It's coming along nicely, Charlie. Don't worry about the shirts. A good modeler has one messy work shirt for every 'going shopping' shirt. A GREAT modeler doesn't even know what a 'going shopping' shirt is!

Further to the references to ones other half: while I was watching today's excellent episode, mine opened an eye from where she was napping on the sofa, and said, 'he's very calming' [as you were in the process of raiding the kitchen utensils] and promptly went back to sleep. Well of course mine's not bothered, I do all the cooking in this house and the kitchen is my domain. That's why I'm three years into planning my layout and still have nothing to show for it but a box of track!

I am the master of my kitchen and I have my own knives that my other half never ever uses. She has a set of knives that she uses on the rare occasions she does the cooking. I was making some hills for my little layout and thought I would use her carving knife, after all I have plenty of time to finish the job, wash and return the knife, the perfect crime. After the initial section my wife decided that she wanted a new chicken run and patio so my layout went onto the back burner. Fast forward a couple of months and we decide to clear out some of the junk our daughter had put in the garage. One problem, I had forgotten about the knife and as we cleared a work table, my wife spotted the offending item and I had some fast talking to do!

How about doing something on signalling, especially shunt signals and the black art of understanding them. You could also include the automation of either colour lights/semaphores as the trains pass them.

The hillside looks great 👍, love the attention to detail. As for suggestions for vids twofold I'm quiet interested in the wiring aspect for the point motors on the new section in particular the power supply you use and connecting everything up to I assume bus wires that go around the whole layout?
Secondly I've been racking my brains at how to turn around a train locomotive, do you use a turnstile? Shunter? Or a custom section of track? And can it be automated in a dcc layout?

    • @ChadwickModelRailway

Hi Charlie - a great job with the rock/cliff face. I found that by inserting a couple of 1.5inch galvanised nails, head first into the drying plaster, when set, I could push the nails into the foam, which then held the rock face in position. This enabled the various piece to be positioned if various positions before the No Nails (in my case) held the rock face in it's final position.

Have been thinking of getting back into the model trains (modelling the Philippines) and have found this video hugely inspiring.
Going to watch more of your stuff now.
    Thanks.

Great kitchen skills Charlie, just make sure you don't get your rocks mixed up with the rock cakes by 'er in doors... LOL. At least if I come around for tea and the bums are a bit gritty I will know you've been using the shive again. Your defiantly a man of many talents. I wee tip I recently heard about is if you have anything stuck down with a hot glue gun and it is set. If you need to remove the glued item to another place or fix a wrongly placed or broken item. Then dab neat IPA around the edge of the glue and give it a few seconds to work its way under. The IPA will eventually separate the glue from the surface it is stuck down on. It is a good way to release and reuse objects without forcing them up with paint scrapers and damaging the items. Though I don't know if it works on all surface types.

@@ChadwickModelRailway could you recommend a good scatter grass to sieve as you did in video? Only small patch so don't want to spend on a static grass applicator.
