Please do a Broken Promises video, and show us all the promises from corporations and governments that have not been upheld and maybe even where practiced have worsened !!
abslol1 my sister just told me yesterday that she “has” to buy a matching robe to get ready for her friend’s wedding in. I asked why and she said “everyone does it, it’s just to take a photo in!” ....
That trend needs to go away. I joined a few wedding planning groups, to get ideas after getting engaged. There were at least 3 posts every day of members asking where to get the getting ready robes or "am I putting enough stuff in my bridesmaid proposal boxes?" Whenever someone responded with "just ask," or "uou don't have to do all of that", the response would be "But I want my bridesmaids to feel SpEciAl!!". It was soooooo annoying.
Kylana Garrison I’m also part of a wedding planning group and the amount of waste that weddings can produce is ridiculous! Not only are things like bridesmaid proposals a huge waste physically, but also a huuuuge waste of money. I’m probably saving thousands by forgoing all these random little things!
I was in a wedding a couple years ago, we bought bachelorette tank tops $20 each! But they had a phrase that isn't only specific to the event, I think all 7 of us still wear them to workout so it wasn't thaaaat bad. Also our bride bought us matching pajamas to wear that morning, but I wear pajamas to bed so it was practical, and lingere bags that I use every time I do laundry. We are all young though so tried to save money and didn't go all out buying useless crap
Omg the PR scam of "we're producing a lot of waste, but don't worry.. we're donating the garbage!!" makes me so furious 😡 it's such a misdirection nightmare.
Yea, i think there should be a whole SERIES of: Europeans react to Shelbi’s anti-hauls. I mean crock pot liners? WIND SHIELS WIPERS protectors??? USA is wild.:D
Ha, yes! I’ll admit that I don’t get a lot of the things on these anti-hauls because I’ve never seen them in the UK. The idea of them still annoys me though : )
It's probably true that people wouldn't want to wear a sock that someone else has used even though it's been washed. But those same people have no problem going to a restaurant and using silverware that's been in the mouths of hundreds of other people. 🤷♀️
TOTALLY. & on this same note, people are always disgusted that I would dare buy previously-owned mattresses. Like, y’all ever stayed at a hotel or Airbnb??
Arguably the same logic applies to both the sock and the flatware. The flatware had to be washed and sanitized in a very high temperature dishwasher after every use (regulated by law). Yeah, the restaurant staff all do who knows what with it after that, but the same is true of the sock in a shoe store.
Socks are porous and therefore are harder to clean than silverware. And feet are known to sweat a lot and can have bacteria and fungi that may give you athletes foot or toenail fungus.
We are celebrating our anniversary this month and He bought me a used sewing table and I bought him a hat from poshmark to replace the one he loves that is falling apart. Zero waste Holidays are possible! Sent letters. Love that you're spreading the word on stuff like this. I'd love more content like that. Also I have zero issues with your videos being too long. I put your videos on while I'm cleaning the house and doing chores and it keeps me entertained. I feel like a lot of people are really used to instant gratification and want all the info as fast as possible so they can move on to the next thing. Like why? Soak it all in! Besides, you're a person, not wikipedia.
I run my own very large shoe store. We do have a very limited selection of the nylon footies. We do however provide socks for try on and I personally take them home and wash them weekly. Also how about when you come to try on shoes you bring your own socks!?
My husband and I recently had to make an emergency trip to a shoe store while we were in Vancouver, BC. (It had been raining cats and dogs all day and my husband had warn a hole in the sole of his shoe.) The store did sell socks, and my husband told the salesman he was going to buy a pair, but the salesman said they had clean sock that he could use to try on shoes. I had never experienced that before and wondered why more places don't do that. It was really nice. No one likes those gross nylons anyway. Oh, and my husband did buy the new socks anyway since his other pair was drenched. Haha
We’ve had many many many people rip open packs of socks that we sell and then use them to try on shoes. Then leave the socks. So then we can’t sell them anymore.
I used to work in a shoe store and this happened all the time at our store too. So many people would get mad that they couldn't rip open a pack of socks and then not buy them.
I’m anti hauling places like five below. That store is literally just cheap plastic toys that will either break or get lost because they aren’t important to people.
Ours was never labeled so some items I'd only give a flat for were 5 - it's an annoying store even before realizing it's a plastic hellhole. 5 below should be cancelled!!!
Not related to antihaul, but I love your kitty in the background, can we please get a video about kitty, maybe something about sustainable pet products or something? :)
I can't get over your facial expressions in your thumbnails haha they make me laugh so much. Angry anti-haul Shelby on the loose. Also congrats on the 200k queen you deserve it xx
Dear Emmy and Shelby, I have to say that if it wasn't for both of your channels my zero-waste journey would not have been nearly as worth it. Thank you for spreading the word of this precious knowledge. I don't know what I would have done without it!
Antihaul the show Shark Tank!! The entire show just normalizes the production/sale of very niche products as a means to obtain wealth quickly, regardless of the actual necessity of the products created. Contestants on the show go at great lengths to induce demand where there honestly usually is none.
My health teacher in high school told our class about the sports shirts and told us that the shirts are shipped to other countries and just dumped for people to decide if they want them or not. It’s unbelievable.
I genuinely don't understand people who complain about your long intros or any rambling. Frankly I find it really relaxing and engaging and enjoyable. You do you hun!!!
the fact that you didn’t say “also known as shelbizzle here on youtube” at the beginning makes me feel like something shifted in the alignment of the planets.
It would be great for her to do a series of videos exposing companies. She has a lot of subbies who would email/sign petitions. I did it for the chickens just now and never would've know about it if it wasn't for this video.
I honestly love hearing u talk, ur well spoken and fun. Make ur intros or tangents as long as u want chica! They’re ur videos and we’re grateful u put the work into making them for us!
Not only are they burning the loser team's t-shirts and merch, the customer has to basically pay twice the amount of a regular tshirt to make up for the loss of the company for producing the loser team's shirt.
@@AnnaMarie1395 that's not a solution, most of people in those countries do not need superbowl t-shirts, they need food, medicine, education and better jobs. Clothes are so overproduced that even the poor people usually have enough of them.
Megan Old mine too I’m not sure if this is industry wide but it’s far more eco friendly then washing your car in the driveway and letting the water drain to street 😉for anyone interested
For this Valentine’s Day, I asked my boyfriend to buy me plants instead of flowers. Flowers die within a couple of weeks in my office and plants will (hopefully) last me for much much longer and brings me greater joy. I’m excited to be celebrating this year with minimal waste!
I live in metropolitan chicago. for valentine’s day my boyfriend and i decided to not switch gifts. instead we’re taking the train into the city and going to a free show for a band we like. i find this way more fulfilling, but also sustainable bc we are using only public transit to get around. take that consumerism!
I so agree with your comments on Valentine's Day! My fiance has been wanting a tactical knife, so I bought her a really nice one from Etsy and even had it engraved to add a bit of a romantic touch. I also purchased a homemade card for her (she loves baby yoda and won't stop calling chicken nuggets "chicky nuggies" and I found a card that with baby yoda saying "I love you more than chicky nuggies".) AND Etsy offsets carbon emissions. I'm feeling pretty good about her gift this year!
Wait...yes! Eco-anxiety is so real. I just get so frustrated when people are wasteful and pretend to not be or are uneducated about their actions. I have to bite my tongue so often at work. I watch you’re videos and just feel like I could scream “Yeah! Omg that’s exactly what I’m saying!”
maddy h One of the reasons that I quit my grocery store job is because of all the waste and carelessness I saw all the time. No one gives a damn and it causes me so much stress lol
This is mine and my partner’s 4th Valentine’s together and every year we get each other our favorite candy or snack and write each other a little love letter. It isn’t much but it means a lot to me and takes away any stress that may be associated with the “holiday”.
Love your anti-haul!! Each time I got to some medium-big/traditional store I can't ignore how much unusefull things they sell, and see wrapped things everywhere. I'm glad it's changing. Thank you for helping it to change!!!♻️
When I was in Maine visiting the huge L.L. Bean store, I was really excited to invest in a pair of duck boots because I'd wanted them for so long but I had forgotten to bring long and thick socks because it was summer and it slipped my mind. They thankfully had this drawer full of socks that appeared to be reused ones (I sure hope so because thick socks are expensive!) and I was so glad to see this rather than some sort of throw away sock!
One of the malls here has two play areas and require parents and children to wear socks. They have three baskets at the entrance to each play area. One is for clean adult socks, so if you forget yours you can use them. One is for clean children’s socks, same deal. The third is for you to return the used socks (or you can keep them), which are then washed and donated to a homeless shelter.
I just found your channel today and I’m so thankful! Even this video is so eye opening and I’m starting my journey on moving more zero waste, supporting brands who make sustainable items who care about their carbon footprint, and being more of a minimalist. Thank you for making the videos you make because you are making a difference and I can’t wait to watch all of your videos and transform my life!
Yes! This really annoys me, such a waste and having turned my own engine off and getting peace and quiet I find it really irritating having to then listen to theirs instead!
I would agree. But there are some places, like the south, where much of the year is way to hot to be without air conditioning. even with the windows down it’s extremely uncomfortable. But if weather permits, by all means, turn off your car!
@@AMA080809 I lived in Mississippi for a year, i would say "most of the year" is an exaggeration. Summer months, sure. Maybe try not being 45 mins early, try being only 5 mins early so you're not sitting with the car on for as long. Or hey right on time might work too.
foreverdancing3 I live in south Texas and it’s hot a lot. We have a few good months during “winter” lol. Maybe it’s the humidity that makes it uncomfortable. I can only speak for my comfort and those who I’ve spoken with, of course. Getting there later means the kids are waiting much longer in the heat. But to each his own. Like I said, if weather permits, windows down. :)
@@AMA080809 and makes traffic more of a nightmare around the school. Humidity makes it colder on a cold day and hotter on a hot day. The difference is night and day. I live in Louisiana, humidity will make 88+ feel like your suffocating. When I visit arid areas like Arizona or Death Valley 90 is way more comfortable, except standing in the direct sun.
Super Bowl merch could just be made available online so they can wait until after the game is over to print the stuff. That way, people can still get the stuff relatively quickly but there isn’t the waste involved in making merch for 2 teams. There are plenty of sites (Redbubble comes to mind) that will print items after they’re ordered. Why can’t this be done with sports merch?
I guess because people want to wear thier chosen team merch to hype up to lead to the game. That's a big part of being a sports fan. And lots of them still wear the match even if the team loses. But yeah it would make sense to utilize the services you said anyways but with the option to order and print before the "big game".
Omg just realized that some of this merch is produced then saved for after the superbowl as a "winnsr's shirt", so majority of people don't even bother to buy it so it goes to waste. Wtf! At least some make shirts that are just the teams showing they participated regardless who wins because there are loyal fans who will buy it.
okay, so i recently watched these two guys reacting to videos of couples doing a gender reveal for their baby and i think its so wasteful and very unnecessary. there's this one really extra couple who launched a device into space and once it was up in the atmosphere, there's a box that opens to reveal the gender of the baby. and the guys pointed out that that thing has to fall back somewhere on earth, so where is it going to end up? they were completely right! what's more, the baby isn't even born yet and there's already waste created in its name, for this *one* thing that it's never going to use again in its actual lifetime.
That's so true I've heard of people doing the reveals where they like shoot off bombs. One couple started a wildfire in Arizona I believe and one couple accidentally made a pipe bomb and it killed the grandmother. So not only can these reveals be extremely wasteful but dangerous and deadly..
Ugh, once fb recommended me a gender reveal video that I did not watch but it seemed it involved dropping something very heavy from very high and the mess it created revealed the gender? I'm not completely sure but not only was it super dangerous idea, it's also sooooo wasteful. 😡
saiko I went to a gender reveal right by the water where they did confeti for the reveal and it wasn’t biodegradable. I was picking some of it up afterwards and the mom-to-be was like “well some of the ones we used are biodegradable” ... SOME! SO WHAT ABOUT THE REST! And she’s not alone, so many people do confetti outside in the open and don’t clean it up afterwards 🙄
Its not even just gender reveal parties. It’s any occasion where you feel the need to release anything into the air or create excessive plastic waste. That awful incident in Germany where they set of Chinese lanterns and burned down a zoo with all of the animals trapped inside. Recently I saw thousands of balloons beings released (not to mention containing goddam helium which we need and is running out) into the air for commemoration for people dying and I felt like I couldn’t say anything because of others grief... yet it was thousands of bits of plastic
We did do a gender reveal but we used our own glass cups and plates and stuff instead of disposables. We also bought organic cotton onesies that everyone splashed colored paint on to in order to reveal and we can use them for the baby. So it is possible to go low waste for those kinds of things. Most people just don't think about it. My concern is people bringing unnecessary plastic and waste to the baby shower as gifts.
So glad that I watched this video. I was starting to slack off and become careless about my impact on the Earth, but this video helped bring me back to reality
I also hate the idea of cooking wet food in hot plastic. The researchers who discovered the harmful effects of bpa have said in interviews that the replacements in "bpa free plastic" are likely just as bad.
Thanks for the video, it’s so frustrating how many products are basically useless or not even necessary 🙄 but I’m glad someone is speaking out and making a difference, thanks for want you do and the message you are putting out there
My uncle was a screen printer and he told me that often they just rip up unusedable or imperfectly printed shirts. He had to destroy a bunch of Dinsey movie shirts that didn't get picked to be sold. It is horribly wasteful!
In addition to the crock pot liner. Lots of restaurants use tea urn liners so they don’t have to wash them and that, grossed me out and makes me so annoyed. The restaurant industry is so wasteful in general.
This year I'm supporting a small local bakery for Valentine's day! I have never been super into it, but I feel good supporting a small business and getting a fun box for my bf!
Ewe I’ve been guilty of the crock pot liners before. But, I was really pregnant and sick with a toddler. In Western WA where I live a lot of the apartments DO NOT have dishwashers or washer/dryers. It helped me in a really rough patch in my pregnancy. Less work. Super cute apartment, just no amenities.
I live in CA and have never ever seen those carwash things. Anyway, Shelby, I really enjoy all of these videos, and I agree so so much. You're killing it and making a difference. I'm so grateful for you! Hugs!
I live in California and regularly see them. They're usually used at the drive-through car washes, instead of the full service car washes. I still don't know the purpose tho and it doesn't appear anyone in the comments does either.
OMG! Eco-anxiety, what a brilliant description! I get that every time I grocery shop. EVERYTHING is wrapt in plastic, and I don't knowhow what to do, cuz me and my family have to eat, right? But All the plastic just makes me not want to buy the food. The nearest zero waste shop to us is 2 hours away.
Would love some info you might be thinking about for your wedding...I'm getting married this year too and it's so hard how much waste every vendor has 😩
I just had my wedding and while it wasnt perfect, we tried to do most of it ourselves to avoid a lot of plastic waste. I got plates made from sugarcane and buck wheat fibers as well as utensils made from bamboo so that afterwords, others (and I) who compost could take them and compost it. Renting table clothes is good instead of purchasing your own. Also, I thrifted my wedding dress (would have gotten a dress from a family member but I'm the first one to have an actual wedding ceremony since my great grandparents) as well as helping my bridesmaids find dresses through thrift stores if they didn't have something already. My 'theme' was Christmas, which made decorating easy as the venue had their own decorations up which made it to where we didnt have to worry about those purchases. It comes down to just hunting and looking for options that could even work with you!
True! I got married a couple summers ago, and ended up settling on a smaller wedding with close family and friends. We got married in a cute little chapel which thankfully had a little bit of summer decor up, which was perfect. My sister had gotten married the year before, so I did borrow a few things from her, and our reception was at a local venue which used 'real' plates and napkins. We weren't perfectly waste free, but I found that thrift stores, borrowing from friends, and finding great shops on etsy, was the best way to go for me. Happy planning, and sending you calming vibes for all those decisions!
For that reason, I just eloped! I held a brunch for reception and all the food that we didn’t use was reused by the restaurant in soups, etc. and everyone else was able to bring their own containers and pack food home with them. I was pretty happy!
@@cableknit eloping ftw! We were going out of town anyway for something unrelated, so we just got a licence and an officiant while we were there and tied the knot. Told people when we got back.
I use a crockpot all the time and never bought liners mostly cuz plastic slow cooking with my food sounds gross. I simply soak the pot in hot soapy water for awhile and it sponges right off.🤷♀️
It's not even just crockpot liners. I work at a restaurant chain, where we put liners into containers, then fill it with soups and liquid foods. And then the portioning.. every single portion is wrapped in a small plastic bag.. I kind of hope not every restaurant does this 🤦♀️
I wish I could stop buying bread in plastic and start making my own. Many ingredients you buy to make bread can be bought in paper or metal containers.... But finding the motivation to bake is hard. Also, the right recipe for what you want your bread for is only achieved through trial and error. But finding a bakery in my town that makes whole loaves is also difficult. Unless I haven't looked hard enough (most likely this reason). My next alternative to this is to use these plastic bags to hold my used cat litter. But still, I could use compostinf bags for this... But at least the bag is double purposed....
If you can save up for one, a bread machine might be a great option for you! In college I had a friend who had one and he would put the ingredients in before bed, turn it on, and wake up to fresh bread in the morning. I am a glutton for punishment and like fighting my dough by hand, but everyone I’ve known who has a machine loves it.
I'm not sure if this is accurate, but I've read that professional, automated carwashes use less water than hand-washing at home. I'm curious to know if it's true.
I'm buying my partner a copy of his favourite book for Valentine's day (he's loved it for years but doesn't own it yet) and I've asked him to buy me a vegetable plant for our new garden. For our first Valentines together, before I really got into zero waste, I bought him one of those love heart balloons. Amazingly it hasn't deflated so we've kept it and we take turns giving it to each other as a silly tradition.
Something my workplace does (it's out of the ordinary bc I work at a environmental lab) is a Freecycle Table. People bring in their unwanted items, place it on this table and anyone can come by to take what interests them. It's a cool way for passive community building and for people who don't want to sell stuff, this is a great option. We have a 1 month limit for items to live on that table - then it's the original owner's job to dispose of it accordingly.
Been watching your videos on repeat while I have my break after finishing all my termly uni work. Thank you for creating such amazing videos x we love you x Could you do something about making TH-cam videos and low waste - stuff like cameras and technology and lighting etc? Xxx Also what do you do about your plants? Places that sell plants always come in plastic potters argh 😂
We live in a time where CONVENIENCE is more important than our EARTH. It is so sad to me that people are too stubborn to give up little convinces. I hate those crock pot liners! So unhealthy and unneeded!
I love the idea of getting something we NEED or something very sentimental for Valentine's Day. I made a really thought-out dinner and evening for my husband, and he surprised me with a lovely set of flowers for my hair that I used to wear as a child, and then we used those flowers to make our bedroom smell nice. This was also not in the States, so these flowers come wrapped in a piece of newspaper, and it was so much more sweet for me than a gimmicky anything.
My mom uses those crockpot liners sometimes. 😑 The idea is, you can just throw it away rather than scrubbing crusty food out of the crockpot, which can be a chore. Super convenient, sure, but completely unnecessary. Just soak the damn crockpot for a couple of hours and scrub it when the food softens up. As for the plastic windshield wiper things, I don't know the point either, but as for wasting water - a lot of carwashes these days actually filter and reuse the water they use, so it's technically better than washing your car at home.
@@alicelamberton4445 Yeah, I live in Nebraska, USA, and we get a ton of ice and snow here, so they cover the roads in salt and cars end up geting covered in dry saltwater. It's not good for the paint or the undercarriage, so we need to wash our cars AT LEAST once/month in the winter. And then in the summer, our cars get completely caked in dead mosquitoes. 😳
Guilty as charged with the crock pot liners... it was one of those things that in the moment seemed like a good idea but yeah, not worth it when you think of the additional waste and the cost...
CROCK POT FREAKING LINERS! GAHH! (also yay for one of my anti haul submissions making a video! woop! I knew you didn't like them either haha, felt it in my bones). Valentines is meh to me but there are absolutely ways to celebrate our holidays with zero/minimal waste! These are one of my fav videos that you do! :)
Unpopular opinion here, but I do use crockpot liners occasionally. No dishwasher, and my large crockpot barely fits in my sink. I've already chipped it a little trying to wash it so I use liners for sticky or messy recipes. A family member of mine actually broke theirs while washing it once and couldn't find just the crock part to replace it and had to buy a whole new crockpot instead, which seems more wasteful.
As a disabled person I can understand the crockpot liner. If I was single it would be a real temptation since I dont have a dishwasher. But luckily I have a husband whose job is to clean up because I'm good at cooking so i cook and that's how we split the work.
My old roommate swears by crockpot liners. For her it is a purely time-saving & convenience technique. I never got on to her about it because as you say, if we all do little things, it can add up to big things. She uses a menstrual cup (which I haven't managed to try yet) and has begun shopping second hand after I encouraged her to do so, and I figure that's more than a lot of people do. I agree with you that it frustrated me so much to watch her use them though.
I’m guilty of the crock pot liners! 😬 I don’t buy them anymore but I loved them because I’m a busy working mom and wife with 3 kids. It was a life saver for during the week. But like I said it’s a thing of the past
My husband worked at a convention center when our state hosted the super bowl. He found after that they were throwing out tons of branded tumblers. He ended up saving 50 or so from the trash and we've been using them for reusable party cups for years. Not the classies look but we have not had to buy solos to accommodate large groups of people. Its a win in my book.
Crockpot liners are helpful for us because our crockpot is cracked, that’s it. People are lazy and don’t want to hand wash their crockpot cause you can’t put it in the dishwasher. Also I love your “long” intros don’t apologize for talking it’s your channel, live your life!! Love you Shelbi
My local Scheels has like "sample socks", so practically they will have actual socks for people to try on there shoes with and when you are done trying on shoes you put them in a dirty bin to be washed and used again.
I haven't even watched the video yet but I am so excited you're partnered with CIWF - ever since reading the book Doing Good Better, I've been singing their praises :D !
My mom uses crockpot liners because she struggles with an autoimmune disorder & also lots of injuries from my abusive father when they were married & the struggle of scrubbing dried on food is hard for her, but wow she's great on saving the planet in other ways :)
For the Super Bowl mention. It’s because we live in a country where we want instant gratification. I mean, it would be so simple to produce a stamp for the winner of the Super Bowl, and after whoever wins, go to production with said stamp right after the win, and it be put to market within the week! We need to learn to wait and have patience if we want those items! I really wish we were more responsible for this planet. 😕
My husband and I do practical things for Valentines Day gifts.. one year we adopted a shelter doggy, that love kept giving for 12 years. This year we bought a joint gift a silverware set that was Made in America Liberty Tabletop supporting a small local company. Anna In Ohio.
It makes me so angry and sad to know how horrendously a lot of animals are treated just so we can eat them for cheap 🤬 companies like Ruby Tuesday should definitely be held accountable for not going through with the promise to improve their chickens' living conditions Also, I'm from Germany and I've never seen those windshield plastics around here, so I don't know why you would really need that unnecessary piece of plastic
Also good ideas for valentine's day / gifts for your partner in general: cook them their favourite meal, take them on a nice day out, or agree to put some money aside together for a weekend away instead of spending it on a physical gift. Those have been my favourite gifts to receive and give to my partner!
I've seen crockpot liners in other homes many times. (I guess it is to reduce cleanup or something). For certain times of the year, I can understand (which in my view is about once a year). I never really used it for my crockpot because cooking in plastic doesn't seem like a safe thing to do.
I hear you on the crock pot liners. I personally hate crock pot liners. I hate the idea of cooking my food in plastic and how wasteful and lazy it is. But where I work, it makes complete sense to use them. We often use crock pots to cook food in, but we don’t really have a sink to wash our pots and utensils in. We have a sink, but’s really just a simple sink to wash hands and rinse things. Definitely not for food. So in that case, and that case only do I find it acceptable to use plastic liners. We can clean the crock pots much easier if there’s no food on them.
OMG, this liners make me so so mad! I mean I get it, cleaning a crockpot sucks, but like dying in a fire because our earth is burning sucks more. So it’s a no from me. Glad I’m not the only one who hates them!
Thank you yet again for an amazing anti haul shelby! I love those videos, especially your passionate ramble about the infuriating super bowl dilemma! 😇💗 Keep up the awesomeness and have a happy Valentines day! 😚
Thank you Shelby for drawing attention to those things you mentioned. The most surprise (kind of shock really, that I paused the video and wrote this comment) for me was the trying socks... I mean yes, I am from a different culture and background- I was born and raised in a small town in 120 km from Moscow (in Russia). There people pay money to buy such socks, because they are considered to be not single use... and it is considered to be a great luck if some shoe store offers them for free to try on shoes. People try shoes with such socks and get the home to wear them more... yes, of course, in most cases those socks which are offered in stores for free are not of the highest quality, but still you can wear them, especially in summer time - with your sneakers so that they were invisible, or if you are an old lady who doesn't care you can wear them even with sandals... yes it is not the best look for a fashionista, but it protects your feet and prevents blisters... many people (well ladies, in Russia men are not offered/do not wear such socks) find them convenient... it is interesting to observe the differences between cultures. So just as an idea - these socks must not necessarily be single use! Even Monica from "Friends" taught Chandler to make aroma pouches out of old socks of this kind 😉 in my home I am not plastic free (I am still on my way), but if I have to buy something plastic I try to reuse it somehow. For example, my husband likes milk, so I choose milk in plastic bottles of such form so that I could further use it for my plants as pots))) very convenient especially for orchids, because of transparent plastic 😊👍
Hey Shelbi I just wanted to introduce you to this brand I am not sure if you have heard of them before but they are great. The company is called Waterhaul and they make prescription and non perscripiion sunglasses and glasses that are made from fishing nets that are left in the ocean. When your prescription changes or if they break then you can send them back and they will remelt the plastic to make more. It does take a while to ship to you if you live in the U.S though since it is coming from the UK but the brand is great. Lastly the packing is minimal it only comes a paper mailer slip with no plastic involved!
I live in New Zealand and I'd never heard of Crockpot liners... Why is it so hard for people just to wash their shit?! I'm pretty sure we don't have those windshield wiper covers either. Not sure about fancy stores but in any shoe store I've been in they all had a pile of socks that just get washed and reused. I find it crazy that their are so many disposable and/or single use products for things that aren't necessary at all or have reusable options!
I live in Oregon where we just passed a statewide plastic bag ban. I was in a big store the other day and almost every single person had a cloth shopping bag or paper bags or carried their one or 2 items out without a bag. I didn't hear anyone complaining, everyone just adapted to the new paradigm. It made me sad- why didn't we do this 30 years ago?
Crockpot liners are life savers for mom's. I use them even though I'm waste conscious. I rarely use my crock pot and I don't wash dishes after dinner and it sits there dirty for days and hard to clean. Using the plastic allows me to have a more clean and sanitary home.
For Valentine's Day my fiance and I are going out to some nice restaurant (that normally would hurt our wallet too much) or do a short trip to spend a nice time together. I don't know why people think that you have to give something for this day, when it is all about celebrating your love. The only thing I would buy for this day could be some candles to set the mood in the evening.
I recently saw a post on facebook that said 'why can't I use plastic bags to carry my plastic bottles etc. home from the store?' and I became so enraged at the ignorance. Like don't use plastic period. I can't even deal with it. I'd love to know your input on such a statement.
I had no idea about Super Bowl shirts - that's INSANE! ALSO, I just want to say, I'm obsessed with everything you do! I Because of you, I've started selling and buying clothes on thredup. I use ethique shampoo and conditioner (and I'm obsessed). AND I finally took the plunge and ordered Thinx and the treehugger reusable pads you recommended. I'm just so blown away by the positive impact you've had on my ethical journey. Thanks for everything!
The only time in my life I used crockpot liners was in my tiny college dorm kitchen. I made pasta sauce from scratch in the crockpot (cuz I shared the kitchen with 100+ other students and it was smaller than a studio apartment kitchen) and froze the sauce in my itty bitty freezer for meal preps. The sink was smaller than a standard bathroom sink so it was either that or wash the crockpot literally in the shower
I'm very confused...I'm not from the US and I have never ever seen try on socks? You just wear the socks you're wearing to try on shoes where I'm from. Also, that bag for the windshield wipers, never seen or heard of that before either, we don't put anything on ours. Crockpots are also not very common here either. The US sounds like a crazy place
No-you-shouldnt to in order to make money we make the stupidest craziest shit....and because we like new shiny things....we buy them. Like wtf is wrong with our culture.
Supported! I watched an eye-opening documentary called “Food Inc” that showed graphic footage exposing companies like Tyson, and Perdue and their disgusting, inhumane practices. It’s on Hulu if you’d like to watch (they also cover other farm animals).
Please do a Broken Promises video, and show us all the promises from corporations and governments that have not been upheld and maybe even where practiced have worsened !!
lllovesalll yes!
Yesssss!!!!
lllovesalll yes! Drag the guilty!
I know Starbucks said they’d go dairy free by 2030. I hope they follow through!
Yes I'd love to see this
Crockpot liners sound disgusting...why would you want all that plastic leeching into your food???
Because people are too lazy to wash dishes, that’s why people still eat off of paper plates on a daily basis, even though theres dishwashers. 🤦🏻♀️
PumpkinMozie lazy people 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Lazy to wash
it's so bad because it gets so hot, which releases more of plastic. they can call it "safe", but there's no way it's safe
I thought the liner was the ceramic part you can take out.....like it takes 2 minutes to wash...
Anti haul bachelorette party stuff, I've seen soooooooooo many tumbler cups, t-shirts, bags, ect at the thrift store
abslol1 my sister just told me yesterday that she “has” to buy a matching robe to get ready for her friend’s wedding in. I asked why and she said “everyone does it, it’s just to take a photo in!” ....
Along those lines is the "Bride" t-shirts, flip flops, swimsuits, lingerie etc. Ugh I hate that stuff.
As if there is some kind of shortage of discarded clothing from the US. They don't need more of our trash
And it actually kills local businesses in those countries because where’s the demand
Yea, i think there should be a whole SERIES of: Europeans react to Shelbi’s anti-hauls. I mean crock pot liners? WIND SHIELS WIPERS protectors??? USA is wild.:D
I was about to say that too! 🙈
Yes!? 😂
I didn’t even know these things existed to antihaul
omg yes, i've never ever heard about these before
Ha, yes! I’ll admit that I don’t get a lot of the things on these anti-hauls because I’ve never seen them in the UK. The idea of them still annoys me though : )
Oh I saw those crock pot liners in poundland a few days ago. I did think it was bloody ridiculous.
It's probably true that people wouldn't want to wear a sock that someone else has used even though it's been washed. But those same people have no problem going to a restaurant and using silverware that's been in the mouths of hundreds of other people. 🤷♀️
and i've heard people say they don't want to use a metal straw used by someone else and I was like ummmmm........
Or try on t-shirts, bikinis...
My husband got me a compost tumbler instead of roses 🥀 for Valentines Day. He asked which I wanted, and honestly I’m so glad.
Allyson Hall oooh that’s a nice idea ! Then you could just grow your own 🌹!
Happy anniversary, and what thoughtful gifts!!
I run my own very large shoe store. We do have a very limited selection of the nylon footies. We do however provide socks for try on and I personally take them home and wash them weekly. Also how about when you come to try on shoes you bring your own socks!?
She mentioned that.🤣
My husband and I recently had to make an emergency trip to a shoe store while we were in Vancouver, BC.
@@amandasmith7162 Ugh. People suck. 😕
I used to work in a shoe store and this happened all the time at our store too. So many people would get mad that they couldn't rip open a pack of socks and then not buy them.
I’m anti hauling places like five below. That store is literally just cheap plastic toys that will either break or get lost because they aren’t important to people.
It's a glorified dollar store with even less useful things for people in need
Ours was never labeled so some items I'd only give a flat for were 5 - it's an annoying store even before realizing it's a plastic hellhole. 5 below should be cancelled!!!
Not related to antihaul, but I love your kitty in the background, can we please get a video about kitty, maybe something about sustainable pet products or something? :)
She has one, its a few years old though
I would love this too. I have a cat and I would like to know about zero waste cat litter
This is a great idea! Would love an updated one!
😦 damn I never thought of it like that I just love the show. Good point though.
Outside of not financially supporting Ruby Tuesdays, how can we help “expose” companies such as this?
It would be great for her to do a series of videos exposing companies. She has a lot of subbies who would email/sign petitions. I did it for the chickens just now and never would've know about it if it wasn't for this video.
I honestly love hearing u talk, ur well spoken and fun. Make ur intros or tangents as long as u want chica! They’re ur videos and we’re grateful u put the work into making them for us!
I told my husband to buy me a house plant instead of flowers ❤️
simply brittney I don't understand why the whole world doesn't do this
@@denden798 please don't buy me plants, it's a death sentence for them. I have a black thumb. 😔
Not only are they burning the loser team's t-shirts and merch, the customer has to basically pay twice the amount of a regular tshirt to make up for the loss of the company for producing the loser team's shirt.
And they'll probably only wear the t shirt a few times for 1 year and then the next super ball will come along
Not Me I’ve seen they donate a lot of the clothing to unfortunate country’s.
@@AnnaMarie1395 that's not a solution, most of people in those countries do not need superbowl t-shirts, they need food, medicine, education and better jobs. Clothes are so overproduced that even the poor people usually have enough of them.
Not Me they donate all those losser shirts to 3rd world countries.
@@alexlewis8143 cool, great. People are still paying for 2 shirts.
When I was working at a sports store we had actual socks, that we couldn’t sell for like a year, to try on shoes. They just get washed and reused
The car wash I go to filters their water and then reuses it
Megan Old mine too I’m not sure if this is industry wide but it’s far more eco friendly then washing your car in the driveway and letting the water drain to street 😉for anyone interested
Cool!
well to be fair, i can’t imagine ruby tuesday even being in business in 2025 lmao
Right! I didn't know it was still in business.
Valentine's day anti haul: Blood diamonds and Victoria's Secret.
YES
Tell me about Victoria secret
Just Lacey knickers in general. Personally they just give me a rash and I end up throwing them away. So I stopped buying them a long time ago.
@@tinycomedian the lingerie store with the badly made clothes?
Look for lab created stones and such, they have them at Kay Jewelers and it’s cheaper too 👍
I so agree with your comments on Valentine's Day!
I get a lot of my daughters wooden toys form Etsy. It makes me happy to support a small business.
This is such a tender and gay comment, I love it. And awesome gift choices btw, your lady is a lucky one 👍
Chemicals in plastic being heated .... Scary
Oh my God. I can't believe I never thought about the sports t-shirts. That's appalling.
Anti-haul: sitting in the pick up line at the school with your car RUNNING for 25-45 mins EVERYDAY. this gives me anxiety everytime i walk past it.
I think Crock Pot liners are seriously such a wasteful and unnecessary thing. I've never understood why people use them.
I also hate the idea of cooking wet food in hot plastic. The researchers who discovered the harmful effects of bpa have said in interviews that the replacements in "bpa free plastic" are likely just as bad.
I didn't even know they exist!! But i also dont have a crockpot lol so maybe that's why
Those thin plastic umbrella covers that buildings/stores have for people to put wet umbrellas in.
I NO longer use them.
I just altered my friends old wedding dress so she can use it as a super cute summer dress. Amazing memories and it's not one time use :)
I simply soak the pot in hot soapy water for awhile and it sponges right off.🤷♀️
My car wash doesn’t use those. That’s so bizarre! Like they’re designed to get wet
We recently selected bath towels partially made from old jeans for our Christmas gifts. They are lovely!
As someone with a few chronic illnesses, I have a love/hate relationship with crockpot liners.
Been watching your videos on repeat while I have my break after finishing all my termly uni work. Thank you for creating such amazing videos x we love you x
Could you do something about making TH-cam videos and low waste - stuff like cameras and technology and lighting etc? Xxx
Also what do you do about your plants?
I’m ashamed to say that I used crockpot liners🤦🏻♀️ I sent in that for the anti haul. I haven’t purchased plastic bags in over a year now.
Lindsey Pindsey I just wait for it to rain 😂🤷♀️ guess it’s easier in England
@@alicelamberton4445 Yeah, I live in Nebraska, USA, and we get a ton of ice and snow here, so they cover the roads in salt and cars end up geting covered in dry saltwater. It's not good for the paint or the undercarriage, so we need to wash our cars AT LEAST once/month in the winter. And then in the summer, our cars get completely caked in dead mosquitoes. 😳
Guilty as charged with the crock pot liners... it was one of those things that in the moment seemed like a good idea but yeah, not worth it when you think of the additional waste and the cost...
and you must take out trash more often no one likes that
CROCK POT FREAKING LINERS!
Also is literally a reason I got an instant pot. The thin metal of the instant pot is so much easier to lug around than a traditional crock pot
Thank you for the link! Making it so quick and easy, I am sure lots of people signed!
Also, WOW, the Superbowl merch BLEW MY MIND
My husband and I do practical things for Valentines Day gifts.. one year we adopted a shelter doggy, that love kept giving for 12 years. This year we bought a joint gift a silverware set that was Made in America Liberty Tabletop supporting a small local company. Anna In Ohio.
It makes me so angry and sad to know how horrendously a lot of animals are treated just so we can eat them for cheap 🤬 companies like Ruby Tuesday should definitely be held accountable for not going through with the promise to improve their chickens' living conditions
Also, I'm from Germany and I've never seen those windshield plastics around here, so I don't know why you would really need that unnecessary piece of plastic
Keep up the awesomeness and have a happy Valentines day! 😚
PLEASE do a video on Biofabrication and where we can buy these products!
I enjoy your anti-hauls! This one is crazy to me. I have never come across any of these examples in the UK! Also here the rain washes our cars!!
Shelbi your outfit and background are so aesthetically pleasing I just wanted to tell you :)
I didn't know about Ruby Tuesday! I worked there many many years ago 😆 thanks for the information!
Oh my gosh I didn’t know that about the Super Bowl shirts 😖 WHAT
Crockpot liners are life savers for mom's.
My running store has real socks that you can use to try on shoes with and then they put them in a basket and wash the socks to reuse them
I recently saw a post on facebook that said 'why can't I use plastic bags to carry my plastic bottles etc. home from the store?' and I became so enraged at the ignorance.
It is! All what i hear/see/ read is kindeof crazy😅😅
crazy and lazy lmao
I’m from Europe and I agree with what you say US is a very weird place.
@@jolienvandamme2909 where are you from?
Supported! I watched an eye-opening documentary called “Food Inc” that showed graphic footage exposing companies like Tyson, and Perdue and their disgusting, inhumane practices. It’s on Hulu if you’d like to watch (they also cover other farm animals).
