*laughing* at Freddy Mercury. That was Mitch Grassi and he's a counter-tenor. Check out their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. Yes, it was a cello. That's Kevin Olusola. He's a beat-boxer, cello player, multi-talented. He's also a tenor, but due to his beatboxing duties we don't hear him sing often. Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado is a mezzo-soprano. She didn't sing much in this video but check out their new release Please Santa Please. Scott Hoying the tall blond, is a baritone, but he covers bass when needed and can go pretty high as well. Last but not least is Matt Sallee. He's their bass, but he has a big range. He is the second bass they have had. The first, Avi, left in 2017. I don't call him a replacement, because he's made his own place in Pentatonix (PTX for short).
Hi there, glad you enjoyed the commentary! Thanks for such a detailed and insightful comment, I'm excited to go down the rabbit hole and get to know these characters better. Thanks for subscribing and Welcome aboard!
Heck of a place to start. This was overwhelming (in a good way) even for long time fans. If you want the total opposite of this, they just dropped another video called pure imagination/Christmas time. Very soft and ethereal. They can do it all.
Daft Punk Medley for GREAT beatboxing...thier 1st Grammy made in thier apartment for $400. Welcome to PTX! Keep them coming the Pentaholics will swarm to see your reactions.
I've seen subs grow exponentially just because of PTX reactions. Superfruit as well...a sub group of Scott and Mitch. Please learn their names. They are worthy of that for certain. They've earned that. Rags to riches story. And you mentioned Freddy Mercury? Check out Bohemian Rhapsody
Hi and thanks for the support! Yes, I have gained a lot of subs thanks to PTX, and this is only the beginning. Will react to Bohemian Rhapsody soon so stay tuned!
Since you mentioned that Mitch, the first soloist is like Freddie Mercury, I would recommend ptx's cover of Bohemian Rapsody as your next listen. Be warned, the megaphone you will see is just a prop. They have done it live many time. Pentaholic from Guyana 🇬🇾, subbed for more PTX.
This is one helluva place to hop in to the PTX rabbit hole! So much to love with these incredible artists. They simply Do. Not. Miss. They don't do anything that isn't entirely incredible. They have been the driving force behind a complete redefinition of a capella music over the past decade or so, are the only a capella group to win a Grammy (and they have 3 of them), and are a veritable supergroup of artists that could all have had solo music careers literally any time they wanted.
It is really incredible that they have won Grammys since it's no a small feat, and they seem to be at the top of chain in terms of what they do since I don't hear of anyone coming close except maybe Berrywam. Welcome to the Channel!
Most of their music is not accompanied by an instrument, but when it is, you will usually see that instrument. The beat/cello boxing guru is Kevin. Enjoy the PTX rabbit hole!
Pentatonix History…..composed by Alan Freeman They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on TH-cam, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his TH-cam videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on TH-cam), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an acappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on TH-cam, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. They also got a star on Hollywood walk of fame. Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only acapella group with a star! Things you need to know because if you get these wrong “Pentaholics” will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.
Oh my God, this is one of the most detailed comments I've ever seen. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, it's quite incredible. I like learning about these guys and I'm excited to start the journey and explore their giant catalog of hit after hit. Many of the cover songs they have are songs I really enjoy so it will be interesting to hear their take. Welcome to the Channel!
Keep reacting to them. They have all kinds of tricks and treats to surprise you. They can sing the phone book. Daft punk Medley is a fan favorite if you want to get up close and personal with Kevin's beatbox skill. Also the Kevin Show Kevin's Fifth features him cello boxing. Go down the rabbit hole. You won't regret it because PTX NEVER DISAPPOINTS
Hi there, yes I will absolutely continue to react to them so stay tuned for more content soon. I have seen Daft Punk recommended a lot so I might do that one next!
They've just received their FIFTH Grammy Award nomination for their 2022 Christmas album! 💖 All you hear is them unless you see an instrument on stage - with very rare exceptions like their version of "Creep". They float thru this song so fluidly weaving from one singer to another! A classic Pentatonix sound! It's Christmas time and musically Christmas means Pentatonix! I just subbed in hopes of more Pentatonix reactions! 💖
Great reaction, so happy you got to experience Pentatonix. This group has been together for 12 yrs. They have won 3 Grammy's. They won the show the Sing Off back in 2010 or 2011. The members Mitch Grassi who started the song is a Counter Tenor, the tall blonde second singer is Scott Hoying he is the Baritone. The 3rd singer is Matt Sallee he is their Bass, he has only been with the group since 2017 Avi Kaplan left the group in the same year. Then Kirsten Maldonado is the Mezzo Soprano. Mitch, Scott and Kirsten grew up together in Arlington Texas they have known each other since they were kids. Then last but never least Kevin Olusola, Beat Boxer extraordinaire. He is renowned for his Cello Boxing, he is a classically trained Cellist. He also holds a Pre-Med degree from Yale and he speaks fluent Mandarin. You can't go wrong with anything you choose to listen to from them they are incredible. I have seen them in concert twice once in 2018 and then this past September, they sound exactly the same in concert. Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole.
Hi there, thanks for such a wonderful comment. It's really cool to learn about their backgrounds and how they were formed. I will be reacting to much more from them since they are so special and talented. Welcome to the Channel!
Welcome to the world of Pentatonix or PTX. You are in for a treat! This band is so good...not a bad video out there. They floor me every time I hear them.
Glad you like them. I'm sure you will enjoy the rabbit hole you are about to explore. We Pentaholics will be right there with you because your mind is about to be blown. Peace. ❤
You've started with their most recent release but you commented on a few things that are true even from their earliest days - each are strong vocalists, most songs they rotate the lead thru the trio at a minimum (Scott, blonde guy, Mitch, dark hair, and Kirstin), the beatboxing is outstanding and sometimes takes a more dominant role, the cello only shows up now and then so it's a treat when it does. There really isn't a "lead" person though Scott is definitely more vocal and mobile around stage, but in terms of choosing their music & arrangements, they all have input and collaborate. They have a huge catalog of Christmas music and, be forewarned, this is not your mom's holiday versions! They update, twist, change tempos & add their own flavor to every one. You'll be surprised! Heading into the holidays, a couple of my faves you might take a look at are: The Prayer (from last year's album), The First Noel, Silent Night (EARLY PTX), Come All Ye Faithful and Mary Did You Know. Hope you continue to explore PTX -
Hi there, thanks for such a wonderful and detailed comment. I guess I jumped in at a good time since their Christmas tracks seem to be a big success. Will definitely be checking more from them soon so stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
The first thing to know about PTX is that they cover a vast number of genres. For example, as a contrast, you might be interested in their cover of Mad World.
Interesting, I might check that one out since it's slower paced with less sounds, so it should really showcase their beatboxing. Welcome to the Channel!
Quiet pauses before more is common in what they do. This needed the storm. Cello boxing is used when it is perfect for the song, otherwise Kevin does every known instrument and he is an entire drum kit . They write their own as a band and as individuals. They cover all genre (including orchestral for ballet) … and usually upgrade every one. Huge catalog. Only one member change about six years ago. Basso produndo went solo and into his preferred folk focus. Matt (here) is a lyrical bass with meltingly soul filled tones that took arrangements in different directions. Both bass are superb, just unique. Enjoy. New releases from latest christmas album are superb. Audios out first and now the videos arrive. Any will work for learning the voices. “Pure imagination with Christmas time is here” is video or their newest stunning arrangement of oh holy night (audio i think). With them, i love live performances
Hi there, thanks for your insightful comment, I appreciate it. I will dive deeper into their catalog soon so stay tuned. Thanks for subscribing and Welcome aboard!
They refer to themselves as a band. They have always had a big sound as you mentioned and in many arrangements they have a moment that we refer to as a “wall of sound.” Their number one watched video, “Hallelujah” has a memorable one, so do “Sound of Silence” and “Imagine” as well as many others. Since you’re a fan of beatboxing, I refer you to their original song “Love Again,” the mashup cover they did of “New Rules/Are You That Somebody” and their covers of “Problem” and “Gold.” Kevin also went off on stage, so look for a live performance of “Kevin’s Fifth” and his solo cover of “Down.” You will notice another singer as you go along. Their original bass, Avi, left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt (the one you called Usher, lol). Mitch (Freddy Mercury, lol - and you have no idea - check out their cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Kirstin (or Kirstie rhyming with thirsty) change up their looks a lot, but it is always still them. The only member I didn’t mention is Scott, who I believe you call Thanos, lol. You heard him, he’s a monster, you heard all of them, there’s not much I can say that the performance didn’t. Welcome to PTX! Subbed for more!
Hi there, wow thanks for such an insightful comment and for subscribing, I really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the commentary, I like to be comedic with my sense of humor. Will be checking out all the suggestions soon so stay tuned. Welcome aboard!
Since you're interested in beatboxing and the Christmas season is upon us you might like to watch their song Last Christmas (Wham cover). They have two guest performers with them and there's a lot of very fun beatboxing in it. Also great for beatboxing is Bohemian Rhapsody along with about 300 or more other incredible songs to see from this group. Welcome to PTX
In order, Mitch Grassi counter tenor, Scott Hoying baritone, Matt Sallee bass, Kirstin Maldonado mezzo soprano , Kevin Olusola beat boxer/cellist/tenor
Want to see out off this world beatboxing. Pentatonix "Daft Punk" Kevin has been called an alien for his performance. They won their first Grammy for it.
@GeorgeTheCloud Just one thing though. In Daft Punk there are no instruments, pure voices only making every sound. Just remember this, as Pentatonix is generally Acappella.
Nice reaction! Hope you enjoy the Pentatonix rabbit-hole! For beatboxing, I would recommend Love Again (a PTX original song), or their cover of Problem (Ariana Grande), which gives you both Mitch (Freddy Mercury guy) rapping and Kevin (beatboxer) rapping and singing at what seems like the same time.
Hey George - it's interesting that this is the song you started out your Pentatonix journey with because they rarely use an instrument - they are one of the very best (A Cappella) groups of our time and normally do all of the sounds themselves - as time allows you, check out their video of Hallelujah (one of their most popular videos from a few years back) ... also DAFT PUNK (video) where you can really see Kevin's beatboxing skills - Yes, that's an electric cello he is playing - Special notice: as you take this journey of PTX, from 2011 - present there has been only ONE member change in this group - (Avi) who you will see in Hallelujah, (bearded bass) left the group in 2017 and Matt, the black guy who sings bass now, joined the group - The members are: Mitch (the smaller guy with the mustache who sang first (has an unbelievable high range), Scott is the tall blonde who sang second ... Matt is the black guy who sang next and Kirstin is the girl, and of course, Kevin is the beatboxer - I just subscribed - I love to follow new reactors to Pentatonix because it's always a fun journey to take with new people - be aware of the PENTAHOLICS - most of us are very nice but there are 'a few' that can be pushy! 🙂😉😂🤣
Hi thee, thanks for such an insightful comment and also for subscribing, I really appreciate it! Yeah I'm still trying to memorize the names, I recently did another PTX video but I'm waiting for copyright to clear, in that video I called Kevin a different name by mistake, I think I said Mark lol. I will definitely checkout the songs you suggested so stay tuned for much more to come. Welcome aboard!
“The Avengers” of Music! Perfect! I think, although there are 100s of amazing songs (covers and originals) by PTX, you need to react to Daft Punk Medley, Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody for a variety of genres. Believe me, if you continue to listen to this group, your life just got better. In my opinion, you started with their most epic cover of the last 12 years…and that is saying something. Your face though, at the end of the song 😂🤯….I think I saw a puff of smoke come out your ears 😜😁.
A puff of smoke seems like the par since I am cartoonish! A lot of people have suggested the same songs you mentioned so I'm excited to check those out soon. Welcome to the Channel!
Kirstie - All right boys...voices and cello up Mitch - LoOove remains - MiniMitchSlap Scott - Blue Eyed Soul Dragon Drive-by Matt - Renames song 'Falsetto from a Bass' Kevin - "Hold my bow".. "BaaaaBYY!!!!".... Note all of the members except Kevin just might have a greater connection with this song than they know....we would have to ask their parents. This was some serious baby making music in the 90s. Having your song sung by Pentatonix is becoming an award...as it should be. Mitch and Kirstie have both said Kevin has the highest register in the group, his falsetto is fantastic.
You should be watching PENTATONIX cover of BLINDING Lights by the weekend or their original song LOVE AGAIN....Kevin their beatboxer is phenomenal. Something for you to react to next time. Welcome to the PENTAHOLIC'S fan club❤️❤️👍
They are known for being one of the best, if not the best a cappella groups in the business!! Just their voices, no instruments. We love it when they 'branch out', however, especially when we get to experience Kevin's cello-boxing.
I just subscribed because you’ve said you will be reacting to more Pentatonix. Great reaction ! And I really appreciate your detailed comments. They have a huge Christmas catalog, but since it isn’t quite Christmas yet, I would love to see you react to “New Rules X Are You That Somebody”. 🙏♥️
If you want your mind blown away, watch their live Christmas Extravaganza 2022 the Kevin Show/Kevin’s Fifth. Kevin the beat boxer is showing off his talent of playing cello and beatboxing! You will be amazed! Gail
Wow, Jorge, you never disappoint; what a unique reaction! I've been a, "Pentaholic" for years, but hadn't seen this video. They are always amazing. I'd actually recommend you look at their extensive playlist and select songs that you like. Off the top of my head, "Havana," "Hallelujah," and, "Thrift Shop" are 3 quite different ones, also offering you some room for artistic interpretation.
Glad you enjoyed the interpretation, I think this video come out fairly recent and that's how I found it. Will checkout mote from them soon, it's been a while!
Pentatonix (PTX) has a very unique sound that has evolved over their 11 years together. They have only had one change, their original bass was Avi Kaplan who left amicably in 2017 for personal/ family reasons. You should check out their recent live video of Oh Holy Night which was also recorded in the VIVO studio - it’s flat out mind blowing. Dive in to the PTX rabbit hole. There are hundreds of incredible videos; you can’t go wrong! 4 Grammys! For variety, I’d also recommend Daft Punk, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah (original and live from their tv special). Their Evolution videos are great! including Michael Jackson and Ariana Grande. For BabyTonix, you can go all the way back to Season 3 of Sing Off, which they won.
Hi there, thanks so much for the background info. Yes I'll definitely checkout more of their songs. I do have a playlist of hem with more reactions I've done if you want to see them.
Ooh that sounds interesting, thanks for the suggestion. Shout-out to South Africa! Home of the beatboxer Remix, I recommend if you haven't heard. Welcome to the Channel!
Just subbed because of commentary (brief but with great content) and you read all the comments. Amazing. There are “2 versions” of Pentatonix (PTX) that you will come across-V1 with Avi as bass and V2 with Matt as bass. Both are incredible. For V1 listen to O Come All Ye Faithful, Love Again and Imagine. For 2 react to The Prayer and Amazing Grace.
"freddie mercury" is mitch grassi, and if he reminds you of him you should check out the music video for PTX's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, on their channel, and their cover of Somebody To Love, which isn't on their channel but theres a very high quality upload by a channel called "Rue"
Hi there, yes I've seen that request a lot, and I do love Queen so I'm all in for it, thanks for being specific with the other video. Welcome to the Channel!
@GeorgeTheCloud of course, and thank you !! #1 mitch fan here, always happy to help lol :^] & thanks for reacting to this, what an awesome first experience for you!!
The guy playing the cello ( yes, you were right, ) is the only one beatboxing. He can do both simultaneously. Mitch Grassi is very like Freddie in his looks and vocals. Thanos ( Scott Hoying) is, like all the group, extremely versatile in his vocals...they all have massive ranges. Welcome to Pentatonix. Anything you choose to react to will be a great choice since they don't have an bad performances.
You mentioned that Mitch was Freddie Mercury. He sings Freddie in their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. You should check that out. But they own Christmas music. You need to check out O Come All Ye Faithful. Not your parent’s carol any more. The Prayer is another good one. There really are no videos I wouldn’t recommend. Enjoy your journey down this rabbit hole.🎄🎄
The sheer power and drive in their music is absolutely mind-blowing. The other day I came across a new song called Dark by October Ends , He is gonna blow up soon. React to it ASAP 🔥
Loved your reaction. Yes, they are all multi talented and have solo music as well. Interesting that you compared the first singer, Mitch Grassi (Counter Tenor) to Freddie Mercury. He kind of channels Freddie in his look, style and fashion and they both have similar vocal ranges. However, Mitch's tone is more angelic and ethereal where Freddy had a bit more of that grit in his voice at times. They do a great cover of Queen's Bohemian Raphosdy where Mitch is lead vocal. Would love to see you react to that. I subscribed as well.
Hi here, thanks for your support and for subscribing! Yeah I know what you mean about his voice vs Freddy's. Will definitely be checking out Bohemian Rhapsody cover soon, so stay tuned!
@@GeorgeTheCloud Did you know this song was a theme to a Batman Movie back in the day? The original was done by Seal, if you haven't already checked it out! God Bless!
Hi welcome to the great world of PTX. We fans are called Pentaholics. Hope you join us. I subbed for more PTX. They are so amazingly talented And. Super great people. We who love them welcome you , Pick a song all are great.
New subscriber here. Great reaction! If you are interested in beatboxing, check out their original "Love Again". The vibe with their clothing is kind of steam punk and KO's beatboxing is wild on this. Another one that showcases the beatboxing & the bass is their mashup of "New Rules" - Dua Lipa & "Are you That Somebody" - Aaliyah. (You can definitely hear Timbaland's influence on this one.) Also, their Daft Punk mashup video showcases KO's beatboxing. They won a Grammy for this video. Thanks.
Hi there, thanks for subscribing and commenting, I really appreciate it! Will add your suggestions to my list and get to them soon. Welcome to the Channel!
Beware... the Pentaholics will find you... give you info on the BAND (what they call themselves), and individuals... and song suggestions. If you enjoy Beatboxing... During PTXs 2022 Christmas Tour ... Scott, the tall blonde, tells how "The Trio" (Mitch the 1st singer, Scott tall blonde and Kirstie, the lone female... that have been together since High School) found Kevin the "Cello-Boxing/Beatboxer" for the competition show "The Sing-Off "... Then gives Kevin the stage for "Kevin's 5th" a 17+ minutes video, easy find on TH-cam. But only if you're really interested in Beatboxing... Here for your PTX Journey!
Hi there, yes I have been watching beatboxing for years so I am interested and look forward to watching the videos that have been suggested. I hadn't heard of the show 'The Sing-Off' in a long time! Welcome to the Channel!
A viewing that allows taking in the beat boxing as ensemble work - PTX cover of Kiarra's "Gold"; to see Kevin alone, I'd start with his older YT videos (Sam Smith Stay with Me Looping cover) - or recent shorts - Kevin Olusola
This is almost every song they have. I'm going to leave the suggestion to others. The face most people make the first time the really hear Mitch's voice is called a Mitch slap. He didn't display that voice in this video, however Kevin did in his "BAAABYYY" after shredding the cello, which is named Beyonce'. By all means use the suggestions, but also just go to Pentatonix official, and if you see soothing grab it,because there are no bad songs. THere are a couple I dos;ole, no I hate to original enough that I don't like the upgrade either even though I did listen to it, and know it's an upgrade, I still can not make myself like it,
Hi there, yeas a lot of people are saying that their covers are upgrades which is a big claim, however I will listen to them to give them a chance and decide for myself the quality of the cover. I'm excited to go down the rabbit hole, Welcome to the Channel!
If you like beatboxing then you need to watch PENTATONIX singing their original song LOVE AGAIN. Kevin their beatboxer is an insanely talented singer/musician/beatboxer.
new here from ireland. please react to pentatonix the prayer. sing. new rules. daft punk. the sound of silence. amazing grace. oh come all ye Faithfull. cheer leader..
Hi there, shout-out to Ireland, beautiful country. Yes I will react to many of those soon, with some I have to wait for copyright to clear but stay tuned!
Pretty sure only Kevin can properly beatbox, but they can all contribute varying types of sound effects to each song. At this point in their careers, it's easy to see that each of them knows each other's strengths and weaknesses. For example, when it came for the very first "Baby" in this song, it was OBVIOUSLY going to be Scott, because that's the kind of voice that he has and it's perfect for that note. Kevin's "baby" at the end was a surprise! We expected it to be Mitch, but we forgot that Kevin can go that high as well! He simply doesn't have as much vocal control as Mitch does in the stratosphere, but he can handle one note just fine! :) That was an extra treat.
Hi there, thanks for your very insightful comment. I guess I will get to know them better as time goes on, but so far they are a very interesting group, exciting stuff. Welcome to the Channel!
Great song, but not the best for a beatboxing fan since the cello was taking more space than the vocal percussion. To hear more beatboxing, here are some suggestions: Daft Punk, 90's Dance Medley, New Rules x Are You that Somebody?, Coffee in Bed, Blinding Lights, Evolution of Michael Jackson. Mitch has been compared to Freddy Mercury plenty of times, both because of his look and his vocals.
Greeting Sir!! New subscriber here :) Today, I would LOVE to suggest a brand new song entitled "Dissociation", by the French Canadian Death Metal/Classical project named "Disorientation". This is a lyric video* Thank you for your attention and have a nice day ;)
Be sure to Checkout This Video next! th-cam.com/video/0ZVEjDL-ZsY/w-d-xo.html
Kevin (with the cello) was celllo-boxing. A creation of his own where he beat boxes while playing the cello so the percussion you heard was him.
Ah ok gotcha, that's so cool. Will be seeing more from him soon so stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
@@GeorgeTheCloudthere are a lot of videos of him cello boxing. That's how the trio (Scott, Kirstie and Mitch) found him.
Daft Punk Medley for GREAT beatboxing...thier 1st Grammy made in thier apartment for $400. Welcome to PTX! Keep them coming the Pentaholics will swarm to see your reactions.
Hi there, more PTX coming soon for sure, I'm excited for this journey. Welcome to the Channel!
Agreed! Daft Punk is a MUST if you want to hear/see next-level beat boxing!
Second this. Lol
Hi there, wow first comment from Guyana! I will check that one out soon so stay tuned. Thanks for your support and Welcome aboard!
Thanks for commenting and subscribing! I really appreciate it.
The Avengers of Acapella! I like it. Your mind will be boggled as you go into their catalogue.
And I sure will dive into their catalog so stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
Kevin was playing an electric cello. He also did beatboxing while playing the cello.
Kevin is quite the guy! Awesome talent and incredible group. Welcome to the Channel!
Most of their music is not accompanied by an instrument, but when it is, you will usually see that instrument. The beat/cello boxing guru is Kevin. Enjoy the PTX rabbit hole!
Thanks for the info, I'm glad to dive into this rabbit hole, it's about time! Welcome to the Channel!
Pentatonix History…..composed by Alan Freeman
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
The founding members are:-
Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”.
Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and
Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese).
Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.
I guess I jumped in at the right time! I will be checking more from them soon so stay tuned. Thanks for your support and Welcome aboard!
Thanks for your support. You have a memorable user name! Welcome to the Channel!
Glad you like them. I'm sure you will enjoy the rabbit hole you are about to explore. We Pentaholics will be right there with you because your mind is about to be blown. Peace. ❤
I'm excited for this journey. I have listened to beatboxing for years but this is different. Welcome aboard!
@@GeorgeTheCloud , actually...there is no beatboxing in Mad World...but you do get 5 part harmonies as a consolation prize!
Works for me! I'll check it out
Glad you...liked it. I agree, Pentatonix performances can be overwhelming, but in a gooood way. Hope you watch more.
I sure will, I even re-watched this one many times to absorb better. Welcome to the Channel!
Their new video, Pure Imagination/Christmas is Here. It is all al capella.
I heard that as well, will have to check it out. Welcome to the Channel!
Imagine is great! Hallelujah is great! Everything they do is amazing
Those sound really interesting and are huge songs so will check them out soon.
So much Good Stuff everywhere all the time -- from everybody and I am here for it!!! Thanks for the Reaction--
Thanks for commenting and supporting! A lot of PTX content coming soon, Welcome aboard!
Great job. Subbed for more PTX. Figuratively, you've taken your first drink on the fast track to becoming a Pentaholic.
I didn't know I would become an alcoholic AND Pentaholic but what the heck. Welcome aboard!
@@GeorgeTheCloud LOL. Welcome to the club.
Great write up❤❤❤
That was Kevin... he is a cellist, a beatboxer, and a tenor.
Quite the talented man, will check more from them soon. Welcome to the Channel!
Hi there, thanks for your suggestions, those are two of the most popular songs recommended so I will check them out soon. Welcome to the Channel!
Subbed for more Pentatonix! Glad you enjoyed it. They always surprise you in their covers or originals.
Hi there, thanks for your support and for subscribing! More content from them coming soon. Welcome aboard!
Me too!!
In order, Mitch Grassi counter tenor, Scott Hoying baritone, Matt Sallee bass, Kirstin Maldonado mezzo soprano , Kevin Olusola beat boxer/cellist/tenor
Hi there, thanks for the information. Much content from them soon so stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
Want to see out off this world beatboxing. Pentatonix "Daft Punk" Kevin has been called an alien for his performance. They won their first Grammy for it.
I have seen a lot of beatboxing in my day so I have high expectations! Will check it out soon, stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
Hi there, thanks for your suggestions. Seems like they have no shortage of covers and styles which is cool. Welcome to the Channel!
Kirstie - All right boys...voices and cello up
Mitch - LoOove remains - MiniMitchSlap
Scott - Blue Eyed Soul Dragon Drive-by
Matt - Renames song 'Falsetto from a Bass'
Kevin - "Hold my bow"..
Hi there, thanks so much for the detailed and informative comment! I have reacted to many more of their videos since this one!
I knew you'd like that "wall of sound" as we call it!
'Wall of Sound' interesting...
@@GeorgeTheCloud yes, when you see them all coming together that means there big sound heading your way
Ah ok gotcha
You should be watching PENTATONIX cover of BLINDING Lights by the weekend or their original song LOVE AGAIN....Kevin their beatboxer is phenomenal. Something for you to react to next time. Welcome to the PENTAHOLIC'S fan club❤️❤️👍
Hi there, thanks for your suggestions, really curious to checkout more of their videos so stay tuned, Welcome to the Channel!
They are known for being one of the best, if not the best a cappella groups in the business!! Just their voices, no instruments. We love it when they 'branch out', however, especially when we get to experience Kevin's cello-boxing.
I hear that, I am impressed already! Can't wait to checkout their catalog. Welcome to the Channel!
Gracias Don Jorge. You'll love Pentatonix. ❤😊
I'm in for the ride! Welcome to the Channel!
Hi there, thanks for your suggestions and for subscribing! Welcome abroad, glad to have ya. Of course I will be reacting to them soon so stay tuned.
If you want your mind blown away, watch their live Christmas Extravaganza 2022 the Kevin Show/Kevin’s Fifth. Kevin the beat boxer is showing off his talent of playing cello and beatboxing! You will be amazed! Gail
Hi there,t hanks for your suggestion. Would like to check that out soon. Welcome to the Channel!
Please listen to more. They will lift your spirit !
I sure will, this is only the beginning. Stay tuned!
O definitely daft punk, that is a experience, greetings from South Africa
Hi there, glad you enjoyed the commentary! Thanks for your suggestions, more PTX coming soon. Welcome aboard!
Thanks for being part of the journey, this is only the beginning!
@@GeorgeTheCloud and i'll be back for the next one! 😊
Hi there, thanks for your comment and your descriptions, it helps a lot. More PTX content coming soon so stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
Hi there, thanks for your suggestions, I'm excited to check out all their content. Welcome to the Channel!
Check out PTX's Perfume Medley if you want to hear them sing in Japanese!
Hmm interesting. I might as well check it out, what the heck. Welcome to the Channel!
The sheer power and drive in their music is absolutely mind-blowing. The other day I came across a new song called Dark by October Ends , He is gonna blow up soon. React to it ASAP 🔥
I have heard that suggestion before. Will react to it soon!
Welcome to PTX, I subscribed can't wait for more of your PTX reactions.
Hi there, thanks for your support. More PTX coming soon. Welcome aboard mate!
Your gonna love this song George! Kevin plays the cello and beatboxes!
That note at the end from Kevin was divine, unexpected and he nailed it. The best moment of the song for me
Try their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. It will show you all their talents. Lots of beatboxing in it. Good luck with your channel.
Hi there, thanks for your support. I will add that one to the list, a lot of recommendations, I like it. Welcome to the Channel!
I love the "Avengers" of acapella!
Glad you enjoyed!
And, this is why I asked you to check them out about a month ago on one of your videos.
I remember your comment! Thanks for suggesting and keep at it, don't hesitate to spam comments, I get so many requests now it's hard to keep up!
Subbed for more PTX! Thanks for your reaction!
Thanks for your comment and for subscribing! More PTX coming soon, this is only the beginning.

Oh wow, shout-out to the Bahamas! Welcome to the Channel!
@@GeorgeTheCloud Did you know this song was a theme to a Batman Movie back in the day? The original was done by Seal, if you haven't already checked it out!
God Bless!
I have heard the original by Seal many times and think it's very good! But didn't know about the Batman part.

Lol u called Scott Thanos 🤣
Hey it happens lol
Next pentaholic subbed🤣
lol Welcome aboard!
Aha live at the Star Vista, and Popspring. Both are live, and the Popspring performance has 3 originals and the Evolution of Michael Jackson.
Thanks for the suggestions, I like your username!
OTx Bohemian Rhapsody has some of Kevin’s great beatboxing.

Yeah, that's Kevin's electric cello with more or less no body. He's got a nice full wooden one also.
Thanks for letting me know. Welcome to the Channel!
if you think Mitch looks like Freddie Mercury watch their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody
Well that's gonna be interesting. Will watch that very soon.
There’s no drum loops or electronics aside from Kevin’s electric cello.
I hear that, very impressive! Stay tuned for next PTX video coming soon!
Id recommend the, Daft Punk video or Can't hold us! Very high energy!
Hi there, will be sure to watch Daft Punk soon, stay tuned!
Daft Punk medley, Say Something, Problem are old, good ones to start with.
A lot of recommendations so far, very cool. I'm interested in Daft Punk since I enjoy them a lot. Welcome to the Channel!
You should try Say Something if your want to see them with Kevin on Cello etc on one that builds and has space to breathe.
Hi there, yeah I hear ya. Stay tuned for more PTX soon!
Sunscribed for more PTX. Daft Punk medley has insane beat boxing
Hi there, thanks for your support! I'm curious about that one so will check it out soon, Welcome to the Channel!
I Just Liked and Subscribed.
Thanks Tina! I appreciate your support, Welcome aboard!
Beware... the Pentaholics will find you... give you info on the BAND (what they call themselves), and individuals... and song suggestions.
Hi there, thanks for your recommendations, will add those to my list. Welcome to the Channel!
⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡⚡⚡
Hell yeah!
@@GeorgeTheCloud All we ask for is a chance, the music will do the rest.
And chances you will get!
If you like beatboxing then you need to watch PENTATONIX singing their original song LOVE AGAIN. Kevin their beatboxer is an insanely talented singer/musician/beatboxer.
Hi David, I sure do enjoy beatboxing, thanks for the suggestion, will check it out!
Subbed for more PTX reactions
Thanks for your support, will be reacting to them again soon. Welcome aboard!
I suggest you start at the beginning when they were on season 3 of the Sing-Off. ( they won it) and then go from there.
Hi there, that's a good suggestion. I would actually like to follow their journey. Welcome to the Channel!
Wait for it...
Will do...
Welcome to PTX
Thank you! I have reacted to several of their videos since, I have a playlist in case you want to check it out!

Hi there, shout-out to Ireland, beautiful country. Yes I will react to many of those soon, with some I have to wait for copyright to clear but stay tuned!
Do pentatonix hallelujah the beat box is great
That one has been requested a lot so will do a reaction to that soon. Welcome to the Channel!
Cello
Nice, got it right
Recommend their new videos of Please Santa Please (original) and Pure Imagination/Christmas Time Is Here.
Hi there, thanks for the suggestions. Will add them to the list, Welcome to the Channel!
Or do last Christmas 🎄
Oh man, I really enjoy that song so I'll have to check it out, stay tuned. Welcome to the Channel!
I loved the video, I think you should get a little more knowledge. They are great!
I will dive deeper into their catalog and learn more for sure.
Hi there, yeah I hear ya. Will checkout the ones you suggested to hear more beatboxing. Welcome to the Channel!
Greeting Sir!! New subscriber here :) Today, I would LOVE to suggest a brand new song entitled "Dissociation", by the French Canadian Death Metal/Classical project named "Disorientation". This is a lyric video* Thank you for your attention and have a nice day ;)
Hi there, thanks for your support! Will add that one to the list and get to it soon. Welcome to the Channel!
