      Agree. They were very nice cars back in 1979. Sad how they end up today rust buckets run thru in the savage yard.

    Something to be said for these late 70s Luxo-liners. The number of Discos and poon-tang this street barge might have saw back in the day. I remember seeing quite a few of these land yachts still roaming the streets in the 80s... now, rarely at all.

    Your title says 1978 model year, but this is a 1979 model year vehicle. No VIN, can't win, but easy to figure out, no doubt: 9 for 1979 model year, Y for Wixom, MI assembly, 89 for Lincoln Mark V, S for 400 V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The Wixom, MI plant operated from 1957 to 2007. The 400 V8 was a slow, sloppy junker of an engine, hampered by a wheezy two barrel carburetor. 1978 was the last year for the 460 V8 for passenger car use.
    No tag, can't brag, but this is likely code 2M Dark Red exterior paint.

    • @NathansMoparGarage

      I guess I missed the tag on this one but I think it had a 9/78 or 10/78 build date so it kinda falls into the gray area for the model year.

    • @googleusergp

      @@NathansMoparGarage 9/78 or 10/78 would typically be a 1979 model year, plus the under hood emission label on the engine said 1979 model year.

    In the late 70s the goverment mandated 5mph bumpers...why so many cars got uglier and heavier.. With oil shocks to absorb the impacts.... Government should stay out of building cars...they can't even build a toilet right 😂... Still a great car to restore.

    • @NathansMoparGarage

      Yeah that bumper is way out there.

    • @googleusergp

      It was in the earlier 1970s for the 5 MPH requirement, but yes they were in full swing by 1979.

    • @LongIslandMopars

      My 74 Charger has the bumpers that stick out from the body with the gray plastic filler strips and big solid rubber bumper guards. I don't think anything is on a shock; those bumper brackets look like they are solidly mounted.

    • @googleusergp

      @@LongIslandMopars Yup, I want to say it started around 1973 on some models and was in full swing by 1974. That's why on some Chryslers, people go back to the "nice" bumpers versus the "ugly ones" such as putting the early Barracuda bumpers on the later models.

    • @LongIslandMopars

      @@googleusergp Correct. 73 and 74 are the same. I have a 73 Barracuda bumper in my garage that I bought for my cousin at a swap meet years ago. Has the bumper guards and steel crash beam insert which the repops don't. He wound up getting a repop and I'm stuck with the bumper. It's for sale if you know anyone....😁
