This was very nice. I agree, it’s all about your perspective. I have two points I try to express to someone who is having a hard time dealing with a situation. First, it’s more important to “make it an outstanding day“ rather than “have an outstanding day“. You’re the only one that can change how you’re feeling. Secondly, don’t live your life by other peoples fears or ignorance. If I can steal a quote from Bob Weir, “live your life by its own design“. Find and talk with someone that understands what you’re going through. 🧡

This was a really great video Mell. It’s funny that you made it now because I just watched Molly Burke on why she doesn’t like differently abled and why she prefers Disability. You both made really good points, and it drives home the fact that as you said everyone, visually impaired or not is unique and as such have their own thoughts and opinions on what word they would like to use to describe themselves and their condition. I feel like the general public needs to be more aware that concerning yourself with with the politically correct language, and more with the language that each individual person in their interacting with members of a community would like, is the most important thing they could do to make people feel included and excepted.
I must admit, the video that Molly did got my back up, which is one of the reasons why I decided to do this. I wanted to do something like this at some stage, decided that there was no better time than now. I think it is important that people realize that everyone has different views and opinions, you can’t put everyone who is blind in the same box, some people in the blindness community are completely opposite.
You’re totally right, everyone has their own opinions and I feel like the general sighted of the public takes into account more whatever the most currently except the term is to describe Disability, rather than what each individual with that condition who they may be interacting with actually prefers.
Well, I feel that there is no point wasting my time being negative about a situation that I can’t prevent, repair or escape. It is something that I am proud of, something that is a part of me, almost like a religion or culture.
I say I am completely blind I think if you walk around with a cane,. Which is what I do,. When I’m out with my family you know?. They know to move out of the way because a blind person is coming your way you know?. And they were out of the way because they know the cane they know you know oh a person with a cane is coming is coming you know?.
