Top 5 for me so far has to be 5. Death is Little More - Boundaries 4. Half Living Things - AW 3. New Order of Mind - Dealer 2. Starfire - Darko 1. Angel Killer Zero - Diamond Construct My list is probably gonna get a lot of hate but man I love those noises, super fun to groove to at the gym or while driving to work
Maaaan I wanna feel this so bad. I'm not that big on the band but I heard the title track and it SOLD ME. But the album just didn't click. But I always give relistens cuz theres a lotta potential
@@METALBIRB With two young bubs, I've been quite out of touch with new music recently (only listened to Eidola and C's Horse from your list), but your vid definitely gave me a few albums to add on Spotify. Cheers!
Darko just hits different for me never used to like Deathcore that much but I think I've listened to Starfire at least 20+ times now during gym, work, driving home. It's like my favourite genres all had a freakish baby AOTY for sure so far... But yea that said loved ERRA, Alpha Wolf, Northlane, Knocked Loose and Diamond Constructs new stuff.
Galleons is my current AOTY so far and I didn't even know this band exists before this album. and no, 16-song album is great and not bloated (as long as every song is great). I hate this current trend of 2-3 minutes 10-song album. More like Galleons and BMTH please!
Moon Healer hit all the right spots for me personally. Sun Eater was a big influence when I was getting this style of music so this album has more meaning than the other records that came out this year. I was super disappointed by the new Knocked Loose so everyone told me to listen to Boundaries and damn, that album is probably #2 for me. Favorite non-metal is the new The Story So Far album for sure.
I might be alone here but Erra's "Cure" is my AOTY so far. That band went for the bold option of going slower, groovier, even chiller while still maintaining their identity with solid songwriting, tight pacing and just enough of that ball-breaking heaviness sprinkled throughout and the album honestly just gets better with every listen. Knocked Loose's "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To" is the silver medal winner though. For me a decent HXC band crossed the rubicon and completely upended my view on them in the best way possible, brought the intensity, had a message, and did it LESS THAN 30 MINS!!! Hats all the way off!
It feels like cure is meant to be more of a "just sit, listen and enjoy what it has to offer" record, rather than an ass beater. It grew on me, and is honestly top 5 this year personally
Boundaries is still my personal aoty. Also ERRAs album is just nice to listen to. Yes it doesn't sound like an ERRA album, but it grew on me quite a lot. Personally B tier for me.
really starting to think he's not actually a fan of metal. LMTF and Alpha Wolf are some of the best albums ever made. Greyhaven, bloom, and avralize are all top 10 albums. also darko isnt metal
Starfire is my current AOTY just because it’s everything you could possibly ask for a band like Darko, the breakcore sections fit perfectly with their style, the insane riffs and technicality are turned up to 11, all around an unbelievably good release
My top 5 so far: 1. Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To 2. Darkest Hour - Perpetual Terminal 3. Boundaries - Death is Little More 4. Umbra Vitae - Light of Death 5. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield Honorable mentions: Cavalera Conspiracy - Schizophrenia: would be in top 3 but it's a rerecording of an album from the 80s Mirar - Mare: left off for not being an album lol
Knocked loose is album of the year for me, especially since it feels like a big step up from a different shade of blue, I think the problem people keep having is just starting and stopping and trying to analyze each song individually, where if you listen to the album as a whole, it’s fantastic. I think it’s fair to analyze singles that way, but I think albums should just be viewed as a whole, because “moss covers all” and “take me home” connect to each other like counting worms, and that’s one of their most popular beat downs. I can in good conscious give it like a 9, maybe a 9.2. If they added the singles onto it, I could maybe even give it a 9.5
As of now my AOTY is Boundaries - Death is little more. Also, that tier list is pretty spot on. I personally enjoyed the new Foreign Hands a little more than you did, but all the points you made about the album are valid. I feel like they have the potential to do more than what they did with this album. Still, I really enjoy it for what it is.
I just can't decide between Boundaries and Imminence, so for now I have them join top for AOTY. Just love both of those records. While some have been close, no other albums have been S-tier for me. Hopeful of Future Palace and Bilmuri to give me more S-tiers for the remainder of the year. I am very picky when it comes to deathcore/tech-death/death metal or any adjacent sub-genre of that, and while the Synestia EP was fun, it's B-tier at max for me. Also, speaking of albums for gym, I know Knocked Lose and Boundaries are solid, but do yourself a favor and check out Mortal Reminder's self-titled. It rips. Cure honestly grew on me, you have to listen to it knowing it's more like drift 2.0. I found myself putting it on more often than i thought, can't explain but it just makes me happy. Groove and chill with some heavy parts
My top 5 atm is 1. Vitriol Suffer and Become 2. Daath The Deceivers 3. Darko US Starfire 4. TBD 5. TBD Disembodied Tyrant and Synestia The Poetic Edda is a EP so I can’t put it in my AOTY contenders A ton of albums still to come especially in July and August with Vulvodynia, Left to Suffer, Fleshgod Apocalypse, A Wake In Providence all with albums still to come out and maybe more to be announced for the end of the year
Top albums so far for me in 2024 in metal & rock would be Death Is Little More by Boundaries, PostHuman: NextGen from BMTH & You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To by Knocked Loose I also want to give a shoutout too Night Verses really good prog metal instrumental music. Most anticipated album releases that have already been announced I am looking forward too this year would be Nothing More's album releasing this Friday. Highly Suspect in July and Vola in November! Also Badflower announced they will be dropping something soon as well. So far so good! \m/
Volume 2 by The Plot in You has been on repeat for me this year so far. Don’t Look Away may not be the heaviest track this year but the anger and rawness to Landon’s voice sells it for me. Really felt like a call back to Happiness in Self Destruction which was so refreshing. I can also relate to it sadly but just a 10/10 EP.
My favorite (so far) this year is definitely Imminence’s The Black. Then a tie between BMTH’s Post Human and Erra’s Cure. After that it’s a toss up for anything else.
The Poetic Edda and Death Is Little More definetly S tier for me too. I liked your tierlist in general. We all have different tastes and we have to respect that. In my case I enjoyed LMTF record more than BMTH. I would put it in A Tier and BMTH in B tier. But tastes are subjective and we don't have to get mad for someone not liking the same as us. Thanks for the video, you gave me new music and bands to check out.
Personal AOTY is definitely Charcoal Grace by Caligula's Horse. I understand the placement of B, but damn, that shit has been on repeat on my playlists throughout the year
Personally for me, Imminence have my AOTY, just an emotional album front to back they did it so well. EP of the year, obviously The Poetic Edda got it. Have a nice day ✨✨✨
One helpful thing with tier lists is that if you dont wanna add + or - to the tiers, you can just order the best one to the front of the tier and the lowest one of the tier to the end
Just to add a few other albums/EP's: Dealer - New Order of Mind Paledusk - Palehell Before I Turn - The Devil Exists Shokran - Duat Olly Steele - Imbalance Belmont - Liminal Ankor - Embers Immortal Disfigurement - King Albums to look forward to: Ever Forthright - Techniflux - 7/12 (First new album since 2011) Falling in Reverse - Popular Monster - 7/26 Oceano - Living Chaos - 8/30
Immortal Disfigurement, despite all the drama and bad publicity, was actually better than I expected. I would add Ameonna to that list, the new project from some old Chelsea Grin members. It does sound a lot like newer CG, but it’s cool listening to Alex and Pablo make music together again.
I know for the last few albums, Intervals has moved away from djent in favor of brighter more colorful vibes but their newest album, memory palace, brought some of the heaviness back and is really good and should be on the list for sure.
Boundaries is my artist of the year (so far). Not only with DiLM, but with Your Receding Warmth and Burying Brightness. If you can't tell, I only discovered them this year. but if Allt releases an album, then no one stands a chance
My personal AOTY so far is the new Diamond Construct, but I absolutely understand why it's been recieved so poorly by alot of people. It kinda reminds me of St Anger (which I also love) in a way where it just has zero interest in having any clarity or space. Although the new Nothing More album coming out this week could likely take that AOTY spot for me
The Poetic Edda is my favorite release of the year, but its an EP, so for albums my top 5 goes: Job For A Cowboy - Moon Healer, Darko US - Starfire, Aborted - Vault Of Horrors, Vitriol - Suffer & Become, Rendered Helpless - From Nothing Comes All. Ulcerate's new album is an honorable mention.
just getting back into metal and would really appreciate the link to list or even the list in written format. i see you have list in spotify with most of these artist which is helpful! thank you
I've always been a fan of slaughter to prevail but I can just feel that they're about to go mid in the worst way. They need to go back to deathcore cuz as a groove/nu metalish kinda band is bringing it down. Last 2 songs they've come out with have been so lazy songwriting wise and Alex is slowly becoming a parody of himself as time goes on.
@@Rob_Cary the reason they moved away from more straight up deathcore is because they admitted they were tired of it. I'd much prefer they be making the music they want to make than what people want them to make.
Jeez, my favorite record from 2024 is actually an early CD of the last TAIM album that has CJ’s vocals still on it. As far as this year go listen to the new project from Alex Koehler, Pablo Viveros, and Jacob Harmond.
I missed the second half of this portion of stream, but YESSSSSS to Boundaries being in S tier. Glad you’re loving the album as much as I am. Best gym album right now. AOTY
Personal favs this year so far are Boundaries, Foreign Hands, SYSC, wristmeetrazor, and KL. I love Erra (they were awesome live on their recent headliner) and the new album is great (Rumor of Light is one of my recent favorite songs of theirs), but i haven't been coming back to it as much as the others above. Charcoal Grace is great too, but I haven't been feeling prog stuff for a while now 😅
I've been wondering why there's been so little talk about the Diamond Construct album, but I guess its because people aren't feeling it. And that just shocks me tbh because next to Boundries album, Angel Killer Zero is neck and neck with it for me. The first time I listened to it I admit it wasa little weird and noisey, but it was addictive and I kept going back it, and now I love it. Filling out my top 5 (so far) is Red Handed Denial's album A Journey Through Virtual Dystopia, Filth's Southern Hositility, and the new Knocked Loose album.
Knocked Loose and Darko are tied for AOTY both band have been putting out consistent material. All of their records are amazing. Give flowers where they are do.
I have to agree that Boundaries is probably ATOY, but for me, it's a toss between this and Bilmuri. Bilmuri's surprised me by how groovy and just enjoyable to listen through. And my wife who DOES NOT like Metal and who LOVES country, actually is vibing Bilmuri like crazy. So it gets played a lot here! Great year for metal music for sure!
Honestly can't disagree all too much with your list. As an old school metalcore fan I really gotta check out that Darkest Hour album and give some more spins to some others.
The albums I go back to this year. Knocked Loose. Boundaries. Chamber. (This was released last year. Either way, the newest album is dope.) DarkoUS. Sadistik. (Not metal persay. But essentially poetry/rap for metal/hardcore fans) Seeyouspacecowboy.
No Foxblood :( Anyway, for me, a lover of Erra, Eidola, Reliqa, Imminence and a fan of Wage War, Northlane, Bad Omens this 2024 has been quite tepid. I sincerely recommend Foxblood newest album, it is so, so, so FRESH. At least it was for me after this luke warm start.
Hot take, but I’m not feeling the heavy non singles. The rest of the album is a bop. And I’d say Knocked Loose’s album is AOTY for me. I’ll check out that Boundries album, though.
Avralize and Darko are my AOTY so far. Bring me is a close third. Didnt vibe with boundaries too much this year. Couldnt get into it for whatever reason.
AOTY for me is a tie between the new Ulcerate and Thou records. Not loving a ton of core music this year, though Knocked Loose, JfaC, and Eidola were all pretty enjoyable. Was really looking forward to and ended up hugely underwhelmed by Erra and BMTH.
I came here because for some reason I thought it said best death metal albums. I was very shocked when you pulled up the first band and with respect I will give you a like and then I will hightell it the f*** out of here. Good day sir
I knew a lot of my favorites of the year would not show up here since I've been loving a lot of black metal and death metal this year. My favorite from this list is SeeYouSpaceCowboy... with Darko US close behind it. My overall favorite album of the year is Candela by Svdestada. It's blackened crust punk with hardcore punk mixed in from Spain and it rules! Melodic black metal band Dödsrit and SeeYouSpaceCowboy... are close though.
Wage war is so tiring and bored. It just feels like there was no passion and no heart in what they put out. I am excited though for the home teams album, and windwakers upcoming banger!
What is your AOTY so far?
Charcoal Grace by Caligula's Horse!!
Okay... Maybe also Half living things 😅
Why did you remove some of your vids with metal babe? Like the bleach bath reaction for example that was a good one

It’s boundaries or KL for me I adore Boundaries so that might take the cake.
Oooh I forgot about imminence…. They might push KL down…ahh why is this so hard.
Is the Boundaries album suppose to grow on you? Because I only enjoyed the singles so far
A whole tier just for Wage War, I fully agree
Eviscerate by Eidola is my AOTY, Like Moths to Flames new album also was very impressive considering I never listened to them until now.
Concerning metal, Infant Island, Caligula's Horse, REZN, Pallbearer and Julie Christmas are my AOTY contenders for now!
Honestly can't disagree all too much with your list. As an old school metalcore fan I really gotta check out that Darkest Hour album and give some more spins to some others.
The albums I go back to this year.
Knocked Loose.
Boundaries.
Chamber. (This was released last year. Either way, the newest album is dope.)
DarkoUS.
Sadistik. (Not metal persay. But essentially poetry/rap for metal/hardcore fans)
Seeyouspacecowboy.
Best albuns for me for sure: The Black, Cure and Freaks.
My current top 5 looks like
1. Boundaries
2. Infant Island
3. Knocked Loose
4. SYSC
5. Imminence
Next gen and The Poetic Edda are my favorites so far
No Foxblood :(
Anyway, for me, a lover of Erra, Eidola, Reliqa, Imminence and a fan of Wage War, Northlane, Bad Omens this 2024 has been quite tepid. I sincerely recommend Foxblood newest album, it is so, so, so FRESH. At least it was for me after this luke warm start.
Avralize is A tier, lovely album
Hot take, but I’m not feeling the heavy non singles. The rest of the album is a bop.
And I’d say Knocked Loose’s album is AOTY for me. I’ll check out that Boundries album, though.
Avralize and Darko are my AOTY so far. Bring me is a close third.
Didnt vibe with boundaries too much this year. Couldnt get into it for whatever reason.
this comment section is just as chaotic as i expected ahaha
for me Eidola has top spot still, seriously in love with that album
I agree with most of it. I would move ERRA, greyhaven, galleons, bloom, and LMTF up 1 spot each tho
Damn. ERRA in C is rough
@@0owmjapo0 very!
Galleons was my number one, tbh.
@@jj.scrozzari facts! ❤️🙏🏽
Galleons album was so good
Charcoal Grace by Caligula’s Horse
FINALLY some culture, CH releasing their best work yet ❤️
My AOTY is Death Is Little More by Boundaries, 3 incredible albums in a row, they're great musicians.
Is there a link to the tier list, so that we can rank them too?
So far Enterprise Earth has kept me going back to their album more than others, however, it had to grow on me.
Half Living Things is aoty for me. Can easily listen to every song and thoroughly enjoy it.
I'm trying to venture into more black metal lately. But death metal I enjoy... still need to hear the Aborted album
Foreign hands is definitely s class
For me, so far (and BY FAR) my favorite release this year the Greyhaven EP, Stereo Grief.
Boundaries guaranteed number 1 so far, the rest are a toss up. There's a bunch of good ones so far
S Tire: Disembodiant Tyrant, Darko US, Consvmer, Eden Adversery
very respectable tier list, i almost agree but there’s a number of records missing i would add into here
Wage war is so tiring and bored. It just feels like there was no passion and no heart in what they put out. I am excited though for the home teams album, and windwakers upcoming banger!
Im so happy you put Boundaries in S tier.
Night Verses and Knocked Loose are tied for albums of the year for me
