i think what’s throwing you off is that jimin uses his lower register in this song, in which he doesnt end notes with the nasal twang
He still has a unic color to his tone though. I love his voice 💜

14:12 I couldn't agree more. Hobi's charisma and stage presence is overwhelming on stage! You can't take your eye off of him. That's why there's a saying _"People attends BTS concert with different biases but goes home J-hope bias"_ ❤ They are all stable with live performances/concerts but Hobi is just on a different level.
It was jimin! He sang in his lower register which is criminally underrepresented nowadays. We're conditioned to expect these crazy high tones in that very specific way he sings, but we often forget that he also has a really nice lower register. Remember 'lie'?
Taehyungs live vocals quality makes all their performance more special!! It's just so amazing to hear whenever he sings.
Hobi on a stage is a whole mood, his character always shines

I've always loved the song, I knew there's something special about this and knowing recently that j-hope wrote this, it all makes sense
same..... when i listen to the song it feels nostalgic, and it really all makes sense now cause nostalgia is Hobi's specialty just like Blue Side. Hobi is a genius T_T
Yes, Run Bts ep 144, when our precious TaeTae gave the answer to Hobi because he wrote it, and he would remember best the lyrics. Great nostalgic episode, legendary song by our sunshine ☀️
Taehyung's voice is everything 💜✨
Love how you appreciate Taehyungs versatility. His range is amazing. He can go higher and lower both in the same song, literally in lines not even seconds away from each other. Others are tenors. They can do lower register but that's like once in a blue moon when they're made to do it for one specific song but Taehyung is literally up there when you talk about quality and versatility both at lower and higher registers.
BTS' lyrics are always so meaningful. This song in particular tell their story of how they were ignored at the beginning cuz they came from a small label. But ARMY could recognized that they were so talented and decided to help them to be heard. Even nowadays, they're so global but there's people on power (huge labels, radio owners, etc.) who don't like a foreign group can outsell others. I love how they used the life of this special whale to describe their own past concern, if there'll be someday, at least one person who wanna hear their songs. And here we're trying to explain people that if they open their minds, they'll find out how healing BTS' music is. 🙌🏼💜

RM agrees with you. He said once (when he was watching JHOPE during Hobi solo ) that Hobi is the master of stage presence. RM was just standing backstage in admiration.
Also it is so true that V voice is really awesome.. Is it not amazing that Jimin and V has the most unique and distinctive tone in the world (not only among KPOP artist) not even talking about their crazy range in the low and hight voice respectively . And yes BTS have so much personal colors and characters in their voices that it makes singing their songs difficult. Not in terms of range but in terms of giving their songs life if that make sense.
Hobi wrote this, i hope they can discuss more about this things cause armys always forget hobi when it comes to song writing, let's all not forget hobi's 112 komca song credits, he's been contributing a lot since their debut

I noticed that Taehyung's vocals almost always sounds better live than the recorded versions,,, more raw with more character... personally I think the tuning takes out of his voice more than adding to it

Yes! So much character in their individual voices. Don't get me wrong, I admire the entire rap line. I love all their styles and sounds. That being said, There's something about Hobi's style and vocal fluctuations get me so excited every time cause I never know what to expect from how he's going to express himself in his verse. There's so much praise to be said about each of them though and I feel like I do on a daily lol They're such a good group, damnit 😆
They are able to blend and match each other's voices together whenever they want, i think. All of their vocals have improved so much, but tae's have become like a fine wine lately.
And yes, jin for world wide pop star.
Apparently that high sound they use in the song is the actual register/hz of the Whale.

Knowing that j-hope wrote this song makes me so sad.. it reminds me of his song daydream they have a very deep meaning and gives us a look into how he feels.

You're so right about the hopefullness in bts songs it's my favourite thing about this song and its a theme in bts songs in general is just the level of comfort you get from them.
Theres a whale that can't communicate without anyone else and instead of saying they will change or learn or become able to communicate with others they're saying they will carry on singing their lonely song in the frequency only they can sing in and carry the hope that one day someone will recognise them for their unique frequency
I find beautiful that the maintain this idea of the whale. You can find it it the We are Bulletproof The Eternal, and late in Zero O’clock video. They even had a whale plushy that sold out like 10 times.
Basically army heard their cry and responded to it. So their tomorrow did arrive 🥺 he heard them. All of us lonely whales found each other 🥺

Wahhh whalien 52 is one of my favorites! Actually all the TMBML albums were my jam. I still listen to the albums from time to time. A lot of tracks are timeless pieces.. and that era had a huge impact in my life and brings back so many memories. Thanks for reacting to this side of BTS 💪

The wonder of BTS is they are giving you the journey of PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION/REALISATION and then COMFORT/CONSOLATION and Finally HOPE/RESOLUTION…. It is always present in every heart wrenching song they made.. That what makes each song a masterpiece.. a full course of emotional journey, unlike any other🥺🥺🥺☺️💜💜💜
This is 2015 so when they were doing all right but still trying to break through. Also this is just what Jimin used to sound like he has improved and grown his voice drastically in the two years right after this. He was always good but truly found his own character in his voice and once he found it, he continues to grow his strengths so now he’s one of the most unique and well loved voices in Kpop.
This song was writen even before their debut it has all the feelings and worries that came with uncertainty, all of those struggles they lived you can cleraly hear them in their voices as it was a time when no amount of hard work could garantee success, but they still managed to fight tbose shadows and keep going forward towards their dreams. Thats why we feel so nostalgic thinking about that time and only wanting for pple to know about BTS and their talent. Now we can proudly say their words reached Today and have been heard by millions around the world.
And thats why BTS keep referencing this whale a lot pretty much a simbol of their story.
Extra fact. Hobi could be talking not only about dance but about singing too, he was (still is) a vocalist first before bighit tured him into a rapper.
This song is about the voice which nobody heard. They were outsiders so lonely, but finally Armys heard them.

Exactly. When I heard this song and other songs that talked about heavy topics, the sound was not sad but hopeful and encouraging and that there we can move forward and don't have to be stuck in the negative space. Subscribed.
When jhope first joined bighit. They said he was so depressed & stressed. the members joked and said he was like jsad then. So he inspired him self to be better to feel better to become hopeful.

this song has a very special place in my heart. i fell in love with it when i listened to the whole album, and even more so when i read the lyrics. since then, i've associated whales (especially images of whales in the sky or in space) with comfort. easily my favorite bts song (which says a lot, as an army since 2014).

Jin definitely has what it takes to be a western pop star (really they all do) but I think JK has the most pop voice in the group. He is incredibly versatile and doesn't always sound poppy, but I think he's probably the more likely "western pop star". This is coming from a Jimin bias, so it's not about "preferring" one member over another. It's just a trained musician's opinion.
