It truly feels like no matter how you play, whether you win or lose, you'll get roughly the same amount of points. The grind is literally grinding, there's no reward to doing actually a good job!
The ranking system hasn't changed at all since this video. The requirements to reach the final rank is reportedly over 1 billion xp. That is completely unacceptable. There's also not really an incentive for it since you get no rewards for it apart from the appearance of your rank.
Ikr, no special unlock in halo:infinite or anything, it’s like what’s the point. I’ve been going for all the achievements in mcc hoping for something special but I doubt we’ll get anything tbh
*cough* Achievement based armor unlocks *cough* But in all seriousness, I know why they can't just rework it to that now. However, I'm actually baffled that there are some people that want the credit system back. Why? It was worst than this new system. Its like they forgot it was such a time sink to such an unfair degree. Even Halo 4's unlock system was better. Yeah you had to unlock armor in a linear fashion, but at least when you unlocked it through level you had it. In Reach you had to level up AND THEN save up credits for the this you wanted... Which was usually priced so unfairly. It's insane people want that back.
People want the credit system because it had more freedom. You did have to level up, but you weren't forced to buy everything in a row, like with the battle pass. Now people have to also buy everything they don't want
@@MikeVoss I hated the credit system because when you got to those levels, you should've just unlocked the armor. Its dumb that you had to still grind for the armor.
@@MikeVoss It doesn't matter that you have to buy everything in a row in MCC. It's basically free as you get all the unlock tokens you need at every level. Original Reach gave you the "freedom" to only be able to afford some of the armor while you just get it all once you're the right level in MCC
@@habe1717 Sure but the credit system gave me an incentive to get more stuff that I liked while the MCC system makes me grind threw everything else to get what I want. Sure they are the same but old school had more ways to get to where I needed to get and since there was more than one thing to unlock at once with credits it makes grinding to items I want bearable since the values are balanced for that. MCC system would only work if the cap was dropped and weekly challenges were added. I get they need the playtime but at this point, more people are dropping out like flies due to this and DMR starts. What i dont understand is why people think that reach players just want the old system back when that isn't true, they want credits but with less grind and is that too much to ask for?
@@Yakasuki While I partially disagree, you are right in that some of us have jumped the gun a bit on the assumptions. However, its all done in caution. Reach is an odd beast that many see with rose tinted glasses sometimes (the amount of people I see saying its the best Halo game is a bit off putting to me). So from there, I assume they probably don't look at the myriad of issues the game actually has. And I will say there are a decent number of people saying things like "man the credits system was so much better" but not expanding that comment further by explaining that they want it without the major grind. So that's where that assumption comes from. Not to mention, it's VERY important that anyone who wants the credits system back SHOULD explain that it's without the grind for feedback sake. Without the clarification, I'm afraid 343/Microsoft will take this feedback and just add credits back exactly as they were and not updated to be less of a grind.
Funny you should mention wanting to talk about Destroy all humans. With the Sims 2 and Sonic Heroes music playing, you had me thinking about when I used to play Destroy All Humans, Sonic, and Sims 2 back on PS2.
What's funny is, I was actually contemplating to myself just an hour before watching this if Infinite would be the next Halo 3, and I think it should be. Not to directly be *like* Halo 3, but be the same in spirit. Halo 3 was supposed to be the end all be all of the franchise, and it showed. The multiplayer was perfected, the story ended satisfyingly, they introduced epic moments like teaming up with the flood and a direct partnership between Chief and Arby. Infinite is 343's third original title, and they should pull out all the stops. Perfect Forge, include everything from past games, perfect ranking and progression, perfect gunplay, give something for everyone. It seems like an impossible task, but I think they can do it. Years and years of trial and error SHOULD give them enough knowledge to hit this thing out of the goddamn park, and I can't wait. Here's hoping for the best!!
I used to think like you, a part of me still wants to. But the other side of it is that Bungie kinda nailed it each step of the way, from marketing to release and 343... Well, they've still yet to deliver the WHOLE package with any of their releases. What's disappointing for me is that the best Halo experiences I've had over the last few years have been outside of the main franchise. Forza Horizon's Halo Racing Event and Halo Wars 2, both of which encapsulate Halo (despite not being FPSs) better than 4, 5 or even MCC have. Whether it's a botched and buggy release like MCC, underwhelming multiplayer with Halo 4, lackluster campaign and missing features for Halo 5, I think if it was going to work out it would've. Infinite is truly the last chance 343 has in a lot of ways.
Rank 1-29, xp required resets after clearing 29. 29 is fairly short as well. The shields behind the rank are referred to as tours 1-11 not teirs. Teirs are specifically tied to the "battle pass" system. Just clearing up a little confusion for people who might be confused by that.
Sword lines in Grifball are quite literally the most effective way of getting max xp. Not only did I participate in multiple, but during double xp weekend, it got me from just Tier 1 Colonel to Tier 2 Rookie in just four hours. Averaging 32xp per grifball match. So, as it turns out, Grifball is still an xp/credits farm. Some things never change.
It's really a disaster of an arbitrary system as of its current state. One of my favorite parts about the original system was that from the very start, I had a selection of several different armor types to buy, giving me many options for customization. This new system is so broken, you only unlock helmets and their variants before you really get anything else. On my first day of playing the original Reach, I was able to get the helmet I wanted, the chestplate I wanted, and the shoulder plates I wanted. This battle pass system is godawful on so many levels. Apparently, the credit system was grindy to unlock everything, but that's the worst part about the battlepass system. Even the people who are cool with just using a few items that they want may have to do this massive grind. I do not want to have to go to level 75 or whatever for an EVA helmet if I want to use it, having to grind out every level of items I do not want before then.
can we just get the original system. with all the daily and weekly challenge bonuses. I feel like those challenges really brought the community together.
I think one of the most important things to reintroduce into all of MCC is a map vote. I have played around 30 matches of Invasion and 26 of them have been on Boneyard, 1 on spire and the other ones on some forge map. I believe there are 6 or so maps in the pool and I have seen 3. Same for other game types nearly all my matches were on Boardwalk, Breakpoint, Anchor 9 and Solitary. I think while map voting wouldn't completely negat map repitition it could certainly help. Also i don't understand why after every match you get taken out of the lobby and search for a completely new one. Just at least give me a button for rematch or stay with team.
I think an Achievement/Accolade system to unlock armor would be the best way for people to unlock armor variants. That way, people can aim towards a certain one and work towards that instead of having to unlock everything in order. The Achieve/Acco system would encourage people to actively play the game and not use bots at all, since said Achievements require direct input by the player to accomplish. Halo 3 and 4 did this pretty well, but I think it could be better. Imagine that the Achievements/Accolades are somewhat grind-based, but require specific objectives: Assassinate X amount of people, complete X campaign mission with a group on X difficulty, etc.. Also, to encourage people to play ranked, have some armor be unlocked in the lower ranks via Achieve/Accolade system. Remember having to get Recon armor in 3? Play ranked until this specific rank to get the achievement. But that's not all, since there are nameplates as well, have those attached to the system and have the most coveted ones tucked away in ranked. However, I think a good balance of having the coolest looking nameplates behind certain Achievements/Accolades and Ranked gameplay would give enough choice to players of various skills. TL/DR: Give armor sets based on Achievements/Accolades and have them more accessible to people of varying skill levels. Same goes for nameplates, but have the best ones behind Ranked game-types and difficult Achievement/Accolades.
Normally I stay as the default Noble Six with the following features: - The U/A attachment for the Mark V [B] helmet. - The Hazop shoulder pads on both shoulders to give Noble Six a more lore-fitting look. (Kind of like what Noble Two *Kat* wears) - Armor Colors are Black and Black. That's all of the attachments I'm putting on my armor because I'd like to stay as an actual Noble Six in the lore.
I feel like I got a couple ideas to improve the armor unlock system. One idea I heard floating around is the idea of tiers. Instead of a long string, the armor is divided up into a menu with each armor part available at any time but each tier is worth different points with different tiers being unlocked to different but not impossible to reach ranks. Another idea is a similar system to the old Reach challenges and Destiny 2's bounties where every week or so there are different tasks that will award a guaranteed amount of xp with some more difficult challenges just awarding a full point to spend. Just throwing some ideas out there, of course there are more technical things to tweak.
I believe that the armor progression needs an offline alternative in the campaign. MCC says my ping is too high so I can't play multiplayer. That means I can't earn season points. In the end, the ranking system sucks.
Or you know just release all the armor for anyone to customize their spartan any way they want for a 9+ year old game. It's nearly a decade old and not everyone wants to grind through a thousand hours of gameplay to have a blue flame on their head again.
Honestly, Lost Planet 2 had the best progression system IMO. You always get something when you pick up drops either in single or multiplayer. There was one level with a train where you could grind for about a week to get all the customization stuff and equipment. The best part about it, was that it was actually a fun grind!
#AskDave How did you get to your iconic Purple and Green colors, and what made you fall in love with FOTUS? Not a question, but I think you should do more content. I understand being scared about the reaction, but honestly, you should be able to do what you want
Bothers me that it's gonna take me a lot longer to get my paratrooper w/ robotic arm but on the plus side... Don't have to experience Warrant Officer grind again...
Honestly, if they want to make any changes to the progression system, I feel like they either have to permenantly raise the amount of xp per game by 1.5x (Since 2x would be... a bit easy, imo), or to reduce the cap from 10.6 million xp to roughly 8 million (As it's not 10.6 million; rank 82 and need 3 million xp just to get to rank 100 is a bit frustrating, considering I've been playing constantly since launch). However, that's just me. It might be better to do something else, but I wouldn't know.
#DaveRead I think a good idea would be to ditch the reward for playing a match and replace it by increasing the xp you get from kills and medals plus remove the cap
#daveread my viewpoint on allowing your guests to have all the armor that you get is on a 50/50 scale. the only reason I put it there is because in my head I'm referencing an older game rainbow six Vegas 2 where if I wanted to play with a friend and split screen, she was able to make his own profile and whatever progression he made during our time playing was saved onto his specific profile. So although he started at the bottom he was able to keep any progression that he made during our play time. and anybody that I had over was able to make their own separate profile as a guest under my main account and save their progression. I think this would be a good way to bridge the gapand allow anybody who wanted to play split screen to be able to build up their gear and keep their profile as their own
As grindy as it kinda feels, I'm pretty happy with the unlock system tbh. This is the first time I've played Reach, and felt like it was actually POSSIBLE for me to get the Haunted helmet

I didn't expect you and Mark to know each other for some reason.
Oh yeah!
Agree with your points that (in split screen) they should’ve done something like Halo 4 where they could allow guest accounts to use the armor the current player has. This made it much easier for some of my friends to mess around with armor sets and have fun.
This’ll also be much easier for people who want to do Machinema.
I hope 343 can implement this feature if they get the time.
I *hate* the progression system. It's like they're trying to do something similar to CoD but unlike them the experience point system is such garbage. It truly feels like no matter how you play, whether you win or lose, you'll get roughly the same amount of points. The grind is literally grinding, there's no reward to doing actually a good job!
Completely FALSE. This is entirely skill based progression - see my comment explaining in detail.
I've been playing for 38 hours and still haven't got the cool stuff
*cough* Achievement based armor unlocks *cough*
But in all seriousness, I know why they can't just rework it to that now.
@@habe1717
Sure but the credit system gave me an incentive to get more stuff that I liked while the MCC system makes me grind threw everything else to get what I want.
Without the clarification, I'm afraid 343/Microsoft will take this feedback and just add credits back exactly as they were and not updated to be less of a grind.
background traverse town music hit me in the feels
Never in my lifetime did I expect to hear LS Mark in a Halo video
Thank you so much for reading my comment 😁 you just made my day 100 times better
Funny you should mention wanting to talk about Destroy all humans. With the Sims 2 and Sonic Heroes music playing, you had me thinking about when I used to play Destroy All Humans, Sonic, and Sims 2 back on PS2.
bruh, i want the mark 4 helmet, but what you said in this video gave me the feels man
Huh, I can help but notice the absolute BANGERS you play in the background.
The ranking system in MCC's Reach is super grindy and I don't understand how people are already level 100
If they just remove the xp cap, give us XP from campaign I would be happy.
Also my GT is Ryuu Jar Mdama.
Sorry if you saw me AFKing in firefight...
I actually ran into you in a match the other day.
The grind/ the afk's are the reason ive been taking a break
I felt that Machinima point you made about the armor. I hope they address this and soon
I would love more captain assassin and I’m glad you’re still making videos keep it up😁
Thank you for the Mask of Light intro.
I just wish that the armor that you currently had equipped on halo reach before mcc would transfer over
It's really a disaster of an arbitrary system as of its current state.
AGREED
I love how u added bionicle clips and some of it I agree with mostly the standing around is really annoying or running I circles
can we just get the original system. with all the daily and weekly challenge bonuses.
100%, i completely agree
Bonus XP weekend is ended
I'm done playing
I also wish there were challenges the same way old reach had because it would ease the grind so much

Normally I stay as the default Noble Six with the following features:
- The U/A attachment for the Mark V [B] helmet.
- The Hazop shoulder pads on both shoulders to give Noble Six a more lore-fitting look. (Kind of like what Noble Two *Kat* wears)
- Armor Colors are Black and Black.
That's all of the attachments I'm putting on my armor because I'd like to stay as an actual Noble Six in the lore.
I wish it was unlocked armor like og reach with the progression as an additional content
OMG BIONICLE. glad to see you’re a man of culture. 🤝👊

How did you get to your iconic Purple and Green colors, and what made you fall in love with FOTUS?
Not a question, but I think you should do more content. I understand being scared about the reaction, but honestly, you should be able to do what you want

Whoa what the hell, LS Mark showed up? Man, talk about a crossover episode.
Unlocking everything is cool, but having a pick and choose system is great for deciding what we want and don't want.
The XP cap was increased from 8,000 to 16,000. Makes the tier system way faster and nicer.

I still can’t believe it’s 1 BILLION! Xp to get to max rank, I’m at 5 million 😭
I think this would be a good way to bridge the gapand allow anybody who wanted to play split screen to be able to build up their gear and keep their profile as their own
I agree the new system seems too grindy.

How would one go about unlocking an armour piece once the season is over? Couldn't be gone could it
