  • A collection of all the photos of the Enterprise Refit I could find. Most are of the Refit A version, from the Smithsonian and from Christie's auction. Some rare photos of the TMP version are included.
    Hope you find this useful!!

Wow! The refit version is, by far, my all-time favorite Enterprise. Incredible how much detail and precision there is up close. I love the simulated, interlocking panel idea. I think it's called Aztec. I remember seeing it for the first time on the big screen in 1979. The paneled look and new features gave it such a presence and sense of scale. Thanks for posting

THANK YOU!!!! When Mr. Scott said Admiral, we've just spent 18 months re-designing and re-fitting the Enterprise. How in the name of Hell do they expect me to have her ready in 12 hours. She needs more work Sir, a shake down, i wasn't ready. I thought they messed it up. When they did the fly around, I lost control and jumped to my feet and yelled Holy shit, look what they did to the Enterprise!!! The entire audience started applauding and woo wooing. When they engaged the warp drive it literally put tears in my eyes. LOL @spaceace1006

The original painting did made for TMP was far superior than what ILM did.

I've always felt the same way. The original paint job for TMP was a masterpiece. From TWOK on she was still beautiful but looked more gray and dull.

While still beautiful this paint job is a mere shadow of how breathtaking the original TMP paint was. I think I recall reading between TMP and TWOK something happened to the model and the paint had to be redone. Also, at one point one whole side of it was rattle canned flat black because they were having trouble filming it for a ride or something. Its a shame no one did a detailed photo study of her during filming of TMP.

I've been wondering for years why the arboretum windows appeared either opaque or dark after TMP. All that detailed work in there and we never really saw that area onscreen

I think some of the bulbs burnt out. STK- IV The Enterprise A's arboretum windows were almost black very little lighting coming out of it. The bulbs must be really difficult to replace.

Ok, this might be an unpopular opinoin, but I know there's a lot of shades of blue and almost all model makers replicate the studio model. But when I make mine I'm going to make it look like the one from Start Trek TMP, mostly white and light greys. On older film stock blues wash out to greys and they took that into account. (Same reason why Tie Fighters in the OT were grey on screen but the studio models were almost blue/gray in real life. So the intension was for the blue parts to look light grey. By ST6 film stock was to the point that it replicate colours a lot better but the paint job stuck due to time/money.

yes it does. to bad Jeff Bezos won it at auction. The the original men that painted the model with its pearlecent paint scheme wanted to restore her to her former glory. but Bezos has declined their offer and just leaves it in a display case.

So sad. She was always everyone's Enterprise ! At least, we're all still here for Real Trek and each other. The Christie's auction was so sad to me. If I could have afforded it all of at least all of the miniatures, I would have made a museum so We could all enjoy it like we did back then!

I wish these photos were readily available when I was a kid trying to build the AMT kit. I think they had to tone down the gloss paint after the first movie because it was too glossy to film. I think they had a guy from a motorcycle shop paint it initially.

@@aikawaayumu9003 no one said keep it away from the public. But a one of a kind icon should be preserved and not in a lobby with anyone and everyone running their hands all over it. Look at how many times the Smithsonian has had to do conservation work and full restoration on the original Enterprise model when it's viewable by the public and protected. Wealth gives you the ability to purchase what you wish while respecting what you are able to collect is an entirely different thing.
