i for some reason love police vehicles.. something about em are just so.. just awesome. i have like an obsession lol
I now right
Try building em and outfitting em, some days you will curse their very existence
Well my SON has a Total ORIGINAL 1987 Holden VL Model Police CAR still with the Factory options and paperwork and books, which is a V8 as well, which in australia is very rare to find everyone wants the turbo six's that they brought out and they were coded by holden as BT1 packs which is the holden code for police car and also it's a pursuit police pack not an undercover car but a HWY patrol car.
I have lost count how many change over trips I made to Nhil Western Victoria with a B-Double semi truck transporting all the car parts for Holden to make this car. Greetings from Australia
aussie viewer here, this was a pretty cool demo how one of many caprices gets the police transformation, also thanks for the Holden shoutout.. peace
Man alive, they put a ton of labor into one of these cruisers!! Just thinking of the wiring gives me a headache. Great job, dudes!
Wow it's pretty cool that a local police car is being built in this video! Newberg-Dundee Police department from Oregon.
we have this car in saudi arabia from
2000 to now
very strog car from holden❤️
I'm 27 and a master car stereo installer with a life obsession for radar, laser, lights, sirens and police memorabilia. This would be a sweet job! My riding mower even has a second battery and full amber LED set up
WOW, a plug for us Aussies, THANKS BUD!!! Yep, Holden STATESMAN caprice....all RHD downunder...looks weird seeing a LHD statesman....LOL Cheers guys... PS, I live 5miles from the factory where these were made!
I love these full install videos that you guys do! Please keep doing these
police package version of the new Caprice? how about the only version of the new Caprice.
Wonderful !
Congratulations to the whole team.
+Grenadieros Thank You. We're glad you like our Presentations.
My buddy just bought a 12 caprice retired cop car with 65k miles on it. Sweet car! Thinkin about trying to find one myself
what kind of training do these guys go through beforehand. im interested in doing this but have no idea what kind of training is needed
I'm Stuart, welcome to Sire-net television.
Neighbors must love it when you test the cars..lol. Not too mention motorists getting out of the way thinking a cop is actually driving..
2013 Holden Commodore rebadged as a Chevy Caprice, they are also used as Police vehicles in Australia, if you get the chance have a look at pictures of Commodore Highway Patrol cars from Australia the latest ones down here are very cool.
Actually, it's rebadged as a Chevy SS
Drop Bear Actually, it's not a rebadged Commodore. It's a Caprice. The Chevy SS is the rebadged Commodore
tclott316 Why does gm creates messes like this! Suburban = Yukon XL etc. Same stuff.
The only items consistent with Holden Commodore and Holden Caprice, is the front doors and the windscreen. Suspension is also tuned differently.
Excellent video. Had no idea they really strip down the interior like that. Thank you.
My family has the Holden version of this car. Ex-hire car used for weddings and such. Black 6 Litre with 22' rims. In Australia the highway patrol Holdens still run the factory Alloy wheels, not steel rims like this car.
Im from Australia as well
You can still buy some of the items from the caprice down under for the same model as surplus stock, so like the rims and tires for example . :)
It's fun, in an odd way, to see the varying degree of care taken in this video. At first, an extension cord is laid over the bonnet of the car, taillights are put glass down when drilling into them (vacuum wont really do much btw), and so on. Also, drilling through metal at full speed and without any lubricant is a bit odd. Then later in the video, towels are everywhere and it looks as though greater care is taken.
It's an interesting video to watch. I'm a bit of a nerd in terms of modifications, and I actually found myself noting - as the video was playing - that the front headlight strobes ("hideaways"?) would be invisible in daylight due to their position on the top of the headlight behind the dispersing lense, that the radio console looked as if it would not be possible to operate it "normally" whilst seated in the car, and that I could not for the life of me imagine how the grommet from the light bar would ever be able to be water tight. Dunno about the last one, but I'd say I called the two first ones.
It's also interesting in the sense, that it's almost stupifying to see the amount of changes done. Where I live, the Police take vehicles from factory, install emergency lights (fewer!!), and put in a radio and a siren/light controller. There are no partitions between front and rear, if people can't behave, they get to ride in the back of a prison van instead. No gun racks, police carry side arms, and have vests in the trunk. Only in case of an escalated alert will they deploy with MP5s and in those cases, the guns are kept in the vehicle trunk. Shotguns are never used here. All this also means, that access to the climate controls, radio and other controls are unhindered, which is obviously a concern with the amount of equipment in the car built in the video.
What would be awesome, in my opinion, was if manufactors would actually provide an integrated solution for the equipment. For instance, VW have a control unit for most of their cars labelled "Special Use Vehicle" meant for taxis or driving schools. It would make sense, in my opinion, if cars made for Police use actually came with f.ex. a dash panel insert that could contain the nessacary switches, nicely background illuminated, and so on. It would bring a much better function to the officer and others, for instance by turning of sirens and alternating highbeams after 30 seconds of stationary vehicle, and by providing tonnes more room inside the car and less obstructions for the officer. Same with the touch screen in most new cars - give it an interface, so that the police computer functions can be connected to it in a simple way - i.e. video in + USB out (touch input).
Thanks for sharing the video though, it's an interesting insight. Did you ever consider using CANbus- (or other bus-) based components to cut down on the fairly substancial amount of wiring? It would make it drastically easier to fit the wiring in the car - the amount of cables in the front-to-rear-door-sills would simply not be possible on most European cars. And by a similar token, do you actually project the wiring size (AWG) to match the use and load? It seems very drastic. :)
D & D are both lucky guys to be working in an indoor facility!
Depending on the exact build, installation times range from 30 to 80 hours per Vehicle.
SIRENNET, AWESOME WORK ON THIS VEHICLE!
@@davidsmalldridge514We appreciate that! :) Good ole' Chevy Caprice ;)
Best looking mainstream police car !
Very good video, shows interesting details, and there came to me two questions, you are also facilities for ambulances? and the second you teach a person from another country to facilities like this to be used in police and rescue vehicles here in Brazil?
I await a return if possible.
Thank you
The cable of lights bar ain't going to leak water if it's only secure with a rubber ring ? and very nice job guys :)
I was hoping they would be more detailed with the wiring... I'm trying to figure out why my 2014 doesn't have rear brake lights or turning signals... anyone else have this problem?
Ended up a very Boss looking PPV. Just needs a front push bar.
Thanks for mentioning Holden :)
and no one cares
I care, many enthusiasts care...
Inferior? Our cars are the best, no need to feel inferior. We want Holden to get the recognition it deserves.
best at what? "we" no a select group of Australians want to feel like big shots, going around saying "its a fucking holden" and "that's Australian" meanwhile no one outside of your country gives 2 fucks that it was built by an aussie.
Whatever, its still a Holden.
อยากทำงานแบบนี้บ้างจัง ผมชอบงานแบบนี้มากๆๆๆๆ likes
SIRENNET would it be possible to do a video on how to install a push bar on a Chevy impala? I'm planning on putting a full wrap around on my impala and I can't seem to find a video on that subject. Much thanks in advance.
SIRENNET So is Dundee a Suburb of Portland since it's like right next to Portland.
I bought a 2013 Chevy Caprice PPV the horn won't and i checked all fuses and checked to see if they cut any wires by the horns behind the from bumper on both sides
Your workers seem very talkative.
Y'all NEED to get some cordless impact drivers lol still using drills in 2013
I noticed the civilian version the SS has the 6.2 liter V8 with much more HP then the 6.0 PPV shown here.
Do you guys have info on the ppv radio weather or not its physical wirring or programming to unlock the radio features such as bluetooth and ipod connection
Hello Sirennet - long time video watcher. Question for you, are you allowed to test these on the road with the lights going? Do you have a special "license" or permission to do this since you are a install company or do you just test on private roads?
We do not test equipment on open roadways. The Open road testing we conduct is for fine tuning rattles and squeaks' if they exist.
We do have a permissioned closed private area in which light and siren testing can be/is done.
So with the caprice like this being strictly a service vehicle how easy is it to get replacement parts and stuff for it? Like if I were to own a retired one how easy would it be to acquire parts? And is it at a premium?
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu which is made by the same parent company that made the Caprice (Holden). Are there are speaker mounts for a whelen 100W for my Malibu?
I've been doing car audio professionally for about 6 years now. But I would really like to know how to get into building police vehicles. Do you have any info on how to get into this field of work in southern California zip 91350? Thank you
No one seems to read the cars background any more it is a car made in Australia it is the luxury model for the holden commodore also made In Australia and known in other countries as a Pontiac gto in Australia the Chevy caprice is sold as a holden caprice which is the luxury and high performance model and also sold a a statesmen and people in other countries buy it thinking it's an American news flash it not it AUSTRALIAN :-)
Your statement in regards to all Americans believe there made in our country just is not true at least the majority know. GM dealerships are required to tell its customers where they are made. Plus it states it on the drivers door information sticker. Cars made in Canada and sold in the U.S. also have the same sticker on the drivers door. The cars made in Australia are of good quality and it did not matter to me at all that my GTO was made in one of our Allied Countries. I am very sorry to hear General Motors - at least the last I knew - were going to quit making most GM cars in Australia. Please correct me if I am wrong. Cheers to our good friends down under.
anymore your lucky you dont get our modern fords from 1980s onward they have expensive unreliable parts
It's like my car 🚗 🔥🔥❤️
@ Brett Karr... Thank You :)
I want that for my car, aswell;) Traffic sucks.
Not bad. All though there are some things I would have done differently like the side lighting in the finder and intersectors, there a little over board for a marked car with a light bar on top, I would have had the setup a lightbar on top with the strobes in the blinkers and the head/tail light flashers, and the radio console I would have put the siren controller on top and the radios on the bottom just cause it would be harder to see which bitten is which. But other then that everything is good.
Oh and in my state (Illinois) patrol cars with a lightbar on top are not allowed to have lights on the dash and grill you can only have them in the blinkers and back windows, the Illinois state police usually have head/tail light flashers and some have strobes in the blinkers and tail lights. Then we have slick tops with the lightbars on the inside and head/tail light flashers.
Brandon Hess it's all up to what the customer wants sometimes. we call it queer for lights where I'm from. fire departments have big budgets and like lots of lights and Chrome
Interesting to see all the work that goes into building a cop car. The only thing you need to install now is a donut case LOL j/k
Simon, what brand of computer is that on the trunk tray?
Is the short-depth siren speaker driver less loud than the older, much heavier, deeper 100W driver?
Recently replaced a Federal Signal TS100's speaker driver with a short-depth driver.
Seems less loud.
Thank you.
Robert Gift Depending of the exact Driver and the Ohm's it produces, there can be a bit of an output difference between different Speakers. Also the front cone/scoop, based on its design, can effect the sound and how it is projected.
SIRENNET Thank you. Did not see its impedance anywhere.
Are all siren drivers not the same electrical characteristics?
Not sure of the make. Now it is behind a Camry's grill and difficult to get to.
SIRENNET Depending on the exact speaker and the Driver's construction, they can differ.
Excellent
How long does it take them to build a car start to finish?
it sucks because all this hard work goes into wiring, and light mounting and interior work, and all it takes is one police pursuit to wreck all of the work.
Hey there Sirennet. I have a question for you. In the video at 25:05 I spot the rims on that white SUV, so my question is. Where can I get my hands on wheels like those?
The White SUV is a Ford Utility. Your local Ford Dealership should be able to give you Pricing for the Special Service Wheel package.
Why did you drill a pilot hole before using a hole saw for the lightbar wiring?
The pilot hole helps guide the drill bit in the center of the hole saw bit. You really only get one chance to drill the hole in the roof, so they make sure there won't be any bit walking.
Very nice, thanks for the tip!
Guys... its amazing! Great job! Tks for the video.
Thanks for watching. We're glad you enjoyed it. :)
that car inside looks so fake man!, look at that door. But that installing of the lights(siren) is awensome!!!, i like it (y)
That is the kind of Caprice excellent for Xbox One's Forza 6.
If this happens very soon along with Ford Crown Victoria police interceptors and SUV's, including Chevy Tahoe's, that should happen very soon when Xbox One's Forza 6 comes very soon.
I'm sorry .. Saudi And but are Alcabres in 2000-2013 Australian or American industry
Well done that was a very interesting video, what a nice install
Thanks Matt :)
how much time is needed to build a police car?
who makes that right angle ratchet? looks nice and compact. anyone, anyone?
Do you know anything about road runner solid state? It’s installed on my 95 caprice I need to know the diagram due to my turn signals not wanting to work when my head lights are on. Item number 25023 I guess
Hi Tim. Soundoff's knowledge of their flashers exceeds ours when it comes to wiring and functionality. Their Technical Service gents can be reached at (800) 338-7337.
SIRENNET ok thanks
What did they do with all those leftover parts?
They go with the car back to the department.
Está chido el canal pero estaría mejor si ubiera uno en Español para México saludos like
Can customers reprogram the switch box to operate as they want?
The Soundoff Controller does allow for reprogramming. If you wanted the buttons to active differently, tones to engage with the slide-switch, etc., it can be adjusted after the first time it is installed.
Nothing like being filmed, let alone watched, while working on a customer's car.
i think you mean watched let alone filmed. You had it the wrong way. It's always the least surprising item first then the more surprising one last. Being watched would seem to be expected since supervisors, customers, etc would be expected to come in and see what is being done. Being filmed however would not normally be expected much less put on You tube for the world to see.
Need some headers and cams,, ...:)whst the best for it?
this is a war machine...
stuart are u from ireland if so what part
He won't let us say exactly from he's from. He likes to keep folks guessing.
Why is there a floor shifter instead
Of the the one up by the gauges???
The 2013 and earlier Caprice's had the floor mounted shifter. The 2014 model has the revamped interior with the column mounted shifter.
SIRENNET nice thanks!! also I have a touchmaster delta what 100w siren speaker do you recommend i use that doesn't sound bad. im lookin for a power nice sounding speaker let me know what ya got! Thanks!!
broke it ryan, broke it! XD! awesome!!!
Anyone know if there is any way to mount a light bar temporarily on the roof so it can be removed for the summer? For example on a plow truck.
+Sam Troy You have a couple of options. One would be the same way they did it in the video with a quick disconnect under the light bar on the outside. Or you'd have to run the wires in the door jam or in a cracked window. The most proper way to do it would be with a quick disconnect because of the winter conditions you do not want any water leaking into the vehicle.
Another great project.
if I bought the gamma 2 and wanted to select my tones without having them be heard through a speaker, is there a smaller speaker in the unit itself so I can hear my tones I have?
The Whelen Gamma2 does not have an internal speaker. You could use a smaller wattage stand-alone speaker for a quieter output if desired.
SIRENNET ok thanks
Why isn't there protection for the back window? Isn't it needed?
+Rocky Esperon Rear Window Barriers really aren't common. If the transport area has an occupant and there seated properly with a transport seat, the rear window should be out of range. The Barrier could also cause some obstruction for the Driver. Some SUV's do get rear window and rear side window barriers added to them. In those cases, its more to protect the Equipment inside from outside sources as this area wouldn't be used for transporting people.
+SIRENNET Excellent and difinitive explanation. I love structured cabling! Keep up the good work!
+Rocky Esperon Thank You. We don't plan on stopping any time soon :)
Great build!
Really great job done. Looks very professional! :)
Wow, that remote head position looked really cramped and uncomfortable to use.
I thought the rear wheel drive Caprice sedan was stopped in 1996
Holden never stopped making the caprice until they stopped making cars in Australia. First model in 1990 last in 2017. I believe there were 6 or 7 different models between that time
question....so there is a 2013 caprice???? or impala???
There is both. In 2013 Chevy offered both Caprice's and Impala's.
SIRENNET THANKS
But only the Caprice is available to law enforcement
There is even 2016 but in the middle east
Awesome work guys!
Very clean! love it!
What kind of electronic ratchet did he use to take off headlight brand ??
Snap-On.
Sweet ride
What color are the strobes in the front blinkers?
The front Hide-away's are White.
+SIRENNET okay thanks.
what kind of bracket is the computer on
+SupremeSound The Bracket is a Dash Mount Kit that's available from Havis: www.havis.com/products/DEVMT_MNTR_DSH_SO_CAPR_11_13-41801-59.html
My 2012 CAPRICE HORN STOPPED WORKING. ANY IDEAS?
Have you checked the fuse?
SIRENNET the problem was on the passenger underside dash area where the brown wire was rerouted to the black wire maybe for siren or something. Works perfect now. Thank you for your assistance.......
@@PursuitMode2011 Glad to hear that you got it fixed :)
Great video again
In Middle East they didn't last long I wonder what they'll do in the U.S. ?
How come you need to put plastic in the back
+mumtaz begum Sometimes when you're transporting a drunk/high or even just an ornery "passenger" they puke/pee/defecate/bleed and plastic is easier to clean than upholstery, and more sanitary once cleaned.
what watt is the speaker for the siren ?
It is a 100 Watt speaker.
Siren's name please...
darn!!! no Euro police sounds !!! the 2 tone sounds.
Is Stuart Irish by chance?
+Sean Kiernan... He is :)
SIRENNET I knew I could hear the accent! great videos as always!
+Sean Kiernan Thank You :)
damn, you pretty much have to strip the car to hook the lights up
great video!
good job
Very good for work or police car
Just think, they'll retire those eventually and you'll see everyone driving one... much like the older caprice and impalas
Very true, they are already popping up here and there. Saw a '13 Taurus PI sitting at the ford dealer the other day for sale. Look at it this way though, back then all departments had to choose from was pretty much the Impala/Caprice alone. Now days so many others have jumped in the game, Ford with the Taurus/Explorer, Chevy with the CVPI, Caprice and Tahoe, Dodge with the Charger and Durango so I don't think you'll see as many civilians driving them as in the past.
Yea, I want the new Caprice, those are pretty fast when Supercharged with an exhaust
💪👀👍👍👍
fuck that i just want the rear end and transmission out of these
Saudi aribea good I love amereka
