    I am reminded of a visit from a priest who came to us from Europe with sermons and information about St. Faustina. Doctors recently described my hearing loss as going from severe to profound. So, I got very little of the sermons, however, I was asked to drive this visiting priest to a mission church where maybe I had a better chance to hear. I thought i hit the jackpot. In preparing my car for the trip, the priest loaded all his paper work, hand outs, etc. in the front seat. I lost the opportunity to visit with him on the trip, as he jumped into the back seat. He explained that where he came from the bishop always rode in the back, and now it was his turn.. Because of my hearing loss and his accent I could not hear his message at the mission church either. What else is new? I think things are the same all over, and Pope Francis is preaching right on key.

    This was a powerful message, Bishop Barron. I would love to attend a retreat, though I attended your Woman at the Well sermon at my parish (St. Louis de Montfort). I especially appreciated your defense of Pope Francis' emphasis on mercy, predicated on the field hospital image. However, I wasn't thrilled by your implicit slight against Climate Change. I agree that it's an oversimplification of Laudato Si to focus on Climate Change, but his teaching on this grave issue isn't tired or unimportant. It's a serious issue that will affect people at the periphery-- and along the coasts. Thank you for this great video! God bless!

    I can't help but think that Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, on a donkey, must have brought a smile and a laugh to the people who witnessed it. I picture some of his disciples wanting them all to arrive on glorious war horses, and Jesus subverting this pretense of earthly conquest.

    As a fellow Catholic, I admire you greatly bishop, that being said I'm very concerned of the pedophilia that seems to be occurring commonly in the priesthood. This seriously needs to be addressed and stopped. It's having me worried about my own faith in my own religious group. I think practicing celibacy is contributing to some serious perversions and shouldn't be practiced anymore. Hiding this in the dark is not the Christian/Catholic way. It's not what Jesus would want and it's not what God would want. I might not be his judge but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion. *please address this, it is too important a matter!*

    • @markcobuzzi826
      @markcobuzzi826 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I understand, the main reason acts of pedophilia was so heinously rampant in the priesthood, especially back then, was because pedophiles knew that priests would have many opportunities to be around children and also that some of the corrupt Church officials were willing to sweep it under the rug and help the perpetrators get away with it. So far, that sounds like the problem that needs to be tackled head-on and fully fixed.
      The root cause has nothing to do with celibacy, from what I heard. Over the years in fact, I have skimmed through statistics that suggest most child sex-offenders are married people. If the person is already messed up in the head, then he will have that inclination with or without a spouse.
      Personally, the main reason I highly doubt claims that celibacy is the cause of these behaviors is that I myself am living the equivalent of a celibate life, since I am unmarried. If it was true that celibacy is what mainly turns people into child sex-offenders, then one would think I had stopped desiring intimacy with an adult woman long ago and my sexual orientation will soon spontaneously turn towards prepubescent boys.

    • @dansgorillaz
      @dansgorillaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Cobuzzi that is just an anecdote, my basis is off studies that show when you sexually repress some people it can turn into sexual perversions. I think it would be pretty easy to draw a conclusion that celibacy can have an adverse affect. I'm only saying this because I care. It is clearly a recurring theme is the Catholic Church.

    • @markcobuzzi826
      @markcobuzzi826 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bluewren Reilly
      When I said "heinously rampant," I was A.) Referring to past periods before a lot of these scandals were being exposed and dealt with; and B.) Intending to say that the fact these crimes are even being committed by individual priests at all, the people who are entrusted to be our role models and guides to God, is still appalling to me (even supposing the quantity of cases may now be relatively low)

    • @markcobuzzi826
      @markcobuzzi826 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Red XIII
      I do care greatly as well and I admire how seriously you are taking this issue. I too believe that the Church is doing an overall unsatisfactory job at erecting sexual intimacy/pleasure into a positive light and then "putting their money where their mouths are," which is making it easier for many problems in our culture to get worse.
      But in the case of these particular abuses, the blame for them cannot be mainly pinned just on something like priestly celibacy. I am just going to give two more sets of my thoughts, if you do not mind and still want to read on. It is a lot and I am no psychologist, so don't think you have it read any of it, and feel free to take it with a grain of salt:
      This is more based on my own experience with people of different sexual orientations and specific stories I read, rather than quantifiable statistics, but I know that sexual orientations are rarely malleable. For me personally at least, the very idea that a normal man who desires adult women might suddenly turn into a pedophile that desires pre-pubescent boys, just by him choosing not to have sex (and assuming nothing else is wrong with him), makes about as much sense as telling a gay/lesbian person that if he/she abstains from homosexual sex, then his orientation will turn straight, due to his lack of any other sexual partners available besides the opposite gender. With all the personal testimonies I read or listened to, whomever a person sexually desires (whether it be men vs. women or pubescent vs. prepubescent) are often determined by physiological factors set in stone, which cannot just be magically changed on a whim.
      Also, last time I checked, most people that become Catholic priests choose this occupation willingly and can even technically leave the Church if they are not cut out for it at all. It would be a different matter, if we are talking about scenarios similar to that of Claude Frollo from Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," where the character had no choice in the matter and other factors were at play.
      Such factors included Claude Frollo being groomed from birth for the priesthood without his input, being heartbroken and traumatized from losing most of his family to the plague, not being shown how sexual/platonic relationships can both be expressions of love, growing up in complete isolation from women (so he does not even learn how to love them platonically), being a pharisaical legalist, and erroneously believing that the Romani/Gypsies are satanists and criminals, before finally becoming infatuated with Esmeralda. Even so, he still bears some culpability for acting on selfish jealousy, when Esmeralda does not desire him back, and for deliberately embracing the heretical notion that he had no free will, which he then uses as an excuse to say that God made him too weak to say no to Esmeralda's "spell" and that it is entirely the work of Satan's "witch".
      Most Catholic priests I know are more like you and I, who do not have backstories anything like that, which actually could mess somebody up and make it easier for him to not know any better. Normally, a man enters the priesthood willingly, so if devoting their whole lives to a vocation of the holy orders does not work well with them, they can choose to simply not become a priest and marry like anyone else. If a normal priest were to have problems that reveal themselves down the road (and which celibacy also does not help), then they still can choose not to resist acting on these inclinations and, at the very least, seek help. If they choose to do neither when it is within their power and knowledge, then it is their own fault, not the fault of the celibacy rule.

    Poverty is good, good preaching is must but francis misses most important point courage! Courage of Bishops, courage of Pope to face current challenges of modernity and its victims ( and I am not talking about fake substitutes like migrants or environment ) but most numerous and serious = children brought by unloving parents into this world only to be aborted or emotionally wounded by selfish single mother or her transient boyfriend or later being molested by teacher and Priests(thankfully in the in the past)

    Jesus (Christian conception) is never a friend of a non-Jew. He helps non-Jews (e.g., Mark 7:27 and on) but he is only the friend of the Jews (e.g., Peter, Paul).
    How can non-Jews be friends with Jesus if Jesus never showed any interest in being friends with non-Jews. Jesus might save you (since you are the house pets of the children) but that does not make him your friend dear non-Jews.
    You are second to the Jews in the eyes of Jesus so please never forget your place in the kingdom of god.

    I don't like Pope Francis. His behaviour , speeches, statements are annoying. After Vatican II, everything is going downward , churches are not like churches but like an entertaining hall or people's own living room - chatting, socializing, the Sacramental rituals are simplified or make-up rituals, the Tabunacle is placed aside but the chair of the priest is placed in the centre like he is God instead, priests saying Mass without zeal like doing a routine job. Priests, please don't always blame the lay Catholic , who are sheep without shepherd , please be virtuous and act as what GOD called you for!!!
