Excellent cover. I met Steve Clark briefly 30 years ago on Broadway in Manhattan. Great guy and no ego. As far as Gods of War, I think his unique style of playing shines through here. The opening riff and outro are off the chain but the song itself is a masterpiece.
Still get a kick seeing you do these tunes! 63 and have a Fender Blues Jr.,Vox effects board and a Stray and and still get excited anytime I can learn something and get close to the intended sound!
This gives me a new way to listen to Def. It's inspiring too. Wish I could do that. Id play all day long! Keep em coming man. (Request for Beautiful?) ;)
Thanks! This video is quite a few years old now but I did a version last year, just focusing on Steve’s parts, which I think is a little more accurate.
@@bwm5150 I will watch. Love all your shit. Amazing guitarist. Def Leppard, Skidrow, Outfield. I'm an 80s-90s metal guy. Love all the hair band shit. Keep posting 🤘🎸
Hey Ben, Just a quick question... after reading your comments. As you keep listening to stuff from Steve, live or otherwise, do you find that when you say you play things a bit different now to how you used to, do you mean that you play the parts more like how you think Steve played them? I'm just wanting to know this because as I watch your work on the videos... I kind of like to hope I'm seeing as close to the "correct" (or Steve Clark) way of playing them as possible? Thanks :)
+ClarkOVision Mostly yeah. When it comes to live stuff especially I like to keep an eye on hand positions and follow suit and sometimes you can hear tonal differences like with riffs using open strings etc. I also sometimes play things differently for comfort reasons or just for the sake of it. Like on the solo, I do a bend where Steve does a slide as it's not comfortable for me that far up the neck to do while sitting down. But for most of the time I try and stay as close, especially with live stuff.
Okay cool. However, you'll have to start standing up then! I wanna see the Steve Clark slide... lol Just kidding. I thought you did try to copy Steve's exact playing where possible which is great because that's how/what I want to see. Thanks Ben.
Seems like I read that Sav actually wrote the ending part with the acoustic, they also were given a distortion pedal from Brian May during the Hysteria recordings.
Could be. I would have to look. I have a biography book about the band called "safety net", I don't think it's totally accurate about some things. The claim the master tapes were on board Pan Am went it blew up in Lockerbie.
I've heard that before about Lockerbie with the Rocket mastertapes. I mention The Animal Instinct book as I've not read it so I imagine there are maybe some little factoids I've missed from it.I've read a few times in recent online stuff that it was pretty much all Steve bar the first pre chorus. Would be great to know for sure.
Awesome I watch your videos a lot. quick question what is the first note you hit to begin this song, I've watched to try to see but I didn't see you hit or play a string
How long have you been playing? And for some reason my pinky finger seems to be really weak, will it take me time to get comfortable on the fret board?
13 years now maybe. Yeah the pinky, and really all your fingers, will take time to get used to things they haven't done before. A lot of playing is about muscle memory.
Thank you so much for responding, wow 13 years, I can see those years have def payed off since you play so well. I'm a drummer and have play them for 17 years, but have picked up the guitar just recently, around last Christmas, so I guess I'm a year of experience, I think I'm moving along nicely, but still get aggravated when my finger will not work on the fret board the way I want them to. I guess I'll just keep playing and see what happens, I hope to play as well as you do.
Not really accurate answer :) Measure them :D ...it might be the neck of your guitar as well - would you tell me which one is it ?. Anyway Im so impolite and was so excited about your playing that I totally forget to mention that you rock. Your videos are great. Thanks for the great things you do and thanks for the great taste in music you have. Looking forward to see more .....Cheers
+killerchimp12 Def Leppard used loads of stuff on Hysteria. They had a ton of gadgets and were into all the latest stuff at the time (1984-87). Including Rockman's, yes, indeed Gallien Kruegers, Fosstex, Steve used Boss Chorus, & Delay and a Morley Pre-amp as his tour effects. Randall stuff. Basically on the album it's anybody's guess what exact bit of equipment was used for an exact part. Not to mention that they used a wide selection of guitars...not just Jacksons and Gibsons.

heroe
Thank you so much . You rock 🤘🏻🕶🤘🏻
One of, if not THE greatest Def Leppard song of all time! Great job!
Easily my favorite Def Lep song. The atmosphere this song creates is incredible and missing from so much music today.
Hey Steve, I hope you can hear this from Heaven! Get your guitar out and jam with this dude!
Beautiful!

Thanks for sharing Joshua. :)

Whilst not a fan of the band myself, they did create some awsome guitar parts
This is so awesome! I saw them perform this live during the same tour in '88 and it was the highlight of my night! Excellent job!
2:41 Steve and Phil’s magic 🔥🔥🔥🔥 also masterfully played!!!!
Absolutely crazy good! Love how you can switch from lead to rhythym so effortlessly.
I love this stuff man! Mater piece and great job!
Wow! Well done you, that was fabulous,.... I really enjoyed that!
You are a fantastic guitarist,.... how I wish I could play like you,.. thank you
The best song from Hysteria!! Congratulations!!
You did an amazing job right here
Wow thought this was fake but realized it wasn’t..! 1 of my favourite songs all time and u did it justice man.. Good for you 👌🏻
Could listen to you play Def Leppard all the time! A little fact, I killed more Hysteria cassette tapes back in the day, than I can remember.
I love how live they have Steve open up the song, such epic guitar work, great work on this man,
Steve IS the riff master!
Your Def Leppard cover's are quickly becoming my favorite cover's on youtube!!
Ha ha, cheers! :)
your 4 y.o. version was spectacular, this one blew me away!

I think this is the best outro in history
That was BRILLIANT! I really enjoyed it. Keep it up

Been waiting for this. You are nailing it. Great song. 👍

Superb as always!
you still did a great job in his honor awesome
another killer guitar cover...damn you nailed it ..nice skills man
Cheers Robert!
You are simply the best guitarist everrrr
Soooooo awesome!
As a guitarist myself I know that last transition was not easy to do, Kudoes man!
I love the technique you used to play that note at 0:50...I have small hands so that'll be very helpful haha
AstroAddy10 that’s how Phil would do it
That was awesome
Fantastic!!!
I want to get you a longer headphone cord brother. You nailed it my dude. You deserve me to give you a better quality of life, as you did for me.
My headphone cable is really long but I keep it taut like that so it doesn’t get in the way.
bwm5150 You know you want to dance around and perform. Finish your rock journey. Long cord this setup and let’s do this.
Fricking Amazing..!!
Nice one buddy!
Love that grunty 5150 sound. 120 Watt Amp? I just realised James Watt was a Scotsman.
I'm using a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 going direct. No amp. The 5150 refers to the Van Halen album for me. :)
EPIC DUDE !!!
Nice playing mate 👌
You nailed it Bro ! Greetings
+Cool-Alex01-_ - Cheers bro!
Hell yeah! Couldn't have done it any better.
Cheers Dominic! :)
Simply WOW!!!! :-O
Jackson is my new favorite guitar.
Anyone know why they removed the live performance at the round off TH-cam? It was the best live version and quality. Great cover btw. Love the tone
This was blocked for a little while but is back so hopefully the other vids will be back soon. Cheers!
duuuuuuuuude i was thinking the same thing. Feels so good someone else on this planet cares about the same things as I do.
Out Fucking Standing. Just superb.
+Scott Neary Cheers Scott!
I really enjoyed it. Waves
Good Work Mate ¡¡¡¡

I've heard that before about May but not about Sav although that wouldn't surprise me too much. Do you remember where you read that?
No, not right off hand. Maybe it was the classic album episode of Hysteria.
I don't think it's mentioned in the Classic Albums program. What about the Animal Instinct book?
Could be. I would have to look. I have a biography book about the band called "safety net", I don't think it's totally accurate about some things. The claim the master tapes were on board Pan Am went it blew up in Lockerbie.

Yes sir
Nailed it, good job. what is your tone chain for this song?
Cheers! BossMe50 into Palmer Pdi09.
nice jackson
bwm5150, what kind of bridge pickup do you have in your Jackson? You nail the Leppard tone to a t.
It's the stock Duncan Designed pickup that came with the guitar. I don't know the exact model.
Could you show how do you get your Leppard tone?? Great cover!!!
🙌🙌🔥🔥🍻💯
Awesome I watch your videos a lot. quick question what is the first note you hit to begin this song, I've watched to try to see but I didn't see you hit or play a string
4th fret of the A string. You could also hit the harmonic there.
do you think you can do a tutorial on steves solo before gods of war
th-cam.com/video/RAkQyjZ9qps/w-d-xo.html and there's a tab for it on my Facebook page also.
great cover ! how did u achieve the guitar sound ? distortion pedal ? what tone settings on guitar / amp ?
Thanks! I use a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09.
@@bwm5150 cool ! what effects do u have on the boss? distortion, chorus, etc ....
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I hear Vivian makes some mistakes on this song. Anyone know which part it is?

Fantastic tone...what amp are you using?
Thanks! I use a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09. I skip the amp part. :)
What are the strings you're using for the end?
Kevin McCloud There’s a link to a tab I made in the top comment of the vid.
what kind of guitar? stratocaster?
Jackson Dk2 Dinky
What size strings do you use
+Colin Chretien I like them light so I use 9s.
😉👌👌👌
epic
Cheers John!
What is your guitar setup? Pedals/Amp, etc?
Boss ME50 -> Palmer Pdi-09
+bwm5150 thanks! Dude it sounds great! I've watched a ton of your videos, they're sick! 🔥🔥
+bwm5150 I'm a Def Lep enthusiast as well
How long are your fingers?. They seem very long.
Ha ha, never really thought about that. I think I've seen longer.

which processor do you use
Boss Me50
what do you suggest about me 25
Do you use a Rockman?
+killerchimp12 I don't. I used to have an old Rockman which was great for rhythm tones but lacked in the lead department.
+bwm5150 what did def leppard use for their solos on hysteria?
+killerchimp12 I couldn't say for sure but I have read they also used Gallien Krueger amps and that their Rockmans were heavily modified.
+bwm5150 I don't get why everything has to be modified lol but thx for responding. I've learned a lot of def leppard from watching your videos!

So what the hell we fightin for?? To hear BWM play in more!!! U can run but u can't hide.....
Damn maybe you should give vivian lessons. He said he still can get this right.
Anyone who down voted this better be able to play it better
Bad ass !!!! Vivian Campbell should be fired and replaced by you !!!
Can't work.....Phil Collen doesnt want another lead guitar haha !!

One thing you CANT say about Def Leppard is they were bad song writers...jesus
