Nice video, and great info. I’ve dealt with this issue on my BX25D one too many times. I definitely am going to upgrade this factor nightmare. Last time the ‘stealership’ cost me $450 dollars because fuel filters aren’t under warranty and then added a battery and tractor wash to boot. This was at 75 hrs after I changed both filters at 50hrs. Now I have 101 hrs and it’s Déjà vu. Errr!
That was a heck of a charge for little bot of work, unless that included pick up and delivery of the tractor. Here is a video I recently did comparing a Racor to a copy. You can buy the copy, and put a racor filter on it and still be less than a racor. th-cam.com/video/y2Boch9ackM/w-d-xo.html
Great job! The second filter closer to the injection pump is never dirty so I would delete the filter that you can’t get to . All the older Kubotas had water separator bowls with a filter element. Hey let’s use 2 air filters and the first filter that filters 99.9 of air almost impossible location lol thanks for your great video!!!
I did this with my BX2360. I took both of the stock filters off and replaced them both with these racors. It works better than the factory setup in cold weather (here in upstate NY, things just warmed up to 11*) but I still have problems with gelling. I am treating the diesel, running close to 50/50 diesel/kerosene and still have problems.
If you are having problems with gelling, I would try buying fuel somewhere else. Be careful mixing that much kerosene in. That will make the fuel dry and may harm in the injection pump. Check and see if there is a place that sells a "winter" fuel. Have you tried an additive? I have used Stanadyne in the tractors, Optilube XPD in my truck with no gelling problems. I am going to use Optilube in the tractors too, I had finish using up the Stanadyne. Howes and Powerservice do not live up to their claims.
I usually get my diesel from the local gas station which I assume, being in upstate NY in January, is selling winter diesel. That said, it is not marked that way. I will check out a few places around that sell winter diesel to the local equipment operators and farmers. They seem to have no problems. I did drain off about 1/3 cup of water recently so maybe it is just bad fuel? Yes, I always treat my fuel starting around November. I have used Howes and Power Service white, with no luck. I just bought some Peak Blue this week and changed the filters, we’ll see how it goes. But it’s very frustrating because this is when I really need the tractor running!
I just performed this very upgrade on my bx25d. Thank you very much for making the content that you do. The job was fun and easy. You got another subscriber 😎
Maybe it was this video i first saw.. Didnt realize you had 2 of these videos.. Again when i do my racor upgrade i will shoot you a shout out. Thanks again
Thanks. I did this video originally. Then people wanted to see the bracket. So I did a video on that. Then I put a Racor on the BX23, so I did video on that since it had a loader and a slightly different bracket. Watch ebay for the filter. I got a deal on mine. I'm pretty sure it was mil surplus.
My 1880 is 2 years old now and this is the 3rd time watching!👍 I don’t use mine in the winter at all and I add plenty of non gel starting before my last couple of uses. I was planning on changing both original filters this winter after only about 200 hours on them. Do you think I should do this upgrade? Without me looking it looks like the first filter, filters for the fuel pump. Am I correct? Thanks for so many great videos!! U do a great job of explaining!!!
If you don't use it in the winter, you will probably be fine. If you OCD and want to have super clean fuel you can do this upgrade for around $100. The big thing is buy clean fuel, have clean cans, and store the cans inside. I did all of that and I still had icing issues. For your uses, something like a racor Mr. Funnel may be good to have. You could pre clean the fuel to reduce the risk of a fuel filter issue.
I just got mine today. Getting ready to install. I know it says on the inlet or unpressurized of the fuel system. But I was wondering, do you think it could be after the lift pump? Its low pressure pump if I'm not mistaken. This would simplify the fuel hose routing IMO.
@@TractorTech Well, I went ahead and put it after the lift pump and, obviously, before the high pressure pump at the engine. I bypassed the filter underneath, but replaced the one at the engine. Seems to work fine for now. If I have problem, I will kick self in behind, replace lift pump and reconfigure the way you said to!! LOL
I bet that’s why it won’t run but for a few seconds even though it’s warmed up, my filters are clogged. I’m surprised it came with such a crap system, definitely needs a proper water/fuel separator filter, with a drain :)
This is one of the biggest things that bothered me about my BX1880 when I purchased it, mine has a loader and it seems to be a slightly different setup. Have you done one on a BX1880 or 2380 yet?
No I haven't put one on an 80 series. I think an 80 series is pretty much the same tractor as mine other than a different dash and hood. I did one on a 50 series with a loader. The bracket has to be made different for a tractor with a loader. th-cam.com/video/ddS0935bJ0g/w-d-xo.html
I have a bx23s I mow a lot of very steep areas, at times the fuel tank will be lower then the rancor filter, is their any danger of the fuel pump not being able to function properly, I would hate to get stalled on one of these steep hills.
Thanks I plan to add this to my BX. I have replaced the 2 filters before and its a pain to get to the one on the bottom. Have hard time accessing the bottom one as its up behind the guard. Does this filter housing have a valve to isolate the filter when you replace the filter or do you still have to pinch off the line?
I picked up some spare inline filter that are 1/4 basic clear plastic filters. Would that cause any issues if I clamped my Kubota 5/16 fuel line onto it? Or would it leak?
Tractor Tech fair enough! I appreciate your advice. I am going to take them back to princess auto. I do plan to get the same filter that is shown in the video and also put in a fuel line on/off shut off before it, so it’ll make changing filter in the mean time easier and less messy.
Standard fuel filter is 50 micron? I have had seven fuel pump failures before I discovered what was the issue. My fuel had been contaminated with a very fine suspended grit, which eventually impeded the pump piston. Since the pumps are not servicable, there is no way to clean it. When I disassembled the failed pump, the inside appeared spotless but the piston dragged. I have since upgraded the pump from 3-5 pound pressure to 6-9 pound pressure and will install a finer filter.
That was about to be my question so you only replaced one filter? Left the other filter on left side of engine factory? Would it be overkill to replace both?
The conduit needs to be able to go over the hose, so measure the OD of your hose to be sure. My hose was 9/16'' OD. I may have stretched 1/2'' conduit over it.
94Bullitt: I am curious about the flow of diesel flow when the new filter is installed. From what I see, the new fuel line is run from the fuel tank to the "in" on the Racor, new fuel line from the "out" of Racor to the suction side of the lift pump, and then fuel line on the exit side of the lift pump all the way to the secondary filter up by the injection pump. Is that correct?
If you have an early BX2200 with an LA211 loader THERE IS NO ROOM FOR THIS UPGRADE. The loader frame mounts lower and more forward than the the style frame with the round mount extension like this one in these videos. This one doesn’t have a loader.
I like it, makes good sense in a simple way. But now I have a good question. Will this upgrade void any warranties? Who would know, who would I ask, before the upgrade? I purchased my new BX 1880 just a few months ago and really giving thought to this upgrade. Thanks Marvin

Awesome! I am very glad you like my videos. Thanks for watchhing and thanks for taking the time to comment!
We ordered this filter and will be installing it this summer. Thanks for the video brother. Keep up the good work and make more Kubota videos.
Good luck with the install. I should have a plowing video up later today. I saw you have a couple new ones I need to check out.

Tough to beat racor fuel filter! Works great on my '02 excursion 7.3 diesel
Yes, they are great!

I'm not a filter engineer but it may need to be on the suction side to work properly.
@@TractorTech Well, I went ahead and put it after the lift pump and, obviously, before the high pressure pump at the engine. I bypassed the filter underneath, but replaced the one at the engine. @@jamesthegreat9309 Let me know if you encounter any problems.
@@TractorTech Will do. Working well so far
I am curious to why not relocate the lift pump to the area between the new filter and the engine filter?
You could, but that would be a lot of work. This way it can be easily returned to stock.
Is 5 micron ok for a bx2370?
That is probably overkill and may work the lift pump too hard. 10 would be sufficient. The wix replacement fitlers are only 50 micron.
I bet that’s why it won’t run but for a few seconds even though it’s warmed up, my filters are clogged. I’m surprised it came with such a crap system, definitely needs a proper water/fuel separator filter, with a drain :)
Idk why kubota makes such a good tractor then cheaps out on the filter setup.
So can you eliminate the 2nd filter also? I have the underneath one as well as one close to the fuel intake. I have a bx2680.
No, leave the one under the hood.
This is one of the biggest things that bothered me about my BX1880 when I purchased it, mine has a loader and it seems to be a slightly different setup. Have you done one on a BX1880 or 2380 yet?

I mow a hill that is 27 degrees and I have not had any issues with it starving for fuel.

Does this filter housing have a valve to isolate the filter when you replace the filter or do you still have to pinch off the line?
Yeah, the bottom filter is a little tough to get to. You will still need to pinch off the fuel line with the Racor.
I installed a ball valve shutoff between the tank and first filter. However, relocating the first filter is now a priority.
You could probably put a shut off valve in the place of the filter that was removed
I picked up some spare inline filter that are 1/4 basic clear plastic filters. Would that cause any issues if I clamped my Kubota 5/16 fuel line onto it? Or would it leak?
There is a very good chance they would leak. I don't like the idea of going to a smaller filter. Would that cause a restriction?
Tractor Tech fair enough! I appreciate your advice. I am going to take them back to princess auto. I do plan to get the same filter that is shown in the video and also put in a fuel line on/off shut off before it, so it’ll make changing filter in the mean time easier and less messy.
I’ve always heard it pronounced ray cor. Raker is something on a chain saw. Put the same one on my bx2230 about 8 years ago.
Hooked on fonics did not work for me.

If you look up a Wix filter that is for a BX it is 50 microns. I would say it meets the OEM specs.
do you leave the filter near the engine after replacing the rear filter?
Yes
That was about to be my question so you only replaced one filter? Left the other filter on left side of engine factory? Would it be overkill to replace both?
Is the second filter at the motor even required with this upgrade?
It is probably not that necessary unless the lift pump, that is after the filter would generate debris. I left mine on there.
Quick question on the size of conduit that goes over the 5/16 fuel lines. Do I go with a bigger size conduit or do I order 5/16 conduit? Thanks
The conduit needs to be able to go over the hose, so measure the OD of your hose to be sure. My hose was 9/16'' OD. I may have stretched 1/2'' conduit over it.
Ok thanks
What filter did you use?
Racor 120at.

I'll make a video for you.
