Looking great. Just a quick suggestion for the car park. As its a preservation line the elves of safety would have to be satisfied that everywhere is safe for the hapless public. The pavement has a couple of pretty high drops on its way up the the station building so maybe a couple of the temporary fencing panels used in the shed area could be installed, with a little warning panel? Make a nice little modern talking point. 😀
Thanks Tony! If it was at the front of the layout then I would have definitely spent more time on getting this section right. As it is though, the car park/pavement is right at the back of the module, sitting behind the platform and hidden behind a fence so it's not really much of an issue. Once I get a few cars in there more permanently it'll be even more invisible from the normal viewing angle. Thanks for watching 😃
Wow, the station module is looking brilliant. The car park looks great right next to the station building and the joint between baseboards is seamless, really impressed with what you done on the station module 😀
Thanks Adam! More luck than talent I imagine but I'm really pleased with how it's looking too. This was one of the few videos where I went in without a plan of how it was meant to look. I knew I wanted the car park in there somewhere but get it all to fit was another matter! Thanks for watching 😃
As for the bit between the stone wall and fence, how about adding some fencing/bollards and a pile of stones to represent the wall being rebuilt which ties in with the odd temp fencing placed while the wall is rebuilt by railway volunteers!
While it's a nice idea, realistically it's probably not worth it since that section is right behind the main station building. I wanted to make sure there was something there in case anyone gets a weird side view of the station - but for a detailed scene like that I'd rather put the time and effort into a more noticeable area. Thanks for watching 😃
Love the progress you are making especially on such a key module. The details are really making a big difference... I love the footbridge! Great to see this early, a great member benefit
It's definitely all coming together isn't it, so nice not to be staring at those blank baseboards anymore. Really glad you're enjoying the early access... I may have some extra stuff coming for you guys very soon too! Thanks for watching 🤩
Great video! Definitely shows the level of detail you can get whilst modelling a heritage railway, which have been lacking in the model railway scene for some years. Not to mention has definitely inspired some bits for my own layout. Can’t wait to see a “steam gala” on the Modular Layout!
Yes I often feel that "heritage railway" is just an excuse to run anything you want rather than a serious attempt to actually model a preserved line. There's nothing wrong with that of course but I love the subtle mix of old and new you get at heritage railways which isn't really thing anywhere else. Glad to hear it's given you some ideas for you own layout too! Thanks for watching 😃
A recommendation to the platform edge you just did, Add some bollards around it and paint it a darker shade to represent freshly relaid tarmac following a wall repair cased by a minor car or truck accident(or a bit of weather damage!)
It's actually fine since I used the same paint, so it matches the existing surface pretty well. With the fencing on there too its not noticeable at all. Thanks for watching 😃
It's a really nice kit! I was surprised at how easy it was to build and then customise - just needs a few touch ups and a bit of weathering now. Thanks for watching 😃
Yeah it feels perfect for a heritage railway in that livery! So glad I fitted the sound and stay alive to it as well, it's absolutely one of my best runners now. Thanks for watching 😃
Nice video mate. Loving this series! the back half of the station has come up looking fantastic. Looking forward to seeing what you do to the front half for the station. - Nicholas.
Thanks Nicholas, yes the back section looks great and I'm really pleased with how it flows into the yard module too. I've actually already filmed the next video where I do the front half (it's available for Members at the moment) and it's so good to finally have scenic all over the entire module! Thanks for watching 😃
Great video today. I got some real good ideas for a layout. This module is coming along nicely can't wait for next one. Those laser cut fixtures turned out awesome. Thanks for sharing. GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Glad you enjoyed it Lois! While this video focussed on the back of the module, the next one is all about the scenics in front of the railway so there's a lot of pressure to get it right! Thanks for watching 😃
Another absolutely fantastic video 🙌🏻 A couple of questions … so you painted the footbridge yourself? What colours / paints did you use? And the station buildings you have … what are these? Did you buy them / paint them also to match the footbridge? You are the best 🏆
Really glad you enjoyed it! So the bridge was given an overall coat of cheap cream acrylic, then the edges/details were picked out in Humbrol enamel maroon. The main station building is a Hornby Skaledale item which I got ages ago when I thought making the station building (kit or scratchbuilt) would be beyond my capabilities... how things have changed! Thanks for watching 🤩
Just started watching, this looks really good. Point of note regarding Derails, they do not seem interested in overseas modellers so I've not had the pleasure of doing business with them. (TMC, Kernow and of course Rails DO ship overseas.)
Just to clear something up - it's not that Derails aren't interested, they just don't have the ability to ship overseas at this time. Compared to TMC, Kernow and Rails they're a much smaller model shop. Thanks for watching 😃
Great work so far with the scenery on this board! It’s coming along very nice, can’t wait for the next episode! Also, with you naming the station in the next episode and finishing the scenics, is the next episode going to be the series finale? Also, with the midland style fencing and footbridge, as well as the LMS signals and maroon lamps, the layout would look really nice with some LMS locos running in it!
Thanks! It's definitely not the end of the series as there's still a lot to do on the layout to get it ready - including building some new modules! Episode 19 is out now for Members with Episode 20 being worked on at the moment. The plan is to have new episodes in this series coming out regularly right up until the exhibition in September. Thanks for watching 😃
I give them a base coat of a tan/sand coloured acrylic and then mix up some white and black acrylic for the top coat, allowing some of the base to shine through. All just cheap acrylics, nothing fancy. Thanks for watching 😃
This is all looking excellent. Sorry if you’ve mentioned this already but what flexible stone walling is it you use and where do you tend to get it? Thanks. Ian
Hi Ian, there's a link to the stuff I used in the description. However, the quality has really gone downhill lately and the last batch I ordered was mostly unusable😞 I'm exploring other options though so if you're not desperate for it I'd hang on until I can find an alternative that I can recommend - it's just not worth wasting your money at the moment in my opinion. Thanks for watching 👍
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I will hold fire for now. Until now I’ve been using the cat litter method which isn’t too bad. I just thought the one in your video was particularly good. 👍
Hi David, check out Episode 11. I went into full detail on making the platforms there: th-cam.com/video/D3j7Mvn6yt4/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃

No worries, glad to hear you might have a solution with your Small England and great that you want to become a Channel Member too. I've just uploaded two new videos to the Members area about the modular model railway so there's plenty to see! Thanks for watching 😃

That J72 tank engine is gorgeous and graces that lovely station nicely.

Lots of work but it looks very good. So many clever ideas. 😊👍
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it! I'm really pleased with how it's all shaping up. Thanks for watching 😃
The station area is really coming along! With your car park lines, I did something similar, but for tyre marks on concrete. Great minds think alike!
Ah brilliant! That's good to know the technique has multiple uses. Thanks for watching 😃
Looking great!
Thanks, it’s certainly starting to come together now! Thanks for watching 😃

Excellent use of rule number 1 with the fence.
Which bit, I think I used three different cheats with the fencing in this episode alone 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

Looks amazing! Loving the footbridge, but that bright cream might need some weathering from all the loco smoke :)
Thanks Tom! Definitely, the track in the station needs some serious weathering too. Plenty of coal dust and oil needed. Thanks for watching 😃

Great! Edit: oh right, you have the one board right before the tunnel that doesn’t have scenery on it to. I kinda forgot abou that one…
What paint did you use to paint the pavement/sidewalks? I have some leftover plasticard sheets left I was hoping to make them look similar to yours
