  • As a geneticist, I've been dying to try these DNA ancestry tests for a while now and we finally took the 23andMe with my husband. The results were absolutely SHOCKING for me! We also did the DNA test for health while we were at it, which I find very useful. Let's see what you'll say to this husband & wife video and my reactions to the results :)

    Western Asian vs European categories got separated because by religion and language. But the reality is a lot more complex.
    Greek, anatolian and levantine genepools are very related, so the lines are blurred.

    What's called "French/German" basically means "Germanic". "France" once upon a time got infested by Germanic tribes called "Franks" and these called the country and its language after themselves.
    In a way this compares to Turkey where a foreign tribe (tribes) called Turks invaded and changed the social landscape as well as the landscape.

    What does it mean to have West Asian DNA?
    It means you have considerable Caucaso-Iranic ancestry, either from Caucasus Hunter-Gatherers , or Iranian Neolithic Farmers, or both.This means that your main gene is from two very old races of this region, i.e. Caucasian Iranians
    This gene is the highest among Iranian ethnic groups, including Kurds, Baluchis, Persians, Azeris, Lors, Pashtuns, Gilks, with an average frequency of 80%. Among Georgians, Armenians and people from Turkey are also found with a frequency of 80-70%.

    It's interesting that 23AndMe shows my DNA to be 99.7% European and I have 0.3% from Africa. The place changes every 3-6 months, like South Africa, Sudaneese, North, East, West..... At the same time, 2 of my kids have again 0.3% non-european component, but it doesn't match with mine or with each other. My wife DNA is 100% European and my 3rd kid is 100% European. All other DNA companies show us 100% European, except 23AndMe shows some of us with with a non-consistent 0.3% non-european. I guess needs time till it zeros down to 0.3%.

    Gamze, Turkishness is not limited to the Anatolian Peninsula. As you might remember from history, Turks did live in the Balkans and they still do in fact! Additionally, even if it shows 100% European or 100% Asian, It means nothing since being a Turk is more related to culture and language rather than ethnicity. So as long as you feel connected to the Türkiye and to the Turkish Language and Culture, you are still a Turk.

    • @azamat19
      @azamat19 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      well, turkic dna exists and its central asian to east asian. roots are in mongolia, kazakhstan, russia and china. gokturks who are considered to be the closest to prototurks do pretty much look like mongolians. turkishness as you say is something else. we all got turkized but mostly only via culture and language.

    First of all closeness of modern populations doesnt show who you are. It is better to look which late Bronze Age populations you are close with. Because modern day admixtures can give some fake ancestry results such as if a person has Moroccan on maternal side and German on paternal side it probably be close to modern day Spanishes which it has no cultural relation with. Look to Bronze Age ancestries...
