    The scene where the boy did not shake his hands after the dueling banjos was because Drew's character takes the lords name in vain. He says God damn.

    Did you know the “ toothless man “ in deliverance was Herbert Lee "Cowboy" Coward who was also an actor at Ghost Town in the Sky. Burt Reynolds was also an early actor a Ghost Town and they knew each other from there. Cowboy still lives in Haywood County NC.

      the other guy, the one that committed the assault is Bill McKinney. You may know him from some other films. He was Captain "red legs" Terrell in Outlaw Josie Wales, he was one of the Black widows (the one with the horns on his helmet) In Every Which Way but Loose. He was also Dave the state police captain in Rambo First Blood.

    Enjoyed the video very much! When trying to match up the exact filming spots you sometimes have to deal with things like weather, but you did a great job considering what you had to work with. Just seeing where a piece of cinematic history was filmed over 50 years ago is so cool and the movie still lives on all these years later.

    Billy Redden, who was cast as the Banjo playing inbred, today works at the local Walmart. I saw a news clip about him and he says that Deliverance was the best thing that happened to him, though he didn't get paid much $ for the work and role. The late great Bill McKinney, the primary mountain man, has a huge resume of films. I had forgotten that he worked alot with Clint Eastwood, like The Outlaw Jose Wales. I did recognize him as one of the guards in The Green Mile. He's the one in the small room with the "switch", who throws it when he hears, "Roll on 2."

    Was the nightmare scene at the end of the film of the hand coming out from the lake, filmed at Buford Dam in Georgia on Lake Lanier?

    • @lelandjackson-w2d
      @lelandjackson-w2d หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That scene was filmed at the Keowee-Toxaway Visitor Center on the Duke Power Dock at the Oconee Nuclear Station on Lake Keowee, reachable from the parking lot at the Visitor Center. If you slow down the tape you can see cars crossing the bridge on SC Hwy 183 across Lake Keowee as the hand comes out of the water. I need to get a DVD of the film just to see what it shows. We spent several hours with the 4 principal actors that afternoon during the filming. Only about 10 members of the crew were present with a huge Mitchell 70 mm camera. Two guys with scuba tanks spent about about 3 hour in the water filming the hand from about 5 different angles. Burt and John spent 2 hours in my office using the phone in my office to talk to friends using the company watts line. No cell phones in 1972!

    • @R.POliver
      @R.POliver หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Thanks for the insight, fascinating. Since you apparently were part of the crew, did you film the hand coming out of the water after the shot of just the lake, but with no hand? Because it seemed like it was a little darker at night with the shot of no hand and just the lake. I’m also interested how Boorman achieved the shot because it seems to literally hover just above the water. And I looked for cars in the background but I couldn’t see any.

    • @lelandjackson-w2d
      @lelandjackson-w2d หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only a small number of crew members were present. I assume there is still a Duke Power dock present at the Visitor Center at the Keowee Dam. Boorman was not present for the shot that day but I did meet him at the Visitor Center. In the upper left hand of the shot cars an be seen crossing the Hwy 183 bridge. I don't have a VCR to view the tape anymore! The guy in scuba gear was in the water and raised his hand multiple times and at various angles for multiple shots. No one knew which one they would choose for the film. I was NOT a crew member.

    @3:00 Check out how long Burt's leg is from heel to knee and how short his upper leg/thigh is!
    Poor Burt, still so body conscious at that age which couldn't have been very comfortable. Between that huge boot heel and the inside lift he has to be gaining at least an extra 4 inches and it looks a bit ridicules.
    Well Burt loved his lifts... boot lifts, face lifts, eyelid and brow lifts, you name it. Such a shame too because he had such rugged iconic looks in the 60s and 70s, but by the 80s Burt starts looking a bit metro-sexual. It only goes downhill from there with his Jerry-curl hairpiece of the 90s, and later on in the new century his facial skin so thinly pulled back it was hard to look at him! Thankfully his sunglasses helped cover his slanted eyes.
    Don't get me wrong I love the guy and loved his earlier movies (up till Cannonball run, very little after), plus he contributed so much to his films it left him injured! I'm the ultimate fan which is why I just wish he grew old gracefully like a man. I think he would've been respected more as an actor and I think it would also have been a better look to match the type of characters he played.
    He also should be commended for his loyal friendships to his acting buddies like Jerry Reed and Dom Deluise to name a few. Too bad he couldn't stay loyal to the women in his life which ultimately left him a broken man losing half his shit a few times in divorces to the point of bankruptcy having to sell his ranch and auction off all his belongings of which I'm assuming included that canoe.
