  • My music teacher colleague Diego Cardini was kind enough to write this post for Key-Notes. Rhythm is something most piano learners struggle with, and percussionists are experts at rhythm, so who better to ask for exercises to help piano students develop their rhythmic skills? Here are five exercises and tips for developing your rhythmic ability at the piano.

hmm... i think i'll attempt incorporating this into some kind of exercise. i play scales, one octave right hand playing triplets against the left, so the right goes up and down 3 times for every one time in the left and then switch for the next set. then move up a tone for the next scale. the left doing triplets smoothly were a little challenging early on. that's why i kept doing it.

Hehe. An exercise in humour trying to get my right hand to tap slowly while left taps fast. Good for the soul and rhythm thanks Albert

The exercises are deceptively tricky! We have Diego Cardini (www.thedrumninja.com) to thank for them.

I wish you taught this at a slower tempo. Helps when first learning. I enjoyed your lesson!

Happy to take this into account for the next videos! In the meantime, you can use TH-cam’s video speed feature to slow down the video as needed. Hope this helps!
