Whoa Nelley, 1975 and soon to not be alive. Ah, one of my favorites again....not. LOL.
We got the VIN, we win: 5 for 1975 model year, J for Los Angeles, CA assembly, 63 for LTD four door pillar hardtop, S for 400 CID V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The Los Angeles, CA plant was also called the Pico Rivera plant and closed in 1980. It was located at 8820 Washington Blvd. The 400 V8 was a sloppy engine, so you were 0 for 3 on this one: A Ford product, with a sloppy 400 and made in California by a workforce that was either drunk or high as a kite most times. It was doomed from the start.
We got the tag, we can brag: 53H for Ford LTD four door pillar hardtop, possible 5T for Saddle Bronze exterior paint (hard to make out), EU for Tan interior trim, U for C-6 automatic transmission, 5 for 3.07:1 rear axle ratio, non-locking, and 57 for Houston, TX sales district. The rest of the numbers after the "57" are the order number for the vehicle. Correct, "GM" is right to say. Frigidaire was part of GM until 1979, so yes, Ford was buying parts from their competitor. The AC compressor is one of the few good parts on this vehicle.
Whoa Nelley, LTD it was never for me. That's it, time to quit. Motorcraft always needed a life raft (or a tow truck). "Motorcrap" was never worth jack. Going to be flat and that's that. 400 VIN code "S" was always a mess. Floppy and sloppy, this one was always a jalopy. Thank goodness it's going to get squished, because it's nearly 50 years too late, and no one was even the slightest bit pissed.

You are a good man Benny for putting those parts inside the car in case somebody needs them. The car is beyond saving but someone could use the parts off it. New vehicles are out of price for us working class folks. You always bring back good old memories. Thank you brother.

I bought this same exact model, color, interior ,everything as a beater in 1989 from a dealer I worked for. We worked late one night and I ordered new studded snow tires to be installed. When they pulled the car in to install, the snow was flying. I left an hour later and had an hour drive home. Within 7 min from home , a driver decided pass me on a curve. I turned right to avoid him and the snow pulled me right into a utility pole at 25 mph. It was totaled and I was wearing my seat belt. I liked the two weeks I had with it though!

I have to be honest with you I had a 91. Crown Victoria police car with the 351 5.8L. It was truly a good interceptor but nothing off the line. However I gave the car away with 300,000 mi. It still ran great.

Parents had a Dk Blue & White one from 1975-85. 4dr with a 400 just like this one. Was actually a pretty good car. (I mean, they 'did' keep it 10 yrs....and went 'across the water' with our Military Family twice?) Many commented about the 400 engine, which is a bit of an oddball,in as it's considered a 'small block'.....but has the 'big block' Fords bellhousing patterns & motor mounts??? It also has heads not too unlike the 'Cleveland' design. These IIRC were meant to replace the 390 in big cars. Made to produce low end torque to pull around 4400 lbs of LTD, Wagon or Pickup. The shortcomings?? Oh,it sure has them, and you can thank the bean counters & EPA for many of them??? 400 Cubes, that sounds like it should really crank out the power, right?? Not Stock out of the box,it has a wheezing little 2bbl on it (no 4bbl option) and single pipes (only LTD's I've seen with Duals of this era were 460s,and even those I think were special ordered?) plus it's very early Smog System (lots of needless vacuum lines, relays & switches) and that first year 'Tater in the Tailpipe' Catalytic Converter. They put out like 175 HP stock. Back in '77 when we took it over to Germany the first time, (It went twice between 1977-83) we had the converter removed (no unleaded fuel in Europe back then?) and with the help of a longtime friend of my Grandfather (This guy worked at a local Ford dealer from 1939-92!!) told my Father (This guy actually helped,we were visiting on leave before going over?) just what & which things to remove, bypass or modify with the smog stuff. (As he told us 'It always just seems to quit working and cause other problems anyway?' As I found out later when I became a 'Wrench',that early smog junk was also really good at making you burn valves?) It did seem to run better this way (Well,as 'better' as it could with what little we really did....more later?) and got better MPG,too! Another problem these mid '70s FoMoCo's had: Oil Pumps. Someone got the bright idea to use as OEM an oil pump with steel gears, but in an aluminum pump body. Guess what happens over a few years of use? You guessed it....the gears wear out the body? Then you get weak oil pressure. Luckily by then, it was a known issue (to some....like a certain 'Auto Shop' Geek son of his who had his nose in Car Magazines all the time!!) & like the timing gears on 'my' Oldsmobiles later (Plastic Teeth on a soft 'potmetal' cam gear, same issue....premature wear?) the service parts had a Cast Iron pump body. If you caught it in time (we did) it doesn't ruin the engine? And remember what I said about those heads? Those Heads could've given it great potential.....were it not for that flat broomstick they used as a Cam!!!! If they'd just had a better cam,a 4bbl option w/a decent carb (Not those Motorcraft/Autolite ones they used at the time....think 650 Holley or even a 750?) and Duals the lowly 400 might've gotten a bit of respect???? Oddly enough, the main reason the car got traded off? Couple years after Dad retired from the Army, he got the Buick for my Mom that she had always wanted....and man,it was a Turkey!!! And I actually wanted to buy it, (The LTD....because "I Had Ideas" I wanted to prove.....Yes, more Cam,Carb & Duals......and by then was working on cars for a living!) but they'd traded it out from under me.....Later Dad said he'd kind of wished he'd just gave it to me instead 'Just to see if you really were Right'??

L👀K HERE: >>>> You overlooked the most important thing the Ford LTD offered in 1974-75 standard equip. in the big block FE engine cars, and if it was special ordered with the Windsor engine, you could get A disc brake rear axle in these cars VERY popular with the drag race guys, they pay big money for one I hope you didn't crush it with that disc brake rear end in it. P.S. not all of them had it.....
