We have been exposing our students to Complex Adaptive Systems for the last 7 years. It is a critical concept when looking at systems analysis for today's complex environment.
At seven minutes into the video, the Colonel describes the operational art as connecting the tactical to the strategic. So, what is the difference between operational art and activities that are planned (includes the SA) and executed (including the command and control) at the operational level of war?
Timothy - Thanks for the question, sorry it took so long to reply. The difference between OP Art and the Planned Activities are best explained as a process. OP Art allows us to understand the complex OE to scale, scope and ultimately give an operational approach. This is the transition point to the systemic planning process (like JPP or MDMP). The pieces of OP Art provide richness to steps like Mission Analysis and COA Development that lead to OPORDs, EXORDs etc.

Love this video. Really clear and practical framework for wrapping up an understanding of ‘a problem’ from the strategic down to the tactical.
Thank you Ben.
