I’ve seen slow improvements! Def wouldn’t be noticeable to anyone other than me though, haha.

    The talk is a reflection of how I live my life today. I am not yet diagnosed with ADHD for the reason of financial status. I’ve been browsing sites about this, from the symptoms down to the treatment processes. It feels so sad when others mocked you and you started to doubt yourself for the things that had happened. Your friends seem not enjoying your presence coz you radiate something that makes them aloof of you. At 23, currently employed, my boss notices me working confused, cannot focus on what he says, easily gets distracted when there’s something just pop up, doing mails with errors, getting overwhelm on unexpected tasks and writing down notes in an disorganized way. That’s why I always ended up pitying myself. *Sighs* We all get through this. 😞❤️

I am not an expert by any means but there are definitely similarities between the two, particularly that both ASD and ADHD affect people to varying degrees. I liked this talk but I wonder how practical his advice is for people with ADHD. After all, ADHD is a disorder of executive functioning. A non ADHD brain can take a complex task like “follow your passion” or “exercise” and break it into actionable parts. An ADHD brain has a hard time doing that without medication and therapy.
    This might be more discouraging than encouraging to some. And not really practical to many. I’ve found that if you’re going to give advice to someone with adhd. It’s best to start with actionable goals that they can track progress with. Anything that brings the consequences/rewards of the action right in front of them. Things like “meditate for 3 minutes before bed. Take a 10 minute walk 3 times a week and track your steps. Enroll in certification course. Write a resume. Etc.

A systematic review by Xiang Nu in 2017 looking at 30 studies confirmed the validity of this statement. The American college of sports medicine has found numerous studies that have shown weight lifting exercises to have similar effects as cardiovascular exercise throughout different systems in the body. I wonder if diagnosed people can use weight lifting as a means to manage ADHD symptoms. Is anyone aware of people diagnosed with ADHD who use weight lifting to manage their symptoms?

      @@Dancestar1981 this is not healthy advice.
      There are diagnosed people with ADHD who do not take meds, but that is a decision they make with their doctor. There are different types of ADHD medication, not all of them are like adderall.
      Finding a reliable and supportive doctor is a good start. Get diagnosis, discuss your needs. Look into possible accomodations. For example, some universities offer longer deadlines if you can provide a diagnosis.
      You don’t need to be scared. Being neurodivergent is also ok.
