  • Joint Task Force Organization - A brief description of the Joint Task Force (JTF) organization, command relationships, and functional component commands. It includes discussions of OPCON, TACON, and ADCON. Additionally, a brief description of a JFMCC and its associated Amphibious Force, Amphibious Task Force, and Landing Force is provided. This is an extract taken from the AUP film “Okinawa 1945: Planning Operation ICEBERG.”

One challenge I've always had here is that a JTF, which has its own subordinate Service Component and Functional Component, then might designate an entirely separate ARFOR. There are obviously times it is beneficial to have distinct SCC, FCC, and ARFOR, but it does expand the JTF CDR's span of control for non-operational reasons.
I think joint doctrine is far too light on JTFs, though it has improved over the last decade.
Also, the JFMCC chart shown is heavily dependent on unspecific (though discernible) operational considerations for each broad action listed.

I'm sorry. I help write doctrine. I still don't know what normally, regularly, or traditionally means in doctrine....

I feel sorry for any troops that have to make sense of this tangled wad of spaghetti, and I'm a retired officer.
