Carl Weathers brought the character of Apollo Creed to the big screen. The development of this character was the main reason the Rocky franchise lasted longer than expected. Big time role model especially in Rocky 3 when he helped the down and out Rocky. He will be missed

“Action Jackson” should’ve had sequels, action figures, cartoons, comic books, video games, and a host of other things that should’ve built that film into a forever going and successful franchise in cinema history.
Jericho “Action“ Jackson should’ve been just as big & successful as Die Hard’s John McClane. It’s an absolute travesty.

Not that I have any complaints about what Bruce Willis achieved. My point is that was exactly the kind of role Carl was overlooked for. Shame on racist Hollywood…the self proclaimed “bastion of liberalism.”

Carl Weathers has a very refined, almost elegant style of acting that is a little bit niche, and adaptable to any format that requires a respectable figure who supports the rest of the cast, whereas Denzel has a very leaderlike approach, where know matter where he is, he always seems to be able to project a sense of all-knowing wisdom, and that wisdom is applicable to everything, therefore it can spread and show itself in any film he's in, causing it to be successful. It's just two different types of people who contribute to films in different, but uniquely critical ways, which is necessary for the film industry as a whole because it means you're never lacking in what you need, which is just as important as being a top tier success.

I have been a Carl Weathers fan ever since I saw Rocky 2 days after it won the Best Picture Oscar. Rocky was a character driven Drama about achieving your dream. In the first film, Rocky tells Adrian that there's no way for him to win, but if he goes the distance that, in itself, will be a victory. Unfortunately, the Rocky films turned from an artistic endeavor into a long MTV music video in Rocky III and Rocky IV.
Weathers had his own starring role as the title character Action Jackson. But it didn't succeed at the box office. He also starred on his own Detective show called Fortune Dane. Hollywood has never been kind to men with muscles and he isn't any different. Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Fox had no muscles but trained as actors.

Denzel's appeal is he makes all his characters believable and I always found the same to be true of Carl. Carl once said that as much fame and exposure playing Apollo Creed brought him, he believed it typecast him in the eyes of Hollywood for a long time. I personally believe that he should have easily been nominated and won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in Rocky. He was a great actor and person who brought his best to whatever role he played.

I think Weathers did have his opportunities, but his shows and movies he starred in weren't successful. Also he wasn't the actor that Denzel is. I'm reminded of Dereck Luke who was touted as the next Denzel. If Boseman hadn't died so young he could have been
    the next Denzel.
Now its up to Michael B Jordan to be the next Denzel.

The movies Action Jackson and Hurricane Smith should have been made sequels. Me personally I enjoyed those movies. As for Hollywood, Hollywood always have been racist that is nothing new. We live in a racist society plain and simple. But I feel it will be dealt with when Jesus Christ comes back to judge the world.

I think the biggest reason he did not got more leading roles was because of "Action Jackson". I totally agree that if that was a big hit he would have more opportunities. He got his chance there. I have never seen the movie. I don't know if it failed because of the production team or because of him. I suspect it was the former.

When Carl Weathers was on the Call Sheet he was the THE BEST on that sheet..And that includes if he acted along side Denzel Washington; which seems to be not the case

I wish they would have had him play T’Challa’s father (Killmonger’s uncle) in an extended role in Black Panther or something. That would have been a little weird though, with him being Adonis Creed’s father Apollo.
Btw, they shouldn’t have killed off Apollo.
Maybe he could’ve played an aged John Stewart/Green Lantern.

There should have been at least 3 or 4 more "Action Jackson movies with him and Vanity that is for damn sure.. With the right direction they would have been as big as the Lethal Weapon franchise..

Great actor and professional athlete and yet so underrated
Rip Carl Weathers you were one of the greatest ever
Apollo Creed was better than Clubber Lang , Ivan Drago , Tommy Gunn and Mason Dixon

I love Carl, but it's absurd to compare him to Denzel as an actor. Carl's career was pretty formidable.

    😝 "inches"
😕 It's not fair that someone in that good of shape for so long dies at a relatively premature age.
