    Fun video! I’ve had a potted wisteria for two years, got it at 4’, it’s nearly 6’ and a nice shape so and I need to get on a better pruning schedule! Repotting this spring too I’m curious to see what the roots look like.

    Good morning, great lesson on wisteria. 2 years ago I tried to kill an out of control wisteria. I chopped it down to the ground and by early summer it came back. So I decided to let it live. But now, am gonna try to control it with your technique and maybe try to limb it up in a tree form. Wish me luck on that one.
    Your tree wisteria looks great with that twisted trunk and the way it was kept compact.

      Hey Hey 👋🏼 I am so sorry for replying sooo late! That house cleaning session got the best of me. Gonna seal that attic to make sure we’ll never store anything up there again 😂🙈
      It’s almost impossible to kill wisteria. I’m sure that you can train your wisteria into a beautiful shape. Give it some attention twice a year and it’ll be glorious 💜✨🤍
      Wishing you a wonderful week 🙋🏻‍♂️

    Good to know that your wisteria on the balcony has survived 10 years in relatively small pots, as I want to try keeping mine potted. I have no idea where I'd get concrete pots, so I gues if mine bust out I'll just repot them, old pot & all! I suspect your little babies from the plant nursery didn't bloom b/c I've heard it takes 8-10 years from seedling to bloom. Not a plant for the elderly, unless you buy it big, like yours! What I can't find is any instructions on how to train/trellis the top of the wisteria tree---I guess I'll wing it. As for the direction of growth, the clockwise/counterclockwise thing is a myth---the thing that determines which way water goes down the drain is more the shape of the basin, where the water hits the basin, how strong the flow is, other things I can't recall. In any case, it wouldn't work to say Japan was once in the other hemisphere b/c virtually ALL of the earth was once somewhere else, & then, just for fun, the magnetic poles switch every so often, & besides, the tree was probably twisted a certain direction by human hands, not nature. Oh well, it was a nice story!

    Thank you so much for explaining this process. My mother in law gave me seeds from her wisteria 2 years ago and getting them to sprout was a process in itself. I planted them along my fence after having sprouted them and then grew them in a pot for a year. They are now maybe 6 inches tall. They will get there I hope but I was unaware just how much time goes into growing them from seed. I ended up finding two mature potted gals and I’m trying to learn how to treat them. They are trained around a couple of rods. If I’m planting them into the ground do I plant with the rods and let them be until late summer or do I need to train right away? All the videos I’m finding are pruning of a 10 year old or older. I’m having a hard time figuring out how to take care of the (maybe 3 year olds?) that I purchased and will be putting in the ground tomorrow. If you have any tips I would SO appreciate it.

    Hello Sir. I stumbled across your channel and was wondering if you have any suggestions for planting a flowering vine near the mailbox at the end of the driveway. I have always wanted some nice flowering bushes or vines at the mailbox that won't overgrow the mailbox and can stand full sun. I have tried several flowering bushes that supposedly could stand full sun, but sadly died within a couple of months. (Yes, I watered the plants at least once a week because the so-called moisture retaining soil was so dry) Perhaps I was the one who killed the plant lol. Idk. I am interested in the American Wisteria, since it supposedly is slower growing and isn't quite as invasive is the Japanese Wisteria. But I want it in a container like you have in order to try to control its' growth. But I don't believe it would be suitable for growing near the mailbox for that reason.

    Loved this video, thank you so much. I have a wisteria I have just got and it is going to climb (counter clockwise :) ) up a pagoda. But I am struggling as to the correct size pot. Could you please let me know what size, height and top diameter, your pot is? thank you xx

      @balticgardening4002  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hi 🤗 Thank you do much much for your lovely comment. I keep the Wisteria in a rather small pot. Top diameter is 32cm (13 inches) and height is 42cm (17 inches). The smaller pot is going to restrain the vigor of the plant. I might pot it up to one size bigger pot though: that will be 42cm in diameter and 52cm in height. I hope that you will enjoy your wisteria 🤍💜 Hugs from the Baltic Sea

    Hello! Thanks for the video! My pergola is located on my deck. Wondering if I can plant it in pots and train to go up my pergola?

    • @balticgardening4002
      @balticgardening4002  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jessa 🤗 You can absolutely grow your wisteria in a pot on your deck and train it on that pergola. I did that on my balcony. Use a big size container to allow the wisteria to develop a good root system. The wisteria will grow vigorous for the first three years and slow down after that, which is actually nice. Remember to give it liquid fertilizer to keep the plant happy during the summer month, as the level of nutrients in a pot is limited. Very exciting project. I‘m sure it’s gonna look beautiful 💜🤍 Have a great week 🙋🏻‍♂️ Daniel

    This variety are usually not white.. but there might of course be one that has a white raceme as well. But where are you living?, I live in Norway and are used to harsh winters too.

      Hi Hi to Norway Kenneth 🙋🏻‍♂️ I live at the south coast of the Baltic Sea. Outside the city of Gdańsk in Poland.
      The wisteria really came to bloom with gorgeous white cascading flowers. Quite a show. It’s quite baffling why it winds the wrong direction 🤷🏻‍♂️ a friend suspects that it’s grafted but I can’t see a graft.
      So far it looks great in its container 🤗 Hope you had a chilled Pentecost. Greetings from the Baltic Sea 🙋🏻‍♂️ Daniel

      The chinese types wi d themselves anti clockwise, the japanese ones clockwise, that is one way to distinguish rhem, the other is that the chinese ones has short racemes, and have a nice heavy scent, the japanese does have long racemes and have a more subtle/ delicate scent to them. I know of Gdansk very well, I am old enough to remember Lech Walesa and the riots that were then, and a friends of mine is from Katowice.....

    you are messing with me about clock and counter clock, what ever. I hate to through plants away. I rode a bus to buy this Wisteria plant. I have moved it twice. I am in a small mobile home park. and yes I has shoots coming up. I am trying to find out how to contain it. I love the pup. I am going to try to put it in a container and control it. Thanks for sharing.
    Wisteria is absouluetely beautiful, but so invasive.

    Hi Daniel 👋. I received my first wisteria this year strangely enough. My neighbour gave it to me having taken a cutting from hers. I will keep it in a pot and yes why not allow it to be a tree. Love your plant which ever way it's twisting. 😅 enjoy your groom Alfi 🤗

    Im enjoying your video. But to be absolutely frank about Wisteria I want this plant prohibited. You really shouldn't plant this thing!!! If you plant this destructive monster be prepared to keep it controlled and kill it the day you stop managing its upkeep. Wisteria is agonizongly invasive. Really those that plant it should be required to pay for the destruction it causes. Lilac is a lovely alternative. Plant Lilac instead. There are ever blooming Lilac plants. Lilac is not toxic. Wisteria is very toxic to dogs. You don't want Wisteria. Don't underestimate that nightmare plant. Leave the yellow Dandelion be. They will never spread to choke out trees like Wisteria can do. You have been forewarned.

    • @balticgardening4002
      @balticgardening4002  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no 🫣 I know that in most climate zones Wisteria can be very overpowering and almost impossible to control. Luckily they aren’t that vigorous in my climate zone and at most I have to cut back twice a year. I can totally understand that in warmer climates you don’t want such a monster in your garden and especially not if you have dogs that will take the branches from them. So lilac is definitely an amazing alternative

However for at least half of the video, there is very little about the subject. I am not interested in all the stuff you talked in the first 10 minutes.
