Great vlog Ruan and so much fun to see your whole process and all your different outfits from day to day. Congratulations on the Felicity offer. Thank you for sharing your days with us. xxKaren
Your Florence top is gorgeous and so well planned out. I've put off making it just for the issues you mentioned, length, sizing, shoulder room, and for me fabric choice. I think the viscose works great and you have given me the courage to go for it. Thanks for the video!
I absolutely love this top and looks just great on you. With regard to sewing the peplum upside down, if it had been a more structured fabric it probably would have been more noticeable. Looking at the pattern in the structure fabric it doesn't inspire me to want to make one. However, in the more flimsy fabric it it lovely and swishy. Plus great for Christmas Day when stuffing all the goodies. Take care and love all your vlogs 😊😊
I really like your Florence top. It’s a pattern I’ve dismissed as saw it made in a cotton which was far too structured for my taste. The way you chose the sizing was helpful and your button choices were all👌🏻I liked seeing your cutting table and sticking your pdf together, something I’ve avoided at all costs. I’m very tempted to get this pattern now
I know it’s silly but after watching this video I used the magic buttonhole function on my machine this evening- perfect. Only had this machine about 8 years. What am I like?! Thank you Ruan. Great top by the way.
Hello! I was just sitting down for breakfast and checked out TH-cam and there you are 😄. I love your sewing process. I take my time and go through a checklist and a toile. Yep, I’m one of those people. I’m really slow and just don’t have the confidence that you do. I just love your fabric. It’s beautiful and the top is amazing on you 😊. Thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
That top looks lovely on you! I’m on my third attempt of this top. First attempt similar to you I found it poked out at the back neckline (a lot more than yours) and was too cropped for my personal taste (I’m “thick set” round the middle or as I prefer to call it a “relaxed” rectangle body shape 😂). Attempt 2 I did a high round back and forward shoulder adjustments and lengthened the bodice by 2 inches (I’m only 5 ft 2). This fit was perfect but I didn’t like the way it looked on me, possibly the wrong fabric choice (I have a big chest which made it stick out!) but I love this design so much I’m giving it one final attempt with a viscose linen 🤞 like your fabric choice and the buttons are divine!
Hello lovely Ruan. Love that top on you. Glad it’s not just me who sews things on the wrong way! 😊. Had the great pleasure of meeting Tamlyn last week whilst fabric shopping at 1st for Fabrics. Hope you all had a great weekend in Glasgow. x
I am a bit late with my comment (seeing you have finished it) with the proble m of size isn't that what a toile is for. Love your channel and your sense of humour. You are so funny. I live in Australia but always follow you and Rachel and Angela. Love you heaps. You make me happy😅
Loved your vlog and top your tempting me to give it a go!! about buttons I was like you always hand stitched then onto placket , but I bit the bullet and used my machine to stitch them on and never looked back !!!
Gorgeous top Ruan 😍👌💖. I made one quite a while ago in a small polkadot viscose and forgot about it, so you've reminded me that I have it 🙏. Gorgeous fabric from Falicity Fabrics too 💖💖💖
OMG!!! I thought you were dead or something!!! 💀💀💀 I'm sure you were super busy with all that you do! Welcome back! Love the top and fabric. I'm similar in size to you and it is such a headache to figure out my size in an oversized top. I'm bigger in bust and boxy works best!
Nice fabric. But wow, your hair is so gorgeous. You're really really pretty. I've no clue about sewing at all but I'm gonna subscribe and maybe I'll learn something xx🩷
I really enjoyed this video Ruan! Especially seeing your process, and it was so reassuring that we all clearly go through the different dilemmas, especially with regard the sizing! The top and fabric are both super x
I love that. I didn't like the pattern when I looked at the line drawings, but that looks super. I have narrow shoulders but really wide hips, so i think that would be great.
Great video Ruan. Was very interesting to hear your rumination’s re the sizing. I made this a couple of years ago in an Indian block print cotton. I’ve just been upstairs to check what size I made and it’s a 10 which is 2 sizes down from the size I come out at on the envelope. It’s always been a tad tight across the chest although it’s still wearable as long as I don’t want to start doing any weight lifting 😝. I’m going to make another now I’ve seen your lovely one……. in a 14!!!!!
Great vlog lovely top . Would you consider doing a tutorial on button holes you do that with such confidence . I have the same machine and not game to do a button hole 🇦🇺💗
I have been looking at this top for ages! I have the pattern in my stash but always been unsure if the oversized-ness of it would suit me, but I just love your version so I think I may just have to give it a go ❤
The fabric and pattern look lovely on you. Your rundown on the size was really helpful - I go through exactly the same dilemmas every time I make an oversize style. I just acquired some vintage 70s silk chiffon at Yarndale and was going to make a Raida blouse by Madswick patterns but am now thinking that this pattern would bring the fabric into the 21st century. Hmmmm!
I like you❤I follow your blogs... your a realist.. now I just want to know if you used a gathering foot for the sewing machine or by hand or sew in a loose thread to pull gather
Thanks for taking us along with you in your process, the dilemma over sizing has resulted in a pair of shorts too big and a shirt dress barely fitting! 😮 although to be fare the dress was a wearable toile, so I’ll know for next time. 🍓🧶🌈💙
Hi Ruan, I’m just rewatching as I’m finally getting around to sewing the Florence top. I’ve been meaning to ask, where did you get your large cutting mat from, and is it made to measure?
I would just do the back without the buttons and split etc. but do the neckline at the front in a scooped style. This way avoiding all the extra work and expense of buttons etc.
I’ve got long hair, so back buttons always get caught up in it. Nothing like trying to turn your head and getting caught. So doing the no buttons version would be perfect!
You did a lovely job there, suits you heaps !! Also, can I please ask you about the white peg board type things on your wall ? Do they have a brand name at all and how do they attach to your wall ? I live in Australia so not sure how I can find them here, but would love to try and see if I can....thanks so much, I only just found you and have subscribed....
Great top, great fabric, great video! Did you need the buttons, or could you just sew them on without buttonholes? I think I might make this top, but still nervous with buttonholes :)
Eh up chuck it’s turned out a reet bobby dazzler 🥰 I’ve got a Florence I love how you’ve lengthened the peplum on yours. It takes me more time to decide what flippin size to make than it does to sew it 😂😂.
Your size adjustments sound terribly complicated. This is what I do, if say their bust body measurement is 43 inches and I am 44 inches, I just add a quarter inch to each side of the front and back. Baste sides together and try on. We are almost the exact same size!
Ooh that’s lovely I might have to get that pattern, definitely my style, thanks for sharing Ruan xxx
Love the top on you Ruan, and the fabric is perfect!
Great vlog Ruan and so much fun to see your whole process and all your different outfits from day to day. Congratulations on the Felicity offer. Thank you for sharing your days with us. xxKaren
… looks fantastic Ruan 👌🏼👌🏼💙💙.. I agree don’t rock the boat this fit is perfect on you … hugs darling xo 💙💙💙
Nice to see you again. Oh definitely sew buttons on by machine. Easy peasy . Love the top

Really enjoyed this vlog and it's reassuring to know that the way I go about sewing isn't as disjointed as I thought. Thankyou x
Beautiful, the fabric, the pattern and the sewing! I can see why you’re going to make another.
Love it
Love that fabric!
What a cute top! The fabric is lovely. Thank you for sharing.
It's lovely, it looks so good on you 😊

Great vlog Ruan, nice top. It's also good to see you using your new cutting table 😎 x
Gorgeous top and a very informative review ❤
I know it’s silly but after watching this video I used the magic buttonhole function on my machine this evening- perfect. Only had this machine about 8 years. What am I like?! Thank you Ruan. Great top by the way.
Yay!!! This comment made me so happy!! 👏🏻

Great choice of fabric and darling top. It looks gorgeous on you.

Totally different subject, but can i just say how lovely your hair is. It looks so healthy and shiny and the style really suits you x
Thank you so much 😊

Great vlog and beautiful top. You look gawgus ❤
As I watch your video I am wearing a top in this fabric in a blush pink background version!!
Very nice top! As far as sewing the peplum in upside down, if you don't tell, I won't tell either! Mums the word. 😉
A beautiful make and an excellent review, thank you Ruan, 😊
I need that fabric in my life ❤ its gorgeous x
Great vlog very good information on sizing. Love the fabric and pattern ❤️
Gorgeous top ,suits you to a "t" Ruan ,thank you for sharing 🤩

The red buttons are lovely!
nice! I made the florence dress with big chunky pink buttons on the back. it's been one of my favourite summer garments this year.
Loved your vlog and top your tempting me to give it a go!!
about buttons I was like you always hand stitched then onto placket , but I bit the bullet and used my machine to stitch them on and never looked back !!!
Love the top x
The fabric is so lovely. Great make ❤

That's a gorgeous top and fabulous fabric! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and process.
Well, if you put it in upside down, it's still a nice cute top! You did a great job.
What a gorgeous top! It really suits you. I enjoyed seeing your process and hearing your thoughts
That’s really nice. I think the oversize is exactly as the pattern image.
OMG!!! I thought you were dead or something!!! 💀💀💀 I'm sure you were super busy with all that you do! Welcome back!

Love your top!
Very pretty!
It’s lovely , I prefer this pattern with a longer peplum , I’ve a chunky middle 😂 and like to hide it
I have been looking at this top for ages! I have the pattern in my stash but always been unsure if the oversized-ness of it would suit me, but I just love your version so I think I may just have to give it a go ❤
Beautiful top!

Holding your breath while doing your button holes until you almost pass out 😂😂😂😂😂 Same!!
Thank you for sharing❤❤❤
You are so welcome x
You look gorgeous in that beautiful top❤
Ruan you look fantastic in that top
I like you❤I follow your blogs... your a realist.. now I just want to know if you used a gathering foot for the sewing machine or by hand or sew in a loose thread to pull gather
No I just use my sewing machine to do two lines of large stitches and then gather them by hand 😊
Hi there! It’s from First Mats. They weren’t made to measure so I thought the closest I could and then we cut one side down with scissors 🤣
Ah great thanks. I’ll go take a look 👍🏻
I would just do the back without the buttons and split etc. but do the neckline at the front in a scooped style. This way avoiding all the extra work and expense of buttons etc.

So sorry for the delay on this. The peg boards are from IKEA x
Great top, great fabric, great video! Did you need the buttons, or could you just sew them on without buttonholes? I think I might make this top, but still nervous with buttonholes :)
You’d probably just need the top one or you wouldn’t be able to get your head through 🤪
Gorgeous gorgeous top!! Isn’t it so funny how the whole process is fraught with agonising decisions!!! All your good decisions paid off!
Eh up chuck it’s turned out a reet bobby dazzler 🥰 I’ve got a Florence I love how you’ve lengthened the peplum on yours.
It takes me more time to decide what flippin size to make than it does to sew it 😂😂.
If I’m flummoxed I usually measure the pattern pieces Xx
Your top is too cute .. The upside down peplum looks great.. a design choice.. not a mistake..
xXX👍👍👍
