Probably the best episode in this channel. Very insightful. Thoughtful questions, well answered. After living in U.S for 40 years, I agree with all she said about aging in U.S. It is not bad mouthing, but it is the reality. One has to do what is in their best interest. She made the right call. Thank you for sharing your insights Dr. Alice. I am considering that move also.
It was an interesting discussion .When you are living with a person who has a chronic illness and developes a new problem, it can be very challenging and can rock the boat. It propels you to take tough decisions, find right solutions. She felt she found the right place to settle in India ,after praying .It facilitated her chose to stay in a retirement home instead of having her own house ,that felt intuitive & heartwarming .🧡It is wonderful to meet a brave, versatile lady with a smile thankyou for a meaningful interview.
Thank you for this episode and for Dr. Alice's participation. She is a very hard working and thoughtful individual. I used to ponder where and how I would ideally spend my retirement years, I gained some valuable insights from her.
I LOVE Alice Aunty’s whole Vibe!! Initially I thought she was kind of full of herself and a little annoying. But Wow!! That is a STRONG WOMAN who can not be stopped!! LOVE IT!! I would love for my in-laws to go stay in a place like the place she stays!! But I can just hear them worrying saying “oh no! What if this?! What if that?!” But of course they are worried about how they will live. They live in America with no social life, nothing. What is hard is that- especially in Kerala- all the young people are leaving, like aunty said, abroad. There are big beautiful homes that are empty and gated up and locked. Mostly older people are left there. When she said , “You can’t depend on your children.” Sad but true in America. That’s what all our parents said while we were growing up there. 😕 This is one of the best shows I have heard so far. Great one Avinash!! Well done!! 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏽
27 years in USA but she is typical malayali in accent and mannerisms and speaking English! With exchange rate and having relatives in Kerala makes it easier.
As India develops, this is a good business opportunity. Very good retirement homes are difficult to find and India in 20-30 years will require lot of it.
Its very inspiring talk and i also hv same thought process going on in my mind and this video gives me a push that i m thinking right and i want to go back after living for 27 years here in canada....thnx so much for sharing❤
Absolutely enjoyed this episode, she was so positive, hopeful and very informative about the whole process. Thank you for the detailed hour, Dr.Alice! Looks like she found a good place in Kerala, similar to an Independent living or Assisted living place back in US. Good to know such retirement facilities are available in India, especially something that is trustworthy. (And Medicare is not free, we pay into it all our working lives even during our H1B years. And Medicare does not pay for all treatments n procedures at 100%, your hospital days are precalculated, your therapy days are limited, Medicare pays 80% which means you have to have Medicaid or private insurance or out of pocket for the other 20%. Nothing is free. But what she advised was so important, planning the future, being realistic about urself n health, and carrying a positive attitude makes a big difference in quality of life. Again Thank you for this interview, it made a difference!! Wish her and her husband a healthy, joyful, peaceful and great retirement life!!
Very informative video. I will appreciate if you can say something about taxation rules apply to you as an ordinary Indian resident where your all income from any country will be taxable in India- that includes your social security, withdrawal from retirement account 401K , any dividend or capital gain from your investment in stock market in USA. Many people USA citizens went back to USA after knowing the Indian tax laws. Please put some light on this matter. Thanks
Thanks a lot. Please check out our other videos in our channel, where we talked about 401k, SS benefits, financial FAQs etc., to help with the information you are looking for.
You need US when you are young to make money and being in US for soo long one would already know how the retirement/old age will be. Now that one is past their prime and after taking all the benefits US has to offer, putting US (or any other country which is their Karma bhumi) in bad light shows double standards. So, please stop comparing saying one country is better than others based on your convenience.
I don’t think its about putting a particular country in bad light. At each phase of life, different priorities and choose whats best for you and family. One will pay taxes in India when they live in India
America didn't give her anything free. She worked hard to earn money. Everybody is free to live where they wish and what suits them. You don't know what you will do when you get old. Anyway this website is for the people who comes back to their own country after retirement . Why are you watching these videos and making comments. Qualified skilled people will earn money even if they don't go abroad.
So true, many people live abroad and left their heart in motherland for so many reason and they are waiting for the day to return to their motherland ,iam one among the people who is waiting to return bk to my India without knowing the day
Use the west to make money. If you have enough then stay. But if you don't have enough then move back to India and use the advantage of beating inflation and getting Labour for cheap. You cna have a maid a cook a driver a nurse. Cheap helathcare and medication.
Not really. It will give opportunities for everybody. They need hospital, doctors, nurses, pharmacy, schools for the children, teachers, builders, electricians, plumbers, etc..etc...
You can make this comment only if you have never bargained for a few bucks with the poor vegetable seller on the street while at the same time shamelessly paid exorbitant price for a hyped up movie of an already bloated film star.
@deveshmaheshwari6598 Who is stopping you from coming back. Anyway, this website is for the people who have come back or are thinking of coming back. Not for the people like you to make disrespectful comments. Please remember that most of these people are elderly and you should have some respect for them. I think you are jealous because she has done what you can't.

What has accent gotta do
@@srin937 Some people are quite superficial, and can not see the real value and worth of anything so they pick on accent and looks

True. Hard to find good retirement homes where service is high standards. We are planning to work on collating information and other aspects
She is a teacher and she explained very well on the rational decision and pragmatic view on returning back to India to retire.
Yes. Very clear communicator and clarity in thought process.

Exactly, now she’s using India because it’s cheap. She gave her best years to America and now has only come back to take benefit from India.
Us ke pass printing machine hai wo bhi batao 🤬😡😠

Simple explanation for all confusion. 🎉
Its not always money. Some people want different social life when they get old. Everyone priorties are different.
every plan has pros and cons. One has to decide for oneself about anticipated (and unanticipated) needs...
I believe I also think similarly.
Thats great!!
I don't think increasingly cost of living considered
Inflation is a key aspect to consider in the planning
Basically, India is becoming an old age home..
Not really. It will give opportunities for everybody. They need hospital, doctors, nurses, pharmacy, schools for the children, teachers, builders, electricians, plumbers, etc..etc...
Lots of great reasons we could relate to when my parents picked Nana Nani Cbe in 2015 and we bought ours at NN in prep for future retirement.
Thanks for sharing your experience and plans
How do you like the Nana Nani retirement home? I'm in the process of gathering information about homes for myself. It will be helpful.
She is very lucky.
Thanks for watching
How old is she? Just curious
32nd min....love it
Awesome! Thank you!
👍👍👍
😊
Would u come back if you were fully fit ? U are coming back or praising because of cheap labour you get here
