In the beginning I loved this idea. Taking the X-COM gameplay and then put yourself on the field sounded like an idea that would put the player in a much more exciting experience. At least from my perspective. But then they even cut out the essential part of not killing your team members? That was the reason I would buy it! The fact that I start to care about them, and see them fight by my side. The feeling I could have when I couldn't save a teammate is gone and so is the chance of me buying it
No wonder this reminds me of bioshock (as well as Destroy All Humans) 2k Marin was making it. I really wish this version of the game would have been released instead.
Yeah it's annoying that 2K took the fanhurt so seriously that they tried to turn it into an action-strategy game that none of the fans were going to play anyway. The original Jordan Thomas-led FPS looked so much better.

I'm kind of glad that they ended up splitting it up and making the XCOM: Enemy Unknown reboot along side The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. But I kind of wish that The Bureau had ended up how this game looks.

I like the setting and premise. I'll definitely get it to see how it fits in to XCOM plot-wise. It looks fun, and I don't think it deserves all of the flak it gets. Realize that this is a prequel, there is probably an explanation for why the aliens do not look the same. While I agree it doesn't look near as fun as XCOM, there is no reason to attack it, it looks fun on it's own right. Plus, now that there is going to be a true sequel, why complain?

Just started XCOM: The Bureau Declassified and my god is it a piece of shit. It's a shame that this game went through some many changes. It probably wouldn't have been the best FPS, but I can tell it would have been a hell of a lot better than a horribly broken third person shooter with hackneyed squad controls.
They did keep the Silacoids (These black things) having that "execution animation" in the TPS version of it though. But where are the aliens? I don't see why you guys were excited about fighting black blobs.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a remake of the original PC game XCOM: Enemy Unknown (here in the USA it was released as XCOM: UFO Defense). This game (just XCOM, no colons etc in the title) is based on the premise of the series (aliens are slowly invading the Earth, you must research the aliens, reverse-engineer their tech, and use it against them in the field). Only difference is it's set in the 50's and isn't turn-based but rather a shooter. XCOM: EU is a great game, this one will be awesome too!!
its just delayed till 2013, there is another xcom being released this year but it is a strategy game so dont get confused when people say that they are making it into a strategy game, because they are still making this one but it just got pushed back alot untill 2012 so i for one am really exited for this game
@13x1x20 Fallout was a step-by-step RTS/RPG. Fallout 3 was a FPS RPG. In X-Com, it is the same thing. The base-building, the squad-building, most of the elements of the original are still in this game, except that now you control a character. There is the tactical approach. In a developer interview, they said they tried to keep it the same as the original X-Coms, but just put you into a FPS point-of-view.

Two things made the original X-Com great: 1) recruiting and developing your own squad and 2)managing your resources. It's kind of sad to see the great part of a game ignored just to make another shooter.
You still can't steal what you already own. The point he's making is that XCOM and XCOM: Enemy Unknown are two games in the same franchise. The point of this game is that hopefully more people will get into the XCOM Franchise for when Enemy Unknown comes out.

This game is just "XCOM." The game you're thinking of, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, is a remake of a classic 1994 PC Game of the same name. XCOM: EU is a turn-based strategy game, whereas XCOM is just a 1st Person Shooter. XCOM got delayed because people wanted a remake of XCOM: EU more than they wanted this version of XCOM.

It gives a lot more info, and is supposed to act as a precursor as to WHY XCom existed when the Sectoids came, as opposed to a top-secret, globe-spanning task force that just appeared out of nowhere over the course of a few months. If it plays as well as some of the later screenshots have made it out, it could actually be pretty good... We'll just have to see. (This coming from someone who screamed foul when he saw this trailer initially ;)
Just because it's a shooter doesn't mean it doesn't have a right to be called XCOM. The XCOM series has alwasy been about researching a growing alien threat and reverse-engineering alien tech to use in the field. Sure the original XCOM and it's modern remake are turn-based strategy but that doesn't mean that this one won't do as well either.
