Just yesterday, I was harassed at Anjuna market road for simply stopping opposite to an alcohol shop, the guy demanded ₹100 for a 1 minute halt to drink water and became violent quicker than the duration of the stoppage. His exact words were "Go back to your own state!" Everything was captured in the car dashcam. The funny part is I live in goa.
@@gamingff4505 bro really? I visited Mumbai this year and stayed there for a week. I was surprised that all the auto and taxis used meter. They were very affordable when I compare with autos from my city, Chennai. Will be visiting Mumbai again soon!
As a European i was shocked to see the lack of infrastructure in Goa. The nature is incredible, but the mentality of people is horrendous. I'd rather go to Spain, Greece or Thailand
I visited Malaysia in November and it cost me a total of ₹1.2 lakh (including airfare to and from Guwahati) for 2 persons. It was 8 day, 7 night trip during which we stayed at Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi Islands, Penang and Malacca. Prices are reasonable. Hotels with swimming pools and other modern amenities are available for ₹2,000 per night including complimentary breakfast. They don't have Uber and Ola there but another app-based service called "Grab". Grab drivers are extremely polite, well-behaved and charges only what's showing on the app. Indians should explore Southeast Asian nations like Malaysia, Thailand (both are visa-free for Indian citizens) rather than wasting their hard-earned money on a place like Goa with it's chapri-like cab drivers and hoteliers.
I still don't understand how hotels abroad are affordable when compared to indian hotel.2k per day including break fast in Malaysia is steal deal. A month back Mumbai woman made a post on twitter comparing cafe prices in Mumbai and Singapore. Mumbai prices are more or same to Singapore. Surprising
@JoseFilipeMonizI understand that but your sky high property values and business is also due to this footfall. It’s a double edged sword. Goan govt must actively fine these people
That garbage is not created by goans....tourists come to goa and make it dirty and now after everything uh people only are saying goa unhygienic😂what a joke
@@roson1911 When you claim your state is tourism state and it is the responsibility of government to look upon garbage Why they pay high tax and high rate?
I’m an American born indian, went to goa last year and Puri this year, puri is Wayyyyy better. Better beaches THOUSAND year old temples incredibly clean and well built public infrastructure and most importantly the police don’t hassle tourists like they do in goa. And I went during raath yatra cops everywhere and no one bothered me! Oh not to mention GOVERNMENT licensed Ganja shops. Indias best kept secret if you ask me.
Yeah I have been to Puri, beaches ⛱️ are beautiful there, had our hotel close to the beach, can vouch for your statement. Also many temples 🛕, can get a spiritual experience
I went to Goa in November with my girlfriend, and we visited Thalassa, which was only 11 km from our Airbnb. Getting there was cheaper because we booked through a local app. However, when we were returning at 11 PM, no app was able to find any drivers. We then went to a taxi stand, but they literally asked for ₹1800 for just 11 km! We started walking out of that area, and after walking for about 2 km, a driver miraculously accepted our ride through the local app. However, he was really scared to pick us up because there were many taxi stands around. We had to be really quick to get inside the car before any taxi mafia noticed us. The driver drove really fast to make sure nobody could catch him. We paid the driver a ₹500 tip for his bravery. The next day, I rented a bike for the rest of our 4-day trip. Never going back to Goa because of these taxi mafias-they are the main reason for the decline in tourism.
Taxi mafia in goa is very old. I remember in 2007 I was in goa for new years and they used to charge us 1500-1800 for 14-15kms. Even omelette bread on street-side gado was around 200-250 and water-bottle for 100rs. All this was in 2007..
I was using the Uber app for a taxi at the Pune railway station, midnight 12 Am. Could not find taxis. This is part of Indian culture, they simply refuse to operate below the "premium night charge".
Samiliar thing happened to me...Booked cab through GoaMiles..But cab driver was really afraid as there was taxi stand in front of resort we were staying..at taxi stand they were asking for 2 times of what being charged in GoaMiles app
Price gouging is a big issue in Goa. Bhindi Fry (small katori) 380/- in a SHACK! Rooms in a home 5400/-!!! It’s no wonder that people are choosing to go elsewhere
I was there last month and I paid 5.5k for a hotel that leaked water inside when it rained. Ridiculous. I've stayed at The Salil Bangkok. One of the finest 5 star hotel for 7k! I always hated the Taxi Mafia. Always rented drive since my first time to go around than being extorted by the Taxi mafi who charged 4k up and down from Vagator to Mandrem and back. So happy to see the decline of Goa because of these exact same reasons I hated the otherwise beautiful place. Unfriendly locals. Taxi Price Extortion. Such high hotel and Restaurant prices but no service. Satisfying decline. Happy that people are waking up. Hope Goa people got what they want. A peaceful jobless Poor Goa. They come and hound on anyone on Social Media too, who are making Reels of Goa. Not like people are coming inside their private property and making reels. So hostile. They deserve to be pennyless.

Restaurant owners in Phuket and krabi are very polite and welcoming. The local crowd does not ogle at bikini clad women. While in India it is total opposite. Foreigners are harassed by beggars and taxi or auto drivers and Indian men passing lewd comments.
Ha ha! Incredible. Imagine that! Hilarious comment. I am half Goan and I used to visit Goa for a holiday twice a year for over 10 years. After 2014-2016, it just felt like it went downhill. Can’t put my finger on what changed but perhaps it was just inflation for inflation sake. No increase in value or facilities. But I still miss the fish thali!
@@andyskywalker1979 lol Goa crowded by more and more Hindus and brought BJP to power. I still remember when I was a kid and it was still a Christian majority state. This is why Americans and Canadians want hindus out. They bring their dirty culture everywhere.
Ah, yes, because clearly, the only thing holding Goa back from being a utopia is the presence of desi tourists. Once they're gone, the streets will be paved with gold, and the beaches will be filled with cultured, sophisticated, and undoubtedly good behavioral tourists.
Maldives govt ministers criticized our PM for which we were furious(no problem with this) and we cancelled them. But they, as a matter of fact maintain international standards to increase tourism and maintain their economy. Pride is fictious. It becomes real only when we act towards it. Playing politics on religion and caste just wastes public funds and is harmful to the country as well. We are all doomed in corruption. Requesting people of Goa to please make this a political issue.
In my last visit, I hired a 2 wheeler. I was supposed to return it before leaving, and as my flight was early morning, I had requested the lender to take at night, WHICH HE AGREED. I went to return the 2 wheeler at 2 a.m., and he wasn't available. I tried calling him , but his phone was off. The shop was open, and other lenders were also present. I requested them take their vehicle and return my ID, explaining the whole situation, but they simply refused to listen, and ignored while they were busy playing cards. One of them even replied rudely, "kya dimaag kharaab kar raha hai!". I was left stranded , half asleep , very tired without any petrol left. Luckily, the petrol was not completely drained, and I could travel for another 20 km(to and fro from my hotel) to return the vehicle after 4 hours at 6 in the morning. After spending nearly a lakh on a 2-day visit, this is not what I would expect. Never ever I am visiting Goa again unless these tourism mafias are rooted out and locals are trained how to behave with tourists.

I visited Goa in September 2024 with my brothers. On the way from the airport to our hotel, the taxi driver, who initially seemed friendly, gradually started showing signs of irritation towards outsiders. Once he got comfortable, his dislike for tourists became apparent. He complained that because of tourists, the local people of Goa were struggling to find jobs. He even went on to say that North Indian people, especially those from Delhi, come to Goa, party excessively, and negatively impact the culture of the state. The driver repeatedly kept saying that we should hire local cabs so that they could earn better. Indirectly, he was advising us to book local cabs, which often overcharge for each trip. Later that same day, we rented scooters from a local rental provider. However, as soon as we took the scooters out, we discovered that they had punctures in multiple places. When we called the rental provider to report the issue, he started shouting at us, claiming that since we had taken the vehicles, it was now our responsibility to pay for the repairs.
I am currently in Goa and one of the scams calling water rides and grand island visit, they treat us inhuman and even they don't even care of safety and just money making torturing people , coming back from boat around 8 PM in the night which is quite scary and almost death ride.. whole day they wasted and tortured us. Even all the tourist in the boat are saying lets go back but they just kept the boat in the middle of the sea and he himself gone to the city and enjoyed and came back at 6.30 . We tourist were stuck in the middle of the sea for almost 3- 4 hours and then death ride to come back to our place when the sea was not favourable to drive a boat. I said a big NOOOOO to this place.. please be safe.. guys.
The water rides and wind surfing are not regulated by the government or policed by the local authorities. They are unsafe in my opinion. Accidents will be covered up and these businesses will be allowed to continue and extort. Sad.
I paid just 60 rs (2 people) from thivim station to mapusa bus stand then another bus to baga again at 60 rs to reach my resort primo bom terra verde. Took scooty at 450 rs and everything was smooth 🎉
I paid Thivim to Morjim Rs 800 for rickshaw (22 kms) and Rs 1300 for a cab from morjim to thivim which is damn expensive as going back to thivim station I don't have any alternate option and for a.single person Rs 1300 was way too expensive
The trip to Russia all inclusive,flights,hotels,3 meals, visits to museums, etc. was just 1.75L for 8 days 7 nights. In fact the breakfast buffet at the Moscow hotel was so staggering-I haven't seen a single 5* hotel in India ( Taj,Oberoi,ITC included) providing such an extensive and superb spread. In fact the staff do not allow an empty space on a plate of cut fruit, cheeses, cold cuts, etc.,filling it up immediately afterwards.😢

Wow, thanks for the glowing review! I'll make sure to put 'Dirty, Unhygienic, Overpriced, and Unsafe' on Goa's tourism brochures. I'm sure it'll be a huge selling point. Can't wait to see the crowds flocking in!
Right now in GOA (arrived on 29th Dec 2024), and it’s shockingly empty! Been coming here for 18 years, but I’ve never seen it like this-beaches deserted, hotels barely occupied. Yet, hotel prices and cab charges remain sky-high. Got charged ₹600 for a 2 km ride! 😔 Goa feels like it’s in bad shape, but I still love this place and hope things turn around soon.
Last time in goa, I had a terrible experience with a car rental guy who cheated me by giving a car with defective tyres and then was fighting me that I damaged them. I promised myself on that trip, never again. Would rather spend more money on a destination which is more welcoming to tourists.
This happens a lot, I am student at BITS Goa & often use taxis for airport or travelling to places of leisure. There a few local taxi companies who purposely weld the broken car’s axles for it just break again so that they can charge the renters exorbitant amounts. Its hard to find good taxi drivers, but since I lived for a really long time, I found a few even offered collectively offered money if their health worsened.
As a first-time visitor to Goa, I had a nightmare experience. It’s disheartening to think that anyone would come to Goa only to be cheated by taxi drivers, restaurants, and hotels, while also facing inappropriate behaviour from local police. Goa has become a city plagued by scams, and tourists are increasingly avoiding it due to the continuous harassment, cheating, scams and deceitful practices. There seems to be no effective mechanism to hold hotel owners, cab drivers, and other wrongdoers accountable for their actions against unsuspecting visitors. Goa is in a dying state, and it’s important to address these issues before it’s too late.
Being in India, I never visited Goa in the last 30 years even after my friends were forcing me to visit this place. Instead i travelled to Phuket, Bangkok and Rawai in Thailand multiple times. Yes I am happy that I made a good decision in life 😅😂
It's unfortunate you missed the Goa of a decade ago. The local vibe was prevalent there and as soon you entered the state, you'd feel relief, less tense, fresh and welcomed. Latin cutlure was briming with life. Everythings changed now. Especially at the tourist zones. The authentic Goans are still in their village homes , so some hope left.
The native Goans are suffering like hell with the infiltration of investors, business people from all over India, particularly from Delhi. They have totally destroyed the old Goa , that I know from the last 35 years. The callous attitude of the State Govt., the local Authorities, the corrupt depts. ,the most arrogant taxi sector, the municipal administrations, the short supply of electricity, the skyrocketed liquor prices, the public disorder, unhygienic conditions, filthy roads, stinking beaches, plundering parking places, all have role in killing Goa. Added to this flight rates have gone through the roof. These catastrophic events finished Goa. Very difficult to revive in a short time. IMHO.
It has nothing to do with Delhi. Taxi mafias are local people of Goa. Safety and cleanliness should be ensured by govt of Goa, not from Delhi. Airfares is not in anyone's control.
@@SubramanyaSarma44 The auto and taxi drivers were the kindest and most wonderful people of Goa. No hate to Delhi, just the widely accepted facts which no one writes about. I totally agree! A trip to Goa last year with my school students was a disaster. North Goa a disaster zone filled with unruly masses who think that Goa means unlimited boozing and cheapo behaviour. It's roads were so crowded that we skipped a few places to visit. The food too has deteriorated with most restaurants only serving third-rate punjabi food. Other restys were too expensive only fit for the well-heeled. On the contrary, our trips to Sri Lanka were fabulous. People extremely friendly,country-so clean and green, reasonably priced hotels and good Lankan food especially seafood. Last evening a much-travelled friend at our club's party said it was his favourite country to visit. Having lived there for many years and hundreds of visits, I was there 2 weeks ago,I can only concur! In fact our trip a few months ago to Russia was the best of the lot. Russia rocks.Moscow and St.Petersburg were fabulous. Prices very reasonable, cheaper than in India. The Rupee- Rouble rate, almost equal, makes it easy to eat, shop, etc. And the Russian people,so friendly ad welcoming.Superb guides too. The next trip this year is already being planned!
Everything is run by mafia in Goa. My car was deliberately damaged because I refused to pay 250 rupees for parking. I don't drink, just love being alone in the peace of South Goa but the locals make it difficult to prefer going there every year.
I visited Goa in 2023. For me Goa is too expensive for Taxi, Food and accommodation. I had an experience in Taxi that to put air condition in Taxi driver charge extra money for it. I will not ever and never travel Goa anymore in my life again. I always refuse my colleagues and relatives not to go Goa.
I booked a hotel room in north goa 15 days ago. For lesser price. It was pay at the property option. 2 days before the booking I called to inform and confirm everything. Owner of the property said I am not taking you in as the price at which you booked is low.i told him I ll complain to the booking app, he said do what you want. I don’t care. It’s a headache. I went to Hampi didn’t go to goa
A resort operator cancelled our fully paid booking a night before we were supposed to travel to Goa because he got a higher offer. He claimed the issue was electrical but we checked once we landed that he had leased out to another group. We had a nightmare experience of booking another resort for 16 people including many toddlers at the last minute. Left a very bitter experience for us. Plus the price we paid was insane for the very dull vibe. The clubs were practically empty and boring. The only upside of the trip was the surfing lessons.

While returning an old man knocked at the door, and started asking who asked you to park here, I said there was not a no parking sign and im sorry I didnt know. He literally called in a mob to beat us up... Luckily we just escaped in the car afraid of being followed though
Excessive tourism is destructive anyways. If I were local goan the influx of tourists would definitely bother me. Sustainability of a region >>>> capitalist economy tourism.
@nebula669 how you manage them is important, to continuously build sustainable tourist sites in case of bumper tourism, rather to stop them, explore them nearby areas
@@Parmarraunak851I have never been to Goa. Limited tourism is okay not the excessive ones. Goa is way too popular for tourism afaik. I'm from Bihar and I think if I were local goan I would be mad too if tourists are trashing the city. Now coming to local taxis and over charging, this is something locals need to confront about it. I think responsibility lies on both sides.
Nearly got scammed at a restaurant renowned for its fish thali and that has four outlets in Goa. This was at the original hole in the wall at Panjim. Ordered a small Kingfisher beer and fish thali, which was very good indeed. When the receipt arrived I noticed the beer was priced over by Rs. 60 and that I was charged for two thalis Rs. 540. I am an Indian living in America and the crooked waiter and cashier took me for a foreigner who would pay without looking at the bill. When I confronted them on the errors I was first told it was the GST that increased the cost of the beer, but after pointing out their fraud on the thalis, they quietly corrected the bill. This chain risks losing its reputation and customer base if they don’t audit their operations and watch who they hire. Tourists be warned. Goa is a scamsters paradise as well.
😂 do you think the owner of the store is not aware of this? All these crooks are from the same category. The owner yourself is group that's why all the stuff is also crooked
I am Goan. I went for a vacation in Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai. I took a 2.5 km taxi ride at 4:30 AM, which cost me only 60 rupees. Then, when I reached Margao Railway Station at 2:00 PM and asked the bike pilot to drop me at the KTC bus stand, the bike pilot quoted 150 rupees, claiming it was 6 km which is very wrong it should be less than 5km. He might have thought I was a tourist and could easily be fooled. However, a local bus came along, which charged me only 20 rupees.
Early morning if you reach, Margao railway station , the local bus which takes you to ktc charges 40 rs to outsiders. I told magir dita and paid 20rs , whole bus was full with outsiders like ppl from north etc. he took 40rs from everyone. One guy mentioned it's 20 rs but conductor was like it's 20km so 40rs.
Even Goans are pissed off from these Taxi Mafia and extreme dearth of public transport..right now, only Mapusa-Panjim-Madgaon and Vasco have good frequency of buses, other places don't even get buses after the sunset
I just hope the Goan people and government will learn something from this. If you do not improve your hospitality and keep on charging exorbitant rates by harassing the tourists, this is what you will get. Many of my friends had terrible experiences in Goa. I can easily visit Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and even Sri Lanka for much less amount than splurging in Goa on over priced accommodation, travel, and drinks.
All I observed in last few trips is that ; "They will make you feel like you are the reason for their sufferings, even when you pay extra for the SIMPLE food. There hospitality will be like the streets vendors " they are not making the tourist feel good "
It was on the cards. The system needs to change. They should learn from places like Bali and Pattaya. If the authorities need any help, I will be fully ready to give instructions.
I stayed at South goa couple of years back, i had to get a taxi/ auto to madgaon station. The hotel declined to arrange one. We walked to nearest junction and couldn't find an auto in peek hours. One taxi stopped and offered to drop, but after getting in i realised driver was drunk. I understood how nom friendly is goa. This is apart from police fining tourist for menial reasons on rented scooters, not to mention one of worst public transport systems.
The worst part is the destruction of nature in Goa. The greenery is vanishing and wherever there used to be dense trees new hotel constructions are happening which is killing the overall vibe of Goa.
My friends visited Sri Lanka instead of Goa last year. The air fares to Colombo from Bangalore was a little higher, compared to Goa. But apart from that, everything else was way better in SL.
As a Goan, I always knew the tourism bubble was going to burst because of all these issues but I didn't expect it to happen this soon. I hope this will teach a lesson to the arrogant elements involved in tourism sector.
You cant blame them. So many goans have been killed by rent a car driven by drunk tourist, crimes on the rise, destruction of forests cleared for rampant housing.
I tried to book stay at South Goa beach huts (can't even call it a home stay because no availability of meals or any other services). The price was Rs5000 (after negociation) per night. I eventually booked a home stay at Tarkarli, Sindhudurg in South Maharashtra at Rs 2500 per night room a few mins from the beach, but excellent food and cultural experience. Plus Tarkarli had Scuba diving, Sindudurga Sea fort options. (Video is coming on my channel) In off seeason, you can get lowest rates in Southern Maharashtra where the local culture is still intact, most hotels are run by families with values. Goa is beautiful in its own right, but it needs harsh reforms.
Hospitality industry always needs to be Welcomed and not be ruled by the mafia's of their respective busines, this is the wake up call for GOA and India as a whole. This is the collective effort of one and all and the policy needs to be reformed
It's won't hamper local goan because most of tourist belt local left Goa. It will hamper to migrant who started business/ work in goa. By investing money 😂 specially people from Delhi and Karnataka
I got scammed back in 2018,. They themselves put scratches on their car and demanded money at the time of return., From then on my trust on Goa was broken., My parents many times told me to let them go to Goa but refused them till date. I’m 100% sure they (local people+police) will loot my parents if they go alone there. I’m scared.
When the movie Dil Chahta Hai came out, I was young and I always wanted to go to Goa but never went till date, I got the opportunity to go to Goa thrice from many of my friends but I refused.because my excitement and love for Goa has been lost. This stories have changed my mind ever since.
Kerala is a much better destination in terms of cost, people, places to relax and food No violence although Taxi and can mafia are everywhere but the state is better equipped
Had booked hotel from an app 1 week prior to arrival. Booking got cancelled automatically on the day we arrived Goa. Neither hotel nor the app team responded. Ultimately had to book a down market hotel on the spot paying exorbitantly high price.
I had visited Goa back in 2005 when I was just out of the college. I've been to Goa multiple times since then. And I have seen the place change. Now, my last visit was in 2022, and I must say, Goa has slowly become India. The locals, govt employees and polititions have picked every bad habits Indians are known for. E.g. lettering, encroachment, hideous poster baazi in every corner.
@honprarules it was more like a super laidback place with a blend of catholic and hindu culture. Roads used to be well maintained. Anjuna beach was a proper hippie paradise. There were other beaches, where free spirited hippies would gather and chill. There barely any shacks on Calangute and Baga beach. Souza lobo restaurant used to serve authentic goan meals with live music from local goan bands and artists. Many restaurants and cafes used to have menus in Russian and Hebrew with staff fluent in both languages. Mapusa and Panjim had very little crowd and had well maintained roads with footpaths. Locals were extremely friendly. Small restaurants and cafes used to serve platters of authentic goan style fish and prawn. I remember eating a full fish and prawns platter for only 120 rupees. I often stayed with Fernandes family at Baga. Which was almost my second home. They've moved to Europe now; just like many Goan families. The best fun I used to have was hopping those blue-white minibuses to explore new villages and beaches. Also, there were many Russian and Israeli tourists.
Compared to past travels, I have seen fewer tourists in Goa. In one way or another, traffic cops are waiting for other state cars. I took the Amboli from Hyderabad to Goa, and as soon as we got on the highway that connected the GOA, there were three checkpoints. At each checkpoint, they tried to inspect Other state vehicles only. Another observation is that the majority of establishments require cash and do not accept UPI or internet payments. Water Sports Activities in Goa is a scam. I was told to pay 2000 for each of the following activities at the stall in Cash only: parasailing, banana rides, jetski rides, speed boats, and bumper rides. To my surprise, they took me inside to sea that the speed boat ride was over, and we only did parasailing for one minute. If I wanted to extra, I had to pay 500. You won't be able to tell when the banana rides, Jetskii, and bumper rides ended as it is very short. Colleagues and family refuse to visit GOA and suggest travelling to Karnataka, specifically Gokarna, Murdeshwar, and Mangaluru.
Totally agree that tourist destinations like, Sri Lanka and Thailand are cheaper and the experience is much better. Overtourism and greed has affected tourist footfall in Goa. But honestly, isn't this true with any tourist destination in India? Does Ola or Uber work in Himachal or Ladakh? Are the prices worth it in these places too? Not to mention the local mafias.
Before BJP: friendly & welcoming with tourists. After BJP: "Go back to your states. Goa for Goans. Speak Konkani in Goa, not English or Hindi." The BJP has pHD in spreading hatred against everything else. It already happened in Karnataka, now happening in Goa. Karnataka was one of the most welcoming states in India before the BJP. Now BJP transformed it in just 15 years.
@learningmaster8060 Not sure why this political angle propped up. Btw, nothing has changed in Bangalore, Vatal Nagraj is still alive and flex boards in english get blackened time to time. Have been seeing this for a long time. Local mafia menace is everywhere in India.
@@chetannatekar9136 Dear, I am telling the truth. People of Goa and Karnataka are sincere and welcoming by nature; without politicians, there wouldn't have been any hatred. Politicians are planting all this hatred for short-term political benefits. I personally know that most of the local BJP workers here in Bangalore hate North Indians, Tamils, Keralites, Muslims, and Christians. Among Congress supporters, the level of hatred is much lower compared to BJP. Before 2010, Bangalore used to be much friendlier to outsiders; hence, so many people, especially those military people from North India, settled in Bangalore post-independence. BJP prioritize below agendas in the sequence, * Mad love of Kannada Language & strong hatred of other languages ( Fear of your language in danger) * Hindutwa and hatred of Muslims and Christians ( Fear of your religion in danger) * "Namma Desha" politics and hatred of people from other states. ( Fear of your region in danger) If you still do not believe, you can silently monitor the political idiology of those people promoting hatred against non-Kannadigas.
Nope, rather, the government can start their own app for booking cab . Learn from Kolkata and Bangalore where government has started their own app for booking cabs, auto
We decided to skip Goa in 2024 after visiting twice a year regularly. I completely agree with the sentiment in this video , also other places in India are becoming just as expensive. For instance, during my recent trips to Kodaikanal and Munnar, the average cost was ₹15,000 per night for a 3-star stay-an undeniably steep price for the experience. My Thailand, Bali and Rajishthan experience was much better and exceptional then Goa.
I have reached Goa on 28th Dec and planned to stay here for a week. Just to drop to the hotel which was around 2.5 KM taxi drivers was asking 500 rupees which was too much. Have spend 4-5 days here and can say that a lot of local population was there. I have not found even 10% of foreign tourists.
Taxi and hotels now exploit too much in Goa. It's not worth it. There are many coastal towns in India. If they develop a little more , can attract tourists.
Maldives, Lakshadweep, Ganpatipule and Konkan have overtaken the overhyped Goa... Honestly, Goa has nothing much to offer..... its just some random beaches
Not Maldives....worst experience to Indians who travel there... Were not welcome there, and we needn't give them the money they don't deserve.... Lakshadweep, Andamans are a better choice
Sorry to say you haven't experienced it's beauty beyond the random beaches. And it is tourists who have made the random beaches famous. Ask people like us who live in Goa how much there is beyond the beaches
@RediscoverwithDeepali girl, not trying to hurt anyone's sentiment... but when it comes to value for money, we will always go to places that offer more for less cost... you will also prefer purchasing a dress that us better in looks and at lower cost... same l9gic goes for everything... even tourism
I was born in goa and my family shifted here in 1995. I can tell you that even being born here i hear racial slurs like 'Ghati' so many times. And especially nowadays people are being so violent towards outsiders. Recently a guy here in our area got beaten up by villagers just because he had verbal argument with a drunk guy. All the villegers came and beat that guy up saying "you all ghatis should go back to you places". Its just sad to see so much hate against people just because they don't come from goa. I can understand if it is related to ethics since many people cause chaos in goa as a tourists but not every outsider is same. So stop treating every person like crap.
Very much true. I myself have had a very bad experience regarding same issue. I prefer going to Daman and Diu now instead of Goa😢. This place once felt like international tourist destination but now people of Goa have ruined its charm.
Bad karma will have a bad ending. Declining tourist is a Slow poison and eventually affect their business. Resorts in Maharashtra did good Business. Ghanta goa jayege
My father rin law is Goan iam not and I have heard him saying bad about Hindus and people of other states when he himself has lived his entire life in Delhi. This is their churches agenda and their hate ful what's app groups who keep sending hate full messages against rest of the india and other religions. Their entire youth has moved abroad with Portuguese passports they are the Biharis of the UK and work on cruises to them build big houses in Goa. Due to mass migration most villages are empty or have elderly population. Many schools has closed down in villages in south due to not enough children left. Still they hate outsiders and want all of Goa to themselves and want citizenship of other other countries. These people are literally hypocrites and get angry when called out. They hate hindus and other religions. Their churches and missionaries spread this hate. They always belive they are superior from rest of the india which is really lack of understanding coz worshipping ur colonizer and thinking we are them does not change the reality. They are proud to be Portuguese and reality is portugal does not even include their history or know about them. I know as I have worked with Portuguese people and seen goans as well imitating their culture. It's fun to watch in a way how distorted their view of things are.
100 PC true. Modiji wants us to tell our friends here outside India to visit the beautiful country but honestly a lot of work needs to be done to punish scammers and regulate this industry.
What started as a joke amongst friends, turned out to be quite descent trip. Went to Nepal during the summers to simply escape the heat, and loved it. Didn't like the roads though. Looked like every road was under expansion/upgradation. Coastal destinations in India are not worth it. Planning to go to Sri-Lanka for 5 days next time during winters.
Goan beaches has lost its pristine appeal. These days agonda, palolem are highly commercialized with touts promoting water sports, boat rides and what not. There is absolutely limited space to take a leisurely walk, or just sit. Vendors are spilling over the entire beach in palolem, for example. Given this scenario, you will have people who will visit to crowd up places, but not the ones who spend.
Goa administration is responsible for this decline tourism in Goa I visited Goa two years back at that time the people were looting the customers in the every manner possible in the shop in the beach in the resort everywhere no one was doing anything regarding it because because of the corruption in which all are part of that's why it is happening now Goa should decline it deserved
It's actually good. It will give some time for the nature to heal. We have made our beaches filthy, trash everywhere. There have been numerous reports of scams in Goa with the tourists. I hope they learn a lesson.
Goa deserves this emptiness.....Over the years people have been scammed or looted on various grounds.....Goa has lost faith on tourism.....many foreigners use to come but now even indians are scared to go goa
Thailand, Bali, Malaysia and Vietnam provide way better value and experience. No need to goto Goa. Southeast Asia is very welcoming to Indian tourists, way more than Europe and US.
Taxi/Auto mafia is not limited to Goa. I found it in every tourist place as well as at the outside of most other airports and railway stations across the country
Not only goa but all over India tourism sucks. Scams, over priced, bad infrastructures, bad behavior of the locals, lack of options in everything, low and very poor quality of facilities and services.... And so much more... People will stop traveling within India now and go abroad as the value of Indian passport is growing and Indians can now easily travel to so many other wonderful and wayyyyy better countries in Asia than India. Even europe is not getting much visitors like they use to because the rise of Asian powers in tourism industry like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia etc.....
Bad behaviour is in Indian genes. Pathetic parenting and lack of exposure to the outside world place an important role here. On the contrary have always met nice and helpful people in Europe
It’s the high taxes in India that is making Indian tourism uncompetitive. 1. Very High tax rates on ATF 2. Very high taxes on petrol/diesel 3. Very high taxes on hotel stay - 18% to 12% 4. Very high food prices in restaurants. Food prices in Goa is more expensive than Thailand/Sri Lanka/Vietnam. High prices with lack of hygiene is not attracting Indian tourists also. Garbage strewn everywhere, filthy unhygienic public toilets at beaches, And even hotels don’t keep their toilets clean.
Locals & the snobbish Govt. should be grateful that tourists visit Goa! Hype is over. No one wants to speak the truth, no one wants to accept the truth and no one wants to listen to the truth. Maximum people are on survival mode in the country.
1. Yesterday auto rickshaw driver demanded Rs. 400 for mere 2 kms(calangut to baga beach)( but the funny part is that I walked through the beach from calangut beach to baga beach). 2. Another incident is cab driver asked Rs. 2500 from calangut to madgaon(~50km) and 2000 by auto rickshaw.
That means there's a problem with how Goan people view culture. Vietnam, Italy, Sikkim, Bhutan etc there are so many countries and states where local culture thrives more due to tourism.
Tourism in Goa is not dead , it just facing stiff competition. Rude Goa natives mostly in Taxi sector and un professional Hospitality sector staff under the Garb of laid back Goa vibe with these high pricing leaves people in bad taste. They prefer alt places or even sit at home. No one likes to pay hefty money only to be ill treated or threatened
True ..i was in daman . Talked to many tourists, all have same version ' bcoz of high prices in Goa , we are in daman or nearby Maharashtra coast line locations.. Going ahead , bcoz of samruddhi expressway central India's tourists got option to go to konkan coastline than to goa at much less cost.
I suggest people to better to visit other states and Countries. Goa has a lot of local tapori goons which are very hostile and instead complain that they will call police. I have experienced this multiple times.

What is that local app?
I was using the Uber app for a taxi at the Pune railway station, midnight 12 Am. Could not find taxis. This is part of Indian culture, they simply refuse to operate below the "premium night charge".

I visited Goa in September 2024 with my brothers. Once he got comfortable, his dislike for tourists became apparent. He complained that because of tourists, the local people of Goa were struggling to find jobs. He even went on to say that North Indian people, especially those from Delhi, come to Goa, party excessively, and negatively impact the culture of the state.

Later that same day, we rented scooters from a local rental provider. However, as soon as we took the scooters out, we discovered that they had punctures in multiple places.
I loved south goa too but locals n maifia won't let u stay in peace
I visited Goa in 2023. For me Goa is too expensive for Taxi, Food and accommodation. I had an experience in Taxi that to put air condition in Taxi driver charge extra money for it. I will not ever and never travel Goa anymore in my life again. I always refuse my colleagues and relatives not to go Goa.

I had visited Goa back in 2005 when I was just out of the college.
I've been to Goa multiple times since then. And I have seen the place change.
Now, my last visit was in 2022, and I must say, Goa has slowly become India.

Can you describe what it was like in 2005?
Goa has become India. That sums up all.

Totally agree that tourist destinations like, Sri Lanka and Thailand are cheaper and the experience is much better. Overtourism and greed has affected tourist footfall in Goa.

Still they hate outsiders and want all of Goa to themselves and want citizenship of other other countries. These people are literally hypocrites and get angry when called out. They hate hindus and other religions. Their churches and missionaries spread this hate.

Taxi/Auto mafia is not limited to Goa. I found it in every tourist place as well as at the outside of most other airports and railway stations across the country
I was there last month and I paid 5.5k for a hotel that leaked water inside when it rained. Ridiculous. I've stayed at The Salil Bangkok. One of the finest 5 star hotel for 7k!
I have sold my property in North Goa due to the perceived decline in the quality of tourists. Goa once possessed a unique charm.
Goa deserves this❤❤🎉
I suggest people to better to visit other states and Countries.
Goa has a lot of local tapori goons which are very hostile and instead complain that they will call police.
I have experienced this multiple times.
