- We took an Amtrak Sleeper Train overnight to go from NYC to Chicago, we slept in a roomette, and honestly, we had the best time ever. This was our first time ever on a sleeper train, and the entire trip was an incredible experience.
This is the Lake Shore Limited, which is a very famous Amtrak train, we've heard from many friends that this route is incredible, and we were extremely excited to try it. Join us on our 24-hour trip from the city that never sleeps to the windy city =)

This is actually really good. This channel has potential.
Thank you for saying that! It means a lot 🙂
Thank you for sharing your trip.😊😊
Thank you two for sharing your train trip. Yes, our deep dish pizza here in Chicago is nice!!😊😊 I like pizza here and in New York. I have luved in New York some years ago with family that are still living there.😊
We liked the deep-dish pizza we tried in Chicago! We went to Pizzeria Uno, where the deep dish was supposedly invented. Having said this, NY-style pizza is definitely our favorite! 😊
@@JhonandAri That was nice pizza to have and if they had a corn bread crust breading that would be fine. But the another big pizza restaurant here in Chicago is Giordano's Pizza. They have a flour dough base for their deep dish pizza. And it is very very good. Next time you two come back try and go to Giordano's Pizza!!
Thanks for the recommendation! Will definitely love to try another version 😀
You are welcome here from Chicago.
Yes, your trip as I recalled as I've travelling on Amtrak train even before Amtrak became nationwide (formerly individual railroad passengers companies became no longer confused with many transfers) for over 55 years. I hopped once or twice a year acrossing any part of USA as I love it and no matter if the train is delays or on time because train travellings are blasting with wonderful socially different people from all over the places and a beauty by looking views passing different areas too. And I'm using mostly sleeper car that is including no extra cost eating in dining car is the best! And their real foods are great! Able to walk entire each cars or standing out of train car on platform if stop for 10 or more minutes (don't wonder away from platform then the train will left by catch up on schedule or be on-time a minute or two before). While monitoring the completely refueling in locomotives, done by exchanging suitcases in baggage car, finishing filling up water each car and less passengers hopping in or hopping out will be leaving early as a schedule.
I used took Southern Pacific (SP) Peninsula Commuter trains for years. SP ran between San Francisco and San Jose, now called Caltrain extended to Gilroy (south of San Jose).
For you guys are taking a short trip on any long distance Amtrak to see if you like the train before taking longer trip. Also, check train status (keeping repeating if a train is catch up) for the arrival to save your waiting. Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing your experience and tips with us!
FWIW, you were on an older Viewliner 1 sleeper. The newer Viewliner 2 and all the Superliner sleepers (like the Capitol Limited) have roomettes without toilets.
Nearly all ,men above a certain age have to use the toilet at least once during the night. I very much prefer the convenience of the ensuite toilet in the old Viewliner 1 to the journey down the hall in the middle of the night. I usually book the bedroom instead.
That's a good point regarding having to use the toilet at night... 🧐
Thanks for this tranquil video! Plus you are handsome! 😍
So nice of you ☺️
Well done video and informative as well. I had no idea the ridership at Penn Station was that high.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a great video. I will definitely follow you!
Welcome aboard! 😊
Love your guys videos! 🙌
That’s very kind of you! 😀 Glad you like them
Wow only 194 sub how!!!
Hopefully the community keeps growing and growing! :D
☺️
My man you grabbed that toilet lid from the inside XD
😝 what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
The newer version of the Viewliner single-level sleeper cars do not have the toilet in the roomettes.
Would you happen to know on which routes this newer version operates?
@@JhonandAri Some are on the LSL. Look for the Viewliner II built by CAF as opposed to the Viewliner I built by (I think) Morrison-Knudsen. These are limited to routes that run to or from New York/Boston which need to fit under the NEC wires.
Love it! Thank you so much for the insight 😀
@@erik_griswold The Viewliner II's can be identified by the fact that they sport Phase III paint (red, white, and blue stripes along the window line) and not Phase IVb (thick blue stripe along the window line, two narrow red stripes above the window line).
Unfortunately when booking you don't have a choice as Amtrak treats the Viewer I and II as being identical, in the same manner as Amtrak treats the Superliner I and II. Amtrak never knows in advance when they will pull a car out for maintenance. A sleeper is a sleeper, a coach is a coach... For example I have slept on the "California" Superliner sleeper on three different trains over the past two decades...
Wasn’t it cheeper to fly then take the train?
It would have been yes, however the train ride was actually the main purpose of our trip 😁
Maybe, but sleeping on a train is sleeping one less night at a expensive hotel usually. When sleeping on a train the train is carrying you closer to your destination. That is not the case when sleeping at a hotel...
Huh, that's another good way of analyzing it!
Trains -- even Amtrak -- are civilized. An airplane is not. On Amtrak, there are no security lines or checkpoints. You don't have to empty your pockets and take off your shoes. There is no crowded boarding line. Nobody is nagging you about overhead compartments or tray tables or seatbelts. Nobody is telling you the train is "overbooked".
On a trip like this, you arrive at the station, wait in a comfortable lounge, and walk to your train. The aisles are wide. There's plenty of room for luggage. Your seat (especially in a sleeper) is wide, comfortable, and has tons of legroom.
There are things in life worth paying for.
