Well I think it’s awesome ‼️But then again I am a Rail Fan and will budget and plan to build this Trip . MTH Electric Trains have cataloged this Rocky Mountaineer as an O Gaige Set many times so I hope Lionel Models this Set to commemorate the inaugural run . Always loved this train and so excited to see it run here in the US . Congratulations 🎈🎉🎊🍾 to those that got to go on the inaugural run ‼️

Amtrak California Zephyr Denver to glenwood cheap alternative.. about $80 one way per person... get a hotel in g wood then take the train back to Denver .
Weekend for two in glenwood for half the price ... around $600
But you gotta ride on a train with some not so rich people 😂

Most of route except the short branch to Moab you can do on the California Zephyr, much cheaper, and even if you planned a stopover at Glenwood its still cheaper and you dont get stuck with rich snobs

The Union Pacific charged more than that for the inaugural run of the 4014 Big Boy....(the worlds largest steam locomotive) after they got it running.
They cant take it over the Denver to Salt Lake division, (Amtrak route) its too long for the curves, although the old Denver and Salt Lake (Rio Grande) ran slightly smaller articulated Mallet steam locomotives over those tracks.

Rocky Mountaineer double decker Ultra Domes, bigger than Amtrak's Superliners, won't run on this route because too tall for the tunnels. So settle for single level cars.
Ps, RTD won't let Rocky Mountaineer use Denver Union Station so it uses a freight facility.

One of the factors that made me choose this for a train excursion is that the RM keeps it's windows clean, unlike Amtrak. Misleading. Other than a rail running south on the west side of Hwy 191 from I-70 (ultimately leading to the potash factory, and last I knew; exclusively used by the potash company); the closest rail (Amtrak) is 50 miles away in Green River near I70. Perhaps the train will be able to run as far south as the Canyonlands Field airport (along Hwy 191 and several miles north of Arches Nat Park) once agreements are made. Even if this company gets the proper rights to travel the track towards Moab along Hwy 191 you will NOT see anything of interest in Moab along this rail line without getting off the train and renting a vehicle.
