The website Who Sampled is a great resource to get a side by side comparison of the sample and the beat.

Been racking my brain for a while tying to figure this out, you put it all in perspective! Thank you so much! Great beat and technique!

Thanks for the kind words. Hope you make some bangers with it!

@@BarryDanielMusic Cheers, I'll give it a try. I've not tested it but reckon this could also work in 12/8 if you chopped the 1,4,7 and 10th beats, though I should probably focus on writing a banger from a 4/4 track first! You've opened many doors explaining this though, respect!

Good video and analysis. From using the 2000 and 2000xl for so many years, I have learned from Dilla to just let the rhythm flow and it will come to you.

Composition is one of the things I struggle with the most. You make it look easy my dude! Keep these vids coming!

Thank you sir 🙏 But trust there’s a lot that gets edited out. Something that helps me though when sampling is taking different sections from the sample and bringing them in and out so it doesn’t sound like a straight loop.

@@BarryDanielMusic Good point! Pete Rock talked about keeping and adding to one folder with sampled drums and one with samples - so when you sit down to create, you always have dope samples around.. Also, the 6/8-4/4 tech is really something to keep in the back of you head for when you come across these grooves.. if you set out to find a sample like this, you'll be at the crates all day 😂

That’s one of the teachers right there. And I definitely recall the interview he said that. Haha. Trust if I didn’t have the sample on hand this would be a different video and video topic. Haha
