My first Fuji camera was an ST605 SLR bought in 1977 when my Zenith B was off being repaired! I later moved to digital, firstly with compact cameras before discovering Panasonic's wonderful bridge cameras. Earlier this year I decideded to become more serious again and bought an X-E4 which I describe as a poor man's Leica! I was sold on the retro design. It is just fabulous. Two months later, on the advice of a local photography mentor, I bought the X-T4, which is also fabulous - the two complementing one another. At a recent folk festival I noticed that all official photographers had two cameras and I appreciated this when I found myself with the wrong lens on the X-T4 at certain moments. My pal advised waiting for the X-T5. I watched the launch earlier today and placed my order! The new lens looks pretty good too! So, for me, 2022 has been the Return to Fuji! The camaraderie, enthusiasm and sheer joy of the Fuji community - which you embody Chris - remind my of my motor-biking days! Thank you so much for your wonderful, informative and joyful videos.
Finally an intelligent TH-camr who understands that the X-T5 is for photographers and the X-H2(s) for videographers. Finally one that refuses to compare an airplane for gliding flight with a propeller airplane. Different things, different uses. I do want a photocamera, not a camcorder! Many thanks.
This is a fantastic unit but I don't feel like I got a "worse" deal buying the XT4. The availability of a battery grip is very important to me and as someone who ONLY shoots still images, I actually prefer the flippy screen. I keep it closed 99% of the time to protect it and use the EVF anyways. I'm very excited to see how the improved sensor plays out.
this video made me contemplate what my next fujifilm camera will be, i like photography and videography and i dabble in both, photography mainly. so i went to watch your xh2 vid and that really sold me on a xt5 for my next camera. the last bit about the dials made me remember how much i love my dials, my brain needs them, its just how my brain works im very visual and physically orented so being able to physical move something and see that its set to a certain iso or shutter or other setting really, is why i love my xt3 and why i couldnt go back to using the canons in my school since i felt like it was almost limiting to me, since it i couldnt easily change stuff fast. and have to dig around on menus and being able to make it shutter, or iso priority in seconds by turning a nob or 2 is way more enjoyable then turning a button and having it do it sorta for you. my xt-3 makes photography feel more sorta personal in a way, make me feel like i am taking the photos and im not telling my camera to take the photos. so thats why ill probly go with the xt-5 for my next camera but until that day comes i will be happily enjoying my xt3, and who knows i may upgrade sooner than i think. and now that i think about it. used xt4 prices will go down so... who knows.
Ordered ✅ Although, I’m still concerned about two things - rather low res EVF, although I like it’s larger fov now - small buffer. Literally it wouldn’t cost much to double it. Apparently they want photographers who has the need to buy XH2s. However I would really need that 40mp + the fast shutter / iso manual operation from XTs My point of view are from: daily landscape, often wildlife (wolf, fox, bears, whales, otters, owls…), occasionally street, sometimes astro (nightscape, deepspace, deepscape). Sometimes I can switch scheme so often that not being able to remember all the c1234567 associated settings frustrate me
I am an XT3 owner and I have preordered this fantastic upgrade.......I am a photography still hobbyist and use a EM1miii, Canon RP in addition to my beloved XT3. I purchased my XT 3 brand new from B&H when they went on sale upon the arrival of the then brand new XT4. It had no IBIS on board and that was significant when bird shooting as compared to EM1Miii... but....... FUJI got in its licks when I shot landscape..... the bigger sensor proved to gather better detail when called upon. I love retro, to see ISO,SS,APETURE right in front of me rather then dancing with electronics is heaven .... I ove the LCD also. I almost traded my XT3 for a XT4 about year ago bt then realized that I would have to surrender the flip screen, which I find bothersome on both the OLY and the RP... So yes , immediately after the announcement by FUJI JAPAN I placed a call to B&H and signed on the dotted line.... It was 10:10 AM and i was the third ordered hat my salesman had taken......This is a fujiman's dream... and I cant wait to get it out in the wild and put it through its paces. Thank you so very much or all the EXPERT INFORMATION that you provide us through this Site. WISHING YOU THE VERY BEST... RustyIronMike
XH2 was 40meg. My Apologies. Crazy Fuji making XH2-S only 26 as per older x-T3+ models. x Edit as I watch due to my memory constraints : Weight = less - that's not battery, that's metal quality? As long as I don't have PASM, then yeah, I will still love Fujifilm. Glad you gained the respect that you deserve from Fuji. Keep making us happy with your videos! x
The X-T3 has been a favorite camera for me. I skipped the X-T4. This morning I pre-ordered an X-T5. I'll use it mainly for photography, so I'm glad for 40MP, the joystick that's actually a stick, and the 3-way tilt screen. I would have preferred a CFexpress Type A card slot, but overall the camera is a great package. I expect Fuji will sell a ton of them. I also ordered the metal hand grip, as I always want more grip and an Arca-Swiss base. Why they didn't ship Chris a copy of the camera for review is beyond puzzling.
As someone who shoots Sony APSC, this camera is just everything I’ve been hoping Sony would do for years and more. I’m definitely going to switch if I can make it happen financially.
I have an XT-2 and this camera is gonna my first upgrade since I began photography! I’m so excited! I’ve been using it for landscape photography! Unfortunately I can’t buy it right away since it’s so close to the holidays but I’m very very excited for the day I can get my hands on one!
I'm still using my old XT2. To be honest I'm a hobbyist and not a pro photographer. The XT5 is something I'm really excited about and has funds become available I will be looking to upgrade to it.
i was just about to buy an xt4 when the xt5 popped up in my suggestions! i stopped in my tracks haha, i’ve been waiting/saving up and this will be my first official camera which i mainly want for photography purposes (film specifically) so the xt5 sounds like the way to go although the flip screen on the xt4 still sounds tempting but i dont think i’ll really need it if im not self filming. im going to be doing such a deep dive into your channel to learn how to set it up and all i can about fujifilm cameras. thank you for being an amazing teacher and making everything easy to understand
Really loved your "popsicle" but can't wait to see your full blown review of the XT-5! Also, the new macro lens has me excited and hope it's as good as marketed by Fuji. Thanks for this video and am always looking forward to them.
14:04 I hope the people understand how profound this is from a customer centric view point. All three cameras are highly crystallized for their intended market. Sure they aren't completely perfect but they're damn near that for Fuji cameras and even hold their own very well against the competition. As customers, regardless of the brand, it's imperative that we similarly crystallize our requirements and logical(not emotional) upper ceiling for potential career/hobby growth along with our budgets so as to make a well informed financial decision in these uncertain times. Honestly, the last 10 years have lead to such amazing gear across the entire photography and filmmaking consumer market,(I've been actively in this market space since 2004) that we have zero excuses anymore to blame the gear.
I think I wasn't too impressed by the X-T5 because of the lack of a headphone jack and the decision to go back to the 3-way tilt screen. Coming from someone who shoots video, this camera does not get me excited. But for photographers, this feels like a great upgrade. P.S: Felt nice when you noticed me during the summit haha 😂
I cannot wait to get my hands on this camera! I have an Xt3 which is my favorite camera I have ever owned, but I would love two bodies and I believe the Xt5 will be very satisfying to own. I look forward to watching any and all of your Xt5 videos you create so I can learn how to best use my newest purchase.
Would not have thought that Fuji would release it this year still! Just got the X-T4 this year. I would not have bought it without the small rig grip probably. Interesting to see that Fuji now "copies" the grip from small rig. Great to see the display from the X-T3 comes back! Even for videographers this one can have advantages, except for filming one-self of course. Best would be a screen like the GH6 has though...best of both worlds. They also seem to make it clear that if you want to record videos, you should buy their new XH's. I think it is rather weird though to get rid of a battery grip option, even with improved battery life. This way the X-T4 can still have more than double the battery life and a better grip vertically. It is quite interesting to see where Fuji is going. Oh and the pixel shift is something I would like soo much to be in the X-T4...
Thanks for the introduction. I have been watching your videos to finally get up to speed on my X-T3, now it looks like I will be adding the X-T5 to my wish list.
how much noise do we have on these 40MP units given the surface area is the same size as the 26MP units? This theoretic potential for high noise, diminished HDR as well as file size/post processing speed is my biggest concern with these new Fuji offerings. I desperately need these issues answered.
Hi. Hope you've had a great weekend! Would you consider doing an XT3 - XT5 comparison when you get your hands on one? I imagine there are a few XT3 owners like me who really didn't like the XT4, but see the XT5 as a potential worthy upgrade. It would be good to see what going to an XT5 will feel like!
I own an X-T4, but I'm not a professional user, nor i use it too much, but, I've always wanted a camera. The only problem I'm seeing with Fuji, is the high price of the lenses. I know, I'm not a professional, I'm not on the market, but I've got to say, you find most of the time, lenses that have a better image quality or a faster AF, that are not from Fuji and cost way less than the Fuji version. I know it's an APS-c sensor, and not a micro ⁴/³, so, bigger and more complex, but still... Nice to see they finally did the difference from the video lineup.
That looks like an awesome camera, I am hoping the X-Pro4 has ibis, when it comes out. By the way the X-T1 came out in 2014 it's the X-Pro1 that came out ten years ago in 2012. Thanks for sharing sharing another greate video.
Chris, I am convinced no professional on earth has done more in-depth technical evaluation with hands on use of the FujiFilm X system than you, and Fuji must know that. So I cannot imagine any reason why they would not send the X-T5 to you to review, except they fear you know too much and may spot flaws they they have not found yet. I see they did send it to another TH-camr, who to my mind is a phenomenal, world-class photographer, who has transitioned through the X-T2 to X-T4, but he does not display your tech savvy of the FujiFilm system. It’s a shame, really.
Great video! Exciting camera and it is nice to see that it continues to appear that Fuji is a company that listens. XT3 owner here that is feeling a bit of GAS lust at the moment. Lots to like about this new model. I might have a bit of a hard time justifying it though. Looking forward to more videos about it from you.
I'm sorry if this is a ridiculous question... what size SD card would you recommend for the X-T5? I would not use the camera for video - only photography.
We will retain the X-T4s. I believe the absence of the battery grip is a mistake, especially for portrait shooting. I do not like the body contortions required to shoot portraits without the battery grip.
If you look at their promo video, it is all about photography, nothing about video, and the final tag line says it all: Photography First. There’s a clear delineation, and I welcome that. I have an X-T3, and the only thing I miss from the X-T4 is the larger battery and IBIS; all the video features, inc flippy screen, I don’t need. And it fits a niche for those who was attracted to the GFX50 for it’s higher resolution, but for which GFX was a bit much overall. Personally there are times where I really wish I had more room to crop in, and now I’m doing more studio work, 40Mp sounds really nice. Basically, I see a case for both; the X-T3 for a daily walk around camera, esp street with the 18-55, or my old 35mm f/1.4, is great still, and I do worry about all the storage I’m using even though I don’t do video. So, I’d like both the X-T3 AND the X-T5, depending on it’s use! If the X-T5 could downsample RAWs on the fly, a bit like pixelbinning for video, that would be something!
Looks like they implemented all the features I wanted, good. This is very good. I couldn't care less about the video specs, as I will never use them anyway. Please Fujifilm, take my money!
Chris, thank you for an excellent overview on the T5. I am looking forward to your educational instructionals for this camera once we all receive it. Anticipation!!!
The XH2s, for my business needs at the moment, is the perfect absolute hybrid. I do not have the business that justifies a cinema orientated camera body with supporting equipment and lenses, as well as a still orientated camera, with supporting equipment and lenses.
Chris, thanks for your rundown on today's announcements. A couple thoughts from my end, I have an XT3 that I use for fun and sometimes as a B, C, or just discreet camera for my video work. For video, I prefer the tilt-up/down screen of the XT3 over the flip-out/selfie screen of the XT4. Nothing against those who need and like the selfie screen, but I think the tilt screen isn't less video-centric (again, for me it's more so). Also, as much as I like my XT3, I have big hands and even with the optional grip extension, it's a bit cramped. For that reason (as well as some more video-centric ones), I'm looking at the XH cameras as my next Fujifilm purchase (unless there's an update to the X100 line). So for me at least, I hope you discuss not just the XT line, but all Fujifilm cameras... Or at least all Fujifilm X cameras. Feel free to leave the ELUXEO Endoscopes to someone else. 😉
Being someone who has and love the X-T3 I can't wait to see your full review but I feel I will be purchasing the X-T5.... Just my thoughts on the hand grip. I feel Fuji has missed a trick by not having the arca swiss plate going up the side of the camera for us photographers that shoot landscapes and other photos where we have the camera in vertical position... Just my opinon :) Once again thank you for the time and effort you put into all your great videos, they are greatly appreciated👍🏻
Good overview Chris, I’m looking forward to your hands on video! I’d love to see more manufacturers adopt a fully articulating rear display mounted on a tilt up/down cradle like the new Sony a7R V. That would keep almost everyone happy, although not sure they’d be able to make it fit on what is a pretty small and shallow body. I can understand the focus on photography given the XH line is aimed more at hybrid users but I use my X-T4 as a hybrid camera and it’s great. I prefer the aesthetics of the XT line over the XH line, I don’t think I’ll need to upgrade for years but I’d be much more tempted if the X-T5 had a flip screen.
Now I'm stuck between XT5 or XH2. XT5 has the focus selector back! And it's not PASM dial on top. But the XH2 does have better grip for my hand..... I can't wait to see a detail review of the XT5. Good JoB!
Definitely on the fence… I loved my X-T3, but for some reason the X-T4 was a bit of a disappointment, maybe because of the size. I’ve also been enjoying an X-Pro2 lately. I really look forward to your review. Definitely want the 30mm macro though!!
Thank you for another great video! This camera is no doubt wonderful. When it comes to the joy of photography the older Fuji cameras are still (and will continue to be) great options.
I have XT-3, about to buy XT-4, but then must wait weather it is worth going straight to XT-5, while still maintaining the memorable XT3 ? Like to hear your comment on this. Thank you Chris.
Thank you - Thank you Chris. You have definitely helped me confirm my decision. Sorry if I jumped line on you. Been doing my research and eager to see more of your training on this stallion of a camera!!
I adore the Z system but I gotta say this is great news for the X mount. The size, the look, the colors, the RESOLUTION on an aps-c sensor Jesus Christ. Makes me wish I could reasonably run both.
I carry around a zfc during the day when I am not on a job but I would definitely carry this instead. It has the size, the conversation starting look, and ergonomics I crave.
Hi Chris, great video as always. I am purchasing the Fujifilm X-T5 next couple days. Would you recommend purchasing backup battery (NP-W23%) from a third party? If so, which brand please?
Hahahaha! I laughed out loud when I saw your XT5 on a popsicle stick! So pro! I tried out the XH2 on the weekend and loved it, but I pre ordered the XT5 this morning. It ticks all the boxes for me, as I'm more stills oriented than video. So, I'm not missing any of the better video options on the XH2 line and love that they went back to the tilty-screen and have the new processor and sensor.
Pity Fujifilm couldn't put in a full-size HDMI port in the X-T5. It is nice to see if someone really wants the fold-out screen of the X-T4, they can go for the X-H2. For this sensor generation, I decided to go for the X-H2 because it came out earlier. Just like buying the X-H1 and skipping the X-T3, it is going to be interesting to play with a larger camera body and see if I can re-adapt to the PASM dial (fortunately I mostly shoot in aperture priority mode). For times when I miss the shutter, ISO, and EC dials, I can use my X-T4 or X-Pro2 (for tilt screen). Joy in using gear.
So how large is an uncompressed raw file on disk anyway? If I'm upgrading from an X-T2, will I need a new computer or will a new external disk suffice?
For me, the best part about being a Fuji owner is that when my camera body starts having issues, there are guaranteed going to be excellent options to choose from to upgrade. I'm using the X-T3 still and only have an issue with one "hot" pixel. I've put in so many hours of video with it, too. Glad I went with the 16-55mm f/2.8 as well as my main lens. It has been my first real camera and I've learned so much and I feel like I am almost exited for it to give me a reason to upgrade. Happy to see you over 100K by the way! Congratulations, pal2tech!
On your compare can you please refere to the chance of an amature getting into the system to get a cheaper XT4, will it worth it? I never saw a compare between lenses 18-120 and 16-80. Both f4.

I'm still loving my XT4!! I feel so lucky to be in the Fuji ecosystem.
Just recently got into Fujifilm with a second user X-T2. I'll be waiting for the X-T7
Just what happens over here, protect the lcd most of the time
this video made me contemplate what my next fujifilm camera will be, i like photography and videography and i dabble in both, photography mainly. so i went to watch your xh2 vid and that really sold me on a xt5 for my next camera. the last bit about the dials made me remember how much i love my dials, my brain needs them, its just how my brain works im very visual and physically orented so being able to physical move something and see that its set to a certain iso or shutter or other setting really, is why i love my xt3 and why i couldnt go back to using the canons in my school since i felt like it was almost limiting to me, since it i couldnt easily change stuff fast. and have to dig around on menus and being able to make it shutter, or iso priority in seconds by turning a nob or 2 is way more enjoyable then turning a button and having it do it sorta for you. my xt-3 makes photography feel more sorta personal in a way, make me feel like i am taking the photos and im not telling my camera to take the photos. so thats why ill probly go with the xt-5 for my next camera but until that day comes i will be happily enjoying my xt3, and who knows i may upgrade sooner than i think. and now that i think about it. used xt4 prices will go down so... who knows.
Ordered ✅ Although, I’m still concerned about two things
- rather low res EVF, although I like it’s larger fov now
- small buffer. Literally it wouldn’t cost much to double it. Apparently they want photographers who has the need to buy XH2s. However I would really need that 40mp + the fast shutter / iso manual operation from XTs
My point of view are from: daily landscape, often wildlife (wolf, fox, bears, whales, otters, owls…), occasionally street, sometimes astro (nightscape, deepspace, deepscape).
Crazy Fuji making XH2-S only 26 as per older x-T3+ models. x
Edit as I watch due to my memory constraints : Weight = less - that's not battery, that's metal quality?
Thanks for the video. I have learned so much from you since I bought my X-T3 a few years ago. I ordered the X-T5 right after watching.
Pre Ordered mine!! I'll keep my XT3 for my daughter to use.
100% getting the X-T5 in silver. I had the X-T4 in black, but had to sell it recently. Can’t wait to order it when I get the chance.
i was just about to buy an xt4 when the xt5 popped up in my suggestions! i stopped in my tracks haha, i’ve been waiting/saving up and this will be my first official camera which i mainly want for photography purposes (film specifically) so the xt5 sounds like the way to go although the flip screen on the xt4 still sounds tempting but i dont think i’ll really need it if im not self filming. im going to be doing such a deep dive into your channel to learn how to set it up and all i can about fujifilm cameras. thank you for being an amazing teacher and making everything easy to understand
Pre-ordered my XT-5. I can't wait for you to do deep dive and tutorial on the best settings. Thanks for the quality content. Cheers!
You are one of the best Fuji reviewers on our little globe.
Really loved your "popsicle" but can't wait to see your full blown review of the XT-5! Also, the new macro
lens has me excited and hope it's as good as marketed by Fuji. Thanks for this video and am always looking forward to them.
Thanks Pal2tech, I don't even shoot Fuji anymore but still follow your channel which is great and will always love Fuji.
I did not updated my xt3 to xt4. Now I am willing to update to xt5. I am still photograph. This is the apparatus that I had been waiting for.
Thinking of upgrading from xt4 to xt5. Doing mostly bird photography. Any thoughts?
Did you end up upgrading?
I was going to switch to the Nikon Z7ii. But I just preordered the X-T5 👍🏼
Can not wait to see your review. I am a travel photographer and would always like to here from this view point.
I'm sorry if this is a ridiculous question... what size SD card would you recommend for the X-T5? I would not use the camera for video - only photography.
Finally! I've been waiting to hear your perspective for X-T5.
Your reviews are so reliable and the best out there. Agree, massive sigh re the HDMI port.
Thanks!
Hey Eric!! Wow, thank you so much for doing this!!
@@pal2tech No problem. Thanks for creating such a great community!
I regret having bought the X-T4 last year. I need liked the screen and the mix of photo and video. When I'm able, I'll definitely upgrade to the xt5
Chris, thank you for an excellent overview on the T5. I am looking forward to your educational instructionals for this camera once we all receive it. Anticipation!!!
Firstly…..the classic intro! ❤❤😊😊
The XH2s, for my business needs at the moment, is the perfect absolute hybrid. I do not have the business that justifies a cinema orientated camera body with supporting equipment and lenses, as well as a still orientated camera, with supporting equipment and lenses.
Getting the gear-iguana version asap😅!!
Hi Chris,
You made an interesting and nice presented video for X-T5. Thanks a lot for letting us know in brief in an nice way!
You can get arca swiss plates for the X-T3, I am sure the Chinese are making one for the X-T5 as we speak!
What a terrific camera Chris! I am sure you will love it and can't wait for the next videos about it.
Okay, if you were kitting this with one of the two lenses, which would you compare it with, the 18-55 or 16-80?
Now I'm stuck between XT5 or XH2.
XT5 has the focus selector back! And it's not PASM dial on top.
But the XH2 does have better grip for my hand..... I can't wait to see a detail review of the XT5. Good JoB!
Definitely on the fence… I loved my X-T3, but for some reason the X-T4 was a bit of a disappointment, maybe because of the size. I’ve also been enjoying an X-Pro2 lately.
I really look forward to your review.
Definitely want the 30mm macro though!!
03:35 i haven't heard this perspective from anyone else. While we're certainly not from Fuji, this helps accept the decision better. Thank you.:)
Thank you for another great video! This camera is no doubt wonderful. When it comes to the joy of photography the older Fuji cameras are still (and will continue to be) great options.
Finally a camera for professional photographers, not for kids doing Tik Tok videos
Thank you for the great breakdown.
Sooooo excited. Plus the fact that Fujifilm is going to do a separate handgrip too.
Pre-ordered Silver using your link. Thanks for the great coverage.
Amazing review, from the best teacher at FUJIFILM, and I'm so excited for all the new episodes of Back to the Roots, with pal2tech and XT5
Good info Chris, thanks. Looking forward to the deep dive.
great review ---well done
I have XT-3, about to buy XT-4, but then must wait weather it is worth going straight to XT-5, while still maintaining the memorable XT3 ? Like to hear your comment on this. Thank you Chris.
Thank you - Thank you Chris. You have definitely helped me confirm my decision. Sorry if I jumped line on you. Been doing my research and eager to see more of your training on this stallion of a camera!!
what will happen to the old lenses would still be usable for the XT5?
I adore the Z system but I gotta say this is great news for the X mount. The size, the look, the colors, the RESOLUTION on an aps-c sensor Jesus Christ. Makes me wish I could reasonably run both.
I carry around a zfc during the day when I am not on a job but I would definitely carry this instead. It has the size, the conversation starting look, and ergonomics I crave.
Hi Chris, great video as always. I am purchasing the Fujifilm X-T5 next couple days. Would you recommend purchasing backup battery (NP-W23%) from a third party? If so, which brand please?
I want that special edition!
Great review/preview. Thank you so much! I already have xt3 and gfx50r, looks like it’s time to upgrade xt3 to new silver xt5
Nice one Chris. It will be on order tomorrow, Fuji listened and delivered.
Of course they come out with this a few months after I get the XT4!
Which are the lenses optimized for the xt5?
Will gladly buy the XT5 when it hits the $999 mark - which will be nev'r! (that is how much I bought the XT3 body only - crazy right?)
Nice!! I can't wait am counting down seconds until it arrives!!!
@@pal2tech Me too! I wish I could have pre ordered through your links, but I'm in Canada, so - sorry! 😩
You’re always on point with all the details. Haha. Awesome and informative. I may just have to add the XT5 to my Fuji fam.
Excellent video. Thanks!
So how large is an uncompressed raw file on disk anyway? If I'm upgrading from an X-T2, will I need a new computer or will a new external disk suffice?
I'll keep using my beloved X-T3 then... the fact that the X-T5 did not get the same EVF as on the X-H2 is very disappointing
Both f4.
😃I have an X-T5 silver with the XF18-55 lens on preorder at Roberts Camera of Indy! Looks like everything I ever wanted.
