Add in Yorke and Greenwoods solo works and The Smile and the breadth and depth of the work is peerless. From 1995 to 2024, there's so much to discover and explore, for those just discovering them now.
Great reaction, friend! I’ll say this- it took me a few years until I was able to say “THIS IS ME!” about Radiohead. Now I was listening in the 90s when the albums came out but when it hit me, it HIT ME. I’m happy for you that you feel it like that already! I hope you continue your exploration of their albums. Based on your vibes in the video, I’d go OK Computer, then In Rainbows, then Hail To The Thief (or maybe Kid A). Whatever you do, do it and enjoy it! I’m a new subscriber, btw. Oh- I’ve cried at all three Radiohead shows I’ve attended. It’s amazing
Your reaction to Let Down! All I can say is I've seen that track have the same impact on many a first time listener. It is unique in it's ability to crush anyone 👌
The chiming sounds you mentioned come from a glockenspiel, which if you don't know is basically the same thing as a xylophone except it has metal bars instead of wooden ones. When people were telling you "No Surprises" is a sad song, I think they were mostly talking about the lyrics, which are very dark. Combine that with basically happy or serene sounding music and the contrast becomes even more disturbing.
Especially after Climbing Up The Walls which is about equally as disturbing lyrically, but sounds disturbing as well. Then No Surprises eases your mind until you realize what it's about, that's my favorite part of the entire album. It's a devastating one, two, punch to the gut, and I love how they approached two similar songs so differently, it's totally brilliant.
If you liked this, just know you’ve only scratched the surface. Let Down is near the top but there are like dozens of other songs you’ll love, start diving into whole albums.

Radiohead is the only band from the last 30 years that I compare to bands like the Beatles and Pink Floyd.
