If I had the money to, I would take the government to court to have the wording of our human rights laws changed. Specifically Article 10. The wording is dishonest, a lie. Government mandated control of expression is not freedom of expression. It is state controlled expression/thought. This is not Starmlin ‘not reading the room’, it is deliberate to silence all criticism. The police appear to have been instructed to deliberately provoke a reaction at anti-immigration protests in the knowledge that as with all such crowds, there will be a criminal element that will react violently. I remember my son going through that stage and the way he was sometimes treated just for being out and about. I remember sticking up for another young man being wrongly accused of dodging train fares, when he was trying to buy a ticket! I hope the 17 year old you mention has a good family/network to support him through this difficult time. The wrong people are being targeted because they are easier to catch. It is completely normal (and healthy) for a 17 year old to want to understand what is going on by being a bystander. How else can he start to understand how to navigate the world and his place in it?
