I was feeling so discouraged today with my painting. This is exactly what I needed! Thank you for breaking it down in simple terms. You are a phenomenal teacher! Please do more tutorials like this. I am your fan for life.
Very helpful advise about using different techniques in a landscape. I have been taking a summer watercolor class and this week's lesson was on depth. I am a 75 year old beginner and by my third iteration I finally figured out how to use wet on wet for soft background edges, wet on dry for middle ground and foreground, and how to use scale and chroma to define distance. What a fun hobby!
This is such a lovely painting, and, as a beginner, I really appreciate the clear explanation of what techniques to use when. I would love more videos in this vein. Thank you! 🩵🖼️🩵
Absolutely loved this! This is exactly what I have been wanting to learn... How to approach painting a photograph. Bonus that it was a sunset, had trees and water!! This might be my favorite video second to all of your floral, because you reign supreme as the "floral queen" in my book!
Really enjoyed your painting, especially seeing you put it together little by little. It really looked like a photograph when you were done. Thank you for creativity sharing your
Fantastic video! It is packed with info yet does not overwhelm because of how well it is presented. This is one that is worth several viewings. Thank you !
Thanks for this great and very useful tutorial 😊 After starting watercolor 5 years ago with, I still try to figure out how to combine this illustration style and realistic style and you gave great tips. Maybe IF you would have time 😊 it would be a nice idea to make a tutorial with both techniques based on the same reference picture 😊
Dear Emma, thank you so much, this was really helpful! I am really pleased with my result, you are a brilliant teacher. Greetings from Germany, Barbara ❤
Emma you are an EXCELLENT tutor. You are so clear and I have enjoyed your lessons for a long time and have learnt so much. Thank you for sharing your talents and techniques! You’re a star!🌟
I like how simple you broke the tutorial down! I am for anything. Learning is fun and more so to be able to apply what you are taught and t o see your own accomplishments!
Thank you so much Emma for sharing your talent with us here on Utube , I can not see my other favorite artist because to see her I need to join the chanel and there is a fee, not much but still, I can not afford that. I love how you do your tutorials and all you share with us, thank you, thank you, thank you, God Bless.💜
Very very helpful. Your intro perfectly described the scenario for beginners who have done tutorials but are ready to tackle something on their own. I love the way you broke it all down step by step as to why you would use a certain technique. Thank you very much!
Awesome very helpful, lots of info that you can use today! Very helpful that you take us through the steps & decision making. It would be great to see more videos on this with landscape/ flower photos. Thanks
That turned out lovely!! 🥰 Even Bob Ross started with the backgrounds!! 🤗 It is an important tool for painting landscapes. He actually took a lot of time on his background. I would love the background and be sad when he started painting his mountains!! 😂 I love the beauty of the sky! 🌤 It has so many emotions!! 🌠 A good sunrise or sunset is always a win in my book!! 🌅
This tutorial was awesome & very insightful. There are many times when I question myself as to which watercolor technique I should use to get my painting just right. It does get vey stressful since I'm my own judge & jury😂. Thank you for sharing your watercolor knowledge. You are definitely one of my favorite artists that inspires me 😍
Thanks Emma! Landscapes are my favourite, but sometimes intimidating and difficult not to get lost in the details. My last box arrived yesterday, with a similar landscape. Can't wait to get started...
I cannot stress how useful this was! I love painting landscapes but I struggle with it. Yours looked so pretty I could stare at it for hours 😊 I would love to see more videos like this 😊
Thanks for breaking down the techniques Emma. Can you also do a video on how you decide which medium you want to use, like watercolour or gouache or acrylics
Thank you so much for this. You clarified so much for me by explaining and demonstrating! I have a lot of practicing to do, but I had despaired of ever doing a sunset painting.
This is a great video. So much great information. I felt like this landscape came to life when you painted those trees. If I could ever paint near this great I would consider myself a pro.😄 I'm still a beginner. Thanks for this.
I could watch your tutorials for hours! Your explanations are so helpful to me, a beginner. It is really rewarding to have a project come out recognizable! Thank you for sharing your talents.
Hey, Ive been doing this for a while, but it is so good to hear your technique to bring it all together for me!! Plus I love doing landscapes!!! Thanks
Excellent video. I experienced several AH HA moments as I painted along with you. I've learned a bit more about controlling the amount of water, which has been a bane in my art adventure. Thank you.
You have so much talent and are gifted in teaching others in a positive, light-hearted way. I've been watching for a few years & finally jumped in last year but my art is pitiful. Watercolor is the last medium for me to learn and one I've longed to learn for about 55 years. I better get crackin' since 10 yrs older than that ^^ number 😀
You broke this down so well and it's so pretty! I think that I just might have to give it a try. It will be my first time painting a landscape with water and with this tutorial I think it have some resemblance of yours. At least one of the trees might anyway, lol😅😅
What a beautiful piece! I love your explanations for when to use techniques. You usually explain in your videos what you're doing as you're doing it but it was nice having a video concentrated on it. Thank you so much for the video; your videos inspired me to try out watercolors and I am loving it.
Really enjoyed this. Just starting out with watercolor and you have taught me the leaves and flower strokes, now here we go with landscapes. I got frustrated, because I upgraded my paint and paper, and now it seems I have to relearn the water ratio thing again. So helpful painting along with you as you clearly explain what is happening. Still, my brain knows what it wants, but the hand with the brush in it keeps resisting! Would love to see more "blue sky" cloud formations. The white fluffy ones.
This is a nice technique instruction and your dry brush on water waves is impressive. Water is only partially reflective though, so your washs for the lake (22 minutes in) should be a smidge darker than the sky.
Winston Salem, NC, USA. Wonderful instructions. 2 wk old newbies we love your videos

I love how you layered the water going light to dark instead of adding highlights to darkened areas!
This helps even more than you could possibly imagine, especially with the water and the sky. Thank you!

This is fantastic - thank you so much. I just tried to do a landscape from a photo and now I will redo it with your guidance.
